When the brand Moschino is mentioned today most immediately envision the brands Junk Food Capsule Collection Quilted Leather Bag, a fusion of fast food chain McDonalds infamous logo and Chanel’s iconic flap bags - colorful, innovative and eccentric - all words used, since the very beginning, to describe the Moschino brand and its founder, the late Franco Moschino. Franco Moschino was born just outside of Milan, Italy in 1950. As a young man Moschino attended the Accademia delle Belle Arti in Milan where he studied fine art in the hopes of becoming a painter. To pay for his tuition, the artistic Moschino worked freelance as a fashion illustrator for various brands. Sooner then later his main interest shifted from one form of art to the other, naturally beginning his career in fashion in 1971, becoming an illustrator for Gianni Versace, with whom he would work for the next 16 years. Franco ventured from illustration to design in the late 1970’s, designing for Italian label, Cadette until 1982. Not long after his departure from Cadette, the ever-ambitious Moschino decided to produce his own brand and

founded Moschino Couture! as well as the now defunct, Moonshadows in 1983. Initially consisting solely of casual wear and jeans Moschino gradually expanded to menswear, perfume and accessories, all of which remained true the brands fashion industry satire, which made both founder and brand increasingly popular. Due to this unconventional approach to fashion the immense amount of attention Moschino gained made his designs a hot topic in the fashion world. Following the brands early-on popularity and success Moschino launched a “Cheap and Chic” line which was less expensive then the brands main line and expanded the brands name, market and revenue. On September 18, 1994 tragedy struck the thriving brand when founder Franco Moschino died due to complications from an abdominal tumor. The brands future was in jeopardy but only momentarily. Moschino’s long-time assistant Rossella Jardini swiftly took over as Creative Director, a role that she maintained until 2013. Jardini, who knew the in’s and out of the brand as well as Franco’s vision maintained not only the brands stylistic but its physiological approach to design.

Breakfast @ Moschino

Moschino thrived in the late 1990’s as well as early 2000’s, designing outfits for the 2006 Olympics Opening Ceremony as well as designing World Tour outfits for artists such as Madonna. Effortlessly maintaining its relevance in fashion the brand opened its very own concept hotel in Milan, Maison Moschino in 2009 the same year the boutique at Moschino.com opened is virtual doors. Sold in over 150 boutiques worldwide (including both mono and multi-label stores) Moschino’s history is no doubt bright but it’s future appears even brighter. Subsequent to Jardini stepping down as Creative Director after serving for almost 20 years quirky designer, Jeremy Scott took over as the driving creative force behind the brand, debuting his first collection during Fall ’14 to praise from the industry as well as consumers. This past Fall, to the fashion-lovers delight Scott debuted a Moschino Barbie themed Spring Collection, once again proving his vision to be cohesive with the brand as a whole: colorful, innovative and eccentric.

<THE SOURCE|

With this being the first issue of 2015 it seemed only fitting to start of with a fresh and rejuvenating viewpoint. Departing from the dreary dark winter and embarking on a new journey of revitalizing self-discovery. Every year we take on a new piece of ourselves as we move closer and closer to peace and wisdom and we leave the negative weights behind and feel the freedom to make new mistakes and overcome new obstacles. As we sprint to a spring filled with fresh movies, music, books and more may the eternal students never forget yesteryear and tackle the oncoming one.

Kode | So what would be the first thing you’d want someone to know about Eden XO the artist? Eden | That there are many layers to me and I’m finally comfortable with sharing more of them. I am cocky but I am also vulnerable, I can be the life of the party and I can also slip into episodes of depression and not want to go anywhere. Some people might be afraid to admit that about themselves, but not me. I’ve gone through so much and it’s only made me stronger. I’m excited to release more music so that my fans can tap into different layers of me. I know from reading fan mail that we all go through the same things and I want to help people whether that’s through escapism with a fun party

song or relatability with a more emotional ballad... At the end of the day I am always optimistic and my goal is to inspire people to dream big. I truly believe that anything is possible. Kode | You moved out to Hollywood at the young age of 16 after emancipating yourself from your parents, what was that like? Must have been a really hard decision, do you ever regret it?

out on typical high school stuff I gained so much more by becoming an active player in the songwriting community. I got to travel to Sweden, France and England to write songs while everyone else was at the prom. The trade off was okay by me. Kode | While you’re very young, Eden XO isn’t your first musical foray you were actually in 2 groups prior “”Shut Up Stella” as well as ”Jesse and the toy boys”. What was it like being in groups compared to your new solo status?

Eden | As an artist I am always evolving and SUS and J&TTB were very important creative phases for me to experience. The differEden | It was an easy decision actually. I ence I guess is that I’m just THAT much more self aware and sure of was dead set on making my dreams come myself as an artist and as a songwriter now than I was then. true and I didn’t want anything or anyone to try and stop me. My parents were not Kode | “The weekend” is one of the most infectious pop songs really supportive of me going into show we’ve heard in a while, How would you describe your overall business... I think in some ways they were sound? both afraid to go after their dreams and it scared them that I was chasing mine. I Eden | Thank you! My over-all sound has a lot of 80’s influence for have no regrets, and although I missed sure. I think it always has in some ways. I really feel like my voice and uniqueness shines the most on some of my mid-tempo tracks that aren’t out yet. I wrote this song with Jesse Shatkin and Mozella called “All Day Every Day” that is sort a mix of dreamy synths, trap snaps and big bass drums that sound like they’re echoing in the mountains with an almost reggae melody. Kode | What has the journey been like for you, and what do you feel like you’ve learned most over it? Eden | The journey has been a roller coaster, but it’s a ride that always inevitably ends on an up swing for me... I’m 100% positive that this is what I’m meant to do or there would be no reason for me to be on my 5th life in this business. I suppose I’m a kitty cat in a lot of ways, I get knocked down but I always land on my feet and I’ll never stop clawing my way to the top. What have I learned? To be grateful and humble through it all, and that I am nothing without my fans and the good people around me who support me. Kode | What impression do you want to leave upon people with your sound? Eden | I just want to make them feel something, it can be anything, joy, sadness, hatred even... I just don’t want to be a banana peel. I want to be a sour patch kid or a starburst. You feel me? Kode | Can we expect to hear any surprises on your upcoming EP, maybe a collaboration or two? Eden | Well the cats out of the bag that Lil Jon jumped on “The Weekend” with me! He killed it so hard. He has the best party voice ever, I mean, he made the word “Yeah” one of the most exciting words on a song ever! He’s an old friend and I’m happy to get to reunite with him. I also have a song called “Gold” that I wrote with Tony Kanal from No Doubt and my good friend Jimmy Harry. It features this dope Indian rapper named Raja Kumari. That track will be coming soon. It’s so hot.

The New Baddie

It is no coincidence that the world has fallen in love with actresses like Jennifer Lawrence and Mindy Kaling. They have brought a new spectrum to the modern woman’s social standard. No longer does a one have to aspire to be like Beyonce to be a bad ass. The quirky girl is in. The quirky girl is not bad ass because she is a perfect little diva; she’s a bad ass because she is real. Her imperfectness makes her perfect. Perfection is boring and the quirky girl has stepped in the building to spread the weird, the awkward and the fun. So take off that tight dress you hate and those pumps that give you blisters no matter how many times you wear them and slip into something a bit more comfortable and fun, like your personality! The quirky girl gives us the perfect dose of smarts, laughs and weirdness. She might bust her ass while trying to accept an Oscar or stuff multiple candy bars in her sleeves, but no matter what kind of awkward situation she gets herself into she always finds a way to laugh at herself and keep it moving. She is truly accepting of herself and it makes her sexy. From Taylor Swift in her “Shake it Off” video to Zooey Deschanel in “New Girl”, its clear that a movement of acceptance to ones less then normal side has taken over. So embrace the weird and love yourself for every imperfection you possess. Your weirdness is a lot sexier and cooler than you know.

A Tinder love story > Ever hear the saying, don’t hate the player, hate the game? Well, when it comes to, Tinder it’s very easy to hate both. Having around 50 million of active users around the world, who check the app multiple times a day, one would think that Tinder is the ultimate place to find your soulmate by putting potential dates at your finger tips. Instead, it has been deemed the “Hook Up” app. By swiping through countless possible matches in seconds, Tinder has made it easy to meet someone who is interested in you and they may just have one thing on their mind. The app is quite discrete. Since you don’t have to reveal very much about yourself, it is easy to remain casual with the people you encounter. Tinder doesn’t give you the the elements to possible long term love by featuring images and requiring little to no actual profile. Matches are usually based on physical attraction and social cues displayed in the photos. It allows you to stay almost anonymous since you only have to reveal your physicality on your profile; some people even find their way around this, showing random pictures, hoping they get a right swipe. Unlike most fairytales, looks aren’t the determining factor to make that Happily Ever After. The game like aspect of the app makes it so you can keep playing until you find what you’re looking for. It takes the pain out of introducing yourself to a stranger at a bar that may not be interested in you. If don’t match, you move on, but if you do, there’s more than likely a physical connection and they are most likely in your area. Tinder removes social complications but instead contributes to a hook up culture of anonymity and sexual satisfaction as well as proximity.

Because it’s so fast and simple, it’s easy to engage in casual sex, in fact it practically puts in on the table. Tinder is as essentially different from all the other dating apps as men are from women. Just like in real life, it is very easy for men only to be looking for sex rather than romantic involvement. Sadly, this proves true with the Tinder app, giving men basically a rolodex of women seeking some form of relationship or companionship. They also outnumber women two-to-one on the app, which allows them to use the app to stalk women like prey. This also gives women who are also looking for casual encounters better likelihood of finding such. It just proves that Tinder is indicative of our hook up culture, as it is just as nonchalant as a hook up and it remains low risk, ensuring less rejection. Like internet itself, Tinder is fast moving machine that is all about the here and now. There’s an endless smorgasbord of people to connect to and the one thing you most likely have in common is that you are single, and as they say, DTF. It’s definitely possible that you could fall into a love story and be telling your grandkids about how you met on Tinder, but it’s more likely that your love story will be a short one, and possibly only a one night stand

Ryn Weaver

Charles Bradley

Hailing from San Diego, CA self-proclaimed “fairy pop” singer Ryn Weaver is anything but ordinary. Influenced by artists such as Carol King and Led Zeppelin, Weaver has been praised for her soulful voice as well as stage presence. Weaver gained attention in late 2014 with the release of her debut EP, Promises produced by Benny Blanco and Passion Pit frontman Michael Angelakos. Weaver’s voice paired with electronic synth leave most dubbing her sound “electropop” and establishes her as a rising star and a Coachella must see.s

Brooklyn’s Daptone Records (Durham Records) has been at the forefront of the current soul music revival and naturally Soul, Funk, R&B singer Charles Bradley is right there leading the way with his powerful voice and nostalgic sound. Now in his late 60’s, Bradley infamously struggled in the music industry for decades until releasing his debut album, No Time for Dreaming in 2011 to critical acclaim. Since, Bradley has released a second studio album, Victim of Love, and toured the world, gaining new fans one show at a time. Make sure Charles Bradley goes on the top of your “Acts to See” list this year.

Lil B

Also known as TheBasedGod, rapper, author and motivational speaker Lil B rose to fame as a part of hyphy, Bay Area based rap group, The Pack. In the wake of The Packs overnight success due to the hit single, “Vans,” Lil B focused on a solo rap career, releasing seven albums, including the controversial, I’m Gay (I’m Happy). At just 25 years old the Oakland rapper has also published a book and works as a motivational speaker, promoting what he calls a “Based” lifestyle, which refers to “positivity and tolerance.” Since his days with The Pack, Lil B has gained a large cult following that will no doubt be front row center at his Coachella stage this year, why not join the party?

Cashmere Cat

Norwegian electronic DJ and Producer Cashmere Cat is arguably one of the most successful underdogs in his genre. Subtly stepping onto the music scene in 2012 with his own remixes of chart topping artists such as 2 Chainz and Lana Del Rey, Cashmere Cat’s electronic star has greatly risen ever since. He was not only a featured artist but was recognized as a producer on pop star Ariana Grande’s album, My Everything, just last year as well as co-produced the Kanye West track, “Wolves” with Sinjin Hawke on his highly anticipated new album. With cosigns from prominent artist such as Miguel, Jeremih and Wiz Khalifa we’re sure you wont regret making a stop by his set on the polo fields this year.

Even if you don’t know how to speak French electropop duo Yelle will no doubt make you a fan after your first listen. Members Yelle and GrandMariner (Julie Budet and Jean-François Perrier) were discovered via their Myspace and went on to release their first album, Pop Up in 2007. Filled with influences from the 1980’s the up-beat album along with their follow ups, Safari Disco, released in 2011 and Completement Fou, released in the Fall of last year and produced by Dr. Luke, have lead to a large following for the duo not only in France but worldwide. If you want to dance Yelle’s show will be the place to be.

San Diego-bred, Los Angeles based Gaslamp Killer got his start (and name) as a DJ in the Gaslamp district of San Diego, CA. Since his small beginnings the underground hip hop/electronic DJ and Producer signed with producer and rapper, Flying Lotus’ label, Brainfeeder, released a successful album, Breakthrough (in 2012) and tours the world, playing at festivals such as Voodoo in New Orleans and Austin Psych in Texas. A high-energy show The Gaslamp Killer Experience is not to be missed. Have fun and stay hydrated during this wild ride.

Journalism student turned DJ/Producer; Ryan Hemsworth is among the young wave of electronic/hip hop producers who are currently revolutionizing the sound of music. The Canadian-born Hemsworth has in the past two years made a name for himself, releasing two acclaimed LP’s, Guilt Trip (2013) and Alone For the First Time (2014) and producing for artists such as Shady Blaze and Deniro Farrar. Hemsworth has worked with fellow talented underdogs, RL Grime and Sholomo and has released countless successful remixes of top hits from artist such as Beyonce, Kanye West and Disclosure. If you like a fusion of electronic and hip hop Ryan’s show is sure to make you an instant fan. Top Dawg Entertainment underdog and Black Hippy member, Ab-Soul is what some describe as “the truth.” Applauded for his introspective and insightful lyrics, Soul – born Herbert Stevens in Los Angeles, CA – is no doubt TDE’s subtle star. Soul started off in rap group, Area 51 and later signed to TDE in 2007, releasing three independent albums: Longterm Mentality (2011), Control System (2012) and These Days (2014). While Ab-Soul hasn’t gained the amount of widespread fame as his label mate Kendrick Lamar there is no doubt it is attainable. Be sure to check him out, we’re sure he’ll have at least one awesome TDE special guest.

Mi’chele On S#!T

<me d i t a t i on > What is Meditation? Practiced for centuries, meditation is the act and art of training and transforming the mind to focus all consciousness on one specific area; aiding in deep concentration and an eventual halt of incessant activity leading to increased awareness and a peaceful state of mind. Why Meditate? The effects of meditation are profound and anyone can benefit from the practice if done on a consistent basis. While meditating, whether we realize it or not, we are engaging our minds on a deep level of consciousness which enables us to come face to face with raw emotion, feeling and thought, leading us to an extensive level of understanding, not only about ourselves but the world around us. Constantly cultivating this focused and mindful state of mind can be truly transformative to the individual practicing, not only increasing their overall concentration but leading them to inner peace, happiness and a feeling of balance.

About Mi’Chele Mi’Chele Daniels was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. She is an RYT Vinyasa | Hatha Yoga Instructor with a background in Ashtanga Yoga, receiving her certification from Caroline Klebel’s Source of Yoga Teacher Training. She is the lead instructor at Harakati Studio in Mid City, Los Angeles, CA and holds indoor as well as outdoor private and semi-private lessons to beginner, intermediate and advanced students. Namaste. Shanti.

Additional Benefits of Meditation: Lower blood pressure Improved Circulation Lower heart rate Less perspiration Slower respiratory rat Lower blood cortisol level Less anxiety Increased feelings of well-being Decreased stress Deep level of relaxation

Is Meditation for you? As you’ve just learned everyone can benefit from the immense physical and psychological benefits meditation has to offer, therefore meditation is without a doubt for you, especially if you suffer from or experience any of the following: Exhaustion Stress Difficulty focusing/Being present Depression Anxiety Crave a change Aches and pains High blood pressure Bad temper/Mood swings How to Meditate *Choose a quiet, private place where you will not be interrupted *Sit or lie comfortably *Gently close your eyes *Begin to focus on the slow natural flow of your breathe – the air entering your body, your belly slowly expanding on that inhale and compressing as you part your lips and release each exhale - focus on this fluid, controlled movement, release all thought, immersing yourself only in feeling *If your mind begins to wander simply return your focus back to your breath, back to the rising and falling of the belly. (TIP: Begin your meditation practice for 5 minutes, overtime increasing to longer periods based on your discretion)

Kode | When did you first decide acting was a passion of yours? Brent | I’d be lying if I said I always wanted to be an actor. Growing up, I really think all of my family and friends thought I’d end up playing baseball. Baseball was my thing - I was a left handed pitcher and played first base. I hit the field playing t-ball at age 5 and then played in every little league, travel league, and school league all through middle and high school. Then, I injured my arm pitching, had surgery, went through physical therapy, but it just never healed properly and well, that “dream” died. I was also super quiet. It could’ve been because my Italian family was so damn loud so I could never get a word in, but yeah, I was pretty shy. But I loved to impersonate people - my family has a library of home videos showcasing me doing impressions of John Lennon - toe tap and all, the Scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz (complete with floppy hat, click of the heels dance), Indiana Jones, the Rocketeer (with a homemade jet pack), and Batman (I mean you have to love the capes). All of these were done in my tighty whities - no impression of mine was done clothed. So, I guess you’d say, I had a passion for acting, but just didn’t know it. I think growing up, people would think I was nuts if I told them I wanted to be an actor. I was the shy jock. Kode | Congrats on all the success with Hit The Floor! How does this character differ from any other character you’ve portrayed in your acting career? Brent | Well, first off he’s gay, and with that comes a responsibility to the gay community to play the role as authentic as possible. I’m not gay, but I have plenty of good friends who are and I wanted to make them proud - to portray this complex character as truthful as possible. That’s what’s different about this particular role. I’m going to be asked to portray characters that have gone through life events, obstacles, and victories that I have not experienced yet in my own life and maybe never will. But my accurate portrayal of Jude, a modern day gay man, I see as playing an important part in supporting this cultural shift. Kode | How has the response been for playing one of the most shocking roles on television this year? Brent | Initial feedback to Season 2 when Jude was introduced to the series has been incredibly positive. And I think that has to do with the cultural change. Two guys kissing on TV is not a shocker anymore, whereas 5-8 years ago it would probably make headlines on Entertainment Tonight and Access Hollywood for weeks. 80 | Kode5

^

“All of these were done in my tighty whities”
I mean it’s crazy to think that in 1998 the Ellen show was canceled a short year after the show’s main character, Ellen DeGeneres, declared she was a lesbian. That was less than 20 years ago... It’s incredibly encouraging to see how society has evolved. Kode | What’s next for Season 3? Brent | Oh man! What can I say?! I can’t say too much but I will say the writers have out done themselves again. I want to tell you EVERYTHING but James LaRosa (the creator) will hunt me down and kill me! haha. I think the viewers will be very satisfied… I’ll leave you with that! Kode | Are their any hidden talents that you could let our readers in on besides being insanely handsome? Brent | Well, besides my celebrity impersonations (which I now do clothed), get a few drinks in me, and I’ll break out my groove thing (Or...my secret dance moves...)! Kode | Is there anything you want people to know about Brent Antonello? What can we look forward to seeing in the future? Brent | I want people to know how incredibly grateful I am for this opportunity and for the support of everyone watching the series. I’m looking forward to playing different roles, diving into different characters, and learning from the many talents that surround me while on this adventure. Basically, I just want to work. I want to be able to pay my rent, eat a good meal every now and then, and fill my tank, so I can enjoy life in Southern California. I’m excited for what the future holds. By| Ryan Mitchell

I love all aspects of fashion, from being super girly, to throwing on a pair of sneakers and calling it a day. Being in the fashion business it’s easy to be open with style and have fun with it. That being said, it keeps you on your feet, and once in a blue moon you need time to take for yourself and just relax.

1]

I am a total sneaker girl, amid all the fashion and glamour, give me a pair of sneakers and I’m happy. Air Jordan does special releases of all of their shoes; now I’m not one to stand in line for them, but if I can find a pair in my size, I’ll snatch them up.

Once winter rolls around, all that means to me is that it is finally the holiday season! The city surrounds you with bright lights, festive music and even more reasons to go out and have fun. Take advantage of this time and use it as an excuse to light up a room. Go for one outrageous statement piece and downplay it with the staples that are already in your closet. I personally try to get away with sequins whenever given the chance. One sequin bottom with a streamlined coat and elegant top will balance the look off.

[the_ birkenstock] No relation to the the Hermes Birken, this is a trend I’m sure no fashionista on the planet could have seen coming but with the rising of normcore culture and the support from brands like Phoebe Philo’s Céline and Riccardo Tisci’s Givenchy the once completely disregarded footwear is kicking ass and taking names.

Listen, watch and Sophie > <Raury A master of mystery artist Sophie, whose identity is unclear, is an electronic producer and one of the biggest names in the up and coming bubblegum bass genre. Although masking his/her identity, Sophie’s hits like “Bipp” and most recently “Lemonade”, are hitting the club scene with their new sound mixture of high pitched vocals and instrumental wave forms.

At only 18 years of age, this rising star hailing from Atlanta is still in the process of getting to know himself and his sound. Luckily for us we can enjoy the sound and appreciate the adolescent musical experimentation that is Raury. With amazing songs like “PSA (Seven Suns)”, we can already hear the mixture of musical genres including funk, rock, soul and hip hop.

< Ibeyi A dynamic duo is an understatement to say the least about this up and coming group Ibeyi, consisting of French Cuban twin sisters Naomi and Lisa-Kiande Diaz. The two combine their Cuban heritage and their Parisian upbringing to give listeners a minimalist sound in English and Yoruba-a Nigerian dialect spoken by their Cuban ancestors. Check out their self titled album recently released in February of 2015.

<Elliphant From Dancehall to Alternative R&B this badass Swedish native artist is defining the music scene with her free sprit and new sound. Although her album A Good Idea hit the European music scene almost two years ago Elliphant is finally getting the recognition she deserves stateside. Want more proof of just how cool she is? Check out the video “One More” and find out for yourself.

MLKMN > Mexican/American rapper MLKMN has combined the sound of his tejano roots with hip hop and cumbia to create a new wave latin sound. With a successful career in making beats for big time latin names, MLKMN decided to invest his talents into his own artistry. His most recent hit “Bounce” showcases his musical talent and fusion of both English and Spanish.

learn: A New Wave Jidenna >

<SZA

A member of Janelle Monaes Wondaland label and a leader of a true gentleman’s style and grace; singer/ songwriter Jidenna’s dynamic sound is a mix of R&B and hip hop. Although his ultra cool sound can be heard in single “Classic Man”, Jidenna will be releasing a new single in April titled “Yoga” featuring Janelle Monae.

A member of Top Dawgs Entertainment alongside big name Kendrick Lamar, SZA’s sound can be defined as a clash of genres from chillwave to neosoul. This comes as no surprise as SZA lists her biggest musical influences with genre hopping names like Billie Holiday and Bjork. Her debut album Z has created a buzz with hits like “Babylon”.

<Saun & Star Brooklyn based duo Saun & Star are brining back the powerful sound of soul with their debut album being released May 19. With singles like “Hot Shot”, you are bound to fall in love with the voices and sound of these powerful women.

<Dej Loaf Theesatisfaction > With her recognizable song “Try Me”, Dej Loaf, a Detroit native, rose to fame with her own unique Cinderella story. Working as a janitor while staying true to her true passion for music, Dej Loaf gained attention from musical likes such as Drake when her single “Try Me” was released in July of 2014. With her unique rap and fashion style we are bound to hear great things as her debut album with Columbia Records drops this year.

With a recently released second debut album titled Earth EE, Seattle based rapper and singer collaboration, Theesatisfaction, will undoubtedly capture your attention. Clashing the sounds of hip hop, jazz and R&B, this female duo embraces the black weirdo movement to bring listeners a unique experience of funk, feminism and fun.

10 ways to freshen up your morning routine

< 1. Stop hitting the snooze button! This could be the difference between being early andrunning late. 2. If you have trouble getting out of bed, use the opportunity to stretch. Sit up, hang out, then upward stretch, spinal twist and rotate your neck and shoulders. This will help you invigorate your morning and get you moving. 3. Mediate; go over what your day in your head and do not look at your phone. It will mentally prepare you for any stress the day might bring and center you so you can function at your best! 4. Splash your face cold water once you get up, this will help you feel refreshed and also improve your circulation, giving you that perfect beauty rest glow. 5. While you’re getting ready, instead of watching TV, put on music or a podcast. It will assist in turning on your brain and aid your focus.

> 6. Take a walk: the fresh air energize you and vitalize your morning! 7. Put your eye cream in the fridge so it’s extra invigorating and refresing. Massage your under eyes for increased circulation. 8. Line your inner lashes with a white pencil which will open your eyes and make you lookwell rested. 9. Start your breakfast with a room temperature glass of water with a squeeze of lemon. It will boost your metabolism and immunity, assist your digestion, help with skin and PH, and even energize you and help with weight loss! 10. Chia seeds are another great way to heighten energy levels. Add some to your water, smoothie, oatmeal or make your very own chia pudding. This will give you a boost of calcium and antioxidants.

Albania>

Croatia and Greece’s Younger Sister Finally Comes of Age Remember how awesome, and cheap, Croatia was just before the yacht week arrived and every other person on Instagram started posting photos of their summers in Split? For those looking for the very few “undiscovered seaside retreats in Europe, Albania is one of the few left. Nestled along both the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, Albania lies just North of Greece and South of Montenegro. While the last century proved to be rather rocky for the small country, things in the millennium have been looking rather promising for the future. It was admitted to NATO in 2009, and became a official candidate for the European Union in 2014. This political progress has led to an increase in tourism over the last few years. Albania has a typical Mediterranean climate and beautiful beaches. With over 450km of coastal lands, the southern beaches located on the Ionian Sea coast are known to be the most impressive. Towns like Saranda, only a short distance from Greece, welcome jet setters each summer looking for a less crowded alternative to Greece and Croatia. For those looking for culture when taking a break from tanning, the Ancient Theatre of Butrint is only a short drive south from Saranda along the Greek border. In the North there are also beach towns and popular cities like Tirana, which showcase a wonderful architecture, museums, and is rich with Albanian historical sights and monuments. Albania is fast on its way to becoming another European hotspot, better book your flights before the Euro takes over and the great exchange rates are a thing of the past.

Cuba> The New Caribbean Hotspot Cuba lies just 93 miles south of Florida in the Caribbean Sea. Like many of the Caribbean islands indigenous people inhabited Cuba until the “discovery of the islands by Christopher Colombus in 1492. For over 400 years Cuba was a colony of the Kingdom of Spain, a period which left a mark that is still evident in the architecture and culture. For the last several decades Cuba has been relatively cut off from the United States, the result of an embargo. However, most likely with in the next year Americans will soon be able to hop on a short flight from Miami to Havana. Havana is the capital and largest city in Cuba, It is home to some of the greatest examples of Spanish Colonial architecture, where you can walk endlessly through cobblestone streets admiring great palaces, churches and museums. Havana also has a modern Afro-Cuban feel and is home to a burgeoning contemporary art and dance scene. Outside of the capital there are many enchanting towns such as Trinidad, which is an open museum of Spanish Colonial architecture. There is also a blending of old and new here, as seen by the presence of a nightclub in the ruins of a Church. Like the other islands in the Caribbean, Cuba has miles of pristine coastline and breathtaking beaches. Make it a point to see this newly reopened destination while its charms are still unspoiled.

Bolivia > The Next Adventure Capital of South America Bolivia has traditionally lagged behind its South American counterparts in tourism, but is making strides to gain a foothold in the market. While the land locked country does not have endless miles of beaches, there are still several activities and sites to pique the interests of many tourists. Bolivia, along with Peru, controls Lake Titicaca, the world’s highest navigable lake. The capital, La Paz is in the midst of a culinary renaissance and to wash down all the alpaca meat, there are several wineries to tour in the Tarija region. After having your fill of food and wine, make sure to get out of La Paz and explore the myriad of natural wonders that Bolivia has to offer such as the salt flats that have long enchanted travelers. With a landscape that reaches from the Andes to the edge of the Amazon there is no shortage of adventure tours, the hardest problem will be choosing. One daunting tour is The Death Road, which is a 64km mountain bike tour that takes you from the cold and harsh climate of La Cumbre down to the humid and tropical Coroico. With infrastructure consistently improving and the travel industry’s continued expansion in the county, Bolivia won’t long remain a hidden gem of South America.

#Roadt

Spr ing Break and road tr ips are two timeless vacations that all travellers from student back packers to sen ior citizens en joy. Why not combine the two and take it up another level this year with a French road tr ip from Par is to the French Riviera. By | Anrew Boston Speeding along the Mediterranean in the Cote d’Azure on a beautiful summer day, with the top down and wind blowing in your hair, and not a care in the world. Sounds like the perfect French getaway, but when traveling to the South of France there are several roadblocks to watch out for that could send your dream road trip on a detour. First thing to know is how to rent a car in France. It is basically the same procedure as in the US, however those under 25 should know how to drive a manual car, as most rental agencies only carry luxury brand automatics, which by policy are not rented out to young travelers. When going over your agreement at the counter, be sure to check how many miles you are allotted before incurring excess charges and do a thorough check for damages before leaving the lot. And while some might consider it a luxury, paying extra for the navigation system is a necessity, especially if you’re planning any spontaneous adventures along the way. While it may only be a 7-hour drive from Paris down to the Cote Azure, the tolls add up quickly, so be sure to budget for these unavoidable charges. Also, make every possible effort to avoid traveling during Bastille Day weekend, the unofficial beginning to summer. Speaking from experience, leaving on the Friday of this weekend can take your road trip from Crossroads to American Horror Story.

r i pp i n There are several places to stop as you drive through the almost the entire length of France on your road trip. One of the first major stops outside of Paris along the A6 is the Chateau de Fontainebleau, one of the most well known Chateau’s in France. This is a great spot to have a café walk along the gardens and tour the chateau, but don’t dally too long as you still have a long way to go and you’ll want to save as much time as possible for the next stop. Head further south into Burgundy along the wine road for a day or two of wine tasting. While in the area, the Abbaye de la Bussiere near the large town of Dijon and only 25 km off the wine road and gives you the opportunity to stay in an abbey that dates back to 1131. After recovering from your wine induced hangover, continue south to Lyon. The third largest city in France, Lyon like Paris is divided into different arrondissements. There are two rives running through Lyon, the Rhone in the East and the Saone in the West. Old Lyon is one of the largest Renaissance areas in Europe, second only to Venice. Like Paris there is countless bridges and streets filled with romantic architecture that could easily steal your short time in this town. After a few days in Lyon, pack a few sandwiches and cram back in the car to head towards Avignon. Also along the Rhone River, Avignon is home to the Palace of the Popes a UNESCO world heritage site and definitely not worth skipping. Seven consecutive popes resided here during the 14th century and is also home to a popular annual arts festival, the Festival d’Avignon. Also in Avignon is the Pont du Avignon dating back to the 15th century and made famous by the song “Sur le Pont d’Avignon.” A little further south Aix en Provence awaits your exploration. Explore the many of the French and Roman sites while lit dramatically under the moonlight. The Cathedral Cloisters, the famous café Les Deux Garcons, and the thermal springs are among the many things to see and do in this last stop before reaching the Mediterranean coast. The only thing between you and a sunset cocktail at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes is one of the most scenic drives in France if not the world.

Bob Hope took modern to a new level in his massive 22,000 square foot mansion. Looking like something that could easily blend in at Tomorrowland in Disneyland, this home was built in 1980 by John Lautner. Boasting an indoor and outdoor swimming pool as well as two tennis courts, this home would be a great year-round retreat as well a perfect location for your next family reunion, and with 6 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms there is more than enough room to house weekend guests. The open-air design is great for indoor-outdoor living and brings the stunning natural landscape right inside the home. Bob Hopes former home is currently on the market for $25 million, a steal considering the price has dropped 50% since last year.

The Kaufmann House is an architectural landmark and one of the most important examples of International Style architecture; like the style might lead one to assume, the architect was from Vienna, Austria. Richard Neutra first worked with Frank Lloyd Wright when he came to the United States. The estate was built for department store tycoon Edgar Kaufmann Sr., who had previously commissioned Fallingwater in Pennsylvania, and needed a home to escape the east coast winters. Neutra designed the estate like a pinwheel with the living and dinning rooms at the center. At the end of each wing are large rooms that help to define outdoor space. In addition to the interior, the estate is well known for its large and beautiful pool that also helps bring balance to overall design of the home. After Kaufmann’s death the home sat vacant and suffered from many ill-conceived renovations, however the estate was restored by Marmol Radzinor + Associates and once again stands among the greatest residential architectural achievements.

When people think of Palm Springs they think of the desert, Coachella and the Desert Hills Premium Outlets. When people think of Palm Springs and Architecture they think of Bob Hope, The Rat Pack and Mid Century Modernism. For years Frank Sinatra escaped to the desert to get away from the Hollywood scene, however it seemed to follow him everywhere he went. Frank Sinatra’s Twin Palm Estate was built by E. Stewart Williams in the Movie Colony area of Palm Springs. Although Sinatra originally wanted a Georgian estate, Williams was able to persuade him to go with a modern design. The estate sits at 4,500 square feet with four bedrooms, seven baths and pool house next to the piano shaped pool, a covered walkway leads guests past the pool to enter the home. The two poolside palm trees for which the estate was named were used to hoist Sinatra’s Jack Daniels flag to signal his famous friends happy hour was starting.

Kode | I think first things first. Who is Shamari Maurice? Sham | Shamari Maurice is an 18 year old “socialite” I guess one would say who is based out of Los Angeles. With interest in fashion and savvy use of social media it all just began to grow and grow as I posted pics of everyday life and kind of showed my careless attitude. Kode | What would you like people to know about you? Sham | I would personally like people to know that I am not naive and I do have goals and ambitions, I know I will accomplish. I understand that there is more to life so for those who think I just sit around wear expensive clothes and eat at nice restaurants that is not the case because I am still struggling to reach my goal although I know I will, everyday as of now is my struggle to become “someone.” Kode | You’ve curated a rather large following on social media, what do you think it is that draws people to you and your life? Sham | To be honest I think what draws people to me and my life is the fact that I guess it shows I don’t really care but that’s also a misconception I care to a certain extent just not about what people think of me with my smaller scale of “Instagram” fame I care to be a role model to the few that look up to me but if you have something negative to tell me I’ll brush that off and I think that’s what attracts people confidence. Kode | You have quite a few famous friends and family members what’s it like to be consistently surrounded by people of such notoriety and constantly in the public eye while not being famous yourself? Sham | Being surrounded by successful public figures only inspires me and drives me. I truly believe you are who you surround yourself with, also what you eat lol. But it only inspires me other than that they’re just people. Kode | What can you tell us about your upbringing and what it is your parents do? Sham | I was raised by my single mother, my father was in and out of my life but my family used to own a bunch of small businesses like restaurants, group homes etc. so I was always taught the business side of things. Kode | Do you sometimes feel overly and unfairly judged by those who don’t know you?

“ ...it only inspires me other than that they’re just people ”

Sham | Yes, people who don’t know me think I come off cocky, cold, and like I said before naive but that’s exactly it, they don’t know me and don’t take the time to get to know me. Anyone can portray themselves a certain way behind a phone and a couple filters remember that. Kode | You are pretty fashionable, have you always had a flare for fashion and do you plan on segwaying that into working somewhere within in the fashion industry? Sham | I used to dress terribly and was not fashionable whatsoever and I just kind of found myself and picked it up. My ultimate dream job is to be the buying director for a large scale high end department store as well as the head fashion editor of a fashion magazine. Although those are two things I’d love to do I also want to collaborate with other brands and eventually maybe have my own line. Basically I want to make Shamari Maurice an empire with fashion being the foundation of it all. Kode | What’s it like to be Shamari Maurice for a day? Sham | Being Shamari Maurice for a day can vary oh god. Sometimes it’s amazing to be me and sometimes it just goes to shit but that’s just life and pretty sure it’s like that for everyone. I’m super spontaneous and never know what I’m doing one minute I’ll be sitting at home the next going to New York for a day and then staying for nearly a month! Other than that I’m extremely blessed and am really growing to love being Shamari Maurice. Kode | What are your career aspirations? Sham | Like I said before my career aspirations is to grow and be respected in the fashion industry as a creative but I also want to branch out and continue acting again, as well as hosting and to be honest anything in the entertainment industry I just love to entertain people !

Victoria | I wouldn’t say it’s squeaky clean, but I don’t portray myself as one way for the media or the public and then I’m totally different in real life. I do try to keep my personal life private for the most part and I’m not the girl who’s always out and about on the club circuit, drinking and doing drugs. The way I represent myself through my interviews and on my social media accounts, is pretty much who I am. I think if you were going to try and sell people a certain image that wasn’t true to yourself, you could only fool them for so long, things would eventually come out, about who you really are. In today’s world with the internet, cell phone cameras and videos, you can’t get away with a fake persona for long. Kode | Help us get to know the 22 year old Victoria Justice, what would you like people to know about you as a person, as a young woman forging her way through a tough industry? Victoria | I’ve been in the industry since I was eight years old. I started doing commercials and child modeling back in South Beach in Miami, Florida. I’ve always worked hard since I was little and I’ve always loved it. My parents were always very supportive, but never pushed me into it. It was always me pushing them. My parents weren’t wealthy people, we were just normal middle class. I’m extremely lucky that when I asked to go to LA when I was ten, my Mom took me out here for an extended visit. I was lucky enough to get a good agent right away and within a year, they made the move out here for me. I appreciate everything they’ve done for me, and if it weren’t for their support and belief in me, I wouldn’t be where I am today. My parents are very unaffected by the industry and that’s always kept me grounded. It is a tough industry, but if you keep things in the proper perspective and work hard, I think it will work out ok. You don’t have to be at the top, to be successful. I think the secret is to not get caught up in the fame game, because if you do, you will constantly be looking around to see who might one up you, and that’s such an unhealthy way to exist in any industry.

Kode | The world for some reason naturally pits most women against each other, especially within the same industry. Do you consider yourself to be competitive, and what are your thoughts on young female contemporaries? Victoria | I consider myself to be healthily competitive. I would never do anything unethical or use people to help myself up. I just try to prepare as best as I can for an audition and give it my best shot. As for my female friends in the business, I’m rooting for them. I’m sincerely happy for them, when they book something they really wanted. There is a lot of rejection and we all need support and friendships. If I thought someone had an unhealthy obsession with the business, they wouldn’t be in my friend circle. I try to surround myself with really good people who are balanced and don’t take themselves seriously. Kode | How do you feel you express yourself through your fashion and the things you wear? Do you feel like the depth of your personality is captured with your current style? Victoria | My personal style is very relaxed and sometimes funky and fun. I love color, patterns and things that are unexpected. I love jeans and a comfortable bootie, it’s probably my favorite casual look. I love trying new things, not only with clothes, but with hair and makeup too. When I do a red carpet event, I love looking for something different. It’s definitely a time to play with something unexpected, because how many opportunities are you given, where you can wear those kind of clothes. What I don’t want to do, is play it safe, safe to me is boring. Fashion is so much fun and I love to experiment. Kode | As you mature how do you see your style evolving as are surrounded by more aspects and aesthetics within the fashion industry? Do you want to be a cooler edgier girl or the chic elegant girl, give us a peak into where you truly see yourself going. Victoria | There’s a time and place to wear both, but I think edgier is so much more fun!

Kode | What do you think is the next evolution of Victoria Justice, do you think you’ll ever shock the world and do something completely unexpected? Victoria | I don’t know what’s next and that’s what I’ve always loved about this business, you never know what’s around the corner. I will continue to look for projects that interest me and do things that I find challenging. I don’t know where the road will lead me. As for shocking the world, that’s never the plan, but who knows what will come up and what I’ll say yes to. Some people might find this photo shoot I did for your magazine a little shocking and unexpected, but it’s something I thought was interesting and different than any photo shoot I’ve ever done. I don’t want to keep doing the same things over and over, I’m looking for different and it’s fun to try on new looks.
