Across the pond the phrase ‘Rag and Bone’ refers to a man who collects unwanted items. When developing their clothing brand in the early 2000’s founders Nathan Bogle and Marcus Wainwright decided on the name of the distastefully descript English man. Ironically, what that brand has become is far from unwanted and since it’s launch in 2004 Rag & Bone has become everything but. Presently, the brands prominence has elevated drastically in the fashion world and consists of men’s and women’s ready-to-wear, a line of jeans, footwear as well as an accessories line. This notable advancement to success did not happen in the thread of a needle, so to speak. Creativity, hard work and in some measure, fate played roles in the evolution of the Rag & Bone we know, wear and love today. Becoming instant friends following crossing paths at a boarding school in their native United Kingdom both Bogle and Wainwright not long after sought out the American dream, moving together to none other then New York City. Having no design or fashion experience under their belts was far from a factor when in 2001 Wainwright concluded that it was virtually impossible, “to find a decent pair of jeans” in the metropolitan melting-pot and set out to create his own, an experience which is attested to as forming Rag & Bone’s In addition to paying homage to the home of their youth in their designs Rag & philosophy today. Kode| What’s the first thing you’d like people to know about Jasmine V? Jasmine| I just want them to know that I’m no different than anybody, that I’m a regular girl and regardless of how successful I become, I will always be the same. Kode| You’ve been a little go getter since as young as 9, what made you want this so fiercely at such a young age and how did you know music and acting was really what you wanted? Jasmine| I just love it. I think when you’re able to choose a career that you love, that fire continues to burn. Especially being so little, I just cared about being on stage or in front of a camera.. lol. Then being able to inspire others through something I loved, I mean, who wouldn’t want that? Kode| You are truly a young dynamo with acting, dancing, and singing ability which do you cling too most as your biggest solace?

Jasmine| It would definitely be singing. I love acting, and plan on doing more of it if I’m able to. Dancing also, I’m still trying to get better, but singing is what really sets me free.

Jasmine| I’d like to think maybe one day, I can be up there as well. It’s going to take a lot of time and nothing is promised, but best believe I’m going to give it my all. Jasmine| It feels amazing.. After being dropped prior to that, I didn’t know what I was going to do, but I kept working and then I ended up with Interscope. Everyone there has made me feel at home, they definitely support me as a young creative, I think that’s why it works so well. Kode| There’s a great crop of young ladies hitting the music scene lately from Tinashe, Becky G, Tori Kelly, Justine Skye, Vashtie, etc., what do you think sets you apart from them?

Jasmine| Well, everyone is different. We all have a story, a sound, and personality. It’s great seeing young girls doing so well in music and I only hope we all continue to be a force and great role models for our fans.

Kode| You have a connection with pop star Justin Bieber who you opened up for on tour as well as had a relationship with do you still keep in contact with the young artist? Jasmine| We don’t talk as much these days, but when we do, it’s always great catching up with him. Kode| What can we expect next from Jasmine V?

Jasmine| You can expect my debut album coming next year and other great things that I can’t mention yet.. lol.

Kode| What’s the first thing you’d like people to know about Kendrick Sampson? Kendrick| I work hard. I do my best to be my best. Whether it’s philanthropy, studies, acting, writing, building a foundation for my production company, family, or just working on being at peace, I’m all about being productive to achieve the best results. Kode| What sparked the acting bug within you? Kendrick| It was a long process. My mom had me in the arts my entire life. I gravitated toward acting because it was the one art in my family that seemed to be my own. No one else seemed interested and I loved that, plus I always loved imitating people and telling stories. I like that I found an appropriate arena to exercise this apart from the car ride home. I finally told my mom when I was around 11 and she gave me a newspaper & said, “find an agent”. So, I did. Kode| Now you’ve been gracing our television screens for years now; in shows like Greek and Vampire Diaries what have been some of your favorite roles thus far? Kendrick| I think Dean Iverson in Gracepoint was my favorite so far because it was one of my more edgy and meaty characters. I really loved Jesse in Vampire Diaries as well... whenever I got to play the vampire, because, who doesn’t want that? Kode| What has the Gracepoint journey meant to you? Kendrick| It’s meant a lot of growth and humility. I’ve loved working with and learning from the veteran actors, producers, writers and crew. Deepened my understanding of collaborating, communication and professionalism. It also helped solidify my preference of quality. Kode| What can you tell us about your character Dean Iverson on Gracepoint and his journey? Kendrick| Dean is an edgy character with a hard background who doesn’t make all the best decisions, but has good intentions overall, no matter how it looks. I think everyone can relate to him. I know I can. He learns a lot about living with his decisions in this show. Kode| You’ve also began your foray into producing, what has that been like so far? Kendrick| It’s been great and extremely challenging. So far, I have started with a very small project to get my feet wet as well as shadowing producers and directors that I respect. I’m writing and gearing up for the bigger opportunities, ready for the rewarding challenges that lie ahead. Kode| What is your dream role to play? Kendrick| I’m writing them right now actually. There are several. I’m most interested in anti-heroes and villains. More fun to play. Would love to play characters that stir up trouble. Kode| So can you tell us what else is next for Kendrick Sampson?

Kode| How does it feel to be one of the few consistently working young black male actors, and do you see this as making you an inspiration to other young men who can see themselves in you in front of millions of viewers weekly? Kendrick| Being of mixed ethnic background I see myself representing many different people of color. I can relate to a lot of different people from different backgrounds, especially people who feel like outsiders or that they don’t fit in one specific group. I think it gives me an advantage and I work every day to live a good example of what I believe a man should be, regardless of background. I’m hoping my increasing presence in the big and small screen as well as the media will encourage those younger than me to pursue whatever they love most. Kode| You’ve really began to make a name for yourself in the fashion world with your impeccable style. What’s your secret weapon? Kendrick| My secret weapon is my stylist, Karen Raphael. She is slowly teaching me more and more. It’s hard. I’m just glad someone is taking notice so it’s not in vain. Kode| It’s pretty obvious that you are a rather attractive man, what is your love life looking like now days? Kendrick| No love life, yet. Learning to love family and build friendships right now. Single. Bachelor. Super Bachelor. Kode| We seem to be seeing you everywhere lately and on everyone’s one to watch list how are you handling the attention? Kendrick| I’m learning to handle it more wisely in doses. It’s humbling and daunting, the fight with the ego. I haven’t even reached the level of some of the more popular, yet, so I can only imagine. Kode| What inspires you most? Kendrick| People. People’s stories. The Bible. Love. Peace. Sex. And food.

Aside from the attractions that are great year round, if you’re headed down under for NYE you will be spending a lot of your time frolicking in the sand and partying. The Sydney coastline features several surf beaches, and outdoor pools carved out of cliffs. Bondi Beach is a top destination among tourists for its proximity to Sydney, iconic history, and great selection of bars and restaurants. If sipping (or gulping) magnum bottles of champagne piques your interest, head straight to The Bucket List Bar and Eatery located right on Bondi Beach. Sydney, like any other major city, is host to numerous parties, events, bars and nightclubs all celebrating the New Year. Whichever you decide to attend, you will want to make sure you are outside with a view of Sydney Harbor for one the most electrifying fire work shows in the world. It will truly be a magical way to cap off a great experience down under. Like genres such as disco, hip-hop, and punk, it became a fashion statement. When MTV was still all about music, they began to focus on grunge, bringing it to televisions throughout the country and into the fashion industry’s view. There was an ease about grunge, a style that anyone could achieve. The fashion industry has a tendency to take something relevant and use their influence to turn that something into a staple. When Vogue editor Grace Coddington put an 8-page spread in the magazine, designers took notice, and a uniform was born.

Ultimately, what has made grunge outlive the angst of the 90s is the individual approach people take to achieve it. It is a personal art of combining clothes from idiosyncratic and eccentric sources. Today, we can still see it exemplified in the world of style. Grunge radiates as what can be seen as effortless; it’s throwing on your worn old t-shirt, shredded jeans, and Doc Martens without brushing your hair. It is the art of careless dressing but doing it precisely.

Somewhere between art, architecture and performance, lies New York based artist Daniel Arsham. He has a sense of playfulness that can make architecture do what it isn’t supposed to do, confusing and mystifying the viewer. Have you seen his work the Hiding Figure? It looks like a man has been sucked into the paint of the wall. The seamlessness between the body and the wallpaper creates a facade that contradicts our normal ideas of art with Arsham’s ideas of spatial manipulation. It’s awesome, definitely some pretty cool, realistic modern art that is worth exploring.

For a while it seemed that Rihanna was hiding that diamond sparkle. We hadn’t heard a new album from her since 2012 and then she up and left Instagram! After we had become accustomed to her furious uploads of selfies her account was disabled after posting some scandalous editorial pics. But finally, Rihanna has finally rejoined civilization and has become active on IG again. With the use of her hashtag, #r8, rumors have began to fly about her eighth album. At a fan meet up recently in Paris, she filmed what they called a “sequence video”. It is believed to be part of an upcoming music video. There are museums, theaters, the famous opera house, a slew of adventurous activities, and some of the most well-known and beautiful beaches in the world. Australia is also located in the southern hemisphere which means that while your friends are bundled up next to a fire at home watching Ryan Seacrest, you’ll be hanging out poolside or at the beach working on your winter glow. One of the must see attractions in Sydney is the famous Sydney Opera House, the Expressionist arts complex has been a fixture of the Sydney Harbor since it’s opening in 1973. Today it is home to the Opera Australia, The Australian Ballet, The Sydney Theatre Company, and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Tours are offered throughout the year and this is also a great place to grab a bite to eat or enjoy a glass of wine while overlooking the beautiful Sydney Harbor. Also in Sydney Harbor is the largest steel arch bridge in the world. The Sydney Harbor Bridge, called the ‘Coathanger’ by locals, began construction in 1924 and was completed 8 years, 4.2 million dollars, 800 displaced families, and 16 fatalities later. Today the bridge is a top attraction and guests are able to climb the bridge day or night to experience amazing views and conquer that fear of heights. One of the more popular and less crowded times to book a climb is at sunrise, however this is also the most expensive tour and costs upwards of $358 for adults. In addition to man made architectural wonders, Sydney is a great place to experience wildlife; The Taronga Zoo and Sydney Aquarium are two of the most popular destinations. The Taronga Zoo features Australia’s finest collection of animals, breathtaking views of Sydney Harbor, and amazing animal encounters. You can have a live experience with a Koala for only $19.95! Make sure to book in advance. Aside from the attractions that are great year round, if you’re headed down under for NYE you will be spending a lot of your time frolicking in the sand and partying. The Sydney coastline features several surf beaches, and outdoor pools carved out of cliffs. Bondi Beach is a top destination among tourists for its proximity to Sydney, iconic history, and great selection of bars and restaurants. If sipping (or gulping) magnum bottles of champagne piques your interest, head straight to The Bucket List Bar and Eatery located right on Bondi Beach. Sydney, like any other major city, is host to numerous parties, events, bars and nightclubs all celebrating the New Year. Whichever you decide to attend, you will want to make sure you are outside with a view of Sydney Harbor for one the most electrifying fire work shows in the world. It will truly be a magical way to cap off a great experience down under.

Kode| You really seem to be a jack of all trade, you are a model, an actor, and a world-champion martial artist. Are you one who just really likes to keep busy?

Kode| Seeing that Instagram and social media is such a prevalent fixture in our everyday lives, how do you think that has changed the modeling industry?

Nick| Yes, very much so as long as I’m letting my mind run wild with following some crazy dream, I’m content. It’s risky but I can’t seem to live any other way. Kode| You are kind of like a ninja-model-badass, was martial arts your first love? Nick| LOL! Yes, martial arts was my first love, it taught all the values of respect and dedication and much more, lets just say its a big reason of why I am who I am today and I’m thankful for that. Kode| Since there seems to be nothing in the world you can not do, what is your dream role to play? Nick| Thank you, My dream role for a while was Gambit in X-Men, as I would be able to use my Bo Staff as the Character. Kode| You’ve had a widely successful modeling career! Having traveled all around the world, can you tell us how you got started conquering the fashion world? Nick| It took me a while to find my groove actually, but one of the big things that got the ball rolling for me was the 2009-2011 Abercrombie & Fitch Campaign appearing on the bags and walls. Kode| You are a pretty popular guy on social media, what do you think it is that gravitates so many to your online presence and how do you engage with your audience? Nick| I feel its a combination of things, Im very thankful that people have embraced my social media , I like to engage with my audience by posting my real life almost daily so they get an insight of what I’m doing from day to day whether it be travel, work, or leisure. Kode| You must have read some outrageous comments on your pictures. Any funny ones that you would like to share? Nick| Sure, of course! These girls are quite comical actually; “My Ovaries Exploded.”, A lot of “Marry me!”, “All of a sudden my panties are off…” HAHAHA all in all, they’re great compliments! Kode| At this point you could probably publish a book of all your shirtless photos. What is your workout routine and diet regimen like? Nick| Workout wise I do mainly body weight exercises like dips, chin ups, push ups, lunges, squats, crunches, leg raises and still working on the muscle up! Diet-wise, I try to stay away from sodium and processed foods, I eat mainly all natural. If it doesn’t go bad in a couple days I tend to stay away from it, I do have a cheat day once a week though!

Nick| I feel like its changed it in a major way. Social media is able to show how someones perceived image is “liked” by the public. If the public responds well to a models social media in mass quantity its a clear indication that the model is marketable and that is truly what fashion companies are looking for these days. Which is why you see celebrity actors, singers, and athletes doing most of todays campaigns. Kode| Acting is a completely different ball game than the modeling world, was this always something you kind of saw yourself doing or did modeling spark your interest in the craft? Nick| Actually, I did some acting before modeling when I was about 12 years old, only did a couple commercials, but it was for sure something I wanted to come back to and I’m happy I have. Kode| Out of all of your many hats, which one do you enjoy most; martial arts, acting, or modeling? Nick| Martial arts will always be in my heart, but right now the focus is acting, since I have an upcoming role that I will be doing a lot of preparation for. Kode| You are going to be taking on some huge acting gigs very soon, how are you preparing for your on-camera takeover? Nick| I will be doing coaching and classes for acting many times a week for quite an extended time. I want to train hard in the craft of acting as I did for martial arts when training for a world title. Kode| The entertainment industry can be a very complicated and maddening place, what inspires you most on a daily basis to continue what you do? Nick| Im just thankful for all the positive things in my life and I focus on that, as cheesy as it sound, I’m thankful when I eat, breathe, sh*t. Positivity and staying inspired by the awesome things and people you have around you isn’t too hard. Kode| So what would you say is the master plan here and ultimate accomplishment for Nick Bateman? What would you like for people to remember you by 20 years from now? Nick| By then i want to be known as a good Father and and a guy who always went for what he wanted! Kode| Now the big question. Nick are you single? Nick| That’s one thing I keep private in my life. If I have a girlfriend I want her and I’s relationship to ourselves, not in the publics eye.

Kode | Congratulations on the release of your new album! The reviews have been great, what does it feel like to finally have it out there to the world?

Nick| My character is a very complex and kind of mysterious. There’s a lot of emotion and drama on the show but my character, Nate, is a bit more quiet and brooding than the other characters. At the same time he’s also this ripped and edgy fighter, so it’s been enjoyably complex balancing the two sides to him; the physical strength and the emotional Nick| It feels great to be back and not only with brand solitude. Right now, I’m really into Soul and R&B so I’d love to work with The Weeknd or Sam Smith. Kode| Speaking of features and collaborations, what does the future hold for the Jonas Brothers? Will there be another album or maybe a feature track on your next project? Nick| You never know what the future holds, but right now I’m really focusing on my own path and making music that feels right to me and that I’ve been personally inspired by. Kode| The sound of the album is very different from what we’ve heard from you in the past. Can you give us a glimpse into your creative process for the project and what you were out to achieve with the sound? Nick| The creative process was all about opening up and collaborating with new people who inspire me to do better.

Kode| The music video for ‘Chains’ is very gripping and extremely stunning. You said that the song and video would set the tone for the next phase of your career. What did you mean by that? Nick| A lot of people, before this album, wouldn’t have thought of me as someone who can relate to these heavier themes and topics but I think that the video helped show a new more serious direction that I’m heading in. Kode| What does it feel like to finally truly be on your own; No brothers, No Administration, just Nick Jonas the man and artist? Nick| It’s really exciting. I’ve been able to do different things in the past, but now, I really get to explore this moment in my life. It’s this point where I can really pull from previously untapped influences, and deliver something that people never expected from me. Kode| It’s been some time since fans have gotten to see you on tour, I know you had a sold out club tour recently, now that the album is out do you think you’ll give them an arena tour for this project? Nick| The club tour was incredible! We visited 12 cities throughout the US and Canada and played for smaller venues, so I had the opportunity to really connect with my fans this time around. Playing in these venues, I could sense the passion coming from the audience but I’m really looking forward to getting back on the road for something a little bigger, where I can connect with even more of my fans. Kode| Now we know that you are also an actor and are currently starring in DirecTV’s show Kingdom. You play an MMA fighter who is very reserved and private. What can you tell us about the character you are playing and what that journey has been like for you?

Kode| With this new album you seemed to have really found your niche. It definitely has a much more mature sound and a darker R&B vibe going for it. What steered you in this direction rather than your more pop sounding roots?

Nick| When you’re acting, you’re trying to be someone else in order to get into the skin of this character. In my music, it’s all about expressing myself and putting my own feelings out there. So, the two processes feel pretty different for me. Kode| Incredible talents such as Justin Timberlake, Jennifer Lopez, and most recently Jared Leto have had very successful careers in both music and acting. Where would you like to see your acting career go and what is your dream role? Nick| I would love to continue to pop up in roles that people don’t expect for me, and to work with great directors and other actors who I can learn from and continue to grow. Kode| You are essentially the only young male act on the airways presently, are you enjoying being the only heartthrob reaching for the ladies hearts? Nick| I’m not sure if I’m the only one, but it is definitely flattering to get this kind of attention. Moving forward, I think I’m going to keep my shirt on for a little while and let my music take center stage. Kode| You and your brothers reached dizzying heights of success at a fairly young age with a fairly tame image what do you think it was that kept you from heading into the more good kid gone bad persona like similar young artists throughout history have?

Nick| I’m very fortunate to have gone through this journey with my family beside me, and I think that really helped to keep me grounded. I was lucky enough to have supportive people surrounding me throughout my life, helping me achieve my goals. Kode| In the scope of the current generation there is no male vocalist more successful than Justin Timberlake, are you taking any pointers or inspired in anyway by his career and has he by chance offered you any advice?

Nick| Being compared to Justin is awesome – he has had an incredible career, so it’s really cool to see people react in that way. Kode| We know your are big on family what are the holidays like with your family? Nick| Holidays with my family are all about downtime and just enjoying each other’s company… and obviously lots of music. Kode| How would you like to see yourself, your music, and your career evolve over the years to come? Nick| Right now, I’m living in this moment and loving all the great things that are coming my way. I’ve worked with some amazing people and had the opportunity to explore both music and acting. In the future I just want to continue to pursue the things that excite me and that I’m passionate about. Kode| Is there anything else that you would like to leave with your fans about this new chapter in your life? Nick| First, I should say thank you so much for all of the support for this record, it means so much to me. Going forward, I just hope that people continue to respond to the new paths I explore and join me for this ride.
