Surface-Active Folded Structures Workshop Participated in Designing the Middle Part of the Structure, Modeling

Structures Studies

This structure was very weak as it was very short in width. It will twist when it was loaded with horizontal and vertical forces.

After the study I model, I tried to create a smaller structure but it is still unstable as the bottom part of the structure is still very short in width and the both sides of the top were easy to bending when force is loaded on it.

At the beginning of this study structure, I had started by drawing the section lines and connected the ends of each line to form the triangle faces. After that I try to add the load on this structure, but it is not stable as we expected. The structure was very weak to overcome the horizontal and vertical forces loaded on it.

Top

Right

Front Section lines

This structure is more stable than the studies before and it is suitable to make as a module for the final model. The weakness of this structure can be solved by adding the triangle faces on the both sides to preserve it from bending.

Perspective

Top

After the first study structure, I decided to make a different structure by drawing the more complex section lines to find the differences between the simple folded structure and the complex folded structure. This structure was everted when the force was loaded on it. We need to add more triangle faces if we want to preserve the stability of the structure but it will affect the side view as it will make the space under the structure became more closed.

Right

Front

Top

Perspective

I tried to draw a more simple section lines after the studied the models of the structure V and VI. The model created this time was very rigid at the vertex, it was an unexpected result when drawing in the computer model. But there was also a weak point at this structure after I tried to make the loading on the other part of this structure. I tried to figure out how to improve the weakness of this structure. Adding a triangle face at the weak point or other? After trying for many times, I figured out the weakness point of the structure will become stronger if we let the valley of the structure deeper.

Final model

Right

Perspective

We try to make it cleaner and think about what can use to connect the module beside adding the structure. We take the added structure away and discover it will form a virtual space between the modules. It form the open space (hole) as the 2nd module and make the space under the connection was full with sunlight penetration and make a good spaces quality become a main road or entrance. We compare the three combinations and finally take the combination III as our final model because it fulfill the stability of structure and the need of the spaces quality of us.

Godard’s Respiration Space and Zig-zag Space Generate with the Two Forms of Action Image Advanced Cinemetrics : Generating Space Form, Movement & Time Images/ TsuenWan, HK - Done by Group Participated in 20s Presentation, Video Editing

Representation of Tsuen Wan with any means in 20 seconds presentation

Video cinemetric style and map the context of Chu Hai inside the new town within the larger context of Tsuen Wan as a whole

The first impression to the Tsuen Wan was the atmosphere is very different for the day and night. After I arrived to the hotel, I had hanged out around the street near the hotel. There are many signboards still lighting although there were just a little of shops opened. When it became day time, the slow pace of night time Tsuen Wan was transformed into a bustling, vibrant city. The constructions were worked in progress everywhere and go along the road to the campus was emerged another particular scene.

Our group were planned the route from the Tsuen Wan West MTR Station to the Tsuen Wan MTR Station as the route for this exercise to understand the Tsuen Wan city through the cinemetric scenes method.

Diagram at the left was shown that the technique of Godard using during the video was captured. The Red route was more emphasis on the pan view to represent the action images with the form of respiration spaces and zig-zag spaces along the route. The Blue route was emphasis on the track view technique to capture the continuous action images in the spaces.

The drawing above were using the drawing machines of the capture technique of Godard - pan, tilt and track. By using the drawing machines to draw the action images of the city, we can discover the differences of the city with the normal perspective view of our eyes. We can using this method to observe the spaces form by the action images in the city.
