AIQ19XPT The aim of the project is to create an aggregation centre around a urban green hub. A large green urban area where people can carry out multiple activities related to everyday life, leisure and contact with nature, in full respect of the cultural identity of the places. The current area is a mix of urban functions. Religion, commerce, tourism, leisure and other activities that are intertwined in a site that is currently lacking its own architectural style and cultural identity. At the moment, the only appreciable element is the large garden area, which is also the driving element of this part of Istanbul. A great resource in terms of environmental sustainability and urban ecology. In fact, in our project, greenery will be the driving force towards a high quality of urban life. The whole project area will be transformed into a large pedestrian area. The traffic flows will be interrupted through the construction of new underground roads for cars, buses and all motor vehicles. These will connect to an underground level located at an altitude of 15 meters lower than the current area of grounds. The project area thus freed, will become an urban aggregation hub in full respect of environmental sustainability and cultural integrity. The project envisages a radical intervention to empty the current hill on which the park of Piazza Taksim currently stands. The plants will be carefully explanted and temporarily planted at another site to be subsequently reused within the new urban park that will be configured. For this reason, in the executive project, an accurate time schedule of the explanting operations will be drawn up so that the plants can suffer slight trauma in the best climatic conditions. The hill will be emptied up to an altitude of - 20.00 m from the current area of the square and up to intercept the existing underground services axis. In its place there will be a building on four elevations, two of which are underground, one semi-underground and the last in elevation, located at the altitude of the Mete road. The new park will rise on the roof of this building and will have an extension of about 26,000.00 square meters. The building, which will have all the bio-architectural construction features of a passively and energetically autonomous building, will be completed by a small service block, located to the north / west (with a surface of 2,400.00 square meters) with a threeterrace construction system and gardens hanging, and a large photovoltaic pergola located to the south / east, of the surface of 8,000.00 square metersv, which, in addition to forming a large shaded area in front of the mosque, will have the function of producing about 800 Kw / h of solar energy. This will make the entire area self sufficient from an energy point of view. However, the light will continue to filter beneath it, by the use of the transparent photovoltaic panels. The intervention will be completed by the construction, on the entire perimeter of the project area, of a steel porch, with textile tensile structures with shading function, which in addition to evening the fronts of the large square will constitute a long compact corridor of vertical greenery, to be achieved through the use of local plant essences grown with hydroponic techniques. A long green front that will develop for a length of m. 900.00, interrupted only in correspondence with the streets affluent to the square, for a height ranging from 6.00 to 8.00 m and for an area of approximately 12,500.00 m2. The red steel structure, as articulated, simulates the swaying of the stems of poppy flowers cradled in the fields by the morning breeze. The project also involves the rearrangement of the north-eastern area of Taksim square, which is currently at the exclusive service of the Ataturk library, which will be integrated through a set of works that will make the intervention homogeneous and architecturally identifiable. This area, as well as systems of squares and organized greenery, will be made attractive to the younger generations thanks to services dedicated to them: water games, skate track, cycle paths, playgrounds, caves for outdoor performances. A characterizing element of the project will also be the presence of different sources and ponds, in memory of the fact that originally Taksim Square was the point where the main water lines of the north of Istanbul were collected and from there they branched out into other parts of the city (hence the name). In this way, numerous bodies of water and rivers will bring to mind the original function of places. The HUB The main building, with a plan size of approximately 162.00 x 162.00 m, will be arranged on four levels and, given its dimensions, will be vertically perforated by a steel and glass cone, with a base diameter of approximately 40.00 m.
