1.EXTEND GEZI PARK
''DESIGN THE EDGE''
Respect to nature, history, and people
We don't touch the inside of Gezi park basically, because it has already rich vesitation, history, and also loved by people. The problem is only the edge. Because of the existing topography the level of Gezipark is far from the city ground, and also less function and place for people on the edge. It reduce the relationship between the park and the city.
EXISTING Gezi Park can not be part of square because of its topography
PROPOSAL Make space on the edge

Taksim Urban Square and Park, in tthe heart of the City of Istanbul, is not only urban square but a larger vision encompassing past and future, people and culture, nature and art. It is not about displaying but inviting in, going away from the simple sontemplation to suggest participation and interactions. The essence of nature, history and art can be brouth in much deeper ways. Away from theconventional urban square and park, wechose to let architecture cradle the visitors and daily users along their way. No clear path, pedestrians meander around the park, invading the space like a contunious flow whose intensity varies along with the days, just as green permeates space, bouncing around surfaces, running along streets. Taksim Urban Square and the park is also the vision of a 21st centruy urban place, highly integrated to the environment by all means. Ecologically friendly as well as aesthetically, fitting carefully to the landscape and soul of the park, the vision of the

Flexible design: Open to people to involve design The design of the edge can be redesigned by people considering complicated demands or problems in the city. This idea is totally open to people. This is just design code to have deep discussion with people.
VARIETY OF SPACE, ACTIVITY AND NATURE
ROOF-SCAPE:PARTICLE OF FOREST / ROOFS IN THE CITY
The extended and spreaded ground provides multiple and various space, which can be a place for not only for people but also for nature. Extended ground with greens which has same vesitasion and scale of space makes place for people on and under it. Interior space also can be put, and provide some function and activities. The place on the edge connect city and the park strongly in the sense of landscape, various activity, atmosphere, and also views. Many various shape of particle of ground that we call 'island" spreads around the site. It makes space under it as a roof, and it provides various functions all around the site. It's a kind of device to activate multiple activity and rich landscape around it.
Allowing to be seperated events but also feeling togetherness and belong the areaand society. In our proposal, basically we make space by using roof (can be also called as extended ground). Roofs make space for people and it can devide space, but still open in the sense of view, air and accesibility. In other words, Roofs devide but connect space. We focused on this way of making space and applied to this huge site, to devide into smaller spaces but still open and connected each other. Roofs gently devide the square into some groups which has different character each. For example, Art space, Monument space,
Extension of the park / Make intimate space in huge urban square Now in the present situation, the square doesn't have a scale for people. It's too huge, no reference points for people. To make intimate space in the huge site, small particles of the park are spread around, which is combined with furniture. Small particles will be a reference point. People can feel intimacy with trees and furniture, and they can find a place to stay and live. And also some lamps works as furniture too for people to sit on. From small one to bigger one, all new structure are designed for people to feel friendly.
market space, etc. These each program are defined by surrounding situation. And roofs spread around the site and cover some existing functional points: exit of station, bus stop, notice, etc. The roofs are all different shape but have all same design code, which makes sense of community for people. Very huge square but people can feel same atmosphere because of this roofs.

TECHNICAL CONCEPT SUPPORTING STRUCTURE CONCEPT The plan is to randomly arrange columns on an organic free-form roof. Structural type is steel frame. It has a rigid frame structure. The columns will be steel pipe with a circular cross section, and the rigidity of the stakes will be increased to increase the seismic load. It becomes possible to effectively and heavily resist. The span is basically about 6m and supports the planting zone. It will be about 4.5m at the part. The roof beams are triangular to connect the stigmas to randomize the pillar layout. Arraged to form a shape mesh. The beam is planned to be H shaped steel with a height of about 350 mm. Katsura beam connection. The joint part will be a column though, and a through diaphragm thicker than the beam flange will be provided. Existing underground structure. Since it may exist near the surface, the pedestal is an exposed pedestal and is directly anchored to the existing underground structure. Plan to do. Deck slabs are installed on the roof, and concrete ensures sufficient rigidity. However, the vibration due to walking etc. is suppressed. The structure can be divided into three zones: the vertically floating volume, the transparent ground floor, and the reinforcement of existing underground. The floating volume (so called ‘Roof’) is defined as a series of bow string shaped trusses (marked in blue and red on the structural diagram) acting 3-dimensionality within the shape to contribute to structural efficiency. Both upper and lower layer structural frames are comprised of steel frames curved 3-dimensionally following the architectural curve. Even thoughboth layers have organic openings, simplified orthogonal steel frames can easily adjust to accomidatehe opening locations. Also, to reduce of the weight of the structure, composite slab is used for a rigid diaphragm against lateral load. As the result of bow shape structural analysis, the floating one could omit the diagonal frame and minimize the nominal steel column dimensions to reduce its weight. Since the reinforced shear walsl are situated far from the centroid, a Transparent Glass Wall (TGW) is proposed for floating structure. This TGW is an unit with plank glass and perimeter steel frame and Oil damper. On the ground-floor, the floating volume is supported by thin, freely positioned columns (mimicking the trunks of the surrounding trees) and a reinforced core clad with reflective material to keep the transparency of the ground floor.

INNOVATION IN WATER MANAGEMENT WATER MANAGEMENTCumhuriyet street and Taksim Urban square is newly changed ground floor material so called water free barier which has own water canal and letting rain water thorugh. Since Undergroudn road is not allowing any water pipe inclination, this new innovative material allow rain water collection in to burried cisterns which can use for landscape and park manintance.

Moisture Bacteria for Soil SQPV is a technology that absorbs ultraviolet light and infrared light to generate electricity. Since it transmits visible light, it can add heat shielding and power generation functions to all applications where ordinary glass can be used. While it transmits visible light as well as ordinary glass, it also absorbs infrared light (heat shield), making it possible to develop applications as energy-saving heat-shielding and power-generating glass materials with high designability. The heat effect is said to be effective in saving energy in buildings.
