Tranquillity and omnipresent nature define Piwniczna-Zdrój – a spa located in the heart of the Beskid Sądecki, in the picturesque valley of the Poprad River, in the south of Lesser Poland. This is an ideal spot for everybody who seeks rest, a contact with nature, who wants to listen raptly to the rustle of the forest and river, who wants to admire undisturbed landscapes and drink healthy, mineral water.
So is Piwniczna-Zdrój at first sight. However, when we get to know the place better, we will see its second nature – a land with a rich history and folklore. Walking around the green forests of Piwniczna, we will see the traces of the long history of the region. We will be able to
familiarise ourselves with the history of war couriers who, during the Second World War, used forest paths to get to the border or partisans who fought there. The valley of the Poprad River reminds us of merchants who travelled with carriages full of Hungarian wine along the trade route in the direction of Cracow.
Piwniczna-Zdrój is also known for its folklore as the land has been dwelled in by Black Highlanders who created the culture of the region – they weave carter’s gloves, graze sheep and make sheep cheese, cook regional dishes, paint and sculpt. Their traditions are presented at various events in the commune.
On Obidza
In these forests of the Beskids, within the Poprad Landscape Park, over Piwniczna-Zdrój, in Obidza at no 1, at 838 m there is Domek na Obidzy (the Cottage on Obidza). The place ideally integrates into the landscape which
surrounds it. It is a place perfect for those who seek beautiful views, contact with nature and tranquillity of a forest and want to try the local cuisine.
A wooden cottage
Domek na Obidzy is a climatic, wooden cottage which offers two 3-person rooms and a double one. Each of them has a private bathroom. The rooms are decorated with wood in a rustic style and their biggest advantage is the view of Obidza and the Poprad River Valley from
their windows. Guests have access to a common dining room and a kitchenette equipped with all necessary utensils, pots, a stovetop, a fridge, a dishwasher, a toaster and a coffee machine.
In the garden
In the garden there is a relaxational zone with garden furniture and a spot ideal for picnics. There is a barbecue and a place for a campfire. Children can play in fresh air at a specially prepared playground.
Pets
Not only do wooden interiors or views create the atmosphere of the place, but also its four-legged hosts. There are ponies which work with children, black sheep, goats, a cat and shepherd dogs. All animals are friendly towards visitors and love caressing. Thanks to them Domek na Obidzy offers such treats as goat’s milk added to a morning cup of coffee.
If you enjoyed treats served in Domek na Obidzy, you can take them with you as there is a shop with organic
products ‘Madra’ where one can purchase healthy, regional products.
