Krynica-Zdrój, a spa with a vibe

Krynica-Zdrój is a popular resort in the south of Poland, on the border between the Beskid Sądecki and the Low Beskids. Although it was created several hundreds years ago as a village under the Vlach law by the Kryniczanka Stream, thanks to its mineral waters, it quickly developed into an attractive resort. Great artists and famous personalities visited the place for many years. Krynica lies at the foot of Jaworzyna Krynicka (1,114 m) and is surrounded by the Beskid forests. Park Mountain (742 m) towers over Deptak (a promenade). This location creates an exceptional climate and gives a lot of possibilities for

hiking and doing sports, either winter or summer ones. It constitutes a great starting point if you want to hit panoramic hiking and cycling trails. You may also go for a walk along a path in treetops or climb a panoramic platform. In the town itself, you can admire spa architecture including wooden villas, the modern Mineral Water Pump Room and interesting museums. This popular spot is a great tourist base – you will find accommodation of various standards and numerous restaurants there. The most interesting are the regional ones where you can get to know the taste of Krynica.

Janówka Clearing

Although CristalPatio Restaurant is situated in the centre of Krynicy-Zdroju, its location in a side street which goes off Deptak makes it a very peaceful spot. From one side, green Parkowa Mountain (742 m) towers over it at the foot of which the Kryniczanka flows. From the other side it neighbours ‘Jan’ Mineral Water Pump Room. The monument

of Nikifor Krynicki with his animal companion – Chałek, the dog, greets people coming from the third side. It is an extremely climatic place where we can finish our walk along Deptak or to Parkowa Mountain. There, you can relax, drink water and finally have a good meal.

Charming interiors

Such a beautifully located building has equally beautiful interiors which encourage meetings with family or friends. The downstairs area is open on a daily basis. The upper one, which has a separate entrance directly from a car

park or from downstairs serves as a place for various receptions, business meetings and parties. Friendly service and exquisite cuisine is a significant complementation.

Delicious cuisine

Apart from regional and typical Polish dishes, the restaurant also serves European ones. All of them are prepared with attention to detail from fresh ingredients from local suppliers. The menu includes mountain dishes and tastes which remind us of Beskid forests. Red pine mushrooms, a delicacy from Krynica, moskole (potato shortbreads) with bacon and bryndza (a kind of sheep cheese) or oscypek

(another kind of sheep cheese) with cranberry will be ideal for a starter. Regional kwaśnica with potatoes and a smoked rib, aromatic żurek with penny buns or classic broth are great propositions if you feel like having soup. A variety of meats, for instance, stewed mutton or honey ribs, fish, Polish dumplings with cheese, meat or red pine mushrooms and finally Italian pasta are among main courses.

Dances and knees-up

The tradition of dances in Krynica dates back to the 20’s of the 20th century. Health visitors came to Krynica in order to regain health and after their treatments they looked for a chance to have fun. People danced to live music and it was a great chance to meet new people. During the Interwar Period dances were organised in Chorążówka

Restaurant and in the restaurant on Parkowa Mountain. Famous Hawana was the place in the 70’s where Pudelsi used to perform. Today we can have great fun in CristalPatio. Be sure to follow their fanpage – information about current events is always available there.

Italian pizza is the pearl on the menu. It is made in a beechwood-fired oven imported from Verona. Pizza is made on traditional thin dough with a variety of ingredients – either classical or regional ones.

Receptions

CristalPatio Restaurant is a great spot to organise receptions or business meetings. It offers two rooms which will seat 250 guests in total. In summer guests can also take advantage of a garden for 100 guests. Every event is organised with great service, an excellent menu and can be enriched with live music or karaoke.

‘Jan’ Mineral Water Pump Room

After or before a meal to whet our appetite, we should visit historic ‘Jan’ Mineral Water Pump Room which is next door. It is a beautiful wooden building with a hipped roof and a dome which dates back to 1933. There used to be two pavilions as there are two springs – ‘Jan’ and ‘Józef’.

‘Józef’ spring owes its name to Józef Merunowicz – the chief executive of the Sanitary Department of the Governorship in Lviv, who rendered a great service to the town. Jan, however, was a person who delivered water to health visitors. Inside, we can admire an exhibition of paintings.
