Krynica-Zdrój is a popular resort in the south of Poland, on the border between the Beskid Sądecki and the Low Beskids. Although it was created several hundreds years ago as a village under the Vlach law by the Kryniczanka Stream, only thanks to its mineral waters it quickly developed into an attractive resort. Great artists and famous personalities visited it for many years. Krynica lies at the foot of Jaworzyna Krynicka (1,114m) and is surrounded by the Beskid forests. Park Mountain (742 m) towers over Deptak (a promenade). This location creates an exceptional climate and gives a lot of possibilities for

At the gate of Krynica

Kopciowa is a small estate situated in the north of Krynica-Zdrój. It is a quiet, forested part of the town famous for a regional restaurant. We will find there a forester’s lodge, a few villas, guest houses and…once again forests. Together with the Huta Pass (745 m) located 3 km further, Kopciowa is a sort of a gate to the town. We will not enter Krynica in a different way than along a regional road 981 which leads through the pass and the estate. This place constitutes a border between the Low Beskids and the Beskid Sądecki. In spite of the fact that Krynica is surrounded by the Beskid woods, this is where we see them, their greenness and omnipresence for the first time. Reaching Krynica from the north, driving along DK75, we go straight into the forest!

hiking and doing sports, either winter or summer ones. It constitutes a great starting point if you want to hit various panoramic hiking and cycling trails. You may also go for a walk along a path in the treetops or climb a panoramic platform. In the town itself, you can admire spa architecture including wooden villas, the modern Mineral Water Pump Room and interesting museums. This popular spot is a great tourist base as you will find accommodation of various standards and numerous restaurants there. The most interesting are the regional ones where you can get to know the taste of Krynica.

The regional restaurant with a history

There, on the outskirts of the popular resort, among the mountains, in a fairy land one would say, Cichy Kącik Regional Restaurant (Quiet Corner Regional Restaurant) is located. This is the kind of a regional restaurant you are looking for. It lies in a peaceful place surrounded by beautiful nature, it is regional with a long history, beautiful interiors which are also regional and, most importantly, with delicious, traditional cuisine. Cichy Kącik has existed since 1936 so, in good conscience, we can call it a place with a history and traditions. The original building was small – it was constructed by Stanisław Rechowicz and his parents. At the time when guests could not be invited inside, they were offered dishes from an

Today Cichy Kącik is a large building which can hold up to 130 guests. In summertime it can host 100 people in a beautiful garden which smells of flowers and herbs. The interiors are of the Highlander and folk style and have ideally chosen decorations which create a special

open-air buffet on the grass. The place had already been extremely popular. After the War, it was nationalised. Fortunately in 1956, after reaching an agreement with the mayor of Krynica, the restaurant came back to the Smodrzewski Family who had been its owners before the nationalisation. Initially, Mr Lucjan Smodrzewski was a waiter and his wife was a cook. They managed to make the place great again. With time, dance evenings and concerts were organised. In 2008 new owners, Dariusz and Marzena Mikulscy, renovated the place completely so that it could meet the requirements of its guests at a possibly highest standard preserving Highlander style and a historic atmosphere.

atmosphere. Hand-painted flowers are a special element of the decor. Highlander music plays in the background and staff wearing folk costumes serve regional dishes.

The Highlander cuisine

The cuisine served in the restaurant is regional. We will find there Highlander, Lemko and Hungarian tastes popular in the region. Cichy Kącik serves diverse dishes prepared according to old traditions – after all the restaurant is 100 years old! The recipes are passed from generation to generation and dishes are made according to traditional methods known only to the employees of the place.

We can pop in for breakfast, lunch, dinner with dessert and supper. There is a wide selection of alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks.

Smoked oscypek with cranberry, red pine mushrooms stewed in butter, beef tartare or crispy livers basted with

śliwowica (regional plum vodka) – mouths start to water and these are only starters. Among soups we will find classical broth, zalewajka (potato soup made with sour rye and smoked meat), barberry (sauerkraut soup ) or wild garlic soup. The main courses constitute the richest part of the menu. There are typical, rustic dishes, classical Polish ones and something for vegans and vegetarians. Golden potato pancakes served with sour cream or mushroom sauce, rustic black pudding with cabbage, roasted veal with golden chanterelles, ox tongue with horseradish sauce, mutton burger, Polish beef steak or fried trout with fresh herbs. Those who prefer meatless dishes may try dumplings, for example, with bryndza (sheep cheese) or barley.

Business events, family celebrations, weddings

Cichy Kącik is a great place to organise various events such as regional feasts, business dinners, trainings, banquets, business meetings, family celebrations, birthday parties, communion, baptism, anniversary and wake receptions. Of course weddings are a separate category. You can spend your special day at the place. The staff will tailor decorations to the occasion and provide exquisite food. There is space for feasting, dancing to live music or the one played by a DJ.

On special request Cichy Kącik will provide a special menu, live music, a professional MC, decorations, exquisite alcohol or pyrotechnic effects.

Summer evenings with a storyteller and a band

The surroundings of the restaurant are truly beautiful in summer – fresh air, mountains, beautiful views, mountain trails. For those who want to combine feasting with visiting the area, carriage rides in the valleys and woods are organised. This is great fun for families with children. After such a ride, a barbecue is organised. Evenings with storytelling are an additional attraction. A storyteller will entertain guests for the whole evening and make them laugh. Evenings and nights to the rhythm of music played by a regional band will guarantee a good time. Enthusiasts of good food should come to the restaurant for the Summer Feast of Trout, the Feast of Red Pine Mushroom or the Pork Knuckle Festival.

Winter sleigh rides with a feast

In winter the restaurant organises sleigh rides with torches at the end of which there is a campfire. A visit to the restaurant will enrich such an event as in winter it is exceptionally warm and cosy. Hot tea, mulled wine and

regional delicacies await you there. Feasts by the fire to the rhythm of live Hilander music are also popular. Regional dishes and best alcohols are served then.

The best regional restaurant

The excellent cuisine and atmosphere of the place has been appreciated a lot of times. For four years in a row (since 2011) Cichy Kącik was chosen the best regional restaurant in Poland and took part in an extremely prestigious project called Poland 100 Best Restaurants. In 2013 the restaurant was awarded as the best Regional Restaurant of Lesser Poland and got the Certificate of a Regional Restaurant in Lesser Poland. Two years later it took third place.
