Krynica-Zdrój, a spa with a vibe
Krynica-Zdrój is a popular resort in the south of Poland, on the border between the Beskid Sądecki and the Low Beskids. Although it was created several hundreds years ago as a village under the Vlach law by the Kryniczanka Stream, thanks to its mineral waters, it quickly developed into an attractive resort. Great artists and famous personalities visited the place for many years. Krynica lies at the foot of Jaworzyna Krynicka (1,114 m) and is surrounded by the Beskid forests. Park Mountain (742 m) towers over Deptak (a promenade). This location creates an exceptional climate and gives a lot of possibilities for
hiking and doing sports, either winter or summer ones. It constitutes a great starting point if you want to hit panoramic hiking and cycling trails. You may also go for a walk along a path in the treetops or climb a panoramic platform. In the town itself, you can admire spa architecture including wooden villas, the modern Mineral Water Pump Room and interesting museums. This popular spot is a great tourist base – you will find accommodation of various standards and numerous restaurants there. The most interesting are the regional ones where you can get to know the taste of Krynica.
The Gallery of Flavours
Galeria Smaków under the cinema (the Gallery of Flavours under the cinema) is a restaurant located in the centre of Krynica-Zdrój, in Marszałek Józef Piłsudski Street, right under the Jaworzyna Cinema in a beautiful building of the Centre of Culture. It is only a stone’s throw from Deptak. It is worth visiting after trekking in the mountains or winter craze on the slope to taste local
cuisine served in beautiful interiors. The restaurant offers delicious, homemade dishes at affordable prices. It specialises in either the regional cuisine or more traditional Polish dishes with some European touches. We may eat a typical Sunday dinner or try an interesting Highlander dish there.
Snacks and soups
As befits a gallery, ‘the Gallery of Flavours’ offers diverse, always tasty and beautifully served courses prepared from the best ingredients by the best cooks. Herring served in a variety of ways is undoubtedly the king of the refreshments, nevertheless, it can bow before the king
of Highlander cuisine i.e. oscypek (traditional sheep cheese) or Highlander lard. Soups will make a great first course – both classical ones such as broth, tomato or beetroot soup and regional ones such as barberry or soup made of bryndza (sheep cheese).
The main course
The menu abounds in main courses. You will find there various meats, vegetarian dishes and dishes dedicated to children. Pork dishes include pork chops, Swiss cutlets, escalopes, tenderloins, ham hocks prepared in different ways. There is also a Galicia cutlet or a Highlander steak.
Poultry, beef and a selection of fish is present on the menu as well. For those who prefer vegetarian dishes, the restaurant prepares potato pancakes, salads, dumplings in more than a dozen varieties.
The regional cuisine
Regional dishes take a lead among the most commonly chosen ones in the restaurant. After all, the restaurant is located in Krynica-Zdrój, in the region where delicious, local cuisine full of wonderful tastes – Lemko, Highlander and sometimes even Hungarian – has been served for years. Regional dishes are filling, aromatic and can be associated with forests and mountains which surround Krynica-Zdrój. Their main ingredients are local cheeses, mushrooms, vegetables and meat. Saffron milk caps fried on butter, oscypek served with cranberries, dumplings with bryndza or saffron milk caps will make your mouth water. A Highlander steak, bryndza soup, a potato pancake in Krynica style or local trout in cream are highly recommended among all the main courses.
Live music
Dishes, even though mouth-watering, are not the only attraction of the place. You should visit the restaurant to dance to the rhythm of live music! Dances have become a tradition of this town. Music encourages having fun, the bar offers a wide selection of drinks and snacks from the menu – herring, oscypek or lard taste the best. Such an event is a great opportunity to have fun together, celebrate or get to know each other in beautiful interiors.
Special events
The restaurant can organise special events of various kinds – birthdays, anniversaries, business meetings, communion, baptism or wedding receptions. The place
offers an excellent menu, decorations suitable to a given event and music on special request. A good time and peace of mind will be guaranteed!
