A town on a trail
Piwniczna-Zdrój is a small town situated in the heart of the picturesque Poprad River Valley in the Beskid Sądecki. It is ideal for holidays, a weekend stay or business meetings. Omnipresent peace lets us relax and a mountainous area provides numerous attractions.
In the centre of the town we will find a small square with a historic layout and buildings. The history of Piwniczna-Zdrój dates back to the 14th century – it is when Casimir III the Great established a town on this land which was supposed to protect the trade route leading from Hungary to the capital of Poland. By the Square, there is the small Regional Museum and a few restaurants.
The Square is crossed by tourist routes which lead to the most beautiful corners of the commune. Węgielnik Hill, from which you can see the whole valley, towers over the town. Standing at the top of it, you will also see war trenches. From the town, we can also reach Eliaszówka (1,023 m) following the steps of war couriers and smugglers, Hala Łabowska (1,061 m), which used to be a hideout for the underground army, and the highest mountain of the Beskid Sądecki – Radziejowa (1,266 m). Piwniczna is surrounded by small villages scattered over the slopes of the Beskid Sądecki. The whole commune is the land of Black Highlanders – people of rich traditions who created a delicious cuisine, full of cheese and mutton, and exceptional handicraft including famous ‘furmańskie’ gloves (a carter’s gloves).
A spa by the Poprad River
However, the most valuable treasure of this land is definitely mineral water which is present in the area thanks to a specific topography of the Beskid Sądecki. Under the mountains, in between the rocks, water saturates with various minerals and elements and flows out within the
borders of the town and the commune in order to serve its healing properties to citizens and tourists. If we add the climate of the region, fresh air and ubiquitous greenness to it, we will get a wonderful resort where every minute spent is priceless.

Kids Spa
Kids Spa is an amazing zone devoted to a small princess or a small prince. Among treatments for the youngest, we will find fruit baths, choccofairy i.e. a chocolate, fragrant compress for the whole body, a fairy tattoo which would enchant every child and something that little girls like the most – fairy nails. Every kid will appreciate a stay in Kids Spa, a place which has been created especially for them.
What is balneotherapy?
Balneotherapy is a part of physiotherapy comprising treatments which use mineral water of different temperatures or peloids (geological formations which, after combining with water, have therapeutic properties) such as peat, clay or gas. This field was developed on a large scale in Ancient Rome – Hippocrates is said to have used it. Today it helps either as a complementary treatment for various diseases or it is used prophylactically.
Kicarz restaurant is a place where hotel guests may try local cuisine. Hotel chefs prepare dishes in the spirit of regional traditions – the traditions of Black Highlanders. The menu has been composed with the use of natural, local ingredients. Different kinds of cheese, including regional sheep cheese ‘oscypek’, venison, freshwater fish and fragrant herbs dominate on a plate. Irrespective of the fact that prepared food draws from old traditions, it
is served in a modern way. Apart from local dishes, guests will be able to choose from some European ones as well. The most interesting menu positions include wildfowl consommé, pheasant ravioli, duck with raspberry dressing, roasted trout with vegetable ratatouille, wild boar and root vegetable stew or beef tartare with a frozen yolk and mushrooms chutney. A sophisticated menu will not be an obstacle for children as there is a seperate kids’ menu.
