Chabówka is a small village located right by a popular resort – Rabka-Zdrój, in the Rabczańska Valley. The valley is a so-called mesoregion in the Western Beskids. From the north-east it borders on the Island Beskids, from the north-west on the Maków Beskids, from the south-east on the Gorce Mountains and from the south and the west on the Orawa-Podhale Beskids. The region was marked out not so long ago – in 1972 and it was called
Waterways, railways and roads
Two significant rivers run through the Rabczańska Valley – the Skawa and the Raba. The smallest distance between them is 1.5 km and, in this place, the Watershed goes between them. Due to the fact that the valley is situated between a few mountain ranges, two main roads cross there as well – from Cracow and Nowy Sącz to Zakopane and Chyżne. The valley is also crossed by the railway from Cracow to Zakopane and the one from Nowy Sącz to Chabówka which does not operate any more. The Rabczańska Valley is a relatively flat land, hence, it is simple to build there. As a consequence, it is densely populated and the natural environment, due to human activity, has been significantly transformed. The biggest towns in the region is Rabka-Zdrój and other big settlements include Jordanów, Skomielna Biała, Skawa and Spytkowice.
the Sieniawska Pass then. In 1995 the name was changed into the Orawa-Jordanów Foothills. It is a small area as its total length from the west to the east is approximately 10 km and its width from the south to the north about 9 km. Its biggest peaks are Grzebień (677 m), Zbójecka Góra (Brigand Mountain, 644 m), Bania (607 m) and Tatarów (710 m.). The average elevation of the area is 500 –600 m.
‘U Żura’ Ski Station is located in the very Rabczańska Valley, in Chabówka which is next to Rabka-Zdrój. It is an ideal place for a family holiday with the youngest ones as the runs are well-groomed and safe. Thanks to the landform, they are on a mild and very wide slope. The runs are easy, hence, they are recommended to children and adult beginners. The station offers a platter lift which
One step away from schussing
The slope, thanks to its landform, is perfect for learning and improving one’s skills. Well-qualified, young, energetic instructors await eager students. They will teach with great commitment everyone who is ready to plunge into the winter craze. As we know, the learning process is the most efficient at an early age so the ski school which operates within ‘U Żura’ Ski Station aims mainly at children. The programme is adjusted to the age and level of trainees. In the case of the youngest skiers, play-oriented learning is implemented. Of course, adults can also take advantage of skiing lessons. What is more, lessons are always safe and pleasant so that everybody is satisfied and content. It is really worth trying something, which may turn out to be your lifelong passion.
is 350 m long and a line one which is 100 m long. The slope is lit until late so we can enjoy winter conditions for a long time. Additionally, when weather conditions are good, a luge track is open. It is located on a specially designated area on the slope and ends with a vast flat space. It is free of charge and widely-available.
A mild, wide slopeEquipment always ready
Those who do not have their own equipment should not worry. Everyone can participate in winter fun on a slope as there is a rental next to ‘U Żura’ Ski Station. The facility offers over a hundred pairs of skis, including cross-country ones, and snowboards of various sizes. There is also
A service for everybody
Ensuring safety of their guests, ‘U Żura’ Ski Station offers a professional service point for the equipment which does not belong to the rental. Every person can entrust their

equipment with the service point where well-qualified staff will take care of lubricating, sharpening, regenerating slides or assembling and regulating bindings.
Well-deserved relaxation in a regional restaurant
After an active day, skiers and snowboarders can rest in the warm and cosy interiors of a regional restaurant which serves homemade dishes. The place offers dinners, bar dishes and the speciality of the place i.e. pizza from a wood-burning stove. The restaurant is a great observation point of the slope so guests can watch their children
skiing or snowboarding and drink tea, coffee or mulled wine. When the sun shines, one can take a rest on a terrace with tables and sunbathe. If winter is generous with snow, a hill is made in front of the restaurant for the youngest ones who eagerly take advantage of it.
If you happen to be in the vicinity, you must go for a walk to the Spa Park in Rabka-Zdrój. It is one of the biggest parks in Lesser Poland and covers an area of 30 ha. Within the park, there is a healing facility which consists of a brine graduation tower and a mineral water
pump room. The brine present at the place comes from the ‘Helena’ borehole. If you feel like going for a longer hike, consider a trip along the Papal Trail which leads into the Gorce and the Island Beskids. The trail starts at the monument of John Paul II.
In the vicinity
Rabka-Zdrój, a resort which is situated next to Chabówka, is a real treat for health visitors. The local brine has been popular since the 13th century and a famous Polish chronicler, Jan Długosz, wrote about its implementation in the nearby Monastery of the Cisterians. In the middle of the 19th century, relying on scientific research, it was
stated that the brine from Rabka was one of the strongest iodine-bromine brines in Europe. Soon afterwards, the first bathing and healing centre was erected. Today, Rabka-Zdrój is popular as a spa which uses its waters and microclimate to treat mainly diseases of the respiratory tract and the circulatory system.
