A royal spa

Piwniczna-Zdrój seems to be a small, old town which, in reality, is a royal town created under Magdeburg rights in 1348 by Casimir III the Great close to a trade route which led to Hungary. The initial name ‘Piwniczna – Neck’ was connected with the lie of the land and, to be more specific, the narrowing of the Poprad River Valley in that place. A busy trade route to Hungary and various royal privileges significantly influenced the prosperity of the place. At the turn of the 18th and 19th century, the town experienced significant economic and industrial growth. In this period mills, a paper mill, a saw mill, an inn, an

auger mill and fulling mills were built and craft started developing. The construction of a school was finished at the time too. A well situated on the Square, a historic treasure, is a relic of ‘kasta’ (a wooden chest with water) built in 1801. Another important step in the development of the town was creating a rail connection from Nowy Sącz to Muszyna in the years 1874 - 1876. As a part of the modernisation process, in 1912 the town was illuminated with kerosene lamps – 8 lanterns, and the streets adjacent to the centre were paved.

A resort among mountain tops

Piwniczna-Zdrój is a small, mountainous resort, located over the Poprad river which naturally divides the town into a spa and a town area. The spa, free from any type of industry, is a part of the spa complex in the Beskid Sądecki thanks to numerous mineral water springs on this land. Apart from Piwniczna-Zdrój, the complex includes Krynica-Zdrój, Szczawnica, Muszyna, Żegiestów, Wierchomla, Łomnica or Tylicz. It is really hard to believe but mineral water springs in this area constitute 60% of all mineral waters in Poland. The mineral waters of Piwniczna-Zdrój will be of assistance in the treatment of the respiratory tract and the digestive system diseases.

Piwniczna borders on Szczawnica Commune from the west, Rytro Commune from the northwest, Głębokie and Kokuszka from the northeast and Łomnica-Zdrój from the east. The southern border of the commune is, at the same time, the country’s border with Slovakia. We could say that Piwniczna-Zdrój bends in between the mountains of the Beskid Sądecki – a part of its area is located on the slopes of the Radziejowa Range and the rest – in the Jaworzyna Range. That is why some mountains are within the town’s border e.g. Eliaszówka (1,023 m), Niemcowa (963 m), Granica (715 m) and Kicarz (703 m).

Relaxation in the middle of nowhere

In a remote corner of the town – Sucha Dolina, located in the upper part of the Czercz Creek, in the valley at the foot of the north-east slopes of Okrúhla (958 m), above Kosarzyska Estate and below Obidza Estate, Ski Hotel*** is situated. It has 42 rooms which can accommodate up to 95 guests. There are 1-, 2-, 3- and 4-person studio rooms and a room adjusted to guests with motor disabilities. All the rooms have a bathroom, cable TV, a phone and Wi-Fi. The hotel also offers a room of a higher standard which consists of a sleeping and daily area equipped with a fridge and a kettle. Some of the double rooms have a balcony. Wifi is available in the whole hotel. It is worth mentioning that the hotel is animal-friendly.

Relaxation for our body and mind

This delightful, almost fairy-tale scenery makes Ski Hotel*** an excellent place of relaxation for those who not only want to breathe deeply, but also aim at regeneration. An intimate spa zone gives us a chance to undergo both relaxing and regenerative treatments. Isn’t there a better place to take care of yourself than one abundant in

mineral waters? After all, the name ‘spa’ comes from Latin ‘salus per aquam’ i.e. ‘health that comes through water’. Apart from beauty treatments and massages, guests can use a jacuzzi and a sauna which have a great influence on our immune system. Such a  stay in SPA is a cherry on top after a day spent in an active day.

Natural delicacies in ‘W Mchu i Paproci’

A restaurant which offers regional dishes prepared by its chef according to traditional recipes is located on the premises of the hotel. They use solely fresh and natural products. The fact that the hotel draws water from mineral waters of Piwniczna is also an undeniable advantage. The restaurant has a rich menu which tempts with excellent lunches, exquisite dinners and delicious desserts with aromatic coffee or refreshing beverages.

The restaurant is air-conditioned and can seat up to 70 people, hence, this is a perfect spot to organise banquets, family meetings, wedding or communion receptions.

The richness of the landscape

Poprad Landscape Park is one of the oldest landscape parks in the Carpathians and, at the same time, the most beautiful and the richest in terms of visual values. Forests constitute 70% of its area – the beech, the fir, the linden and the alder are dominant species. Waters constitutes 1.25% of the park’s area and is an undeniable treasure of this region – because of them many resorts such as Piwniczna-Zdrój, Żegiestów-Zdrój, Muszyna and Krynica-Zdrój developed. The location of Ski Hotel*** in this region gives you a chance to visit either natural attractions or nearby resorts and make the most of your stay!
