He was first inspired to become a safari guide at high school where he was an active member of the wildlife and conservation club. After completing high school he studied automotive mechanics and moved to the Luangwa Valley to be a mechanic.
Salaash began his career with Asilia ten years ago as a waiter however his enthusiasm for wildlife and the bush was quickly recognized and he sped up the ranks to become one of Asilia’s leading guides.
He spent every spare moment studying towards his Safari Guide exams, joining the Luangwa Bush Camping team in 2007 as a tea bearer. Spending every day in the bush was great exposure and stimulator for Kanga as he learnt a lot. He went on to pass his Safari Guide exams first time, and at the top of the class and is now fast becoming a favorite among Robin Pope Safaris' guests because of his evident enthusiasm and love of the land.
A wonderful host and a natural linguist, Salaash is known across the world for his sense of humor and deep passion and understanding of the Maasai Mara. He truly understands his guests and will always go the extra mile to ensure the most unforgettable safari experience. In recent years, the demand for his superior knowledge of wildlife has taken him all over East Africa and the world.

With over 25 years’ experience guiding and outfitting safaris throughout East Africa, he has honed his passion for walking.
