Kanga Camp

Kitich Camp

Sand Rivers Selous

The luxurious Kanga Camp offers six large Meru-style tents all with ensuite bathrooms. Built on raised wooden decking, the main lounge and dining area overlook the Kanga Pan, one of the area’s only year-round water sources, which becomes a hub of activity for wildlife particularly during the drier months and allows for up-close encounters of a large variety of species including the larger predators.

– An authentic, small bush camp in one of Kenya’s last great stretches of wilderness

Kitich Camp specializes in walking safaris along the dense forest paths in the company of Samburu guides. Tucked under a grove of fig trees, the camp overlooks a river glade. Swim in natural rock pools in crystal-clear mountain streams before retiring to the comfort of the camp lounge to watch wildlife emerge from the forest at dusk.

Set on a wide curve of the Rufiji River in Tanzania, Sand Rivers Selous has been a well-loved location for safari buffs since the 1980s, when founder Richard Bonham discovered the lodge on one of his famous portered walking safaris. Offering only eight rooms but beautifully built, it is grand yet cozy, with open-fronted stone and thatch cottages overlooking the river, and amazing untamed beasts frequenting the shore.

Set in the Mathews Mountain Range which rises out of the desert as a chain of peaks covered in lush indigenous forest, Kitich Camp offers a unique forest-wildlife experience. The forest is home to elephant, bushbuck, buffalo, lion and leopard, as well as ancient cycads, spectacular butterflies, turacos and wild orchids.

Walking

Walk trails that humans were using long before history was recorded. Track wildlife, scale riverbanks and cross savannahs. Stepping out of your vehicle onto earth that has been trod by the very animals you hope to see, you'll enter a whole new world of discovery. Slow to an observers pace. You’ll be on high alert and look and see more. Draw on your safari guide’s deep knowledge of history to better understand the land you’re trapesing and you’ll find yourself truly immersed in Africa’s incredible landscape.

Norman Carr Safaris – Luwi Camp

– Discover Nsefu, one of the first game camps in Zambia

– Renowned for its excellent walking areas and as part of a camp-to-camp walking circuit

In the early 1950s, Nsefu Sector, set on a sweeping bend of the Luangwa River, was recognized as a phenomenal wildlife area – and it continues to provide visitors with a robust wildlife experience today.

Luwi’s four thatched bamboo chalets sit idyllically amid a shady grove of ancient trees The camp is rebuilt each season (which lasts from 20 May to 31 October) using natural materials. It has been described as one of the best little bush camps in Africa, with its open ensuite bathrooms, fine bedding and excellent food, cooked freshly on-site.

Robin Pope reopened the camp in 1999, keeping the original style. Guests enjoy the ingenious eco-friendly cooling system for beds, spacious bathrooms, and clear views of the river through large windows and a new wooden veranda. The bar, tucked in beside a huge dormant termite mound, overlooks a waterhole that attracts a wide range of wildlife, including leopards at night. Map ref: 43

Idle away hours in the nearby hide overlooking the hippo- and crocodile-filled lagoon or track the resident pride of lion over a landscape unchanged for millennia.
