Fairies Fairies also called Aneraides or Anerades. The name derives from Nereids, the seanymphes who are identified to the nymphs of the springs. They appear in caves, in springs, near wells, in rivers as well as in fields and in threshing floors. They are also divided into local and foreigners. Locals are good and protect their compatriots, while foreighners are dangerous. Beautiful fairies with long hair and white dresses are kind, although they can become dangerous. The ugly and dressed in black are always bad .Sarakatsans, believe that fairies dressed in white, live in springs ( sources ) and streams and at night one can hear their laughs. Fairies dressed in black, live in the dark areas and in the mountain ravines. Maria Filopoulou “Underwater swimmers

Vishtytis Lake
Where now there is Vishtytis Lake, there was only a tiny creek. Once a young maiden came to the creek to wash laundry. And during her washing, the sky gloomed up, the clouds began to rise. The maiden hurried up and was getting ready for going back home in order not to get wet. Later on she heard strange frizzling and uttered: -But what’s going on? Sounds like Vishtytis frizzles. After she’d said these words, she guessed the genuine Vishtytis name. In that place opened up a huge lake and swallowed up the maiden. Vishtytis lake had come. Men were riding to pasture where once large meadow used to be. One night, seven of the shepherds rode to the pasture. They carried bags off the horses, settled down, keeping an eye on their horses. And they started falling asleep. Only one heard that someone was ordering them to run and escape. The enigmatic voice said: - Men, run from here! [3]
The shepherd believed that these were just dreams. And again the voice repeated: - Run away from here! He jumped up and muttered: - Who is it telling us to run? And again there cam the voice: - Hurry! As already Vishtytis voice can be heard! Hurry! The shepherd who had heard the mystic order woke the men up. -
On the horse!
They barely managed to run and the lake flooded.

Pinios
From the top of Olympus, distinguishes over long distance a silver river, which crosses the rocks that exist on the shores of Pinios. Pinios forms route to the sea between mountains Pilio and Ossa, that is the valley of Tempi. Ossa is very famous as a place because of its natural beauty. Moreover, Ossa was the only way over which someone could pass from the North to Thessalia. The ancient people believed tha Thessalia was a huge lake. That was believed because Thessalia was protected by mountains and rocks. Also, Thessalia was overflowed by water. That was happening until Poseidon cut down rocks and waters found an outlet. Nowadays, when it rains or when blows strong eastern wind, it floods. The valley of Tempi, which is between Olympus and Ossa, is the way that Pinios flows into the sea and it is one of the most magical locations in Greece. It is small and surrounded by rocks but because of the vegetation that covers even the most rocky places all over the year is always beautiful and full of colors.

Plateliai lake Long time ago the Plateliai lake came to its place together with fish and crayfish in the form of a cloud. This cloud flew over from Darbėnai , Salantai and Notėnai. While flying, the cloud threw many fish on the ground. Due to this lots of local people were fed by these fish for a long time. By the time the lake used to be in Darbėnai village. Now where the lake used to be there is a swamp which finishes to dry out. In the place where there’s the Plateliai lake now, there used to flow a river through the middle of the ravine. At the riverside there were rich meadows fertile land, and on the other side there were high and impassable swamps. Around the place of Pilė village a town had been built. The swamps were grown around by bushes. When the lake came up, almost all of the locals appeared under its waters. Those people who had escaped built a new living place on the Plateliai shore and only the towers of old church reminded them of the vanished village.

The legend of prince Trasimeno and the nymph Agilla The legend tells the story of the nymph Agilla and Prince Trasimeno, son of the God Tyrrhenium. The first version of the legend, the saddest one, but maybe the most famous, tells that Prince Trasimeno was travelling in the centre of Italy and arrived to a big beautiful lake, surrounded by trees. It was very hot and he decided to swim in the lake.
In this lake there was a nymph called Agilla. She saw him and , since he was very handsome, she fell in love with him. She tried to lead him to the centre of the lake, singing a beautiful song so that he could follow her voice. But the Prince was dazed by her voice and he drowned. His body was never found. The lake was named Trasimeno after the prince's name.
[7]
The legend says that any time the breeze blows over the waters of the lake and rustles the leaves, it is the lament of the nymph Agilla, in search of the handsome prince.
[8]
Another version of the legend is the following: The love between the nymph and prince bloomed in one of lake Trasimeno's islands called Polvese. The story tells that one day Trasimeno got attracted from an angelic singing to island Polvese. There Trasimeno and Agilla saw each other for the first time and it was love at first sight. But destiny was against them and their happiness lasted only one day, the day in which they met and got married. The day after their marriage Trasimeno decided to have a swim in the lake and while Agilla was standing on the seashore, Trasimeno got suddenly under the water and never came back up again. His body was never found and Agilla never gave up the hope to be one day reunited to her beloved Trasimeno so she kept looking for him day after day. The grieving nymph spent every day of her life searching for her true and only love again. on a little boat Agilla would check each and every boat in the lake looking for her missing love. The fishermen say that when sailors cross the lake and sudden waves shake their boat, it is Agilla's spirit who believes to have found Trasimeno.

The Creation of the world
At first the world did not exist, only in the mist lived God, and under his feet was the water. God tired to dwell alone and he created alive object, with which he could spend happy days. It was an angel, however he started to worry, that in the mist is hard to live, that there is nowhere to stand. God commanded the angel to plunge in the water and bring some ground grains. Three times plunged the angel and brought from under the nail, from which God created plot of land. They both floated standing on land. The angel got tired of standing on the land. He asked God to expand the land, so it would be possible to sit and lie down. God expand the land, and both tried to lie down and sleep. However the angel couldn‘t sleep. He devised to push away God from land in water. But, by pushing the God in the water, ground in that side was growing. God awoke and asked why he was not sleeping. The angel reasoned, but God turned angel into the devil. LITHUANIA

Creation of the world
From the beginning, when there wasn‘t light, in the darkness flew spirit, similar to dove. This was God, which started to divide parts of the world. God dispersed mist, made path to the height, to walk everywhere. When he walked he spit in left side. Spittle has fallen on the water, where appeared human-like creature. God called him Liucin. He ordered Liucin to plunge to the Lagoon and bring him land seed. Only third time when Liucin plunged brought to God full mouth and full ears of seed. God rebuked Liucin for greed, and sowed the seeds - started to grow his land sown. Collected and translated by LITHUANIA

Acheron river A river located in Ipiros. Because of myths and tales connected with its environmental value, it attracts many tourists every year, from it’ s springs to it’ s mouths. The Acheron was known as Blackriver or Fanariotikos or Kamariotikos river. In ancient times it was believed as the river, which souls crossed , accompanied by god Hermes, to be given to Haronda and then to god Adis . According to legend, the river's water was bitter, as a big monster lived in the springs and polluted the water. The Saint Donatos, patron to the Metropolis Paramithias Thesprotias, killed that monster and the river's water became sweet again. According to another ancient legend, during the Titanic war, the Titans drank water from Acheron, which made god Dias angry. As a result he blackened and bittered the water.
