Championships. The three Darfield High School students were selected from riders throughout Canterbury at trials held in October last year and February this year. Katherine Hadler (another DHS student) was also selected as a reserve for the team. There were thirteen areas from throughout New Zealand represented at the Championships. The event consisted of three phases dressage, cross country and show jumping held over three days. The cross country course proved challenging and rain
leading up to the event meant the ground conditions were soft. However, the Canterbury riders stepped up to the challenge and won the event. The first time Canterbury have done so in ten years. It came down to a close finish with only 1.4 faults separating Canterbury from the second placed team from the West Coast. The Canterbury girls had some excellent individual results with Niamh also placing third and Charlotte fourth in the DC division (18 years and under), and Sophie seventh in the MT division (14 years and under).
