The Malvern Health and Community Welfare Trust marked its twentieth birthday on June 20th at a gathering of staff, along with past and present trustees. Founder Leith Creamer, Creamer longest serving staff member Vicki Mulholland and longest serving District Nurse Mary Roberts were each presented with bouquets. When the Darfield Medical Centre decided to discontinue the District Nursing Service in 1993 a number of locals led by Leith and the late J anice Collier organised a public meeting to address the Malvern nursing issue. 150 people attended with forty apologies. A health committee was formed to determine how future home care nursing services should be managed. The establishment committee included Selwyn District Mayor Bill Woods, Woods Rev. Ted Johnson, Johnson Helen Loe, Loe Maree Martin, Martin Ian Warren, Warren Jan Halliday and Glenda Stone. Stone The Malvern Health and Community Welfare Trust became incorporated on June 24th, 1994. The first trustees were Ian Warren (Chairman), Bill Woods, Glenda

Prue Thorne and Gwen Heffernan were the District Nurses. Vicki Mulholland was the co-ordinator. Mary Roberts replaced Gwen in

1996, and is still District Nursing. Trust activities have included, health forums and seminars, subsidising community health initiatives, piloting an aged day care centre, a scholarship for tertiary health studies and providing a $220,000 loan to enable the new Darfield Medical Centre to be built.
