St. J ohn Y outh Cadets focus on first aid, health care, leadership and general life skills. On Sunday, August 4th, over one hundred ex cited cadets from all over Canterbury descended upon Darfield Primary School to show off their skills, and compete in the Canterbury Distri cts’ S t J ohn Y outh Competition. Cadets were asked to be at the Primary school by 7: 30am , wi th the d ay concluding at 4:30pm. It was a very big day for all concerned, but it was also a very successful one. Darfield St J ohn Y outh, entered e i g h t ca d e ts i n th e competitions (one junior team of four, plus four individuals) and they all perf ormed ex tremely well. Along with the competitors were the three Darfield judges, Lynda W alter (Darfield Division Manager), Michelle Kittelty (Assistant Division Manager) and Patrick van der Pol, Pol as well as five ‘patients’, Charlotte Boyd, Ben Ellington, Charlotte Courtenay, Zoe van der Pol and Bernie Campbell. Campbell Also present was St. J ohn Malvern Chairperson, Arthur Marsh, a familiar face to many in the district, who presented the awards.

“I’m very proud of all our eight competitors, and also the patients - they all did very well. Along with having a lot of fun, every competitor came first in something,” commented Lynda! St. J ohn Darfield Y outh have been in operation for just over a year, and already they have a group of thirty four cadets (aged eight to eighteen). St J ohn Malvern Y outh cadets meet once a week during school terms and each division has their own unique The Darfield St. John Y outh Cadets with their well deserved awards.
