Yvonne wanted a place where people could come and have a wine, or a beer plus some good food, while enjoying the hot Canterbury days with a view of the Southern AIps. Easter weekend 2O1O the Ngapuarata Vines and Wines Tasting House was officially opened to the public. Unbeknown at this time was the fact that later the same year, the unforgettable September 4th earthquake would strike. The epicentre was confirmed at j us t 9O O m etr es fr o m Ngapuarata on Highfield Road, ten kilometres south of Kirwee, where the faultline opened up, and moved the road. This significant event saw the tasting house renamed ‘Quake Shaken Café’ - a name that initiates many a conversation over a vino. Quake Shaken Café is a beautiful place to relax, enjoy the views and sample the delicious wines, while enjoying some of the great food on offer.
