Leaping whales, soaring seabirds and engaging sea otters are coming to live television on two continents. In an unprecedented collaboration, PBS and BBC present Big Blue Live — a multiplatform event featuring the majestic marine life of Monterey Bay. Anchored from open-air studios at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and aboard National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration research ships on the bay, scientists, filmmakers and photographers, animal behaviorists, and other experts will come together to document the extraordinary rejuvenation of the once-endangered and now thriving ecosystem of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Some of the world’s most charismatic marine creatures — humpback whales, blue whales, sea lions, dolphins, elephant seals, sea otters, great white sharks, shearwaters and brown pelicans — convene in a once-a-year confluence of fins, fur and fangs. Watch one of nature’s great reality shows delivered through state-of-theart filming technologies and live reports from air, sea and below the waves. Big Blue Live airs on KQED over three nights, August 31 through September 2.
