This summer, KQED’s Women to Watch series goes into the studios, hearts and minds of 20 local artists, creatives and makers who are pushing boundaries in 2017. Driven by passion for their own disciplines, from music to podcasting to comedy and multiple mediums in between, these women are true vanguards, paving the way in their communities. The Women to Watch website is bursting with photo galleries, videos and interviews with each of the women. Here, meet three female pioneers taking the creative world by storm: Zahra Noorbaksh uses humor, satire and personal stories to share her contemporary Muslim American

experience with us. She is co-host of the podcast #GoodMuslimBadMuslim and the comedian behind the shows All Atheists Are Muslim and Hijab and Hammer Pants. She was recently named one of Yerba Buena Center for the Arts’ 100 people shaping the future of culture. Kelley Coyne combines her talent for recording, mixing and playing music with her passion for working with women artists and mentoring the next generation of women audio engineers at Women’s Audio Mission, the only professional recording studio in the world built and run entirely by women. Her focus on women’s empowerment and workplace equality creates a safe space for all artists to pursue their craft.

Magik*Magik is the secret identity of Minna Choi, the Berkeley-born daughter of Korean immigrants who founded the Magik*Magik Orchestra about nine years ago. As conductor of the orchestra, she has collaborated with artists ranging from Death Cab for Cutie to Weezer. She recently released her first album in her own right, which slides across a spectrum of moods and sounds, from somber and slow to cinematic melancholy. KQED.org/womentowatch
