New Magazine Coming in July You watch KTEH. You watch KQED. You wish you could find program schedules for both channels in one place. Soon you can. Beginning in July, Preview will be replaced by a new member publication. On Q will include daily schedules for both KTEH and KQED as well as for KQED Public Radio 88.5 FM.

Our programming strategy has created more diversity and less overlap between the two television stations. We have something for everyone—quality public television on two different channels. Watch for On Q in your mailbox and enjoy.

The 2010 Annual Report proudly showcases examples of KQED’s high-quality work on radio and television and online as well as with educators and the community at large. Explore our year in review at kqed.org/about.

Your Option to Opt Out To further increase support for KTEH, we may exchange your name with other nonprofit organizations in order to grow our membership base. If you do not wish to have your name rented or exchanged and have not requested the opt-out option in the

past, please contact Member Services at 408.795.5411 or email member@kteh.org. We will update your account information to ensure that you are excluded from list rentals and exchanges. Thank you for your continued support.

Foyled Again

Fridays at 9pm on KTEH.

One of Mystery’s most acclaimed detective series, Foyle’s War stars Michael Kitchen (pictured above, middle) as the no-nonsense Detective Chief Superintendent Christopher Foyle, the straightforward sleuth who fights his own battles on the home front, on the south coast of England, while war rages across Europe in 1941. In Series IV (which originally aired in 2007), Foyle and his team tackle a brutal death on an American Army base, uncovering secret government research after a biological warfare experiment goes awry, investigating the murder of Sergeant Milner’s estranged wife, and probing the clandestine world of weapons development. You’ll find more information (including plot spoilers, if you’re so inclined) at pbs.org/wgbh/mystery/foyleswar. Who Is Christopher Foyle? Foyle is a steadfast, serious man who rose through the ranks of the police force to become a respected detective chief superintendent. A widower who lost his wife to typhoid, Foyle possesses a quietly enigmatic and introspective nature that can sometimes verge on melancholy. But the often taciturn demeanor doesn’t displace a profoundly ethical disposition, and his ability for intense focus and dedication is key to his brilliance when cracking complex mysteries. Since the death of his wife, Foyle has become

somewhat solitary; his son, Andrew, is the most important thing in his life. As an added personality quirk, Foyle doesn’t drive, and so he’s assigned a spirited young sidekick, Samantha Stewart. Bright, cheerful, and intelligent, Sam is deeply loyal to her boss though never completely in awe of him. She longs to play a bigger part in the investigations, and isn‘t afraid to offer her opinions. She’s also become romantically involved with Foyle’s son, but keeps it a secret from her boss.

June 2011

High-Flying Adventures In June, This is Us visits Moffett Field to learn the history of the military base and its most famous resident, the USS Macon, which was lost in the Monterey Bay in 1935. The Macon and her sister, the Akron, still hold the world record for largest helium-filled airships. You’ll also meet three local aviation heroes. Danville resident Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger recounts the day when, just six minutes after takeoff, he was forced to make the decision to ditch his aircraft in the Hudson River with 155 passengers onboard, and how those events have

forever changed his life and the lives of everyone who was on the plane. Also, spend some time with Barbara London, an heroic pilot from Los Gatos, Congressional Gold Medal recipient, member of the WASPs, and the only woman to be awarded the Air Medal during Word War II, and Les Williams, a Tuskegee Airman and one of the first black Americans to become a bomber pilot.
