Grantchester, Season 9, Culminates in a Riveting Finale PAGE 3

Community Programming, Produced by KQED

This month, we’re excited to shine a light on the diverse, educational and community-building programming that KQED produces for our valued viewers. Did you know that we broadcast one of our KQED Live events every month? If you can’t attend every in-person gathering, you can still tune in and enjoy a monthly broadcast from the comfort of your home. For August, we’re sharing Fierce Funny Filipinx on Friday, August 16, at 8pm on KQED 9 Curated by Nikki Meñez and the team from Balay Kreative (a home for Filipinx artists), this event will celebrate art as resilience through music and comedy. And, if you’d like to experience more of this creative troupe, stop by KQED headquarters to view their art exhibition.

Then, stay tuned for more back-to-back episodes of Check, Please! Bay Area airing Monday, August 26, through Thursday, August 29, at 7:30pm on KQED 9. If you’re already a fan of the popular local dining series, you know you can expect a sumptuous summary of Bay Area cuisines served up in every episode.

This month, viewers are treated to Taiwanese flavors at San Francisco’s Piglet & Co., Turkish delights at Emeryville’s Simurgh Bakery & Cafe and Swiss-French fare at Santa Rosa’s La Gare. Join producer Cecilia Phillips to learn about all the Bay Area food scene has to offer. We look forward to bringing you more highquality, original KQED-produced programming all year long.

Moments in Time: 70 Years at KQED

KQED public media has been informing, inspiring and involving the San Francisco Bay Area for 70 years. To celebrate our anniversary this year, we’re revisiting memorable moments from the past.

Forum, KQED’s flagship live call-in radio show, premiered in 1988, bringing people together to discuss local, state, national and world issues. The show also offers in-depth interviews with leading figures. Former longtime host Michael Krasny joined the program in 1993, and Mina Kim and Alexis Madrigal took on co-hosting roles in 2020 and 2021, respectively. Today, it is also distributed nationally on Sirius XM and on a handful of stations across the state.

Season 9 Finale of Grantchester on MASTERPIECE

Shocking discoveries are coming to light on Grantchester. After seven rollercoaster episodes, the crime drama will treat viewers to a thrilling Season 9 finale on Sunday, August 4, at 9pm on KQED 9. It’s been an eventful season so far: DI Geordie has teamed up with new vicar, Alphy, to solve the ever-increasing number of local murders, while Alphy’s unexpected arrival has forced some residents to reflect on their own implicit bias. This season also journeyed into new territory as the characters began to explore topics such as gender politics in the workplace and the meaning of faith in the community. Filled with charming, romantic storylines as well as puzzling new crimes (including a mystifying disappearance and an abandoned baby), the season positions us for a finale that is bound to be as dramatic as it is delightful. As an avid murder-mystery enthusiast myself, I’m dazzled by this long-running series that so masterfully combines thoughtful storytelling with fun, deductive crime-solving. It’s no mystery why Grantchester continues to be a hit after nearly a decade.

But soon enough, she’s pulled into a new mystery that requires the guidance of fictional detective Atticus Pünd.
