Changes to KQED Public Radio Programming For many of us, the pandemic has fundamentally changed our work lives and daily routines. This extends to how our radio audiences listen to KQED. Long drives have been replaced by work-from-home arrangements, hybrid workplaces and staggered schedules. KQED has changed its radio schedule lineup to ensure you hear the programming you enjoy at the times most convenient for your listening needs and evolving schedules. You can see the specific changes, highlighted in pink, on the page 4 grid. One key change: On weekday evenings, Forum moves from 10pm to 8pm, providing listeners with two opportunities to hear cohosts Alexis Madrigal and Mina Kim engage with guests and callers about the topics most pertinent to people in the Bay Area and California before most of us go to bed. The evening expansion of Forum means moving our current block of weekday programming from 8pm to 10pm, as you’ll see on page 4. On Saturday evenings, the TED Radio Hour will enter the lineup at 10pm. We’ll round out the night with a news refresh from the BBC World Service at 11pm so you can hear it every night at the same time. There are changes on Sunday, too, in both our afternoon and evening programming. Though we expect the changes will positively affect the vast majority of our radio listeners, we also recognize it may inconvenience some. We apologize to those listeners and welcome your comments and feedback at fm@kqed.org. Ernesto Aguilar Director of Radio Programming

PODCASTS

What are the best podcasts to listen to right now? We asked Maria Esquinca, Producer of KQED's The Bay podcast.

STARTER EPISODE

“We All Come from Water: Poetry from the Edge”

Hosted by Pendarvis Harshaw and produced by Marisol Medina-Cadena, Rightnowish is an arts and culture podcast. Topics span from press-on nails to roller skating to parenting. In this episode, Pendarvis speaks to poet Terisa Siagatonu. She talks about climate change, how she values herself as an artist and the intersection of her Samoan and American identity.

STARTER EPISODE

“America Has a Drinking Problem”

From The Atlantic magazine, The Experiment is a show about people navigating our country’s contradictions. Reporters and editors from the magazine are featured in the show. This episode traces America’s drinking problem back to Plymouth Rock, where the Mayflower landed because the ship was running low on beer.

STARTER EPISODE

“The Race to Save Melissa Lucio”

Hosted by Maria Hinojosa, Latino USA is a nationally syndicated show. Melissa Elizabeth Lucio was the first Latina to be put on death row in Texas and was slated to be executed before the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals halted her execution. The episode chronicles elements of her case that Melissa's defenders argue led to a wrongful conviction and a coerced confession.

Don’t Miss This! Fellow programmer Meredith recommended Endeavour to me as one of her favorite shows of all time, and it definitely lives up to the hype. Watching Endeavour is intoxicating — it’s criminally easy to get swept up in its moody retro atmosphere and twisting mysteries. Detective Morse returns for an eighth season of this beloved series after the tragic finale of season seven. While battling his inner demons, Morse, along with his partner, Detective Thursday, investigates murders and threats plaguing the residents of Oxford, as well as a final case that puts one of their own in imminent danger. Passport members can binge the whole new season of Endeavour on June 19, the night of its broadcast premiere. — Emma Casley, KQED TV Programming Associate

As an avid spectator of culinary television shows, I was very excited when I learned that KQED was bringing a new cooking series, The Great American Recipe, to our viewers. The judges — Leah Cohen, Tiffany Derry and Graham Elliot — jump-started their careers on Top Chef Season 5, Top Chef Season 7 and Iron Chef America, respectively, and bring their professional insights and deep culinary knowledge to encourage and support the contestants. Hosted by Today show Food and Lifestyle Contributor Alejandra Ramos, the series blends food, family and fun, highlighting the amazing variety of tastes and traditions found across the United States while capturing the roots of America’s diverse cuisine. From family favorites passed down through generations to internationally influenced recipes that are quickly becoming mainstays of American cuisine, the series gives talented home cooks from different
