Hey Swifter! SO A LOT HAS HAPPENED since we last had a Konversation… pray do tell, how are you? I genuinely hope that you and your family are well and safe. I understand that home means different things to different people and that, while it may be a safe haven for most, it can be quite toxic for a lot of people. This month, we aim to bring you lots of light, love, laughter and a few lessons. Keeping in mind that this is Easter season, we also take a moment to remember the sacrifice of Christ and the promises attached to it for ourselves, our loved ones and our respective nations. As you read this issue, I pray that you will be reminded that God so loved YOU that He gave His Son for you to have eternal life filled with endless hope and peace beyond understanding.

OKAY, SO LET’S TALK ABOUT… THE LOCKDOWN!

WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE! Remember when you said you needed a vacation? Listen, the whole world is on vacation right now. While the reason for the season is rather devastating, there is a lot we can take and learn from this time. One thing I want us to zoom in on is the opportunity we have to reflect and refocus. Now, we don’t really know what lies ahead, life may be so different that we need to readjust to a new normal or we may just go back to business as usual as if nothing happened. We can plan as far and as much as we can with the little that we know, but we cannot know for sure if our plans will come to fruition. What we can do though is take inventory of where we are and what we have. What are the most important things to you in life? In the rush of your normal life, what could you not get to that you can do now? Which relationships would you like to mend or nurture in this period?

Couple’s Prayer TELL US ABOUT HOW YOU MET, HOW YOUR RELATIONSHIP EVOLVED AND DESCRIBE THE MOMENT IN WHICH GERSHAM POPPED THE QUESTION? We met in 2016 at a youth service sometime in March. Gersham was the programme director that night. When he asked the newcomers to stand and introduce themselves, we had our very first dialogue. We became friends after he bribed his sister for my number (Lol). We developed a major bond which we had never experienced with anyone else before, we became BEST friends. By the time Gersham proposed to me we had already

(and still are) madly in love.

WHAT WERE SOME OF THE MOST INTERESTING THINGS YOU GUYS LEARNED ABOUT EACH OTHER WHILST BEING ENGAGED? During our almost 2 year-long engagement, a few important things stood out and still does stand out: trusting one another, communication is key, be spontaneous and unpredictable but in a good way, don't be too comfortable with what you already know and have....

DESCRIBE SOME OF THE UPS AND DOWNS THAT COME WITH PLANNING A WEDDING Downs: I think everyone starts planning their wedding from scratch and that's the challenging part but to mention a few things: finding a suitable venue, decor and design and amount of guest were the most challenging because we had no wedding planner. And we're not party people so we've never planned anything like this before. Ups: The complete opposite of the above mentioned of course. When things fell into place such as wedding hiring, food and decor were booked and secured we couldn't wait for the day to arrive. Another huge up moment for us was having people come alongside us to help pay for some of the things in our wedding, we haven't reached out to them about anything so we know that that was absolutely the hand of God. I loved that we could be a team and take on this challenge together, the way we stood together about certain things regarding the wedding was amazing.

MY VOWS DISPLAY THE TYPE OF WIFE I WANT TO BE TO HIM, THE TYPE OF MARRIAGE I WANT TO MAINTAIN WITH HIM AND A REMINDER OF HOW PROUD I AM OF HIM AND HOW MUCH I LOVE HIM.

WHAT DID YOU HAVE IN MIND WHEN DECIDING ON A VENUE?

We had about 10 venues on paper, we narrowed it down to 3 and went to view them. Blue Emerald Villa in Camps Bay far exceeded our expectations. It hosts beautiful scenery, sea-view balcony (outdoor kinda feel), a spacious yet intimate setting. We decided to go with a guesthouse because it's more intimate than a hall/wedding venue. And the fact that we could stay over with our family was a bonus. We don't like following the masses or overrated trends, so choosing a venue that not many people would opt for as a wedding chapel meant choosing this guesthouse and it worked out so extraordinarily.

To me (Gersham), mixed emotions. More nervous and stressed because you just want everything to run as smoothly as planned, but on the day of the wedding as the clock was ticking I was emotional and so honoured to arrive at such a milestone in my life. I (Tamrin) had no emotions at all. This sounds crazy but I was numb, and I think it's because I was planning this wedding with Gersham so I knew exactly what was going to happen, how everything will look, etc. And I just wanted everything to go smoothly. But by the time the guests arrived and I was about to walk down the aisle, it became real to me. Then only the nerves kicked in, I WAS GETTING MARRIED!

GERSHAM, DESCRIBE THE MOMENT YOU SAW TAMRIN WALKING DOWN THE AISLE? Wow! I had like a thousand butterflies tickling on the inside...it was special, I was so happy, expectant, nervous...it felt as good as the first time I saw and met Tamrin! It was that good!

TAMRIN, HOW DID YOU FEEL DURING THE MOMENT YOUR FATHER GAVE YOU AWAY AT THE ALTAR? I felt a bit sad because he gave his daughter away. But I was happy because he gave me to the man I loved. I was ready to marry Gersham and become his lawfully wedded wife. [See picture on page 16]

THE VOWS

Tamrin: I wanted it to be so authentic and show off my personality in every way. I definitely didn't want it to be stiff. Serious but not stiff. And therefore I had to add a bit of laughter because that's how my relationship has always been with Gersham. We can be serious and deep, but also make sure there's always laughter in between. My vows display the type of wife I want to be to him, the type of marriage I want to maintain with him and a reminder of how proud I am of him and how much I love him.

P R E - M A R I TA L C O U N S E L L I N G Premarital counselling is not about receiving any advice. It's a journey you go on with the counsellor to see how much you understand about marriage and if you are ready to go into it together. We dug a bit deeper into each other's past and learnt that it has shaped us into the people we are today. Going into marriage, we have a few habits that we have picked up while growing up. Together we will face them and deal with the good and the bad.

WE DEVELOPED A MAJOR BOND, WHICH WE HAD NEVER EXPERIENCED WITH ANYONE ELSE BEFORE. WE BECAME BEST FRIENDS.

WHEN GERSHAM KISSED HIS BRIDE FOR THE FIRST TIME:

“It's a special moment that cannot be explained only experienced.”

WHICH BIBLE VERSE COMES TO MIND WHEN YOU THINK OF YOUR WIFE/HUSBAND? Gersham: I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. - Psalms 139:14 Tamrin: He who finds a wife finds a good thing (Lol, kidding), that's the second verse that comes to mind. But honestly "husbands, love your wives as Christ love the church" - I know it doesn't have to be related to marriage but Gersham LOVES me. He was always very intentional about showing it off in his actions. He doesn't talk and not perform. And I love that because he really honours me as a daughter of Zion, he respects me, he uplifts me, he encourages me and he even looks up to me. He listens, he supports and he understands me very well.

THE COUPLE’S FAVOURITE PART OF THEIR BIG DAY The ceremony was DEFINITELY the best best best part for us and going off to take our couple's shoot. Also seeing each and every one of our guests present to witness our marriage was so phenomenal.

When truth meets grace, purity reveals the origin of beauty. Congratulations, G&T. May the love and sovereignty of God continue to reign and thrive within your blessed union. - LOVE, MARK ZION

MÉGAN DEFINES HERSELF AS THE REALISED DREAM IN GOD’S HEART… the will of God fulfilled in human form. You may know this Mitchell’s Plain born and bred PK as the voice behind the radio when driving to work in the morning. Well… Breakfast with Friends is officially one friend less since, if you are a loyal CCFm listener you will already know that, Mégan is no longer part of the CCFm team.

kréhon SWIFT

But that does not mean that she is no longer a part of the family. KAY-DEE had a brief chat with her to ask all the questions we’ve all been burning to ask her. Like, why would you leave us?? Where are you going?? Can’t you stay?? Thankfully, she didn’t mind being interrogated and rather had so much insight to give! Here is Kay-Dee’s exit interview with former CCFM Presenter, Mégan Schilder.

18

issuu.com/krehon

LET’S START WITH THE WHY… While it was quite interesting how I ended up on CCFM, my why always remained the same. I had done a lot of television presenting in my

RIGHT NOW THE FIRST STEP IS TO SAY YES AND KEEP IN STEP WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT AS HE CONTINUES TO LEAD ME STEP BY STEP

childhood but had not really thought of being on radio. But each time I prayed during my post-varsity transition, God showed me the CCFM building. And as I continued to pray on where God would have me be, I kept on seeing CCFM. So I went to CCFM to offer myself to

Above: Mégan with Rouchelle Liedemann and fellow CCFM presenter Jonathan Haller

serve as an intern or whatever else God would have me do there. A few months later, they had an opening for a presenter. And the rest is history… ultimately, I went to CCFM in obedience to God, to follow His purpose and will for my life. It is that very same will that saw me grow and evolve throughout my experience there. The same will that now permits me to move on to the next thing that God will have me do. This transition, for me, is a faith move. I am merely stepping, by faith and in obedience, into a season of saying yes to God. I believe that I am being called into a season of serving my community more and using my other gifts and networks to do so. Right now the first step is to say yes and keep in step with the Holy Spirit as He continues to lead me step by step into what God would have me do at every single step of the way.

APRIL 2020

HOW DO YOU KNOW FOR SURE THAT IT IS TIME TO MOVE? Well, for sure is quite a difficult thing to define in our human capacity. You can never say that you know for sure… but you definitely need to do due diligence. Seek counsel from trustworthy sources, men and women who have a relationship with God, and seek God for yourself. Allow the peace of God to lead you; do not follow your own feelings and emotions. Trust God. If you are uncertain, do the last thing God told you to do until He tells you otherwise. When the time is right, and you’ve covered all your bases, you will know… God’s peace and freedom will be your guide.

Above: with Berni Dymet from Christianity Works

TELL US ONE LESSON, ONE ADVANTAGE AND ONE DISADVANTAGE OF BEING ON RADIO Advantage: You learn a lot and you grow! You see the goodness of God and, because CCFM is a faith-based station, you also realise the privilege that salvation really is… I have evolved and grown so much, even in my personality, during my time at CCFM. That definitely has to be the greatest among the many advantages that include meeting new people, socialising with people I could have never met outside of work, learning new things and getting to know people’s stories. Disadvantage: As I mentioned my personality, I am quite an introvert so it sometimes is hard to get outside of myself to fully engage with people I don’t know… sometimes on topics that I don’t really find interesting. But I can definitely say that it is during those times that I learned and grew the

most. Each time I stretched myself, I literally grew my capacity to handle these kinds of situations.

ALLOW THE PEACE OF GOD TO LEAD YOU; DO NOT FOLLOW YOUR OWN FEELINGS AND EMOTIONS. TRUST GOD.

Lesson: Value time! Radio has taught me that you need to wake up when your alarm rings (LOL) and just value time in general. While waking up at

Left: Here with ACDP MP Steve Swart

4am was very challenging at times, the moments I would get to spend with God on my way to work were some of the best parts of my day. It would just help me centre my mind and heart so that when I get to the studio, I am ready to serve God in whatever capacity I get to in that day. Even beyond that, I learned to celebrate the victories of each day as

Left: with Studio Guests, Melanie & Jamie

they come. I have come to the realisation that life is a slow, steady journey. One without a clear finish line where you can quickly run to and have everyone cheer you on and applaud you. But each day is its own journey with its own victories to be embraced and celebrated. However small they may seem to be in the moment.

ADVICE TO ASPIRING PRESENTERS AND CREATIVES… First and foremost, do thorough research and ask yourself why you want to do it. Your why is going to set you up to Below: Mégan + Debbie & Garry Kirsten + Jonathan

either make it big or fail dismally. You must also make sure that you do the necessary research to find out what you are really getting yourself into. If you really have a heart for people, maybe you want to make a difference in the world, then you can consider radio. Once you have made the decision, you need to be authentic and be open to criticism. Know who you are outside of the work you do and do your best not to allow the criticism to define you. You can’t always do this by yourself, so you need to find mentors who will help you build your career through those seemingly negative comments that you receive and help you evolve in your craft. It is important to learn, even before you start, that it is not about you and it doesn’t always revolve around you. Especially if you are on a platform like CCFM where the mandate is clearly greater than all the vessels carrying it out.

RADICAL RELEVANCE THE CROSS IN 2020

Radical Relevance WHAT DOES THE CROSS MEAN TO YOU IN 2020?

Giovanni coetzee code: 446263

EVEN IN THE MIDST OF A PANDEMIC, we are unmoved and unshaken, if God saved me from my sin, surely He can save me from a virus. And even if my time has come, I look forward to eternity with Him, an eternity He paid the ultimate price for me to have. So with all I have, and all that is within me I will bless Him and surrender my life as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to the One who gave me life eternal. In response to the cross, and with my mind set on what 2020 holds, one word defines what the cross means to me, Humility. I want to humble myself, put God first and serve His church, serve my community, and lay my life down for His purpose to prevail. Amen. "In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:5-11 NIV

WHAT A SEASON TO BE ALIVE! The Corona virus coming to rob lives and leaving families in despair. On another hand, the economy's status is uncertain of its recovery. As believers, this is a call to going back to the focus who is Christ and make Him our ultimate goal. The harvest is ripe and we have been commissioned to go in the world and make disciples. Seeking the Kingdom also means being selfless, it means harvesting lost souls. May all that's happening around us not shift our focus from the prize. It's not a coincidence that all this chaos is arising in the Easter season, it's a call for the church to awaken and step out. It's a call for our focus to go back to THE WHY (death, burial and Resurrection). On the cross, Jesus mentioned this powerful word 'tetelestai' which means dealt with 100% or paid in full. The cross brought freedom in every area of our lives, He paid for our health, finances, provision and every other thing that concerns us. Above all, the cross proves the Love (agape) God has for us. Love is a doing word and so He acted on what He had been saying. The cross is the greatest strategy of showing how much we are valued by the Father. May you and I be open to the new strategies our Father has in order for us to penetrate earth with the good news. May we be sensitive to the birthing curiosity of those who have distorted views of Him on social media. Now is the time to reflect the One who is more powerful than other seemingly powerful force. Magnify Christ only and everything else becomes dull. How can you add value in this season to your sphere of influence. You and I are the church, the hades of hell cannot prevail against us. Let Christ only be viral and infectious.

UNFATHOMABLE MERCY AND INDESCRIBABLE LOVE!!! Words fail me when I think of the purity and goodness of God, when he saw me and thought I am worthy even when I feel most unworthy. It is a love I cannot fathom. Even today, the blood and water which gushed forth from the heart of Jesus is immensely precious, it is healing to my broken heart and the strength that enables me to love my enemies. It is still the blood that gives me the assurance that performance is not needed at His throne of humility, which in turn eliminates my insecurities in a competing world. Through His blood we have life in abundance, not only physical life but eternal life. Jesus Christ presented the father in His fullness and as a result of His sacrifice, we are redeemed. THE ONLY WAY WE CAN MAKE SENSE of Coronavirus and any calamity that we face is by looking at it through the cross. Jesus went to the root cause of every evil the world has ever known and will still experience - our sin - bearing the full penalty of God’s wrath that we deserve. Any trials and tribulations we will have to go through in this world are a mere pin prick compared to the reality of being separated from God for eternity. Not only do you have a sure hope of being with God forever after you die or Jesus returns, but your identity while you go through this world is radically different. The cross means that you have been set free from every sin you were once enslaved to which defined who you are as one belonging to the Kingdom of darkness. But the Great Accuser - the devil - has been silenced. The blood of Jesus speaks a better word. And you who were once an enemy of God are now called His child.

THE CROSS IS AN INSTRUMENT OF DEATH THAT BRINGS LIFE. Once the cruellest form of execution - yet now is a symbol of abundant life. The cross is more than the near-universal symbol of Christianity. This simple design carries the message of love, finality, hope, prophecy, fulfilled promises, wilful humanity and purpose. The cross represents the culmination of prophecy dating back to the Garden of Eden. The cross exemplifies the greatest sacrifice ever made and gives assurance of salvation through the gospel of Jesus Christ.

This would usually end in another 3-4 hour worship and prayer session with friends. These meetings were where we grew the most and learnt from our peers what love and community in Christ was. 3 months into our friendship our interest in one another began to grow, the Lord took two people with polar opposite personalities and created a perfect match! TOO FREE TO BE BOUND BY SIN A MESSAGE BY PASTOR MARCEL RWASABISI

SCRIPTURES: Galatians 5:1 - It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. SAVED THROUGH WORKS

Romans 6:20-23 I am using an example from everyday life because of your human limitations. Just as you used to offer yourselves as slaves to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer yourselves as slaves to righteousness leading to holiness. When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death! But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

J

esus was born and lived under the law, He says in the Word that He didn't come to remove it but rather to fulfil it. When He became sin, He was in conflict with

the law so that grace could be validated. He created a new gateway for all those who BELIEVE in Him. Under the law, even those who were seen as righteous could not receive the Holy Spirit. He came upon them and then left them again. In the new testament, the Holy Spirit lives within us. Moreover, in the old testament, the laws of God were written on the walls of the temple and on tablets of stone. In the new testament, the Word of God is written on the hearts of man. In the old testament, people could be saved through works. They had to do what was good for them to be accepted into the presence of the Lord. In the new testament, people can only be saved through the Work of Christ on the cross. He is the mediator between us and God, our gateway to the Holy of Holies. We are saved by grace, which is a gift of God that we receive through Christ Jesus.

esus doesn't have a problem with people who sin. He does, however, have a problem with people who fail to believe in Him. Because, no matter how good you are, if you don't believe in Him then you cannot receive Him or His gift of salvation and forgiveness of sin without which you cannot change. Or be saved. Do you believe in Jesus so that you

can go to heaven or so that you can maintain the gift of life you've been given? If we would go to heaven because of works, most (if not all) of us would not make it. But our faith needs to go beyond wanting to go to heaven but rather to let His Kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven. Your greatest mistake is wanting to fix yourself before accepting Jesus when Jesus is the only one who can fix you. Jesus didn't just want to cover our sins, He died so that they could be washed away for good. The blood of

P

eople make at the mistake of looking at your past to qualify you. Little do they know, between you and them, there is Jesus. And at any moment, He can change your story. We need to separate the

Gospel of Christ from religion and tell people the truth so that they can liberated into relationship with God. It is when we strive for relationship that we begin to become better and live to please our First Love (Jesus Christ). Grace is not an excuse to keep on sinning, it is payment for our sins that allows us to grow in pursuit of righteousness - with a God who is able to make our crooked paths straight. Knowing and loving God does not prevent you from making mistakes. But God, as our Father, loves us anyway... Nothing can separate us from His love. May we strive to grow closer to Him and follow hard after Him. Because it is only in Him, that we are made whole and holy. It is in the truth of His love that we are too free to sin. And as we continue to love Him, we make less mistakes and we make them less often. It's a daily exercise, yet it is a journey that is worth taking.

The buildings were big

 Mile by mile

a poem by MARK ZION

I am still, it is finished

I am loved, it is settled

Things stop for a bit
 The world slowed its roll
The virus had certainly taken its toll But what they then saw
 From slowing things down
They now had less reason to frown

But sick they become
 And numbers, it grew
 Businesses worried
 Communities too

I’ll never deny Who He is His resurrection calls me winner Echoes hope to every sinner Redeemed by just the gaze of grace

Families now gathered
 'What games shall we play?'
 'Pass me the blue crayon'
 'Give mummy the grey.'

I let go of my frustrations In this world of contradictions Jesus makes it easy to love

'Daddy is home guys! He'll read us a book.'
 Then all of us together
 We might just cook

In His light, there’s opportunity To see beyond figures of complexity Revel in His relevance eternally
Now we know there’s more to live for

The lungs of the planet
 Caught a small break
Less travel meant less pollution to make

But first the Kingdom’s what we seek for To live is Christ, to die is gain

People did realise that it will be okay
They don't need so much to get through the day

Every son, every daughter can walk on the water

and never, never be afraid

Maybe this virus that caused so much stress
Showed the whole world that more can mean less.

15 MINUTES - KAREN KINGSBURY Review by Hugh O’Ryan

BOOK REVIEW

KAREN KINGSBURY is a well sought after name in Christian Fiction, and she does not disappoint with 15 Minutes. I would warn more mature Christians that this book is set more for the young adult or teen Christian who is finding their feet in this haphazard World. I feel Kingsbury has done a great job at emphasising God's hand in every circumstance.

Zack is a country boy at heart, with his parents ranch nearing foreclosure he decides to participate in one of America's most prestigious talent shows "15 Minutes". eeing as it is the first Easter in a new decade, I cannot help but wonder how Jesus would react if He lived in this day and age. Let me disclaim before we go any further that this piece is going to be very educational, somewhat fictional and hopefully FUNNY. I pray that the Lord forgives me if any of the following content offends any of His beloved children. With that said I think that, with all due respect and reverence to my King and Saviour, Jesus can probably take a joke. Loosen up and humour me for a second, imagine if Jesus was born in 1986 and the first Easter celebration had to happen in 2020. Listen, it’s about to get real!

Okay, now God is born to a poor young couple… So a whole Son of God is born you guys, and the parents can’t find anywhere to put Him. Well, so I can’t really say that they are poor, let me tell you the actual story. So what had happened was that this king heard that The King would be born and thought, well… the only way to prevent the whole thing would be to kill all the sons that were being born during that time. Drastic much?! But yo, dude was just trying to keep his name and legacy. Imagine being dethroned?! People can barely handle having a girlfriend leaving them for another guy (oops, let’s come back). Then she’s like, “In that came then, I am surrendered to God so let it be done to me according to His will”. Then boom, long story short, Sis is baking a bun in the oven and Brother Joseph (AKA Bhut’Bae) hears that Sis is preggies and he’s like okay, I’ma just ghost her and save her the embarrassment of a break up. that He was misleading the masses… because what He said was contrary to the Jewish belief system. Anyway, they beat Him up and humiliate Him. As if that’s not bad enough, they make Him carry His own cross up the mountain. They then take proper nails and hammer Him onto a wooden cross. He is alive this whole time mind you. He felt each and every punch, each lash, each instalment on the hammer. He felt everything! He felt the pain of it all… He felt it so much that He felt like God had forsaken Him… and He WAS God! He basically felt like He wasn’t Himself. Yet He endured. They went on and nailed His feet on top of each other, all the way through the wood. ALIVE! Then they lifted up the cross, and left Him to bleed… Arms stretched wide, in dire pain. He felt it you guys… He stood there, and all He said was, “Father, forgive them for they don’t know what they’re doing”. He gave up His Spirit and breathed His last breath. And then… ESKOM! Like, the whole world went blank for a whole minute. Why would He die though? Well, so that we could live… He made a way for all of us to have eternal life. And then He rose again, on the third day, as the light of the world so that we would have eternal hope in and through Him.

Jesus today… I wonder what Jesus would have to say about The Rona… imagine if He had ascended to heaven just last year. Would we have more faith? Would we have a better idea of what it is He’d have us do in moments like these? Would the church be more united? Would we be more considerate and compassionate towards each other? If Jesus was your neighbour, what would He say about your relationship with God? Perhaps this is a time for us to reflect, truly reconnect with God and do better as a church. If His sacrifice was fresh in our memories, what would we do differently? Perhaps we should rather start doing that... Selah!

D

on’t eat all the apples, the Doctors are already away! Listen! Do you know how much food you can consume in just one day of sitting at home?! Now, consider that there is you multiplied by the number of people in the house with you. We all need to be considerate in our eating patterns. Especially since you’ve spent your retirement on wiping out the toilet paper isle. It will get ugly too quickly if everyone keeps on “living life as normal” when life clearly isn’t normal. Can I also just say that life must continue after the 21 days? Don’t sell your house Aunty, Jesus has not sent a “Save the Date” for His return yet. Hunger will still be there when The Rona is a goner!

C

plea. Or rather an announcement. Yes, here is: Kay-Dee’s Public Service Announcement: There is absolutely nothing to gain from doing what you know annoys the people around you. Okay, that’s rude. Let’s try a more Christian approach… Please try to be a decent person. Flush the toilet (shhh, don’t tell the other Capetonians, let’s all pretend together). Okay, something more environmentally friendly, clean the bathroom after taking a bath/shower (we’ll get to the cleaning part later though, this is one is near and dear to my heart). Let us just try to be decent people in these trying times. We cannot also be trying each other on top of everything that’s happening. So, just a reminder, please close your mouth when you chew…

Being at home comes with too many reasons for you to get deep into your feels, don’t! If you don’t want these 21 days to feel like a lifetime, don’t allow everything to get to you. If you are easily offended by nature, let this be a bootcamp to train you on the art of not catching feelings. But how do you even begin to not get mad, Kuz? I’m glad you asked, just remember that everything is not about you. Not even what people say about you is about you. If you really cannot can, walk away. It is more important to be kind than it is to be right.

ive at peace with all people, as far as it is up to you. You know what neh, you can be chewing with your mouth closed, cleaning up after yourself (hint hint) and just trying your best not to finally break the last nerve your Mom has been warning about all these years. You could legit be like Elijah chilling at the brook after announcing the flood (read the whole Bible, you’ll find it) you know… socially distancing and all. Trying your best not to catch feelings. And theeeeeeen, uit die blou van onse hemel, someone comes and TRICE you (bona, this is beyond trying). You know what Sis? Bro? Sit with your family and talk about nothing in particular. Watch something you find funny. Draw in as many good vibes as you can. Enjoy this time of rest. If you really can’t find anything to laugh at, then come back and re-read this piece and just laugh for no reason. Lol!

Or, if our family is user friendly, be honest with them that you need some time alone… for the married people, use chores like washing dishes or cleaning to spend time by yourself. ractice kindness and gratitude. Speaking of kindness, please say please and thank you. Thank you. You know? Basic manners! These can go a long way. If you cannot cook, help clear the table and wash the dishes. Go an extra mile and offer to clean your parents’ room. It is the little things that make these 21 days a bit more bearable. However, don’t do anything for recognition or thank yous. What you may deem as going an extra mile may be basic manners to others. But you can best believe that each little act of kindness will go a very long way. 21 days long!

B

e resourceful. Make things happen! Things will be great for the first week when you’ve just spent all your money on masks and hand sanitiser. By Week 2, the cupboard is halfway empty, every time a person eats, the breadwinner starts to think maybe the virus wasn’t bad after all. And then suddenly, in week 3, we should all consider fasting! No Ma’am, the virus is THAT bad but Jesus has it all under control. All you have to do, Sir, is control your meal plan. Perhaps lessen the number of dishes you serve with each meal. Which of the ingredients in your fridge are most likely to spoil? Cook those first. And if it’s a real stretch? Be creative with how you structure your meals. Pasta and mince can be made in many different ways

krĂŠhon SWIFT

to avoid food boredom. Consider drawing inspiration from YouTube instead of binge watching the news. You can use a break from that sometimes.

C

lean up after yourself Yhu, yhu, yhu! I sommer get mad thinking about cleaning up after people! Maybe I should read number 3 again (lol) but for real, you guys, please clean up after yourself. Especially if there’s 3 or more people in the house. You cannot expect one person to do all the cleaning. Take a broom and sweep away the bread crumbs after making yourself a sandwich (although this is only a week 1 struggle hahaha) and tidy up (and disinfect) the counters. Put the milk back in the fridge. And for CRYING OUT LOUD (takes a deep breathe) DO đ&#x;‘? NOT đ&#x;‘? DRINK đ&#x;‘? ANYTHING đ&#x;‘? DIRECTLY đ&#x;‘? FROM đ&#x;‘? THE đ&#x;‘? CONTAINER! (sigh) Remember that it is mainly through bad hygiene that the virus is spread between people. In any case you should always be a decent person.

S

tart and end each day with a moment of reflection Okay, Selah‌ let’ calm down. Now that you don’t have a train to catch or traffic to bypass, take a moment before leaving your bed each morning to reflect. Think of all your blessings, think of what you are happy about in your life. Even if you only find one

54

thing that day, think about it and be grateful for it. Keep that thought in your mind all day and draw from that place of gratitude whenever you feel the urge to complain. When you get to bed in the evening, think about your day and meditate on the things you’re grateful for. Some people ran out of food, yet you have food for tomorrow. Someone just found out that they’ve tested positive, you and your family are healthy. Bring to mind at least 5 things each night before you sleep and thank God for them. In order to survive this lockdown, all the little things have to count!

CONSIDER DRAWING INSPIRATION FROM YOUTUBE INSTEAD OF BINGE WATCHING THE NEWS. YOU CAN USE A BREAK FROM THAT SOMETIMES.

HAS THERE EVER BEEN A BETTER TIME TO BE A WOMAN THAN NOW? FORMING MOVEMENTS

IN THEIR DETERMINED STRUGGLE AGAINST POLITICAL OPPRESSION AND GENDER INEQUALITY THEY HAVE EARNED THEMSELVES A PLACE IN SOCIETY.

NO! We can go into history where women's freedom of expression, political views and gender equality has been oppressed. Women was disregarded and only men were the authority figures of society. Thus filtering into households as well where women had a certain role to upload and men continue with their muscular gender role. It has never been easy for women. But they've started forming movements. Encouraging

UNFORTUNATELY NOT I say unfortunately because although women have come a long way in our society there are still leaps that need to be made. History shows us that, in a very real sense, women were always less than. I revel in that, today, the level of women's rights is

unprecedented. However, society still holds in its heart the idea women is less than and the challenges that women faced hundreds of years ago still occurs underground. - Adam-Jarryd Radloff

issuu.com/krehon

THIS IS THE PERFECT TIME!

THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A BETTER TIME TO BE WOMAN THAN NOW

Patriarchy has always determined a women's place in society, but now women have decided to disrupt that narrative and started taking up spaces and using the voice they've always had. This is the perfect time to be a women we are becoming louder and stronger and indeed a real force to be reckoned with. We will be inspiring generations that will come after us, so we should continue on this journey, seasons are changing. God is telling his women of Valour to arise and be heard, be seen and known!

I’m going to speak for myself. I can’t generally speak for other woman, but for me, personally, there has never been a better time to be a woman than now. There were very little role models for women in previous generations. We see women all over the world becoming conduits for another woman to become all that she is destined to be. You don’t have to look far to be inspired these days. Women all around us are becoming great. By no means am I exalting one gender over the other. I believe that women are learning the value of what is means to be a woman and how to humbly embrace that. I know that many would say that it is a difficult time for women. I would argue that there is no better time to be a woman. I believe we are in an interesting time now, not where we should be, but we’re getting better. There is a lot of focus on women in the workplace. The diversity agenda is under fire and women are at the core of it, equal pay, equal opportunities, women on boards. I believe that woman will be heard, they will be seen, and they will leave a mark. Yes, it’s challenging for many women and yes it can get hard and yes, we have stats to prove all of this – but there is also opportunity, and an opportunity for women to become great. Woman are becoming great leaders, great business owners and a great voice. I believe that women are rising and not allowing statistics, injustices and bad behaviour to influence them negatively. Women are awakening to their value and I believe men around us are awakening to the value of woman too. They are embracing that women are problem solvers too & great leaders. They can tackle challenges. They look at possibilities and find ways to lead to creativity. Women might be the weaker vessel, but SHE is not the weaker minded. SHE is powerful and SHE is being AWAKENED.

- Ashleigh Le Fleur

GOD IS TELLING HIS WOMEN OF VALOUR TO ARISE AND BE HEARD, BE SEEN AND KNOWN!

LAWS NEED TO CHANGE In the past, even in biblical times women didn’t have a say. They were seen as lesser than. Opportunities were withheld from them. However, today we can see that a lot more change is happening. Even in church or religious spaces we find a lot more women now have a voice, and more opportunity. Even though we’ve made some strides, there’s still a lot more to be done. We’re not where we should be, that should be the emphasis. We still find today that in some Arab countries women can’t speak for themselves. Men are still earning a lot more. Gender based violence showed us that men still think women exist for their counterfeit pleasure and authority. The strides taken has not been enough. It is a better time to be a women, but there’s nothing to celebrate just yet. Laws need to change for equality to become a reality.

It is the date on which several prominent authors, William Shakespeare, Miguel Cervantes and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega all died.
