Miller Format:Perfect Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase The Journey to Freedom made me feel as if I were right in the era of racism and prejudice with Marissa and Greggory. The author makes the characters feel just as real as your own family. The story of their struggles, abuse, and courage captivated me and left me wanting more. The graphic detail provided the imagery to help me understand the nation as it was around the Civil War time period, when people distrusted and feared each other's differences. Although Journey to Freedom is filled with interesting characters, Carmen and Charles are one of the reasons I love this book. The atmosphere at their home is portrayed to be a safe haven, and their presence offers unconditional love and hope to all. When one of the younger characters was caught in a situation, I was quietly chanting in my mind for Carmen or Charles to come to the rescue, because the author did a fantastic job of creating a trust between the reader and these characters. I highly recommend, but be prepared for an emotional ride when you read this one!

I was fully engaged in the first 12 chapters of the book and I really enjoyed the end. The struggles the characters must go through to reach where they need to be in life is quite extraordinary. K does a great job of putting emotion into writing and making it come to life for the reader. The "journey" is one worth taking if you really love historical/Christian fiction. What I didn't like:
The switching of POV between more than two characters and that the description doesn't mention it being Christian fiction. However, those are just personal preferences.

Im not a huge reader like most of my family but I could not put this one down!! K. Meador put together a wonderful story, keeping you realed in for the finish! A must read!! :)

What starts out as a story about a couple Marissa and Greggory turns into an extended story of those they friend, all melding into family, where love abounds. What starts out as a search and escape for freedom twists and turns into marriage, family, separation, and ultimately finding God. It's a sweet read, an easy read, a good family and Christian read, that Meador put her heart in to.

I felt as if I were there as characters were on the run. I felt the fear as tragic situations occurred. I felt the emotions as characters fell in love. I felt the sorrow of death. I felt the lure of the Spirit as the Bible was shared. K-Trina has a way of pulling you into the story and then telling the story in such a way you truly experience it as you read. I didn't want to put the book down, but life made me! So I often found myself daydreaming about what might happen next until I could pick the book back up again! I highly recommend this book! I'm sure you'll enjoy it as much as I did!

This is a book that once you start reading that you just can't nor want to put down. It will make you laugh one minute then bring you to tears the next. You feel the struggles of the characters, their pain and heart ache but you also feel their determination and hope. I have read it twice already it's that good of a book and it justs gets better with each reading.

But when i became a man i put childish thoughts behind me" Corinthians 1-13-11 sums this book up nicely. The author takes us on a journey from slavery to freedom, from childhood to adulthood. Her characters grow up and become men in every sense of the word. Set against the horrors of the American civil war the story has everything a reader might desire tragedy, love, hope. The pace is steady, the story compelling the characters believable. if i were to be critical in any way i would perhaps have suggested one final edit but that is being pinicity. All in all a very enjoyable story from an author with obvious talent. well done‌ › See all 26 customer reviews (newest first)
