The plot follows Andy, the nerdiest kid in his class. Skinny, wearing glasses, and always talking to himself; Andy makes great bait for the ridicule of bullies and his peers. Andy is also embedded with the power to both see and communicate with ghosts and the dead. As opposed to other "children see dead people" style stories, like "The Sixth Sense," "Supernatural Hero" is a lot lighter. It is a kids book after all. Andy must use his powers to fight off an evil spirit and win over the girl who he is madly in love with. The book is very well written and has some genuinely interesting concepts. I really liked the tone, and think "Supernatural Hero" would make a great Halloween read.

I wasn't sure if she was going to like it because the main character is a boy, but she really loved it! I also read it first, to make sure it was a good book for her to read. Sometimes books for young adults surprise me. Not in a good way. This book was not only perfectly fine, I probably enjoyed it more than I should have! Andy's character is very well developed. His struggles were relatable and his adventures were exciting. Loved it! I think anyone in middle school would really enjoy it.

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful 5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful (Supernatural Hero) October 27, 2013 By FBK Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase This is such a delightful story wrapped in an unassuming book cover that does not give a hint into the magic inside. I couldn't help but root for the main character of Andy who speaks with his heart and not his mouth, as he is bullied by his older sister, kids at school, and ignored by his parents. He finds comfort from his uncomfortable life by hanging out with his Grandpa (who he says he loves more than anybody in the world), in his brainy friend Tom and from daydreaming

about a beautiful classmate Zoe, who early in the story does not know that he exists. When the unthinkable happens to Andy's beloved Grandpa (no, I'm not going to give it away), we think it will be the end of Andy, but in fact it is just the beginning because Grandpa keeps his promise to him, which gives him the strength to carry on and win the heart of Zoe. This is a delightful story for any young person that has ever had a problem, "getting invited to the party" or even worst, for those who get bullied. I really enjoyed the nostalgic journey as this story took me back to my school days. With a few tweaks, Supernatural Hero has the potential to become as big as the next Harry Potter. I can totally see it becoming a book series and film.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful 5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Book October 24, 2013 By M. Brown Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase I think any middle grade student would enjoy reading this book. It has everything that is important in a middle schooler's life, a nerdy boy who talks to ghosts, a mean big sister who he finally gets the nerve to stand up to. There are bullies at school, parents whom he adores but is afraid to open up to, a best friend, everyone needs one of those, and of course there's a girl he's sweet on. I don't want to give anything away, but this kid goes through a lot of different situations in this book, and the majority of them he handles very responsibly. I think that it would keep middle grade students engaged because the chapters are short, and there is action in each and every one of them, and in the end, the nerdy guy is not only a hero, he gets the girl. I highly recommend.

This wonderful children's book follows Andy, a sixth grade nerd who never gets invited to birthday parties and who is in love with Zoe, the prettiest girl in his class. I don't want to give away the plot, but a family tragedy infuses Andy with some paranormal abilities, and he is able to achieve greatness with a little help from an unexpected source. I found this story to be very moving as it explored Andy's life being bullied at school through his eventual redemption. The book is well-written, and the illustrations are outstanding. Andy's character is well-developed, and you find yourself rooting for him to become the true Supernatural Hero he wants to be.

We are a family that travels a lot (because of my profession), and sometimes it's very hard for the kids to find their place in school. I got the book to my daughter's birthday, and she still didn't put it down. Seems like she finds it easy to relate to the hero, and by doing that discovering her own supernatural powers. Amazing catch!! Thanks, Joshua › See all 24 customer reviews (newest first)
