Mountain Games full of outdoor fun! Morning showers did not dampen the enthusiasm at the JC Parks Mountain Games on Aug. 18, a unique outdoor adventure at which participants enjoyed kayaking, mountain biking, rock climbing, disc golf, music and lunch at Legion Street Pool. A looped mountain bike course with small obstacles was constructed, and bikes were available for riders. Outdoor accessories were displayed and expert information was provided. A DJ provided tunes during the three-hour event, and most in attendance stayed for a swim following the action. A special thank you to Mahoney's Outfitters, SORBA Tri-Cities, Local Motion, The Bike Shop, the SHHS Mountain Bike Team and Rockon Climbing. Other contributors and donors include Dollywood, Double Tree Hotel, Chick-fil-A, Sam’s Club, Walmart, Hampton Trails Bicycle Shop, WonderWorks, Mellow Mushroom, Barberitos and Anakeesta Theme Park.

Nature is very grateful to have many groups of volunteers. This brave group of scouting folks met on a rainy Saturday to walk and flag some problem areas containing invasive plants for removal. The whole scout troop of 30 individuals will return on a drier day and get the job done in Jacob’s Nature Park at Sinking Creek. Volunteers matter!

Carver Recreation Center staff joined the Little Chicago Festival on Aug. 11. They provided games and activities from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. to festival goers.

The department will cut the ribbon to open the new playground at Carver Park on Wednesday, Aug.29 at 4 p.m. Join us for the long awaited celebration!

After just two weeks, Amanda has transferred to the position of Athletic Manager. “With Amanda’s passion for athletics and her previous experience in the athletic operations, she was the obvious choice to fill the position,” said James Ellis, Parks and Recreation director. “I am certain that she will continue to lead our athletic programming to new heights”.
