Lakeside, Bert Street Concerts A Hit! Our two annual outdoor music series gained momentum this summer season, generating positive feedback and lots of new concert-goers. Winged Deer Park’s 15th annual Lakeside Concert Series showcased eight diverse bands at the Lakefront Festival Plaza Goulding Amphitheater. The third season of the Bert Street Music Series followed with a mix of talent and six concerts at the tiered Memorial Park Community Center amphitheater. It’s hard to beat manicured green rolling hills with beautiful Boone Lake as a backdrop at the Lakeside Concert Series. An ever-increasing amount of boats and watercraft, upgraded concessions by MaxDog’s Mobile Kitchen and easy access also make this series a winner. Roughly 3,500 attended the lakeside concerts, with average attendance at about 440. “We love to dance, especially to ‘50s and ‘60s music,” Dennis and Denise Davenport agreed. “The surroundings — especially at Winged Deer — who wouldn’t want to go out to the lake? Everything at both places is nice, including the concessions. Bert Street is super clean, and I like the stadium affect.” Three years into the Bert Street Music Series, attendance continues to ramp up. The 350-seat amphitheater lights up at night giving it a large movie theater feel, and the roomy walkways on Veterans Plaza give visitors a chance to socialize, dance and buy concessions. New covered staging was employed this year, and band members and concert-goers voiced their approvals about its placement closer to the audience. An estimated 1,850 attended the Bert Street series, with an average for the six shows of just over 300. “These are family oriented venues,” said John Bridges. “You cater to all ages, and it’s free. I have to say, the music’s much better here than in most venues.”
