Series finale strikes chord! The 70-piece Johnson City Symphony Orchestra closed out the Parks and Recreation Department’s Lakeside Concert Series at Winged Deer Park’s Goulding Amphitheater on Sept. 10 in front of the largest crowd in this year’s seven-concert schedule. Themed “Allegiance and Devotion,” patriotic and classical sounds stretched from the lakefront festival plaza to the far reaches of the park’s green fields. Academy of Strings, a group devoted to personal development of youth through music education, complemented the symphony with its “Millionaire’s Hoedown.” An estimated 1,500 concert-goers unfolded their chairs, picnicked on spread blankets and covered makeshift tables that held a variety of foods and floral arrangements on what turned out to be a very comfortable evening. American flags and red, white and blue clothing and banners marked the 16th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, while children and adults alike wore smiles, danced and tapped their feet, making the event light and festive.
