Summer Fun! This summer, children ages 6-12 years will enjoy a variety of safe, supervised, wholesome, fun-filled, and quality recreation activities provided by trained program leaders. Activities include sports, games, field trips, guest speakers, arts and crafts, and nature activities. The nurturing environment provides children with the freedom to explore new things, meet new friends, and create summer memories that last a lifetime.

Administration Highlights ~  Pavilion rental revenues for the month of June totaled $17,505.  Game-day opener for the Johnson City Cardinals took place on Sunday, June 26 with a packed house and a VIP reception in the new outdoor patio area called the Perch.

Athletics Division Highlights

~

 The youth and adult softball and the kickball programs all concluded this month.  Registration has begun for the youth soccer program and will continue with late registrations though the month of July. Practices will begin July 18.  The first soccer officials meeting will be held on July 18, and the official season will kick-off on August 8.  The summer tennis program will continue through July 14 at the Liberty Bell Tennis Center.  Registration for fall adult softball began on June 27 and will continue through August 5.

Park Services Division Highlights ~  The irrigation work at Indian Trails has been completed, and Washington County inmates cleared the banks around the ballfield.  The brick columns surrounding Cardinal Park were completed this month just in time for the season opener held on June 26.

Memorial Park Community Center ~ 

The ETSU Olympic Training staff spent time with Jump Start campers to prepare them for Olympic Day. They worked with youth on techniques in soccer, rugby, weightlifting, field hockey, track and field, bobsled, and skeleton as well as basketball. Jump Start and Carver Recreation Center campers all participated in this year’s Olympic Day at Kermit Tipton Stadium on Friday, June 24. The event drew more than 200 children which doubled last year’s total of 90. “To catch the reader's attention, place an interesting sentence or quote from the story here.”

Recreation Services Division ~  Wilderness Survival Camp was a big success with the kids as

they learned techniques in shelter building, reading a map, and preparing safe food and water.  The Carver Recreation Center

Teen Room got a much needed update with new furniture, 65 inch TV, and a Xbox One.

Congratulations goes to Sam Miller this month for landing in the Kudos Corner. Sam has supervised this year’s summer program, written AED plans for the department, and conducted inspections on a regular basis. He oversees the Aquatics operations, and has developed a Recreation Center Policy Handbook. In addition, Sam has implemented improvements at Carver Recreation Center with new furniture, gaming equipment, and a new television in the Teen Room. He added new lounge chairs, children’s games, and a covered picnic area at Legion Pool.
