Where There’s a Need There’s a Lion... In celebration of the 100th anniversary of Lions Clubs International, each club was asked to undertake a Centennial Legacy Project, that being, a building or improvement of a community facility. The Johnson City Lions Club chose to work with the Parks and Recreation Department to enhance their namesake park Lions Park. The City and the Lions Club have a long history of working together to make Johnson City a better community; and on March 16 members of the Lions Club, City Commissioners, and city staff dedicated a new 16’ x 20’ covered pavilion at Lions Park. Lions Club provided $7, 152 in funding for construction of the 12-seat capacity pavilion, which will have a lasting impact on the community and is a much needed addition to Lions Park.

 City Services Day was held on Thursday, March 15. The twenty-five participants were able to test out the new EyePlay inter-active floor gaming system during their visit.

Recreation Services Division ~  Students in the drawing class at Princeton Arts Center learned how to draw simple shapes to create everyday objects.  Carver’s Spring Break Camp had 20 youth enrolled. Field trips included Fender’s Farm, a movie, swimming, bowling, and Just Jump.  ETSU practica students made seed balls for Jacob’s Nature Park at Sinking Creek. Native wildflower seed, moist potting soil, and a bit of organic kitty litter to hold the mixture together, are rolled to make marble sized balls. This method protects the tiny seeds from wind, birds, squirrels, etc. This also makes it easier to know where you have planted and gives the seeds a little bit of soil for their start.
