It Pays To Play ... Regular physical activity reduces the risk of many health issues in both children and adults. Playing organized sports, for instance, can have an impact on a child’s health and development, and can carry over into adulthood. Physical activity can help develop and improve cognitive skills; improve physical health, social skills, and mental health; as well as reduce stress. Physical activity in general has been linked to improving self-esteem, setting, goals, and developing leadership abilities. Parks and Recreation just released its Fall/Winter program guide; and it is filled with athletic programs, fall break camps, art, music, nature activities, holiday fun, and loads of great physical activities to get you up, and out of the house and moving. So get active today, and see how the power of play can work for YOU to improve your overall health!

Why Do We Play? As a child, this was never a question we had to ask. Play was as natural as breathing. Couch cushions became forts. Cardboard boxes helped us rocket to the moon. Splashing in puddles was totally hilarious. Remember that? Play was our first taste of freedom. And in that freedom we discovered who we were and what we could be.
