SWIMMING & DIVING
2015-16 Season Preview With an Olympic games on the horizon, the 2015-16 Kansas swimming and diving team will take training to a new level in the upcoming months in hopes to prepare the squad for an eventful year. The Jayhawks are already off to a successful start as senior Chelsie Miller and freshman Libby Walker have both turned in Olympic Trial cuts previously this summer. While a large portion of the team will be looking to punch their own ticket to Omaha, Nebraska for Olympic Trials, Kansas’ international swimmers Pia Pavlic and Yulduz Kuchkarova could automatically qualify for the Rio de Janeiro games with the right times in several long course competitions this year. “This is a big year for the sport because it’s an Olympic year,” head coach Clark Campbell said. “The training is going to ramp up pretty quick, usually we have a slower lead into the season but this time it will be fairly fast.” Along with a rigorous training schedule in preparation for the upcoming summer, KU is hoping to find its way back into the toptwo at the Big 12 Championships as well as increase its representation at the NCAA meet. Returning all but four athletes - two swimmers and two divers - the experienced squad has its sights set high for the season. In addition to the multiple veterans, Kansas will introduce six talented newcomers to the roster, five of which are freshmen. “We only lost two swimmers from last year’s team,” Campbell said. “It’s ‘game on’ because now we have six new ones who are at a really high level. In what little we lost, numbers wise, and then how many we have brought in, makes for a very good environment and training.” While the Jayhawks are hopeful for a successful year in the water, they also have goals to attain outside of their performances in the pool. As a unit, the team will be working toward improving its culture. Campbell believes that Kansas swimming
yulduz kuchkarova
and diving has created a good team culture, but it’s looking for a “championship culture.” In addition to developing stronger team unity, they will also work toward building self-confidence on an individual level. “With more self-confidence we are better athletes, better students and we have a better culture because of it,” Campbell said. “I think if we draw on those two things, improve on our culture and our confidence then that will make the team better in and out of the water.” Freestyle • Nika Fellows, Sammie Schurig and Lindsey Manning make up a large portion of the
distance swimmers. All three turned in top-six finishes in their respected events at the Big 12 Championship meet. • Haley Molden will look to build on an impressive resume during her senior campaign, after recording a career-best mark at Big 12’s and earning a top-eight finish in each of her 200-yard swims last year. • Four-time Oklahoma state champion, Breonna Barker will contribute speed to the Jayhawk sprints. • After recording the team’s fastest 50-yard freestyle time at the conference meet, junior Leah Pfitzer hopes to build off last year’s strong finish. • Sophomore Hannah Driscoll placed in the top16 in all three individual freestyle events she competed in at the 2015 Big 12 Championships.

• Sophomore Briana Balsbough joins the Kansas squad after swimming at San Diego State for a year. Campbell on Molden: “Pretty much top to bottom, from the 50- to the 1,650- we’re going to be pretty strong. Haley (Molden) had a tremendous summer. She had lifetime best times and came within a whisker of qualifying for Olympic trials. We’re really excited about what she has done.”

INTRODUCTION
Backstroke • After turning in a pair of runner-up finishes at Big 12’s last year, along with earning her way into the Kansas record books, junior Yulya Kuchkarova has proven to be a force in the water. • Freshman Taylor Sieperda spent the summer getting acquainted with Robinson Natatorium and will bring a fresh look to the backstroke events. • Sophomore Madison Hutchison earned career-best times in three backstroke sprints at last year’s conference meet. • Placing in the top-six in every 100-yard swim last season, junior Hannah Angell adds an element of speed to the team. • Senior captain Laura Bilsborrow concluded last season with three career-best times at the 2015 Big 12 Championships. Campbell on Kuchkarova: “Yulya is our go-to person, she had a great summer. She went to the world championships and then to the world cup. She’s going to be full of energy and have a really good season.” Butterfly • Three freshmen: Haley Bishop, Cassaundra Pino and Libby Walker, will add depth to the event. • Veteran Pia Pavlic has proven to be a consistent scorer for the Jayhawks over the last two years and will look to continue the trend for her junior season. • Sophomores Anna Peirano turned a career-best time in last season’s final meet and will look to build off the success this year. • Zoya Wahlstrom has become a steady performer in the butterfly events. Campbell on the butterfly events: “The butterfly last year was a little thin, but this year I think it will be a big strength for us.”
Mj Cs R
Campbell on Lydia Pocisk: “Lydia ripped it up last year. She was a really a big get for us.”

Breaststroke • After earning a spot at the top of Kansas’ all-time records for her performance in the 100-yard breaststroke at Big 12’s, senior captain Bryce Hinde will look to take her talents to the next level. • Gretchen Pocisk returns for her junior season after setting career-best times in an impressive outing at the Big 12 Championships. • Sophomore Lydia Pocisk, younger sister to Gretchen, turned in three top-10 finishes at the conference meet in her rookie season.

SWIMMING & DIVING
2015-16 Senior class
Individual Medley • Back-to-back NCAA appearances and a summer of training with some on the nation’s most elite swimmers make for a promising senior campaign for Chelsie Miller. • Recording top-eight finishes in both the 200- and 400-yard IM at Big 12’s and nominated as Freshman of the Year by Kansas’ swimming and diving staff, sophomore Madison Straight adds versatility to the Jayhawks. Campbell on Miller: “Chelsie will be leading the way in the IM’s this year. With the summer that she had and the experiences that she’s been exposed to, I really think that she knows what it’s going to take to get to the next level.” Diving • Junior Graylyn Jones recorded career-high scores in the one-meter, three-meter and platform throughout the course of last season. She also earned a pair of 10th-place finishes in the one- and three-meter competitions at the conference meet. Jones’ performance at Big 12’s qualified her for NCAA Zones. • The only Jayhawk to advance to the finals on the platform at Big 12’s, sophomore Nadia Khechfe would go on to represent Kansas at the 2015 NCAA Zone D Diving Championships. Campbell on the divers: “Graylyn and Nadia have both responded very well to Gabe (Downey) and are ready to step it up. We are going to be a little thin in diving with only having the two of them, but our quality is really good.”

waving the wheat Since the early days of KU sports, it has been a ritual of Jayhawk fans to “wave the wheat” following every Kansas scoring drive in football. The tradition also extends to Allen Fieldhouse where fans “wave the wheat” when an opponent fouls out and at the conclusion of every Jayhawk victory. The ritual consists of fans waving their arms in the air, an activity which, when done by a large crowd, resembles a breezy Kansas wheat field.
6.
the rock chalk chant The Rock Chalk Chant has been the battle cry of KU fans for more than 80 years. This strange, traditional chant, which is among the most famous of all college cheers, was started by E.H.S. Bailey, a professor of chemistry. On May 21, 1886, Bailey submitted the cheer to his club.

the alma mater In 1891, professor George Barlow Penny searched for a school song for the Glee and Mandolin Club to sing on its tour through Kansas to Denver and back. No one responded with an original song in answer to his appeals. Just before departure, he thought of the Cornell song “Far Above Cayuga’s Waters.” Hastily changing a few words, he gave it to the glee club men to sing on the trip. He did not expect the song to be used after their return, but “Crimson and the Blue” still goes on. The music is not Cornell’s but an old English folk tune, “Annie Lisle.”

“Give the world the best you’ve got and the best will come back to you.”
The Nickname: Jayhawk The University of Kansas is the home of the Jayhawk, a mythical bird with a fascinating history. Its origin is rooted in the historic struggles of Kansas settlers. The term “Jayhawk” was probably coined about 1848. Accounts of its use appeared from Illinois to Texas. The name combines two birds - the blue jay, a noisy, quarrelsome thing known to rob other nests, and the sparrow hawk, a stealthy hunter.

“I am forever a Jayhawk and forever changed because of my experience swimming for the University of Kansas. This incredible program gave me the opportunity to maximize my potential not only as a swimmer, but as a student and as an individual. The coaches and the staff are truly unique because they care about each and every person that is a part of the Jayhawk family. Excellence is something that is not only expected of student-athletes here, but is demonstrated to us by our support staff on a daily basis. The University of Kansas is a place where I established life-long relationships, while working hard in the pool and in the classroom. It is also somewhere that I will always cherish because I learned and grew so much through all of my hard work, competition and fun. Rock Chalk Jayhawk!”
“I was recruited by more than 20 different Division I universities when I was applying to college. Through my experiences, I found that many of them offered me what I was looking for, but it became clear that I was looking for something more than just a good program and quality school. What I was searching for was a group of people who would serve as a family that would help me grow as a person, a swimmer and a student. After speaking with (head coach) Clark (Campbell) and (assistant coach) Jen (Fox) for the first time, it did not take long to realize that these people were the ones I needed to trust in and believe. Once I stepped foot on campus, my experiences were much more than I could have imagined. Girls on the team were welcoming and nice, coaches were respectful and dedicated, and the place was beautiful and felt like home.”
“There are so many unique and wonderful things about coming to school here. KU has provided me with a great college experience and has taught me how to balance academics and athletics successfully. Being a member of the Jayhawk swimming and diving team is in large part why my experience has been so great. Clark and Jen have done so much for me in the years I have been here, not only in the pool but in all aspects of student life. Most importantly, being on this team meant sharing these experiences with a group of girls, who are not only my teammates but my friends for life. I could not have asked for a better place to be!”
“I had the wonderful opportunity to swim for the University of Kansas from 2002-06. I could not have asked for better coaches, teammates, support staff, and what I received for an education. I had some of the best memories of my life as a member of the KU swim team, and it made me who I am today. Swimming for a Big 12 school is an amazing experience, but being a Jayhawk and representing the University of Kansas was truly priceless.”

Coming off of a season filled with milestones and historic performances the previous year, the Kansas swimming and diving program posted another impressive outing during the 2014-15 campaign. Under the direction of head coach Clark Campbell, the Jayhawks finished the year with a 9-3 dual meet record, the best record since the 2008-09 season and the fifth time Campbell has led a team to nine or more victories. KU’s dominance in the pool brought Campbell to a 167-92 dual meet record throughout his coaching career. Campbell’s laid-back and genuine demeanor helps build close relationships with each of his swimmers outside of the pool. Not only does he care about making his swimmers better in the pool, but also in the classroom. Campbell’s team has been named by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) as a national Academic AllAmerican Team, earning a team GPA of 3.0 or higher, all 26 semesters he has managed the program.

Campbell received a Bachelor’s degree from Kansas in 1993, and a Master’s in physical education/coaching from West Virginia University in 1995. Campbell and his wife, Cassie, have three children: Canaan, Cierra and Claire.

Coaching Before Kansas Prior to his appointment at KU, Campbell coached at the University of Evansville for three years. There, he led several athletes to success at the national level and helped the program reach new heights. The Purple Aces established school records in all 19 men’s and women’s events while Campbell was at the helm of the program in 1998. Those top marks included 12 Missouri Valley Conference records. sixth year
Since arriving at the University of Kansas in 2009, Bernadette Gray-Little has advanced KU’s mission of lifting students and society by educating leaders, building healthy communities, and making discoveries that change the world. Through the Bold Aspirations strategic plan, KU is changing the way it prepares students for success. It’s fostering research and scholarship across all disciplines, and sharing the benefits of a flagship university with the state and world. Gray-Little led the effort to create new admission standards for the University of Kansas. These new standards take effect in 2016 and will give students and families a more accurate picture of what it takes to be successful at a research university. Under Chancellor Gray-Little’s leadership, the university has also revamped financial aid, creating four-year renewable scholarships and expanding the Jayhawk Generations Scholarship. And it has launched its first university-wide curriculum, the KU Core, which incorporates both classes and experiences, making KU a leader among its national peers. Gray-Little has also been instrumental to Far Above: The Campaign for Kansas, KU Endowment’s $1.2 billion comprehensive fundraising campaign. Additionally, the university’s Changing for Excellence initiative is making administrative operations more efficient, with the savings being invested in education and research. As chancellor, Gray-Little is the chief executive officer of the university, overseeing campuses in Lawrence, Kansas City, Overland Park, Salina and Wichita, as well as research and educational centers in Garden City, Hays, Parsons, Pittsburg, Topeka and Yoder.
Gray-Little was one of four university leaders selected to represent the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities at a White House summit on math and science education in January 2010. She is also on the board of trustees for the Online Computer Library Center, an international organization dedicated to expanding public access to information and research. Prior to becoming KU’s 17th Chancellor, Gray-Little held leadership positions at the University of North CarolinaChapel Hill, including executive vice chancellor and provost.

Dr. Sheahon (SHAY-un) Zenger is a coach at heart. But when KU Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little introduced the Hays, Kan., native as KU’s Athletics Director January 3, 2011, he promised not to call any plays for the coaches. That doesn’t mean, though, that he won’t be right there with them – and their student-athletes – every step of the way. For it’s his genuine care for coaches and studentathletes that has stamped his career in intercollegiate athletics. Since Zenger’s arrival at KU, those coaches and student-athletes have raised the bar with outstanding performances on both the conference and national stages. Highlights include:
Still, coaching stayed in his blood. He joined the football staff at the University of South Florida and then at the University of Wyoming before returning to Kansas State, eventually serving as KSU’s associate athletics director for development. He held that position until becoming Athletics Director at Illinois State in 2005. Zenger served for three years on the NCAA Division I Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement. He also served on two NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Division committees, and was a member of the Executive Committee of NACDA’s Division I FCS Athletic Directors Association. He is married to the former Pam McAnarney; they have three children: Luke, Abby and Jake.

Zenger came to KU after serving for five years as athletics director at Illinois State University, helping steer ISU Athletics to a place of prominence in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Redbirds won a conference-leading seven league titles during the 2009-10 season and captured their second Valley All-Sports Trophy in three years. ISU also reached highs in fundraising, academics and community service during Zenger’s tenure there.
It became evident, though, that more than coaching was in store for Zenger. He came to KU to earn his Ph.D. in educational policy and leadership, while strengthening his understanding of university leadership at the highest levels.
Mj
Zenger has spearheaded a tremendous upgrade in Kansas Athletics’ facilities as well – improvements he expects will help KU’s coaches and student-athletes continue their run of outstanding performances. Most notable among these is the completion of Rock Chalk Park, which contains new, state-of-the-art stadiums for KU’s Track & Field, Soccer and Softball programs. Memorial Stadium has received a facelift as well. In summer 2014 the track surrounding the football field was removed, replaced with new artificial turf, bringing the turf to within 10 feet of the stands. In addition, construction is underway on the DeBruce Center, the permanent home of James Naismith’s original “Rules of Basket Ball,” adjacent to historic Allen Fieldhouse. Finally, the beautiful new McCarthy Hall, which houses the men’s basketball team and an equal number of distinguished non-student-athletes, opened its doors for the 2015-16 academic year.
Zenger’s career took several turns before landing in athletics administration. After playing football at Fort Hays State and Mid-American Nazarene College, and even before he finished his undergraduate degree at Kansas State, he was pursuing his dream of coaching by assisting the football coaches at Manhattan (Kan.) High School. His first college football coaching job came at Drake University right after graduation; he then joined Bill Snyder’s staff at Kansas State, serving in key roles as assistant recruiting coordinator and director of football operations.

2014-15 Season Review Coming off a season with a program-best finish at the 2014 Big 12 Championship, the Kansas swimming and diving team had lofty expectations to live up to. After losing seven seniors, the Jayhawks turned to the nine freshmen and 10 returning Big 12 finalists. Although Kansas failed to reach its ultimate goal, due in part to a tough start at the conference meet, the team was able to strengthen its overall dual meet record to 9-3 and finish third at the 2015 Big 12 Championship, the end of a productive season.
“Lindsay Manning was terrific,” Campbell said. “Both times at UNO were faster than what she went at the 2014 Big 12 meet. We knew she had to keep rolling, training hard and racing well. She’s a totally different person than she was last year.” The first Robinson Natatorium home meet featured men’s and women’s competition in a two-day double dual against the Missouri State Bears and Denver Pioneers (Oct. 24-25). Overall, eight pool records were taken down, seven of which were on the men’s side. Standout swims by Haley Molden and Deanna Marks helped Kansas defeat Missouri State, 277-75, but couldn’t bring the Jayhawks past Denver, who spent portions of the 2015 season ranked in the top-25, 204-138. “My goal was to go faster than I did at UNO,” Molden said. “I did, and I was really excited. I wanted to go 1:52 or faster in my 200 and :52 or faster in my 100. That’s what I did and I was so happy with it.” Marks posted two top-three performances in the 100- and 200-yard

butterfly events. On the second day of the double dual, Marks and Caroline Patterson were honored as seniors for their dedication and commitment to the Kansas program. In its first Big 12 matchup, Kansas hosted TCU in a double-dual with North Dakota (Nov. 1). After coming off a tough loss to Denver, Kansas faced stiff competition against the Horned Frogs, who just one year prior had defeated the Jayhawks, 176-124. The competition fueled KU, as the team won all but three events in a double-dual sweep. “We performed at a very high level,” Campbell said. “We had a lot of standout performances and it was a really good way to start the season.”
Cs R Hr
The streak of confidence continued through to the third annual Kansas Classic (Nov. 21-23) as the Jayhawks took first overall in a five-team field with 1,283 points. Big 12 foe Iowa State finished second (1,093), followed by Northern Iowa (441), Nebraska-Omaha (378) and Tabor College (146).

“We had a solid meet from top to bottom,” Campbell said. “You want to get to that point where it’s going to come down to the last relay. We got it there, Yulduz made the touch, and we got the win. It was a great way to end.”
Ksd
Another shot at redemption came for the Jayhawks as they hosted the University of Illinois in a televised event, Nov. 8. In a meet spanning over two and a half hours, it came down to the last three-hundredths of a second, as Yulduz Kuchkarova edged out the Illini in the final leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay to win the meet, 154-146.

REVIEW
Talent shined early as the Jayhawks opened the regular season in irregular fashion at the University of Nebraska-Omaha’s “freestyle festival” (Oct. 13). The unconventional meet format consisted of eight total events with each team allowed to count just three competitors per event toward the team score and each individual athlete only allowed to score in one event. It didn’t seem to affect the Jayhawks much as KU saw victories in the four individual events, two relays and one of the two diving events. Head coach Clark Campbell noted sophomore Lindsay Manning’s improvement early on.

“Schedule-wise, it was pretty much just like what we would see at conference,” Campbell said. “We tried to swim and get our best time possible in the morning, and then at night went for glory.”

The glory of the win was paired with 70 new career-best times posted at the Classic, along with two new meet records in the 200-medley and 800-yard freestyle relays. Finishing up the 2014 calendar year, the swimming and diving team split up in December as Hannah Driscoll, Bryce Hinde, Chelsie Miller and Lydia Pocisk had the opportunity to join America’s best at the USA Winter Nationals in Greensboro, North Carolina (Dec. 4-6). At the meet, Miller—who, at the time, was honored as Big 12 Women’s Swimmer of the Week—represented Kansas well as she finished with a silver medal in the 400-yard IM. Driscoll also posted her career-best and second-fastest team time in the 100-yard freestyle at the national meet, clocking in at 51.22. Meanwhile, the rest of the team held a time trial event at the Jayhawk Open (Dec. 6), where Kuchkarova suited up and carved her name on the Robinson Natatorium record board, breaking Iuliia Kuzhill’s record from 2010 in 1:57.83.
freestyle at the double-dual. “I was really happy with where we all were at as a team.”
“The beginning of this year was really different because I was training alone for the Asian Games,” Kuchkarova said. “It was exciting to be back with all of my teammates. It was a huge help to have my teammates encouraging me and helping me train hard and keep up with them.”
Kansas returned home to battle perhaps one of its toughest opponents of the season, as it matched up with Arkansas on Jan. 31. Fast times and close finishes, most of which went the Razorbacks’ way, brought Arkansas to a 194-105 victory over the Jayhawks. Although not the ideal outcome for KU, the meet provided top-quality competition for the Jayhawks prepping for the upcoming Big 12 Conference Championship.
Kansas kicked off the new calendar year with its annual training trip, this year in California. The trip began in Los Angeles with a double-dual against UCLA and San Diego (Jan. 10), where the team fell 168-126 to UCLA—No. 8 nationally, at the time—but topped San Diego, 158.5-89.5. The Jayhawks then traveled south to San Diego for one week of outdoor training before starting the spring semester.
“Some meets you’re the hammer, other meets you’re the nail,” Campbell said. “Against Arkansas, we were the nail, but we competed really well. In dual meets, the final score really doesn’t matter—it’s all about the process and competing. Our girls did that. We lost a few touches, and that can add up, but we were still really pleased with how we competed. Those are great meets to help prepare us later on for Big 12s.”
In the last double-dual meet of the season, KU traveled to Liberty, Missouri to take on Truman State and William Jewell (Jan. 24). Seven pool records fell and all but one event was won by the Jayhawks, who swept the Bulldogs, 164-90, and the Cardinals, 169-83.
The Jayhawks rounded out the regular season at home with long-time Big 12 rival Iowa State in a two-day dual meet (Feb. 6-7). Eight season-best times for the Kansas team, the fastest medley relay at a dual meet this season, and event wins by Miller in the 1,000-yard freestyle, Molden in the 200-yard freestyle and Kuchkarova in the 100-yard backstroke solidified a lead over the Cyclones, 94-56, after the first eight events. Although not a win, freshman diver Nadia Khechfe qualified for the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships, scoring 280.20 on the three-meter boards.
“It was so exciting and motivated me for conference,” said Manning, who won three individual events and set a new pool record in the 800-meter
The momentum continued through the second day as Kansas took the victory, 169-131. The win closed the door on the dual meet season, as Kansas finished 9-3.

“We have really developed a nice rivalry with Iowa State,” Campbell said. “Iowa State and us are the last remaining members from the Big Eight. We have very similar programs and both teams really respect each other. It’s a good rivalry that has carried over in several sports, and definitely (includes) swimming and diving. I thought that meet was a good preview of what was to come at conference.”

Kansas entered the 2015 Big 12 Championships (Feb. 25-28) with confidence as the 2014 runner-up and a winning regular-season record. The excitement and confidence was quickly changed during the first event, as a disqualification on the Kansas 200-yard medley relay was announced. With just two events on the first day, a solid start was crucial to how things might unfold in later days. In the second event, the 800-yard freestyle relay, swam a close race to finish third.
The Jayhawks climbed into third place on day three, as two records fell and four all-time top-five swims were recorded. Miller continued the recordbreaking streak, lowering her previous 400-yard IM record from 4:07.97 down to 4:05.67, placing second. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Bryce Hinde clocked in at 1:01.98 to secure her place as the school record-holder by three-hundredths of a second. Freshman Lydia Pocisk also made her mark, swimming 1:02.21 to claim the third-fastest 100-yard breaststroke time in school history and place seventh overall. Two more all-time top-five times went down in the 100-yard backstroke, as Kuchkarova earned a silver medal with a time of 53.41. Kuchkarova’s new career-best time ranks second in KU history. Hannah Angell also set a new career best, finishing fourth overall in a time of 55.34—the fifth-fastest time by a KU swimmer.
Miller went on as the only swimmer to represent Kansas in her second appearance at the NCAA Championships (March 19-21) in the 200- and 400yard IM, as well as the 1,650-yard freestyle. On the first day, Miller’s time of 1:59.97 in the 200-yard IM placed 55th overall. Continuing onto the second day, she clinched a 13th-place finish and her second All-American title in the 400-yard individual medley, with a time of 4:08.77. Miller concluded the 2014-15 season for the Jayhawks swimming the 1,650-yard freestyle in a time of 16:17.02 to place 26th.
REVIEW
Things turned around on the second day, as Miller broke her own school record in the 200-yard individual medley, dropping her time from 1:58.98 to 1:58.37. KU placed Sammie Schurig and Madison Straight in the topeight heat for the 500-yard freestyle and 200-yard IM, respectively, and an additional 12 Jayhawk swimmers and divers placed in the top-16 to score points for the team. The 400-yard medley relay also gave KU a boost into solidifying fourth place, placing second overall.
diving coach Gabe Downey said. “When I came in, it felt like they weren’t very confident. Now, they’ve gone up against some of the top competitors in the country, and were able to show poise and confidence. I’ve seen a huge improvement. They train better; they’re working harder and doing more things to be successful. They’re doing a great job taking strides toward where they want to be and where they need to be.”
Miller extended her season by competing at the USA Open Water Nationals (April 24), swimming her first 10k race in 2:11:11.86. The junior placed 21st overall. “Overall, it was a really good season,” Campbell said. “Every year you have ups and downs. We were disappointed with the final score (at the Big 12 Championship), but the way we swam and competed all year was very successful.” Losing just two seniors, the swimming and diving team will return 13 topeight finishers from the Big 12 Championships. The team will turn to five incoming freshmen to help build upon a strong foundation for the 2015-16 season. The expectations remain high, and the Jayhawks have even more motivation to reach their goals.
Kuchkarova and Miller earned two more silver medals on day four, in the 200yard backstroke and 200-yard butterfly, respectively. Miller’s performance in the fly lowered her school record from 1:58.58 to 1:58.53. In the diving well, Khechfe advanced to finals, placing seventh overall with a final score of 180.60. In the end, it was not enough to overcome Iowa State and the Jayhawks finished third behind Texas (1,082.5) and the Cyclones (618.5) with 589 points. West Virginia claimed fourth place (481) and TCU (458), fifth. Ksd
“It was a really good meet,” Campbell said. “We were there physically, but we made too many mental mistakes. With our team being 75 percent freshmen and sophomores, I’m really excited to see what the future holds. We’ll use this to motivate us and be better next year.”

Kansas divers Graylyn Jones and Khechfe continued the season at the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships March 9-11. On the three-meter boards, Jones placed 40th with a score of 223.30 and Khechfe, 45th (210.55). Both divers increased rankings on the one-meter boards, as Jones placed 34th with a score of 235.25 and Khechfe (228.80) placed 42nd. On the platform, Khechfe was the only diver representing KU. Khechfe scored 150.60, finishing 29th.
