Head Coach Stanley Redwine Stanley Redwine Head Cross Country Coach Sixth Year At Kansas/12th Overall Arkansas ‘85

As a world-class track athlete, an assistant coach at one of the top collegiate programs in the country, and a head coach in his first five years at Kansas, Stanley Redwine has always been a believer and an achiever. Now in his sixth season at the helm of Kansas men's and women's track and field and cross country teams, Redwine has turned what some called a rebuilding project into a solidified program. In Redwine's first five seasons, 17 Kansas athletes have achieved 30 All-American honors, and the men's and women's teams have combined to set over 50 new school records and break the KU all-time top-five list in over 60 events. The 2002 men's indoor team's eighth-place finish at the NCAA Championships marked the second time in two years for the KU tracksters, which was an improvement over the 47th place showing before Redwine in 2000. A Kansas men's indoor roster had not recorded a top-10 NCAA finish since 1989 when the team tied for fourth. The Jayhawk men also tied for 21st place in the outdoor season which was the best finish by a KU outdoor team since 1989. Redwine and both the 2001 and 2002 indoor men's teams have already been enshrined in the KU Hall of Fame for the NCAA eighth-place finishes. In the 2001-02 track season, Redwine produced eight Big 12 champions, 21 total NCAA qualifiers and two individual national titlists. In addition, the 2002 squad set four outdoor and seven indoor school records and one all-time collegiate record. The men's indoor roster finished seventh in the conference and eighth in the nation while the women ended the indoor season sixth in the conference. The Jayhawk men gave a fourth-place performance at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships and then finished 21st nationally as the women took eighth place at the conference meet. The 2005 indoor season saw the women finish seventh in the conference, while the men came in eighth. Also in 2005, Coach Redwine guided pole vaulter Amy Linnen to NCAA and Big 12 Championships in her event. In the 2005 outdoor season, the Jayhawk men had a fourth-place performance at the Big 12 Championships and then finished 25th nationally as the women took sixth place at the outdoor conference meet and 29th nationally. Redwine mentored seven different athletes to a total of nine All-America awards in his first year at Kansas and then in 2002, seven athletes brought home a total of eight All-America titles. This past season Redwine oversaw Jeremy Mims, Sheldon Battle, Brooklyn Hann, Amy Linnen, and Ekaterina Sultanova all garner All-American accolades in outdoor track. Additionally, Redwine guided athletes to success in national and international competition. In the summer of 2003, three athletes qualified for the USATF Indoor Championships and two athletes were finalists at the USATF Outdoor Championships. Also in the summer of 2002, five of Redwine's athletes were named USATF Junior All-Americans, including one USATF champion. In the spring and summer of 2001, KU

had three athletes qualify for the USATF Indoor Championships, two athletes compete at the USATF Outdoor Championships, two athletes set a total of three national records, one athlete compete at the IAAF World Championships in Edmonton, Canada, and two athletes competed at the World University Games in Beijing, China. This past summer has been no exception to Jayhawk success on the international track circuit. Paul Hefferon captured silver in the 5000 meter race at the Junior Pan Am Games in Windsor, Ontario, while Jeremy Mims has been sprinting to victory at numerous meets across Europe. Redwine's 2004 men's cross country team tied its Big 12 and regional finishes from the previous season. The 2004 women's team tied their tenth place Big 12 performance from the 2003 season and finished 16th at the NCAA Midwest Regionals. Both teams will look to build on those results in the upcoming 2005 season and qualify as a team for the NCAA Championships. In addition to the team finishes, Coach Redwine mentored Benson Chesang to a first place finish at the Big 12 Championships and a seventh place result as the school's lone NCAA Championships qualifier. Before Redwine was selected as head coach at Kansas on May 25, 2000, he had a six-year stint as head coach at the University of Tulsa. At Tulsa, Redwine's athletes broke over 70 school records, most on multiple occasions. In many events, Redwine's athletes completely rewrote the Golden Hurricane's all-time top 10 performance lists. His success at Tulsa was not, however, limited just to the school record book. Under Redwine, Tulsa athletes achieved numerous USA and NCAA rankings in many different events, both men and women. The list of events includes the women's 4x400m (3:36.93 outdoor, 3:40.14 indoor), women's 400m (53.12 outdoor, 54.11 indoor), women's 3000m (9:34.45), women's 5000m (16:42.24), men's mile (3:59.29), men's 1500m (3:42.43), men's 800m (1:47.69), men's DMR (9:37.95), women's 4x800m (8:59.16) and men's long jump (24-11 3/4). At Tulsa, Redwine produced 11 NCAA qualifiers and the school's first ever All-American. In addition, two athletes qualified for the USA Track and Field National Championships, also the school's first ever. During Redwine's tenure, Tulsa athletes won several conference individual championships and contributed to the top team conference finishes ever for a Tulsa team.

Coach Redwine/Assistant Coach Doug Clark Prior to his appointment at Tulsa in 1994, Redwine spent 11 years as an assistant coach at the University of Arkansas, one of the premier track and field programs in the nation. During his tenure at UA, the Razorbacks captured nine consecutive NCAA Championships and 22 titles from 1985 through 1994 in both track and field and cross country. He helped produce 14 All-Americans and two NCAA champions in hurdle and sprint events. Among those All-Americans are two-time NCAA indoor and outdoor champion in the 400m, Calvin Davis; three-time NCAA champion in the 400m and 500m, Robbie Haley; and seven-time All-American sprinter, Jimmy French. Before becoming a coach at Arkansas, Redw ine placed his name in the Razorback history books as a 400m, 600y and 800m runner from 1980-83. Redwine was a four-time AllAmerican and was named UA's Outstanding Track Athlete all four of his years in Fayetteville. During his freshman season, he captured the Southwest Conference Championships in the indoor 600-yard run (1:10.52) and was a member of the outdoor conference champion 1,600m relay team. The next year, Redwine once again became the 600-yard run champion, improving his time to 1:09.97. As a senior, he was a three-time conference champion in the 800m run (1:50.15), 880-yard run (1:50.96) and the mile relay (3:14.69). Redwine still ranks among the Razorbacks' top 10 in six events, which includes anchoring the school's record-setting sprint medley relay team (3:15.10) at the Penn Relays in 1983, which now ranks as the second-best time in history. Redwine owns the fourth-best time in school history in the 800m at 1:46.13. In addition, he also ranks fourth in the outdoor 400m dash and was a participant in several top-10 relay performances for the Razorbacks. He still holds the fourth, seventh and eighth-best times in the outdoor 1600m relay record book and the second, sixth and ninth-best times in the outdoor DMR. For his achievements, Redwine was inducted into the University of Arkansas Hall of Honor. Professionally, Redwine retired from competition in 1996

after he finished fifth in the 800m at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Atlanta, Ga. He was a U.S. Olympic Trial qualifier five consecutive times from 1980 to 1996 and was a two-time silver medalist in the 800m run in the Goodwill Games in 1986 and 1994. He also won two bronze medals at the Pan American Games in 1983 and 1987. Redwine was also a World Championship Track Team member in 1985, 1987, 1989, 1991 and 1993 and a two-time USA 800m champion. His most recent honor was being selected by USA Track and Field to serve as an assistant coach to Team USA in the XIIVth Pan American Games that were held in 2003 in Santo

Domingo, Dominican Republic. He coached the men's endurance events under Team USA men's and women's head coaches Fred Harvey of Arizona and Monica Gary of Purdue. Redwine was also inducted into the Arkansas State Hall of Fame in 2003. Redwine earned his bachelor's degree in administrative management from Arkansas in 1985. He and his wife Jacqueline have three children: Crysta (23), Stanley Jr. (20), and Alexa (15).

Doug Clark Assistant Coach Sixth Year At Kansas Central Missouri State, ‘81 Doug Clark begins his sixth year at the University of Kansas as assistant cross country coach and distance coach for the track team. Clark came to KU after six successful seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Tulsa. Clark has worked closely with head coach Stanley Redwine throughout his career, coaching alongside him at both Arkansas and Tulsa. In his five years with the Kansas cross country team, Clark has helped produce six All-Big 12 athletes, three NCAA qualifier's since 2000 (Mark Menefee, Charlie Gruber and Benson Chesang) and the highest conference team finishes since the introduction of the Big 12. In addition, five of his cross country athletes have gone on to win a total of eight All-America honors in track. Clark also played an instrumental role in Benson Chesang's 2004 All-American cross country campaign. During Clark's tenure at Tulsa, he helped produce the first-ever NCAA qualifier and first-ever Western Athletic

conference champion. In addition, Tulsa's men's and women's teams achieved their highest finishes in school history at both the region and conference levels, while several individuals earned all-conference and all-region honors. Prior to coaching at Tulsa, Clark was an assistant at the University of Arkansas from 1988-1993. During that period, Arkansas won four NCAA team championships and produced multiple All-Americans. Clark was an NCAA qualifier athlete at Southwest Missouri State in the late 1970's. He also qualified for the 1980 U.S. Olympic Trials in the marathon with a time of 2:17.40. Clark was the top Masters runner in Oklahoma from 1996 to 2000, posting times of 14:58 (5k), 31:41 (10k) and 25:45 (8k) during that period. In the summer of 2004, Clark traveled to Athens to coach former Jayhawk Charlie Gruber in the 1500m race at the Olympics. He still competes and clocked a 15:48 5k time during the summer of 2002. Clark, 49, is single and resides in Lawrence.

Lew Perkins has served as director of athletics at the University of Kansas since June 2003. He arrived at KU after achieving nationally recognized success as athletics director at the University of Connecticut. Kansas Athletics has experienced tremendous growth and success during Perkins’ short tenure. The football team participated in a bowl game (2003) for the first time since 1995; the men’s basketball team reached the Elite Eight of the 2004 NCAA Championships; the women’s soccer team has appeared in two consecutive NCAA tournaments, reaching the Sweet 16 in 2003; the women’s volleyball team reached the second round of the NCAA Championships in 2003 and 2004, and the softball team reached the NCAA tournament in 2005. The student-athletes in KU's 18-sport program have achieved unprecedented success in the classroom as well, setting records for grade-point averages in each of the last two semesters. Kansas Athletics’ fundraising has reached unprecedented levels; under Perkins, KU’s $27-million athletics budget has grown to nearly $40 million. At Connecticut (1990-2003), Perkins was instrumental in guiding UCONN athletics to impressive growth - athletically, academically and financially. His leadership influenced six NCAA Division I National Championships. He was rewarded in 2000 as the inaugural winner of the National Athletic Director of the Year Award as selected by Street & Smith’s Sports Business Journal, in conjunction with the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). He was lauded for bringing UCONN football to the NCAA Division I-A level, and for convincing the state of Connecticut Legislature to fund a $90-million, 40,000-seat stadium for UCONN, which now competes in the Big East Football Conference. He also was responsible for a multi-million dollar contract for the televising of UCONN’s women’s basketball games.

Perkins has served on two prestigious NCAA committees - the Championships & Competition Cabinet and the Bowl Certification Committee. In Spring 2005 he was named to the Board of Directors of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. A native of Chelsea, Mass., Perkins was inducted into his high school Hall of Fame in 1989. A highly recruited basketball player, he played at the University of Iowa (1965-67) for Hall of Fame coach and KU graduate Ralph Miller. Perkins earned his undergraduate degree there in 1967. Perkins served as director of athletics (1969-80) and head basketball coach (196979) at the University of South Carolina Aiken as that institution grew from a junior college to a four-year institution. He received his master's degree in education (1975) from the University of South Carolina. Perkins delivered the commencement address and received an honorary Doctor of Education degree at USC Aiken in May 2005. Perkins has also served as athletics director at the University of Maryland and Wichita State University, and associate director of athletics at the University of Pennsylvania. Perkins is married to the former Gwen Flaum. Like Lew, Gwen earned an undergraduate degree from Iowa and a master's degree in education from the University of South Carolina. They have two daughters (Amy, husband Brandon Macneill; Holly, husband Tom Halligan) and two granddaughters (Caroline and Alexandra Macneill).

Rim Rock Farm

The University of Kansas hosts its home cross country meets at Rim Rock Farm, northwest of Lawrence. The property, once owned by former head cross country coach and KU Hall-of-Famer Bob Timmons, was donated to the KU Endowment Association this past April. Rim Rock has been KU’s home since the 1974 season-making 2005 the 32nd year the Jayhawks have competed at the course. In addition to hosting the Big Eight Cross Country Championships in 1983, 1991 and 1995, Rim Rock Farm was the site of the 1998 NCAA Division I and II Cross Country Championships, which coincided with the 25th anniversary of the course.

Rim Rock is home to the Kansas State High School Cross Country meet which will be held this year on October 29. KU will also host the Rim Rock High School Classic on September 17. Any runner or spectator will say that the course is quite unusual and challenging. Rim Rock features specific hills, turns and other landmarks that are named after former Jayhawk runners. Runners pass through two covered bridges including a new bridge that was introduced in 2001. Those traveling to Rim Rock from the Kansas Turnpike are advised to take the east Lawrence exit and then travel north on Kansas Highway 24/59 (which curves to the west) for approximately two and one-half miles before turning right (north) on the asphalt road at the Midland Store. Approximately two and one-half miles later, watch for an abandoned natural gas pump station on the right and make a left turn (west) at that point onto a gravel road. About one-quarter of a mile ahead, make a right turn and follow the gravel road approximately one and one-third miles (north) to the course. Maps are available at the cross country office by calling (785) 864-3486 as well as on the website at www.kuathletics.com.

2005 Outlook Cross Country Teams Hunting Championships

K A N S A S C R O S S C O U N T R Y

6

Coach Stanley Redwine has a lot to look forward to as he begins his sixth year at the helm of the University of Kansas cross country program. With a senior laden men's team that also includes one of the top runners in the country, the 2005 team will look to improve on its fourth place finish at the Big 12 Championships a year ago. With seniors Angela Pichardo and Christine Lathrop leading the way, the women's team includes a solid group of sophomores and juniors that is hoping to improve on their 10th and 16th place finishes at last year's Big 12 Championships and NCAA Midwest Regional Championships, respectively. The men's fourth place finish at the NCAA Midwest Regionals tied their performance from the 2003 season, which marked the highest a cross country squad at Kansas had finished since 1994. Redwine has made it clear what he expects from the men's team in their 2005 campaign: "We're definitely looking forward to our men placing in the NCAA Championships as a team. Last year we had a great year with Benson (Chesang). The men were fourth in the Big 12 Championships and we're looking to do better than that in the Big 12 standings as well as looking to get the entire team to the NCAAs." The men's team is coming back loaded after losing five seniors off of last year's Big 12 fourth place squad. The team will be led by one of the strongest runners in the country in junior Benson Chesang (Eldama Ravine, Kenya). Chesang was the top performer for the Jayhawks last year and was also the only KU runner to reach the NCAA Championships for the second year in a row. In addition to being named a 2004 All-American and All-Big 12 runner, Chesang won the Big 12 Championships last year, the first KU runner to win a conference championship since John Lawson in 1965. In all, he finished in the top ten in four of his five races, including an outstanding seventh place finish at the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. In addition to Chesang, the team will also include two talented sophomores in Colby Wissel (Elm Creek, Neb.) and Paul Hefferon (Overland Park, Kan.). Wissel ended last season as the team's number two runner, finishing second on the team at both the Big 12 Championships and NCAA Midwest Regionals. Hefferon also came on strong at the end of the season, finishing a solid 34th at NCAA Midwest Regionals, good enough for fourth on the team. Over the summer, Hefferon won the 5k at the USA Juniors en route to capturing silver at the Junior Pan Am Games in Windsor, Ontario. Also on the team will be a talented group of four seniors and two additional juniors who will all by vying for a spot in the top seven. The seniors include Matt French (Howell, Mich.), Joshy Madathil (Liberal, Kan.), Mike Putzke (New Buffalo, Mich.), and Cameron Schwehr (Colbert, Wash.). French, Schwehr and

Madathil all competed in the Big 12 Championships last season, finishing 27th, 41st, and 43rd, respectively. Putzke will be looking to contribute points for the team in his final year at KU. Erik Sloan (Glenview, Ill.) is entering his junior year of eligibility after coming off a redshirt year where he did not compete in any races. Junior Tyler Kelly (Tulsa, Okla.) ran well last year as a sophomore, finishing 34th in the Big 12 Championships. Kelly was also named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team. Sophomores Nick Brennan (Moraga, Calif.) and Patrick McGowan (Springdale, Ark.) will try and use the team’s early races to earn a spot in the postseason meets. Redwine's goals for the women's team are a bit more modest, but just as clear. "We're going to have a young team this year. Our goal is to be in the top half of the conference. We're looking to have a solid placing at the conference meet and hopefully we'll be able to get some of them to the NCAAs." The women's side will be a young squad led by seniors Angela Pichardo (Hollywood, Fla.) and Christine Lathrop (Overland Park, Kan.). Pichardo had strong finishes in all of last year's races with her best coming at NCAA Midwest Regional Championships where she finished third on the team and 90th overall. Lathrop finished sixth on the team and 83rd overall at last year's Big 12 Championships. In addition to the seniors, the team brings back two gifted sophomores in Connie Abbott (Overland Park, Kan.) and Lisa Morrisey (Ottawa, Kan.), who both placed high in last year's postseason meets. Morrisey finished second on the team and 72nd overall at last season's NCAA Midwest Regional Championships, while Abbott was fourth on the team and 91st overall. Fellow sophomores Hayley Harbert (Shawnee, Kan.), Alicia McGregor (Independence, Mo.), and Melissa O’Rourke (Tulsa, Okla.) will also be competing for a spot in the top seven. Juniors Laura Major (Tulsa, Okla.), Melissa Moody (Smithville, Mo.), and Dena Seibel (Emporia, Kan.) will be asked to take on a greater role for the 2005 season. Major and Seibel were both named to the Academic AllBig 12 First Team last season. Seibel came in fifth on the team and 109th overall at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships. Major's best finish was seventh at the Bob Timmons Invitational. The team's early meets will be a chance for the competitors to prove themselves as they all vie for a position in the postseason races. The 2005 Kansas cross country teams will look for their first conference championships since 1969 and Coach Redwine is optimistic about the upcoming season: "I expect for us to reach our goals. I say that out of all honesty. We're not just trying to aim high and hope to fall wherever we can. We plan on being there. That's the expectations of the athletes, that's our expectations as coaches, and hopefully we'll get there."

Kansas Roots, Global Reach The University of Kansas - fondly known as KU - is a tradition-rich, comprehensive research university that throughout its distinguished history has excelled in creating superior, enduring value for students, the state of Kansas, and the world. KU ranks among the nation's premier public research universities and is a leading center for study in a wide range of fields: the arts and humanities, the sciences, and the professions. Founded by the same determined New Englanders who had emigrated to the Kansas Territory to create a state free of slavery, KU became one of the first universities of the Great Plains. The university opened its doors on Sept. 12, 1866, to 29 men and 26 women. Never in its history has KU restricted admissions based on race or gender. Since its early years, KU has been fueled by high aspirations and today enjoys a national reputation for innovation and academic excellence. In 1890, the first chapters of Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi west of the Mississippi River were chartered at Lawrence. The following year, the KU Endowment Association was established, the first foundation of its kind supporting a state-assisted university. In 1908, KU became one of the first 11 public universities to be admitted to the prestigious Association of

Kansas Quick Facts U.S. News and World Report ranks KU as one of the top 30 public universities for undergraduate academic reputation. KU boasts 26 graduate programs judged as among the top 25 in their discipline in U.S. News' "America's Best Colleges" edition. "With solid academics, outstanding extracurricular programs, winning athletics, and a stellar social life, the University of Kansas is one of higher education's best buys," reports the 2005 Fiske Guide to Colleges. The Fiske Guide has repeatedly awarded KU a four-star rating for academics, social life, and overall quality of university life. Kaplan's Annual National High School Guidance Counselors Survey, Princeton Review's America's Best Value College List and Kiplinger's all have listed KU as a "bestvalue" undergraduate institution.

American Universities. Not to be forgotten: KU initiated interscholastic basketball competition in 1898, under the leadership of Dr. James Naismith, the founder of basketball. With a student body of 29,590 and an endowment with assets of more than $1 billion, KU has become a diversified, broad-based center of learning with professional schools in allied health, architecture and urban design, business, education, engineering, fine arts, journalism and mass communication, law, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and social welfare. KU also has

expanded geographically, adding the Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas; the School of Medicine clinical branch in Wichita; the Edwards Campus in Overland Park; and educational and research facilities throughout the state. World-class, Accessible Education KU faculty members have earned international distinction: 10 have been elected national academy members, 35 are fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and 269 have received Fulbright awards for international study since 1950. Led by the faculty, KU students have achieved an impressive record of major honors: 25 Rhodes, 388 Fulbright, 38 Goldwater, 15 Truman, 13 Udall, and 9 Marshall scholarships; 24 Mellon fellowships; five Javits fellowships; and one Churchill scholarship. KU prepares students for success in an increasingly global economy. Among public universities, KU ranks fourth in the nation for the percentage of its students who study abroad, and 23rd in the nation for the number of graduates serving as Peace Corps volunteers. In 2005, KU was chosen as one of five universities to receive the Paul Simon Award for excellence in and commitment to international education. The attractiveness of KU to outstanding high school graduates is reflected in the current student body - the best-qualified in KU history - based on high school GPA and standardized test scores. Last fall, KU enrolled 57 National Merit scholars (16th among U.S. public universities), five National Hispanic scholars, and four National Achievement scholars.

The Big 12 Conference The Big 12 Conference - Celebrating Its 10th Season

K A N S A S C R O S S C O U N T R Y

The Big 12 celebrates its 10th anniversary season of competition in 2005-06. While there have been many proud accomplishments in the first nine years of the conference, the league and its members are also excited and poised for a bright future. Over the past nine years, 24 different teams and over 200 individuals have won NCAA Championships. This past season marked the most successful in conference history. Baylor won the crown for women's basketball, becoming the first Big 12 squad to win in that sport. Colorado won both the men's and women's cross country trophies, just the fourth school in NCAA annals to win both in the same year. Oklahoma State regained the top spot in wrestling, winning the national title for the 33rd time. Texas captured its fourth women's outdoor track & field crown, along with its sixth national championship in baseball. A total of 23 individual event titles were also claimed by the Big 12. Eight football squads have played in BCS bowls in the last six seasons. The Big 12 leads all conferences with four appearances in the National Championship game. In basketball, an unprecedented eight men's and women's basketball teams have advanced to their respective Final Fours in the past four seasons as the Big 12 continues its place among the elite intercollegiate athletic conferences. The Big 12 and its member institutions are committed to a competitive environment where sportsmanship and fair play take center stage. Whether on the field, in the classroom, or within the community the student-athletes, administrators, coaches and game officials of the Big 12 support the highest ideals in sportsmanship. Competitive excellence, scholarships and sportsmanship are all equal components of the Big 12's philosophy. All-Big 12 teams and All-Big 12 Academic squads are recognized for each sport at the end of their respective seasons. At the end of each academic year, the Conference honors its top male and female student-athletes with the Big 12 Athlete of the Year and Big 12 Sportsperson of the Year awards. Institutions can also nominate student-athletes for the prestigious Dr. Prentice Gautt Postgraduate Scholarships at the end of each academic year. A total of 129 scholars have received more than $680,000 in postgraduate financial aid through the first eight years of the program. The Big 12 sponsors 21 sports. Men's squads include baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, indoor track & field, outdoor track & field, swimming & diving, tennis and wrestling. Women's teams are fielded in basketball, cross country, golf, gymnastics, indoor track & field, outdoor track & field, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis and volleyball. The conference is made up of 12 institutions that have shared many traditional rivalries throughout their histories. Member schools include - Baylor University, University of Colorado, Iowa State University, University of Kansas, Kansas State University, University of Missouri, University of Nebraska, University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University, University of Texas, Texas A&M University and Texas Tech University. The institutions created a league that encompasses seven states, over 42 million people and more than 18 million television households within its geographic footprint. The conference conducts championships for 20 of its 21 sports. Each championship helps to determine teams and/or individuals that will represent the Conference in national postseason competition. The winner of the Big 12 football championship game earns the league's berth into the prestigious Bowl Championship Series. The Big 12 is under the direction of its third commissioner, Kevin L. Weiberg, who took over the reigns in December 1998. Under Weiberg's guidance, the league distributed over $105 million to its member institutions for the 2004-05 academic year, nearly doubling the first allocation of $54 million in the conference's inaugural 1996-97 campaign.
