Nadyne's Diner. Let's give a huge KKL welcome to Nadyne. This gorgeous lady is an amazing, genuinely highly commended chef who is passionate about the Kustom Kulture life.Over to you Nadyne! I love food. I love to cook. But I am still a typical girl and love my chocolate! So let's start with scones. Tripl e Chocol at e Scones!!! 1 and 2/ 3 cups (210g) plain flour 1/ 3 cup (26g) cocoa powder 1/ 2 cup (100g) caster sugar 2 and 1/ 2 teaspoons baking powder 1/ 2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/ 2 teaspoon salt 1/ 2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, frozen 1/ 2 cup + 1 Tablespoon (135ml) heavy cream 1 large egg 1 and 1/ 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 170g chocolate, coarsely chopped Glaze and topping 1 cup (120g) caster sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 Tablespoons (30ml) water (black coffee works too!) 110g, coarsely chopped chocolate Preheat oven to 400F degrees. Adjust baking rack to the middle-low position. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Set aside.
In
a large bowl, whisk the flour, cocoa, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. Grate the frozen butter (I used a box grater; a food processor also works). Toss the grated butter into the flour mixture and combine it with a pastry cutter, your fingers, or two knives until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Set aside. In a small bowl, whisk the cream, egg, and vanilla together. Drizzle it over the flour mixture and then toss the mixture together with a rubber spatula until everything appears moistened. Add more heavy cream, 1 teaspoon at a time, until it comes together, if needed. Slowly and gently fold in the chopped chocolate. Try your best to not overwork the dough at any point. Work the dough into a ball with floured hands (I flour mine with a mix of cocoa powder and flour) as best you can and transfer to the prepared baking sheet. Press into a neat 20cm disc and cut into 8 equal wedges with a very sharp knife. Separate the scones and line them on the baking sheet with a little space between each one. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until cooked through; use a toothpick to check for doneness--a toothpick inserted will come out mostly clean. Remove scones from the oven and allow to cool for just a couple minutes.
Prepare the glaze by whisking the caster sugar, vanilla, and water together until smooth and thin. Dunk warm scones into the water and place on a wire rack with a baking sheet or paper towels underneath to catch the glaze as it drips down. The glaze will set after several minutes, but you can serve right away. Before serving, melt the 110g of chocolate in the microwave in 15 second increments, stirring after each increment until melted. Drizzle over scones. Make ahead tip: Scones are best enjoyed right away, though leftover scones keep well at room temperature for 2 extra days. Scones that have been glazed (or not glazed) freeze well, up to 3 months.
LILY'S STORY. Emma Buckley continues her HQ resto. We took the car home, put it under a gazeebo in our back yard -and that?s where it stayed for 4 years. My parents sold that house and bought acreage and so the HQ followed us. It sat for 4 years?with flat tyres and no battery, we put a battery in it pumped up the tyres and my dad drove it unregistered & unroadworthy to our new land. It got parked in the paddock with a tarp over it and that?s where it stayed. My dad bought another HQ rolling shell that was in etch primer -which of course got put straight away in the shed. It is to date the cleanest, straightest HQ that I have ever come across, there is not one bit of rust or bog? it really is something else. My HQ then became a donor car but the donations never happened? life got in the way for my parents, working full-time, raising young kids, starting businesses - I guess they didn?t have time. I turned 18 and got a boyfriend,.He had a HZ Tonner that he was ridiculously over protective of it . It was a beat up, rusted old one and he wouldn?t ever let me touch it Until one day when he couldn?t get the pin out of the window winder and I showed him how to do it? I don?t know if he was pissed off that a girl showed him up or if he was impressed. After that, I wanted to help him restore the car but he always told me that I wasn?t allowed to and that cars weren?t for girls. After that I walked? and I?m so glad that I did.
I met
someone else and my spark reignited when we were driving in his mum?s HK wagon to a car event? the speedo didn?t work, there was no aircon, the bench seat was tatty and there was no factory left hand side mirror but we didn?t care, we had fun !!I remember the sun setting and us driving around - I felt alive and I felt happy and I wanted my own car. I dreamt that night of listening to my favourite song? Brian Adams 'Summer of 69' while cruising in my own car? . that?s what I think of every time whenever I lose motivation or crack the shits that something isn?t going my way. I asked my dad about getting a car and he said to me ?restoring is a lot of time but save up a bit of cash and I?ll help you find something that you can just drive?so I saved up a bit of money. I rang him one day and asked him if I could have the HQ that was sitting in the front yard instead. He didn?t even let me finish the sentence before saying NO! I remember being so mad, like he had no use for it so why couldn?t I buy it from him ? ..A few days later I asked my dad again . I only found out recently that my mum actually basically used reverse psychology on my dad and said "it will last a week. Let her get bored... Explain how much work there is, show her and involve her and it will change her mind" . I guess that didn?t work .....haha. On 6th April 2014 dad came into my room and said "let's go take a look at this rusted HQ" so we went down to the paddock,&pulled off the tarp, It was rusted to the shithouse but I couldn't stop sitting in it and looking at it.It was the single greatest day of my life to date. I remember the musty wet smell of wet carpet and rusting floors and I thought 'yeah this is it... this is what I want. '
