GRANNY 2 Granny tell me of when you were a little girl. 3 Can’t remember any such things any more nohow. Them laces have come loose again.

2 Thanks to ya. 3 School nights I got to skiing round in circles in the yard and picturing brothers and sisters there around me. It was nothing so wonderful those days.

I’m weary of being old.

I aint some kind of cripple yet, mind ya!

SISTER 1 Hi 3 The more I stay here and ride the public transport the more I feel that all them people here’re just really unhappy. 4 Like today at work a man came in.

1 He was looking all drunkard like and had red fish’s eyes. And I was going oh shit, not again, with us not supposed to sell to drunkards. 2 But then he just comes up to the counter and starts saying “Give me some kind of rubber”. And I don’t get it. 3 He meant condoms. And then he started going on about how he never used to need any of that since he had a wife. But now the woman’s dead and he never had one sober day since then. 4 His eyes just went on getting redder.

1 I said I hope it’s gonna be easier for him soon. Then he just said like how. Cause he was never gonna get his wife back nohow. 2 Did he say how it happened? 3 Car crash 4 He spent a month sitting by her bed at the hospital. The wife had wanted out herself.

1 His friend, a trained nurse or something, had explained it all to him like after the machines are shut down his wife’s going to breath 30 times, no more no less. 2 The man said, hell if he was gonna be able to sit through that and he’d just started running down the corridor and out into the next bar and then gone on from there. 3 It’s been four months since then. He said they’d been together four years. That he’d managed to screw up every possible way. Then he said who’s gonna love him now. 4 Was I supposed to help you some?

1 No we’ll just begin eating now. Would you leave them glasses off while we do? 3 I don’t like the world to be this way.

MOTHER 1 Ville is smudg-ing! 2 D’you hear me?

1 Mo-om! 2 You gonna read to us now? 3 Stoopid. / No you are.

1 We’re off to Granny’s now. / No way. / Yes way. / Why? / Because. 2 And none of your tussle now at all!

1 1 I’m too tired I can’t. / Okay we’ll walk the rest. 2 I’m going to the playhouse! / No we’re all going inside. 3 Well, what a nice surprise.

2 I don’t wanna take a nap. / Now you do as you’re told for a change.

Awake already are ya?

1 Where’s mom? / Stoopid. / You are. / Now button up the both of ya! / I won’t tell you twice. 2 Mom! / Had sweet dreams?

1 Where have these come from? 3 They have always been. 4 Stoopid! / You are!

BROTHER 3 Yeah yeah 4 Thump thump thump 5 ring ring knock knock

1 knock knock / I reckon I could hear you with less effort. 2 Wha? Why won’t it open? 3 Hee hee hee / Right. You bozos. 4 Stay there then if you like. 5 Hi! How’s it going? / Make us some coffee. 6 Ok I guess. Starving. / Then why don’t ya eat?

1 I am! Had to rush. / We said at two. 2 AT THREE! I got home from work at two. / We waited for almost half an hour. 3 You got milk? 4 I only got organic. / YEUCH / Organic means they don’t wash the gadgets. 5 You crazy. / I’m not having any. That’s it. Don’t start. / Have to drink it black. / I’ll have some. 6 Thanks.

1 Pull me up a chair would ya? / Gimme a pen and a piece of paper! 2 And you stop bossing me around! / And YOU best not raise your voice at me! 3 Are you having anything besides coffee and candy? / No. 5 What’s that you’re eating? It STINKS! 6 YEEUUCH!

1 D’ya hear me? What is that? Stinks like hell! / It’s tuna. Spiced tuna. 2 Why is it ya can’t eat normal food? / You stuff all that in yer mouth NOW. You hear me! 3 You fight like that all the time? / Her food sti-inks! / You stink! / Stoopid. 4 What did ya say? / Huh? / STOP IT! 5 OWWW / I’m telling Mom! 6 STOP IT or you gonna get hurt! / OW!

1 AUCH! You broke my neck. / Not even. 2 Will you boys be wanting some more coffee? / Yes! / No. / You make it too strong. 3 These black ones are the best. 4 All gone now. / Here, you can have the second last one. 6 NOOOO! There was one left after all!

1 And you pulled off all my hair too. 2 I’m so disappointed in ya, pal, if you eat that. 3 Lot of things depend on this. 4 Here, it’s yours. 6 YAWN. This place always gets me kinda drowsy.

1 We’re outta here. / Okay. 2 Hey, you’re wearing that shirt inside out! 3 What are ya, some kinda hippie now? / I had to change in a rush! 4 Was nice of you to drop by. 5 Bye then! / Bye! 6 Take care. / I wrote down the address for ya so you can look at them photos of when we were in Thailand.

FATHER 1 You given these two permission to start eating in them Sunday clothes? / We’ll be getting ready come day after tomorrow! / FATHER drives a fire engine and a red BMW. 2 And this one in her SNOW-WHITE dress sitting in all the dirt and shit. / God-damit! / He hates shittypants – 3 About time we got going. / – and waiting.

1 Anna and Ville to the other side. / And watch the car. / First he gives a first warning 2 You reckon we’re coming back for ya later? / Then he gives a second 3 You mean you don’t plan to be coming along at all? / And the third one means business.

1 I bet ya don’t. / At times life does feel like 2 an endless countdown. 3 There’s no monkeying around there for sure.

1 Well now, Himma’s gone to town too! / That’s why it sorta beats me – 2 Dad goes out. / – how is it that I have – 3 – a brother and sister like them two. 4 They never seem to learn.

1 All the time they’re just 2 such babies, so impossible 3 and such boneheads. 4 Damnation! / One’s got his head split as is and the other’s half naked. / You don’t be about thinking much do you. / They both don’t give a hoot.

1 Be good now. / But Mom says – 2 I was thinking we get the shoes for the older girl. And you want us to take your flowers while we’re at it? /– that each of us is perfect – 3 I’m not gonna pick ya up now. / – in their – 4 I’m telling ya. Won’t be carrying you around. / – own way.

1 … she wouldn’t come now would she… she… we had some dispute. With me having worked the night again and all… I … so we had a bit of a row. / It’s my mother’s birthday after all and Lord knows how many more there’s gonna be now. / Annukka, you start trying on the shoes. / And that each and every one of us – 2 You try on darker color instead. /– deserves – 3 Now you play along with this! A bit more initiative. / – a second chance.

1 You put all yer weight on yer feet while yer aunt does the measuring! / Then Mother also says that – 2 Well? / How’s it feel? / Tight around the toes? / – some things – 3 She’s being such a cool missy nowadays, she’s too cool to answer. / Why is it that they got to be white? It’s not like they’re gonna STAY white. / – you won’t get till you’re grown up.

1 What the hell’s the matter now! / Father reckons that if I hit my brother now – 2 How many times have I been telling you about all that? / That it’s no use stepping on his toes on purpose! /- while he’s still smaller than me – 3 And you! Don’t ya dream about leaving them on! / We’re going to a party. / - so then when he grows –

1 Now then. / We’ll be waiting nicely while yer aunt goes to get the flowers. / - he’ll hit me back, to get even. 2 That’s why as the older one – 3 Those were good shoes you picked. No use taking the kind you don’t like. / - it pays off to know – 4 Ville, hold the door open. / - how to behave.

1 OWWWW DA-AD / So it goes that our fights are always settled with – 2 Now you see, yer sister paid back for you punching her. /- being good now – 3 And now be quiet the both of ya. / - and not fighting anymore. 4 But it’s not like them deals ever held before.

1 Times when daddy just gets so tired like you wouldn’t believe. / There’s no one on earth that can always manage everything – 2 - and still you wish nothing but the very best for your own kids. 3 Well. / So it’ll be Annukka then who dresses Emma and remembers when we are there to bring back a piece of cake for Mom. / She never cared for them pies.
