Sylvia Jackson Chair, Canadian Angus Foundation Welcome to the sixth Building the Legacy fundraiser auction! “The future is in our hands.” A statement often made, with much truth in it. The Canadian Angus Foundation is offering boundless opportunities for you to obtain new genetics, great experiences or unique artwork in return for your financial support. This is a win-win situation where the CAF continues to offer opportunities to Angus youth to fast track their future. I invite you to take part in this sale in support of the Foundation. This year is unique since the CAF is sending the following 12 Angus Juniors to attend the World Angus Forum in Scotland from June 21 to July 2: Team Canada Aspire: Meghan McGillvray, BC; Cole Dodgson, AB; Macy Liebreich, SK; Kelly Somerville, ON Team Canada Believe: Michaela Chalmers, ON; Travis Hunter, AB; Wade Olynyk, SK; Kelsey Ribey, ON Team Canada Courage: Katie Wright, SK; Maguire Blair, SK; Bailey Dietrich, AB; Raina Syrnyk, MB. We know they will be great ambassadors for Canada and wish them good luck in the youth events! Doug and Linda Henderson are working on our Angus History project. Your Angus history is in your HANDS. Please record it and send it to Angus Central for inclusion. Time is running OUT! As well, we encourage families to donate historical Angus artifacts to our archives at Angus Central. A tremendous thank you to Shawn Birmingham, CAA and CAF director, for soliciting and coordinating this great offering in the 2017 CAF Building the Legacy fundraiser auction hosted by the Manitoba Angus Association in Brandon on June 10, 2017. On behalf of the Foundation, I thank the numerous and most generous individuals, donors, volunteers and buyers who support the Foundation in our constant effort to continue to grow our Angus legacy.

David Sibbald President, Canadian Angus Association This sale has become one of the most highly anticipated Angus events. The generous support from our breed leading members and industry partners has contributed to the success of our Canadian Angus Foundation’s initiatives. This year again many of our elite herds have offered up one-of-a-kind genetic combinations representing their dedication and passion for the Angus breed. Alongside is the support of our industry friends and family whose commitment to the Angus breed is unwavering. Without this commitment and dedication, our Canadian Angus Foundation could not support the programs that are a crucial component of our Angus future… our Junior Angus members. Over the years the growth and support of this program has been outstanding. So to the consignors, bidders and buyers... THANK YOU. Your contributions do make a difference and have an immense impact on our future.

Rob Smith

CEO, Canadian Angus Association

Please join us on Saturday night, June 10th, at 8:00 p.m. Central Time. It’s hard to imagine we’ve done FIVE Building the Legacy fundraiser auctions already! And even harder to believe that we have raised more than $550,000 for the objectives of our Canadian Angus Foundation. Because of the generosity of our donors and buyers, we are doing cool things like opening the world to our outstanding Canadian Angus youth. The 12 outstanding young people we are sending to the World Angus Forum Youth Programme in Scotland are going to make these young Angus enthusiasts realize how big our Angus world actually is, and what an influential role Canada plays in its historical, current and future development. Because of this experience, I expect many of these youth are going to try and breed a world-famous bull or cow in the coming years. As our Foundation investments rise, we are able to look more toward research and development projects to assist with the science involved with raising superior Angus cattle in Canada. Our great American counterparts lead the world in seedstock science in large part because of their Foundation support and I’m excited for the day to come when we are able to do the same. Our focus and priority to date has been youth opportunity but I believe the Foundation Board feels we need to look deeper at science so hopefully that will increase in the coming year. If you look at the donations in ‘BtL6’, you will see that our members are still providing ‘the best of the best’. Herd picks from Hamco! Merit! WRAZ! Eastondale! Anderson! What great folks the Hamilton, Liebreich, Birnie, Easton and Anderson families are. How about that special embryo inventory ‘pick’ from the McRae family of Mar Mac? Or the hunting trip to South Africa from PJ Budler, that great friend of Canadian Angus? Or the very rare and highly valuable artist’s proof of “The Red Angus” from Scotland’s James Arnott? Or that amazing Calgary Stampede/Triple S Red Angus donation, combining ‘The Greatest Outdoor Show On Earth’ with a day at the Sibbald’s ranch and access to their embryo inventory or semen tank? Our fraternity—our members, partners, stakeholders—never cease to amaze me. And, I suspect, they never will. That is because they are, every single year, continuing to ‘build the legacy’. Canada’s ANGUS legacy!

Hamco

Your pick

of the entire Red or Black 2017-born heifer calves From the moment we knew National Convention was coming back to Manitoba in 2017, there was one clear path for us with respect to our Foundation’s Building the Legacy fundraiser: we would pursue a Pick-of-the-Herd Heifer Calf from one of Canada’s largest herds: Hamco Cattle Co. The Hamilton families of Glenboro, MB have ‘stepped up’ in a major way by allowing you to select the BEST of their calendar year calves, from approximately 300 Red Angus and 250 Black Angus cows. Hamco has been developed through aggressive use of embryo transfer and A.I., striving to produce strong functional cattle that perform well and are problem-free. The foundation of their herd are top donor cows purchased from several superior seedstock herds in Canada and the U.S. The Hamilton families are huge believers in continuous selection and culling based on performance as well as maximizing information so you are wisely selecting from a large and very elite herd. This is one of the most exciting ‘picks’ we’ve been offered and going through this herd will be an honour and pleasure! Their program focuses on performance and desirable carcass traits while maintaining calving ease, high conversion rates, maternal strength, easy fleshing ability and Angus vigour at birth. If phenotype is important to you, selecting from over 200 calves will optimize this opportunity.

Hamco held their 19th annual bull sale this year, and it was a great one, selling over 150 bulls, one of Canada’s largest. Hamco focuses on commercial cattlemen and their bulls are very successful. Albert and Glen Hamilton and their families manage both the cattle herd and a large grain and alfalfa hay operation. They sell hay throughout Manitoba and into the United States. David is a veterinarian and partner in the Morden Veterinary Clinic. David and Shelley also own and operate Embryo Genetics Ltd., a full-service embryo transfer company providing ET services throughout Manitoba, southeastern Saskatchewan and northern North Dakota. The Hamiltons also serve our industry: Larissa is the Manitoba Angus President and David is President of the Canadian Embryo Transfer Association (CETA/ACTE) Board of Directors. If you choose a black heifer, you will be selecting from a group that includes daughters of Young Dale Xcaliber 32X. Or the progeny of S A V Resource 1441 and Angus Valley 1867 and more of the continent’s most popular and progressive A.I. sires. If you pursue their red program, you will look at some outstanding outcross daughters from the best of Canada and the United States with strong influences from SSS, Wildman, Brylor, Lazy MC and Towaw as well as Bieber, R.A. Brown, Andras and Croissant genetics. This is what Col. Brent Carey has to say about the Hamco operation: “I have the distinct privilege to travel to the bull pens of many of our country’s finest stock producers, and without a doubt the 2017 offering at Hamco is one of the most complete and consistently made set of Angus bulls, both red and black, that will sell in western Canada this spring. The secret behind uniformity in a bull pen is the mothers of those same bulls. Over the years the cow herd has developed into a cookie-cutter set of cows that are highly productive and very sound.” Doesn’t that sound like the kind of female you want to bring into your operation to produce your next ‘great one’? Thanks to Hamco for making this opportunity, and for supporting our Foundation.

Merit

Your pick

of the Merit 2017-born heifer calves

Last year, Trent Liebreich told me his family would make a ‘special’ donation to “Building the Legacy 6” in Brandon. I had no idea it would be THIS special! We do not target Canadian Angus members for a Pick-of-the-Herd heifer calf when they have Junior-age kids who I expect would want the ‘first choice’ for their project. Although they have three Juniors, the Liebreich family is so committed to supporting our Foundation that this year, the Merit Junior Division will have to take the 2nd, 3rd and 4th picks because YOU get the 1st! Merit Cattle Co.—Trent, Janelle, Macy, Garrett and Carson Liebreich—have been raising Angus cattle for over 30 years, since 1984, and are passionate about it! The Merit herd consists of 200 registered Angus females and is very much a ‘grassroots’… and family… outfit… who live their motto “quality genetic alternatives” each and every day. Merit collaborates with Cockburn Red Angus on a joint bull sale in Moose Jaw (next: Monday, March 26th, 2018) and it has become one of our nation’s strongest sales, proving so again in 2017. This means that you are catching the “pick” opportunity from Merit at a time when they are ‘burning’ two of the hottest ‘fires’ in our nation: their bull sale has become one of the most influential and successful for both commercial and fellow purebred producers while the females they have brought out for public inspection have proven among the very best at major stock shows like Canadian Western Agribition in Regina, our largest exhibition. And yet the ‘heat’ behind Merit is not of particular interest to them because they’re just doing what they have done for decades: raising functional, productive, profitable Angus cattle. Their environment in southern Saskatchewan is one of extremes, with little to no natural protection from the elements. Their cattle have to function and produce in this tough environment. Fleshing ability, depth, foot structure, udder quality, hair and eye appeal are extremely important traits to the Liebreichs; these come first and foremost before numbers and data. Good paperwork and numbers are important also, and Merit strives for balance in these areas as well... no extremes! Raising seedstock is the passion and commitment for the Liebreich family. The philosophy at Merit has always been simple... better cows make better bulls. Their mission has always been to consistently produce the best seedstock for their environment. The Merit program is just that... a program. It is not built around the ‘flavour of the month’. More progress is made by not making costly mistakes than by chasing the latest fad in search of one ‘home run’. The middle of the road keeps you on a path with purpose and you only have to move over to keep from getting hit. Their motto is “Moving forward is progress.” And this donation allows you to move forward with one of our nation’s most reputable and proven Angus programs. Selection to be made no later than October 1, 2017. The Liebreichs enjoy getting together with their customers and are constantly seeking new genetics to improve their amazing cow herd. Any member of the family operation would love to visit with you about your ‘Pick’ of their exciting 2017 heifer calf crop and learn more about their program as well as your program. This amazing family enjoys discussing all aspects of the industry with the great people involved in it. Finally, the Liebreichs operate by a “Herd Bull Must Have Checklist” for which the #1 ‘must have’ is an “Exceptional Mother”. This shows you their focus and their priority. Now, to take your choice out of that benchmark group of 2017-born females to have as your own? Talk about value…

WRAZ

Your pick

of the WRAZ 2017-born heifer calves Anyone who knows Phil Birnie knows that he is about the kindest, friendliest fellow anyone can ever know. And his dedication to Angus cattle and Angus causes is profound. When you ask Phil for or to do anything, the answer is an immediate and unequivocal “yes”. So when BtL6 Chair Shawn Birmingham asked him for this massive donation, he said, in typical Phil style, “I’d like to do that for our Angus family.” WRAZ Red Angus is a 4th generation operation with their kids representing the 5th. They currently crop 1,200 acres and calve 200 purebred Red Angus females on a land base of 2,560 acres, so you will be selecting from around 100 heifer calves born this year.

The Birnie Family Farm was established in 1907 and is now designated as a “Century Family Farm”. In keeping with this tradition of longevity, stewardship and entrepreneurialism, the WRAZ program—led by Phil & Lana Birnie, Kassandra, Rueben, Hannah and Azaria—has never spared time or expense to pursue the very best genetics to grow their herd and support those who support them. Phil’s commercial bull and purebred female buyers’ priorities are his absolute priorities as well. WRAZ’s focus on genetic diversity and production efficiency means that those are paramount traits in Phil’s selection criteria, searching across Canada and the United States in order to ‘match’ and ‘stack’ bloodlines and pedigrees. And you will find the ‘best of the best’: Brylor, McMillen, Ter-Ron, Mar Mac, Duralta, Moose Creek and daughters of daughters from the outcross and growth performance ‘specialist’ Red VRRA Top Star Y236, one of Phil’s greatest acquisitions ever. And they SELL them, too! The annual WRAZ “Cornerstone–More Bang for your Buck” bull and commercial female sale is held the third Saturday in April each year at Saskatchewan’s Whitewood Auction Mart. The first Saturday of April features the annual Birnie family Open House at their Wawota-based ranch, allowing customers to pre-select their bulls and females as well as evaluate the sires and dams when current calves are at foot. Finally, Phil collaborates with Sheldon Kyle, Kenray Ranch, on the “Pride of the Prairies” female sale for which the 2nd edition will take place on December 9th, 2017 at Saskatoon Livestock Sales. One condition: your selection needs to happen BEFORE September 1st, since that is when Phil needs to determine his “Pride of the Prairies” female production sale consignments. We do not typically try and secure a ‘Pick’ from Canadian Angus producers who sell heifer calves in the fall through public auction, but we just wanted a WRAZ genetic opportunity for you so badly that we broke from our tradition. And Phil, as you might expect, allowed us the opportunity… to create what is going to become an extraordinary opportunity for you. I suspect you will like the Maria cow family from WRAZ, or maybe the Serebl or Roxie females. Ask Kevin Blair how much he’s liking Red WRAZ Serebl 2D, purchased last year at the legendary Red Round-Up. Or Red WRAZ Maria 18C, who calved this spring for new owners Dersta Farms. WRAZ females are just like Phil: dependable, low maintenance and always rising to the top. Our Hamco BtL6 donors think so much of the WRAZ program that you will find WRAZ genetics coursing through the pedigrees at Hamiltons as well as walking their pastures. Phil’s bulls and females flat work wherever they go and you can select his ‘best of 2017’ to come to work for you!

Eastondale

Your pick

of the Eastondale 2017-born heifer calves

I couldn’t be more excited to share about the historic Eastondale Angus program, benevolent donors of a Pick-of-the-Herd Heifer Calf. Team Easton is known for their successful annual bull sale and selling a selection of heifers. But the opportunity to walk into this highly maternal cow herd to select their best heifer calf is an extraordinary opportunity. If you can’t find a ‘great one’ here, I don’t know where you will find one. Eastondale Angus—Dale, Shelly, and Erika—are proud of their Angus heritage. Angus cattle have been a part of the Easton family for over 60 years with Dale’s father and grandfather both raising black cattle under the Kenwaw farm name. Over 25 years ago, Dale and Shelly started Eastondale Angus and now run 150 purebred black cows and breed 180 head annually on a land base of 1,600 acres. Eastondale shows cattle annually at Agribition and have been there since its start. Their philosophy is a little different, however: winning a class is great, but is not their highest priority. They aim to have their cattle looking honest and ‘real world’ in the barns and focus on meeting with past, present and future customers. This effort has obviously worked because, since the creation of ‘The Yards’ at Agribition and the Eastons move to that exhibition format, their bulls have been consistently the most successful in the pen show of ALL breeds. This spring marked the “10th On The Farm” bull sale for Eastondale and, true to form, it was another successful venture. They also sell females in Agribition’s Masterpiece sale and are ‘founding members’ of the “Touch of Class” sale in Saskatoon every December (one of my favourite sales in Canada) where they have enjoyed extreme success, as have the buyers of their top flight genetics. The cow herd at Eastondale Angus is entirely focused on the maternal qualities the Angus breed has been noted for: fertility, udder quality, maternal instincts, longevity and middle-of-the-road frame scores. Dale believes the evolution of Eastondale sees the herd now made up of its most consistent, moderate framed females ever. They have done some embryo work in the past, notably flushing their GDAR Forever Lady 9136 cow. 9136 has had a significant impact on our breed in Canada, and certainly in the Easton’s herd. Her impact is profound, and includes granddaughter VK 133B who sold to BarE-L from “Touch of Class” ’15 as a heifer bred to Coleman Charlo 0256 for $20,000. And you can pick a Forever Lady! Or a Gammer. Or a Lady Whitney. Or a Blackbird. Or a Duchess. Or a Countess. Or a Mayflower. The choice is entirely yours! This donation comes from a long-serving Saskatchewan Angus Director (and Past President) who now sits on the Canadian board. Further, it also comes from one of our most active former Junior members and past Canadian Angus Foundation Robert C. McHaffie Junior Ambassador. This family believes in community, industry and fraternity service and we are all better for it. Both Dale and Erika will be the best consultants to advise you on your selection. I can’t see how you could possibly make an error in selecting from this, one of Canada’s most impressive cow herds. One of Eastondale’s objectives is to challenge their customers and friends to “challenge your cow herd”. To “make them work for you and enjoy the bright future that our beef industry has to offer”. It has been a ‘bright’ past for Eastondale Angus and this donation can be a huge part of YOUR future.

Anderson

Your pick

of the Anderson 2016-born bred heifers We switch now from a Pick-of-the-Herd Heifer Calf to a Pick-of-the-Herd Bred Heifer! Team Anderson is allowing you to come and select from their entire pasture filled with the over 60 heifers that have ‘made the cut’ to become seedstock-producing females. Anderson Cattle Company (ACC)—Bruce and Ione, Austen and Katie and Breanna—is a family owned operation based at Swan River, MB. They are part of a legendary family that has been raising purebred Angus for 75+ years. ACC’s bi-generational operation maintains four primary BELIEFS: 1) constantly improving their cow herd by using the best genetics in Canada; 2) standing behind their customer 100%; 3) working together as a family; and, 4) being environmental stewards to their land.

The ACC Canadian family history goes back to the 19th century. Alexander and Agnes Anderson were married in Dublin, Ireland. They immigrated from Aberdeen, Scotland (here the Anderson homestead still stands) to Carberry, MB, living there for several years before moving to Swan River in 1898. Alexander was frustrated with the sandy soil in Carberry and traveled north in search of better land. He carried wheat in his chest pocket and planted it in the Swan River Valley. He returned in the fall and was satisfied to see that it had filled out well and not been killed off by frost, so they purchased their original land as part of the federal Homestead Act. Over 100 years later, the Anderson family farms in the same valley and strives to live by the same principles. In 2011, we recognized Anderson Cattle Company as ‘the fruit of the tree’ created by the family’s Mountain View Farms, presenting them with our Canadian Angus Association 75-Year Heritage Award. This cow herd is productive, hardy and prolific. Since Austen’s return, his off-farm career as a teacher (Katie also teaches full time) requires that their cows do most of the work “on their own”. Anderson’s herd is bred to self-care and calve, absent of management. They also held their 8th annual bull sale this spring which has seen increasing success every year. ACC exhibited at Yorkton Harvest Showdown, Agribition and Manitoba Ag Days this past year and are proud and encouraged by the reaction to and evaluation of their stock. They have earned and enjoyed notable success in the Agribition Pen Show. Heifers are sired by: Red - Red D-Bar Dynamo 67Y; Red ACC Dynamo 11B; Red WRAZ Swayze 146B; Red WPRA Legacy 314A; Black Crescent Creek Rito 79A; PA Fortitude 2500. This is the nation’s largest selection of Red Tibbies, and you’ll find multiple Annies, Heathers and Valentines. For blacks, you’ll find Daisys, Heathers, Joannas and Tibbies. Anderson’s program is a Canadian leader in black-based, outcross red pedigrees through their extensive red-factor program. The red heifers are AI’d to Red Blair’s West Power Up 1B (see semen selling later in this sale!) for January 1 calving and are exposed to Red ACC Pacesetter 158D, brother to Anderson’s high-selling bull this year. The black bred heifers are bred to KR Cash 4003 and PA Fortitude 2500, covered by Crescent Creek McCoy 174. Summer 2015 saw a true ‘royal’ Canadian Angus wedding as (2011 Canadian Angus Foundation Robert C. McHaffie Junior Ambassador) Austen Anderson ‘took a bride’ (from none other than the historic Crescent Creek Angus!) when Katie Olynyk said “I do” to her former fellow Canadian Junior Angus board member. I love this story, and know that Austen and Katie, along with Breanna, competitor on our New Zealand World Angus Forum Youth Challenge team and University of Saskatchewan Master’s Candidate, will be writing Canadian Angus history for decades to come. And, by selecting from this exceptional group of bred heifers, you will be able to write some of your own ‘history’. Remember… with a bred heifer, you are a full year closer to being able to realize direct profitability from this ‘Pick’ since her calf is coming in about eight months from right now. What a donation from the Andersons! What a way to ‘give back’! And what a great opportunity for YOU!

Tanya Belsham and her Poplar Meadows family from Houston, BC have been enormous supporters of our Building the Legacy series and she’s done it again in 2017 with this choice from two of her benchmark cows matched with among her most notable sires yet, both live imports from her considerable touring and inspection of top and, sometimes, less well-known American herds. Please note the Manitoba connection: 2S comes from Botany Angus’ Lyall Edgerton and 313U is none other than an MVF female, a product of the legendary Mountain View Farms Ltd. operation. The direct EXT daughter, 2S, was a successful show cow who adorns the wall at Angus Central in all her awesome broodiness; visitors who look at her picture on the Regional Showcase comment that she is ‘the model Angus cow’. Matched with Aviator, you get curve-bending low BW and top 15% WW, top 5% YW and a match of +22 Milk. 313U, dam of 2015 undefeated Show Bull of the Year PM Thunderstruck 22’13, is matched with the 2015 Agribition RBC Supreme Champion Bull whose semen donation last year in BtL5 brought $400/straw to… Swan Hills Ranch from Swan River, MB! Now here is a cool deal. A VERY cool deal! Cudlobe Farms, longtime supporters of Building the Legacy, are coming up on 50 years of Canadian Angus membership. They’ve been breeding cattle for a long time and are one of our nation’s most reputable operations. Every once in a while they ‘pop up’ with a red one, including that herd sire a few years ago at Six Mile. In 2010, David had a red heifer calf from allblack genetics, so she is exceptionally rare. Since then, David has bred her black, sold the odd calf out of her and retained a daughter. Because she is an impressive cow phenotypically with strong BW, Milk and TM EPDs, David wanted to do something with her. So he flushed her to a very exciting American semen sire with no current Canadian progeny. With his WW measure in the top 17% and YW in the top 11%, Nexus balances the EPDs of these resultant offspring. Further, a top 4% for REA highlights a very interesting carcass evaluation. Please note the longevity and excellence bred into 181X. Her dam produced 10 natural calves, including three daughters still delivering in David’s herd, including donor 114S. And 181X’s 365-sired father, Stockman 24H, with 174 registered offspring, has been “Designated Elite since 2006”. So all that Black Angus proof… in a RED package! There are only two of these embryos because they are so rare. But I believe the outcome, as red as these calves will be, could put you about as ‘in the black’ as you can imagine.

If you were going to start a herd of purebred Red Angus anywhere in the world, the majority of wizened cattlefolk would recommend you start with a group of Red Towaw Indeed 104H daughters. Here is a great one, folks: 93N. The Serebls at Six Mile are among the very best of this wickedly good cow herd at Fir Mountain, SK, and Lyall Edgerton of Botany Angus invested in 93N quite a few years ago now. Lyall choose Fully Loaded as a sire to flush 93N to, and it proved a prolific result. All these years later, we have five embryos that Lyall is sharing with us to help in ‘building the legacy’ of our Canadian Angus Foundation.

The matings are pretty amazing as well: one embryo by 481T and two embryos by 0256. Now, I think the Coleman Charlo 0256 matings should elevate the value of this great donation: the four top selling bulls at Schaff Angus Valley (SAV) this spring where, each one, sired by Charlo and brought, together, over $2 million! Further, the $20,000 bred heifer Eastondale sold to Bar-E-L in December 2015 at ‘Touch of Class’ was bred to Charlo. Mar Mac does not flush just ‘any cow’; these are proven genetics that have raised bulls who top their (and others’!) bull sale, as well as females in both the Mar Mac herd and other herds too. The black donor cows all go back to the Brittany/Bridget cow family. This cow family was the founding female of McRae’s black herd and they have seven generations of females of this lineage. All of the matings have produced top-selling bulls in each of the past three years. 25Y x LT Driven are full siblings to Mar Mac Blueprint 56B, 2015 high selling bull to Blairs.Ag with sons sold in 2017 to Wayne and Rhonda McPhail and Kembar Farm. 9T has a number of high selling sons to Larry Heinrich, Black Hawk Angus, Rankins, Joe Bouchard and females at home at Mar Mac. For red options, the Kerry, Ruby and Bonita cow families are among Mar Mac’s elite. 65X x Capacity are full siblings to the 2016 Agribition Reserve Senior Heifer Calf Champion. 65X is also dam of the $24,000 Ribeye daughter in Mar Mac’s 2015 “New Generation Female Sale”. 10T x Zeppelin are full siblings to Red Mar Mac Debut, 2nd high seller in the 2017 Mar Mac Farms bull sale to Shiloh Cattle Company. 10T is a consistent producer with a number of top-producing daughters in Mar Mac’s herd. The 61R x Detour embryos are deep in calving ease genetics, one of which is at Terry and Stacey Hunts. Triple S Cattle Co. Calgary Stampede, Ranch Tour and Genetic Progress Experience including dinner at The Lazy S—Sunday, July 16th, 2017—and a full herd tour the next day with your choice of a package of 3 embryos or 10 straws of semen (only DBB 651D excluded) What a package-for-two from our Canadian Angus President and his family of Triple S Red Angus! Situated in the Alberta foothills of the Rocky Mountains, Triple S Red Angus—the Sibbald family: David and Mary Beth, Dylan and Karissa, and Adam—is a family ranching operation dedicated to raising superior Red Angus seedstock cattle since 1972.

The Sibbalds are also a family of community and industry service. David has been a volunteer at the Calgary Stampede for many years, and is now its President and Chairman of the Board. Through this connection you have the first part of the Triple S donation! Sunday, July 16th, 2017 is better known as “Showdown Sunday—Rodeo’s Richest Afternoon” at The Greatest Outdoor Show On Earth, the Calgary Stampede. This is the finals of the “The world’s best rodeo” and its $2+ million contest, starting at 1:15 p.m. You will then go to “The Lazy S” for ‘Dinner with Dylan’, the next generation of Triple S leadership and cattle breeding prowess. The ‘half-mile of hell’ comes your way next at 7:45 p.m. with the GMC Rangeland Derby chuckwagon finals. Finally, the TransAlta Grandstand Show takes the western culture of the Stampede and mashes it together with all the athletics, artistry, pomp, flair and ceremony of ‘the best of Broadway’, capped off with the most spectacular fireworks display you will ever see. And, for all of this, you will have THE BEST SEATS IN THE HOUSE! On Monday, you will make the short trip west of Calgary, heading into the majestic Rocky Mountains, to spend the day touring Triple S. You will see some very impressive cows grazing Alberta’s ranch lands. Finally, you will have the opportunity to take your pick from the full Triple S frozen embryo (3 eggs) and semen inventory (10 straws, save for from this year’s record high seller at $120,000: DBB 651D). Through 30+ years of breeding Red Angus cattle, they have found that “biggest” isn’t always “best” when trying to maintain a large cow herd. Matching inputs with performance and growth is the key to developing a profitable herd. The SSS breeding program focuses on an integrated balance of all economically important traits demanded by the beef cattle industry. They have made a longterm commitment to producing predictable Red Angus females and bulls that combine maternal instinct, calving ease and beef carcass traits with optimal growth performance. All of these traits are included in an attractive, eyeappealing package. Triple S cattle are regarded globally for their muscling, volume, capacity and ability to convert roughage profitably, repeatedly producing generations of cows with “real value” for the producer, packer and consumer. I don’t know how you will be able to sleep the night between these two extraordinary days. Honestly... I’m not sure how you will be able to sleep from now through then for the excited anticipation of the entertainment, the fellowship, the hospitality and, of course, your ‘frozen’ selection from among the most esteemed Red Angus genetics ever. You know that internet meme that always ends with the word “PRICELESS”? That is how I describe this incredible, nonrepeatable donation to BtL6. Day ONE of the experience is something very few people will do in their lifetimes. Day TWO is something very few others have enjoyed the benefit of as well. Triple S Cattle Co. • The Sibbald Family donated by 403-850-7736 (David) • redbulls@sssredangus.ca Putting the two of them together in one package? I gotta say it... PRICELESS...

One of the most exciting bulls in Canada last fall of ANY breed was EF Titan 545. We started hearing about him when he was named Supreme Champion Bull at Expo Boeuf in Victoriaville, Quebec last Thanksgiving. Then many in the stands at our National Show at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto ‘turned their heads’ to look at this stout and stylish young sire from the Enright family—Barry and Jane, Robert and Lauren, Sean and Kathryn—of Renfrew, ON. He made more friends at the largest stock show in Canada—Regina’s Canadian Western Agribition— where he was named Grand Champion Black Angus Bull and his dominance continued through the RBC Supreme two days later when he became the ‘unofficial’ Canadian Supreme Champion Bull. He is also our National Gold Show Program Junior Champion Bull for 2016. This Harvester son is a dominator! Looking beyond the phenotype and show record, Titan is just as impressive genotypically. His dam’s pedigree includes Lutton. A few years ago, my nephews told me that, from their experience working for Express, the Lutton offspring were among the best they’d ever seen. Titan also shows massive performance, ranking in the Top 10% for growth and TM while still being in the top third for Milk. He is a colossal red meat machine, just as his genetics predict. Canada’s top show bull last fall… and his genetic influence is now yours for the taking! donated by Enright Farms • The Enright Family

Heritage Canadian Angus members Roger and Jo Hillestad—Ebon Hill Farms—have ‘dug deep’ to come up with another ‘heritage’ donation to our Foundation. They are ‘turning back time’ to 1972 and one of the most influential Angus bulls of the 70s produced by one of the most influential programs in Angus history. The first operation to export genetics BACK to our ‘mother country’ of Scotland in 1971, Southolm Angus became one of the most notable Angus producers on the planet, and 50D proved them ‘at the top of their game’. Frank Slezina and family campaigned him very successfully and he would conclude his show career as the 1973 Grand and Supreme Champion Bull at Toronto’s Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. 50D was an important sire in the ‘Pioneer’ Highland program when Rob Matthews was Alberta Angus Association President. Proving that “everything old is new again”, the renowned FairView Ranch at Melville, Montana, have bred back to Bar Lad, offering four popular sons in 2016. Their high seller was FairView Bar Lad 4222, Lot 80, for $20,000 to Banner Angus—John and Millie Boake (nee Slezina!)—right here in Canada! And another one, 4218, sold to Diamond D Angus of Valier, Montana. Minburn Angus, Lookout Stock Farm and Glen Islay have all revisited 50D in recent years. For a dose of proven Canadian Angus foundation genetics, Roger and Jo are giving you something to really think about.

One of the biggest donations ever to our Foundation was the 2013 ‘Pick Of The Herd’ Heifer Calf from Young Dale Angus for $15,500 to Poplar Meadows. Young Dale is back with Hi Definition semen, the first time we’ve been able to link you with this outstanding sire. As a later spring-born bull, we were all surprised when Young Dale brought 185B to Brandon in 2015. He would ‘rock on’ for the rest of his show career, winning Grand Champion two years in a row at Manitoba Ag Ex as well as Regina’s Agribition in 2015 as a young yearling. Perhaps the most remarkable feat Hi Definition achieved in the show ring, however, was being named to the RBC Supreme Top 10 TWO YEARS IN A ROW! I can only count a few bulls on one hand that have ever done so and Hi Definition is one of this select few! 185B’s EPDs are very balanced. And on the dam side? An outcross to virtually every Canadian. Please note this Hamco female is rare in herds across the country because Hamco seldom markets females. 417T has two strongly producing daughters at Young Dale, and has ‘hit’ every year herself. So that outstanding Hamco ‘Pick’ that leads this fundraiser auction could bring you a sire as valuable as Hi Definition! How about this… why not buy the Hamco ‘Pick’ and this semen as well? I think that is an absolute dream combination! Just having the chance to offer Hi Definition 185B is still pretty dreamy…

One of the most exciting bulls to sell last spring in Canada is this stud, bred by none other than our BtL6 Chair, Shawn Birmingham of TSN Angus just outside of Brandon! Astute lifelong cattlemen Brian Bouchard found 73C and had to have him, so a deal was made including the outstanding Delorme Ranch family at Robsart, SK. 73C is now part of the ORIgen bull battery, so you should consider getting on the ‘Order Of Duty train’ because it’s really gaining speed! This is a big ribbed, easy fleshing son of the popular and demanded R B Active Duty 0010X. 73C is a clear performance leader that will add pounds to any calf crop with extra shape and dimension. If you need to improve foot size, bone structure or overall mass, look to Order of Duty. His dam, Gambles Lady 2197, was sourced out of Limestone Angus’ production sale in 2011 and has become the leading donor cow for Shawn and Teresa and girls at TSN. Combining her quality along with bulls such as New Design, VRD and Saugahatchee (see Lot 266!) will make this young sire a maternal leader that will go on to sire extremely functional females. Please consider Order of Duty if you want more volume and fleshing ability with additional maternal traits and a pedigree that seriously limits your ‘guess Bouchard Livestock International • Brian Bouchard work’. We are thrilled to have Bouchard helping us again with The Delorme family • Order of Duty Syndicate by BtL6, and donating semen on an incredibly exciting young sire for donated TSN Angus • 403-896-9585 (Chad) you to consider. info@bouchardlivestock.com

Given the buzz on this bull, we deeply thank the Laycocks of RSL for this donation. KBJ Round Farms’ dispersal was a milestone. The top of that ‘marquee’ is Little Deep selling for $45,000. Only the year before, he was a high seller from Thistle Ridge for $19,000. This great, dark red herd bull was used for two seasons and his progeny and service highlighted Round’s dispersal. He has developed into a most impressive herd sire. A few weeks ago, OBI’s Mark Holowaychuk put this picture on Facebook. Within minutes, dozens of people wanted to know just who he was. Now, EVERYONE is getting to know Little Deep! Yay for you, Team RSL! His dam is a moderate, perfect-footed cow with a special udder: among Ben Tam’s best. She traces back to the great Stewart Cattle Co.’s Miss Pathy 62A who has 61 registered progeny. Thistle Ridge purchased Rollin Deep and limited semen sales to only a couple of packages. Results for all have been overwhelming. Upon realizing just what Rollin Deep was, Bieber Red Angus purchased him back. 2015 produced the $64,000 herd sire to U-2 Ranch Ltd.; what a set of calves he has left them! Little Deep’s performance and EPDs are spectacular: top 5% WW, 1% YW, 2% Milk, 1% TM, 1% Carcass Weight, 1% Marbling and 5% REA; who matches this! And his progeny have averaged 80 lbs at birth. RSL has a great one. And they are sharing with you.

This donation comes to us from an outstanding Junior member, and was bred by another outstanding Junior who donated Lot 259. I love this! When Shawn called to ask about Power Up for BtL6, the Doetzels ‘jumped at the chance’ to support our Foundation that supports so much of what is very meaningful to them. If you ever want to know how awesome Power Eye is, just check out Kevin Blair’s Facebook page, and then click on the links to success stories shared by people the world over who support Kevin’s position. Power Eye is a very influential bull (with a Thistle Ridge connection, just like the donation above… hmmm… hey Ben… how about 2018?) everywhere Blairs.Ag has marketed him. And Power Up 1B is one of the reasons why Power Eye has his solid reputation. Maguire Blair campaigned 1B in 2014 and he was Agribition’s Intermediate Bull Calf Champion. Upon acquiring him, the Doetzel family used him then showed him in the fall of 2015 when he would win Junior Champion Bull at Brandon Ag Ex. One year later, he returned to Brandon and became Grand Champion Red Angus Bull, then showing in Agribition’s RBC Supreme Championship. When Juniors support other Juniors, AMAZING things happen! Past outstanding Junior Austen Anderson thinks so much of Power Up that he purchased semen so most of the heifers for your ‘Pick’ in the Anderson Cattle Co. donation on page 8 are Nu-Horizon Angus • The Doetzel Family donated by 306-336-2245 • kdknuhorizon@gmail.com offered AI’d to this bull. How often do Canadians purchase “Lot 1” in American sales? Let alone a sale with a reputation like “Denim & Diamonds” ‘on the hill’ every January during the National Western Stock Show (NWSS) in Denver? Well, it happened this year as part of the $150,000 half-semen-interest syndicate. Canadian Angus is that much richer for it, and Ryan Currie, DJ Cook and Brian Kemp are ‘sharing the riches’ with our Foundation. “The Show” is the reigning 2017 NWSS Reserve Junior Champion Angus Bull. Last year, he was named the Early Junior Bull Calf Champion in Denver. The Show comes from Silveira Bros. and Hara Angus Farm and they tout him as “the next great dominant Angus show sire”. He combines the $202,000-valued sire of champions, Silveiras Style 9303, with another prolific producer of champions, Hara’s Dixie Erica 1, yielding a pedigree that is truly “bred in the purple”. Full siblings to The Show have been valued at $48,000, $40,000, $25,000 and $19,000 with successful show careers in Pennsylvania, Colorado, Michigan, Iowa and at the American Angus Association National Junior Angus Show. Maternal siblings have generated a lifetime production income for The Show’s dam exceeding $300,000 and counting… while averaging over 20 embryos per flush. It’s a given: with her prolificacy as a donor female, his dam is incredibly fertile! If you are looking for style, Ryan, DJ and Blacklane Farm • Ryan Currie and family by Otter Creek Farms; Kemp Family Livestock Brian are definitely getting you ‘hooked up’ with The Show… making donated 613-883-2141 • currie_ry@hotmail.com his debut in Canada in BtL6!

Nordal and Hinman’s (Malta, Montana) donation is perfect: they are developing a very exciting sire who has much to offer both Canada and the Unites States. 5118 was a top seller in Hinman’s record-breaking 2016 sale. His maternal brother, HA Outside 3008, sired the $350,000 HA Cowboy Up 5405 who topped that sale to Express, et al. 1575 anchors one of Hinman’s strongest cow families. They praise her structural soundness, nearperfect udder and smooth, stylish appearance. 5118 has impressive EPDs for production, maternal, carcass and dollar values. He leads the breed at Scrotal 2.72 (top 1%), HP +23.8 (top 3%), REA +1.2 (top 2%) and $YG +15.72 (top 1%). He sold with an adjusted ribeye of 14.4 and scrotal of 44.1 cm. His sire is a trait leader for performance and carcass values. Rob runs a very low-maintenance operation, and his cow herd are the epitome of range-ready. If cows don’t have absolute calving ease and produce absent of ‘hands-on’ management, they don’t stay. Nordal markets all 2-year-old bulls that are raised in this exact environment and bulls are used in the purebred herd after proving successful in their large commercial herd. He finishes his commercial calves and sells them on the most profitable grids he can access, so he has focussed on carcass merit for the past few years as well. When Rob selects a bull, he focuses entirely on Nordal Angus • Rob & Cindy Garner by Dave & Yvonne Hinman • 306-946-7946 value for his commercial buyers. Brad Gilchrist has given us another dose of ‘power’ in 2017, repeating his donation from last year of Power Chip, one of our highest selling BtL semen lots EVER at $400/straw. And in that time frame, many of Gilchrist Farm’s cows have been bred to him and he was also named Canadian Angus Reserve National Champion Bull at Toronto’s Royal Agricultural Winter Fair last fall. Please remember that he was Reserve Grand Champion at the Fort Worth Stock Show last year as well. Brad has promoted Blue Chip from the first time he laid eyes on him in Denver last year. Brad believes he is the perfect combination of eye appeal, soundness, dimension, depth and balance from head to tail. You have to appreciate that this exceptional sire is one of very few EXAR Blue Chip 1877B (currently the 2016–17 Roll of Victory Reserve Show Sire of the Year and arguably Dameron First Class’ most famous offspring) sons available and many believe that Power Chip is one of the very best. Breeder of Power Chip, 5T Land and Cattle, runs 200 females in east Texas. Their cows produce big-boned, deep ribbed bulls and heifers that perform well in the pasture and the show ring. To date, Power Chip is the only 5T bull with genetics in Canada. The only other 5T influence is a heifer born last year. This outfit, these genetics and Power Chip semen is all still very rare in Canada, so Brad’s donation is exceptional and very much Gilchrist Farms • Brad Gilchrist & family appreciated. donated by 519-440-6720 • brad@gilchristfarms.com

I am VERY excited to write about Rage! Because he’s awesome. Because his offspring are among my favourites in our nation. But mostly because, after three years, we can offer Rage semen for your benefit and support of our Foundation’s ‘legacy’. Many thanks to HBH for making this dream come true! Promotional information for Rito 9969 states that he “has redefined the term, ‘Muscle Bull’! He is a powerful individual that offers outcross genetics to Angus breeders [and] continues to be one of the heaviest used sires at Schaff Angus Valley. Rito 9969 will moderate frame and add more muscle dimension than most sires.” I repeat all of this and more about his #1 Canadian son, Rage. 102W has the broody, deep, high volume tradition of Karama cows at Latimers. With Rage at side, she was Reserve Grand Champion Female at 2013 Agribition. Her dam was the high selling female at Black Magic 2011 to Boss Cattle Co. for $26,500. And you see this maternal heritage passed on to Rage daughters. With the ability to sire stout, massive bull calves and incredibly feminine daughters with the same thickness, Rage is truly a ‘best of both worlds’-type sire. And check out his EPDs: within the top 10% for WW, YW, TM, CW and Fat, top third for Milk and top half for BW. With 279 offspring in his first two calf crops, Rage’s story is still being written. And based on HBH’s donation here, you can have your own HBH Farms • The Airey Family chapter in this best seller.

I have been impressed by Crush since he was at side of 16Z as the 2014 Farmfair Grand Champion Female; he also won his summer division. Then he won his 2015 class at Denver. His ‘winning ways’ proved dominant from that point forward, being named Champion Bull at: 2015 Lloydminster Stockade Round-Up National: Grand Champion Red Angus Bull; 2015 Farmfair International: Grand; 2016 Fort Worth and Houston Livestock Show: Grand; 2016 Lloydminster and Farmfair International: Grand (both REPEATS!); 2017 Denver National Western Stock Show: Reserve. Crush is a Northline partnership with Collier Diamond C Ranch and Goad Family Angus. He is becoming one of the ‘elite’ Northline bulls, now improving many breeding programs worldwide. The Schneider family, based on his first calf crop, recognize that Crush can be used on a wide range of cows as an ‘improver’, regardless of their type and style. He has superior hoof and hip structure and natural muscle. He will add performance to your herd. Finally, he has a great disposition. Crush’s first calves last year were born unassisted on heifers, reflecting his actual 78 lbs birth weight. His admirable hair coat with its deep cherry red colour has caught the eye of many cattle folk from all breeds. Crush is a striking bull that will add to any herd, including yours. It was a priority that Northline’s ‘dynamic duo’ of Farmfair International 2016 Grand Champion Bulls join the BtL fraternity in 2017. Fortunately, the Schneider family agreed to this donation then surpassed it by offering another couple of outstanding herd sires. Here is the first of those, bred by one of the early donors of our BtL ‘Pick-of-the-Herd’ Heifer Calves, South View Ranch: the Kaufmann family of Ceylon, SK. Gangster was a standout at SVR from birth. He matured into a very stout, unique individual with lots of top, hip and an excellent hair coat. Gangster sold in SVR’s 2007 bull sale to Northline Angus and Wheeler’s Stock Farm for $15,000 for two-thirds interest and full possession; think back 10 years… how many bulls earned this price back then? He had a very successful three-year show career, achieving Grand or Reserve at the shows in which he competed. His show ring finale was taking part in Agribition’s RBC Beef Supreme Challenge. But his greatest contribution was yet to come through his breeding offspring. Gangster’s progeny exhibit many of his qualities; dark red with eye appeal and stout right from birth. Over time, he has proved a ‘breed changer’ for muscle shape and eye appeal. And just consider some of his progeny: Red Northline Fat Tony 605U (2011 U.S National Champion Bull—Denver), Red Northline Chuck Norris 305X Northline Angus • Howard & Wendy Schneider and family (2013 NWSS Reserve Senior Champion; 3-time Denver South View Ranch • Pieper Red Angus • Harvey, Frances donated by & Michael Wheeler; McEntire Red Angus • 780-977-0023 division champion), Red Northline Jesse James 56W and Red cattle@northlineangus.ca • www.northlineangus.ca Wheel Gangster 31Y, past herd sire at Blairs.Ag.

It might have been easy to overlook Rev 341R during the Fully Loaded ‘juggernaut’ of 2007. Rev was named Reserve Grand Champion at Agribition and many appreciated his smoothness and balance while carrying the tremendous muscling Rob Roy offspring are noted for. I was a very big fan of Rev and I know many others were as well. And now Northline has donated genetics to our Foundation from what is likely Rev’s most notable son. Ignition was the 2010 NILE Grand Champion Bull in Billings and a 3-time NWSS Division Champion in Denver. He sired even more winners: • Red Northline Plush 122Z: 2014 U.S. National Grand Champion Female, Fort Worth Stock Show (one of the greatest Northline females… EVER!); • Red Northline Porsche 16Z: 2014 Canadian National Grand Champion Female at Farmfair with our Lot 283 above at her side; • Red Northline Izzy 86C: 2016 Farmfair Reserve Grand Champion Female. Ignition is the sire of outstanding females and bulls that ranchers love for their performance and do-ability. His greatest testament to commercial rancher acceptance? Most of Ignition’s offspring come from Cattle Creek Ranching Ltd. at Maple Creek, SK, David Flundra’s operation. You can see in his picture: Ignition has massive deep rib and muscle with knockout performance: top 20% for WW, top 7% for YW and top 1% for Milk and TM. Finally, to complete Northline’s generous contribution to BtL6, here is the finest black bull they’ve produced for some time. What a knockout he is! Cool Cat had a very different twist to his pedigree. While you are likely familiar with the style and presence that comes from Hot Rod, the rest of his genetics are unique. Heavy Si comes from Michael Daines and is a moderate, massively muscled stud typical of the Daines operation’s vision and ‘look’. Si has been sampled by Kelsey Knott, Tyler Kueber and the Liebreichs of Merit (whose 2015 Heavy Si-sired feature bull Sharp Dressed Man is co-owned by Ramrod’s Tony Dekeyser). Jeannot Brothers now own Heavy Si and he sees ‘heavy’ use at their operation. Si’s first calf crop yielded Cool Cat for Northline. While his show career has been limited, when Schneiders started campaigning him he proved formidable. Last fall he was the Farmfair International Grand Champion Angus Bull. This winter he earned the title of Houston Livestock Show Reserve Grand Champion Bull. And his offspring have begun their ‘winning ways’ as well: Northline Fatal Attraction 303 was named Junior Heifer Calf Champion and Reserve Grand Champion at the Houston Show last month. These are very fresh genetics and there is little Cool Cat in use anywhere in Canada. Watching 4420 last fall emphasized why the Trefiaks of MJT brought him to Canada and Miller Wilson needed to own a piece of him. Mick found First Impression as a calf in Mogck Angus Farms’ string at 2015 Denver NWSS. He was a mid-April calf and at 9 months old his natural muscling and early maturity was impressive. Seeing his dam at Tripp, South Dakota sealed the deal for MJT. This pedigree is new to Canada. 4420’s sire—Dameron First Impression—was the 2012 Denver Grand Champion Bull. His progeny have been dominating shows across North America. 4420’s dam is one of the best Angus females the Trefiaks have ever seen. With a loaded pedigree and combination of calving ease and performance, 4420 has the best of both worlds: 81 lbs birth weight, early maturity and solid carcass measures; he is hard to overlook! 4420’s gentle disposition and predisposition for feed conversion makes him a valuable herd bull in the MJT program. After winning Grand Champion Bull at Olds, 4420 would also be the Lloydminster Grand and Supreme Champion Bull, Farmfair Supreme Champion Top 5 Finalist and Agribition Reserve Senior Champion Bull. Given the expansiveness of this extraordinary donation, there is little room for words. I’ll let three considerations ‘do the talking’: 1) the pictures of these limitless bulls; 2) their exciting pedigrees and impressive EPDs; and, 3) the fact this donation is coming from one of the most reputable and popular Angus operations on Earth. If Six Mile is offering something, the value is inherent and abundant. Thank you, Gibson family, for helping your Foundation once again!

He created the sires donated in Lot 271 above, and now Justin and Team Brooking donate semen from their brand new purchase at Schaff Angus Valley’s landmark 2017 sale this past February. Justin selected Lot 26 for $47,500 from the herd with more currently producing sires in the American Angus Association than any other. 6822 is an eye-catcher with herd-changing type. He is moderate, thick, heavymuscled and as sound as you can build one. His picture is worth a thousand words and his pedigree is worth thousands more… backed by some of the best breeding in the business. His Density dam is a sixth-generation SAV embryo donor. She is phenotypically flawless in terms of body type, femininity and udder quality, with moderation, muscle and natural fleshing ability. She was the lead-off and top-selling cow in the 2015 SAV sale (to Paul Larsen) and is a full flush sister to SAV featureselling herd sires SAV Sunrise 0060 (Kuck Ranch in 2011) and SAV Sunset 0257 (Siebring Angus also in 2011). Several progeny have highlighted past SAV sales. 6822’s granddam is the maternal matriarch Dam - S A V Madame Pride 0151 at Schaffs and continues in production at 17 years of age. She is second in top income-producing cow in SAV history with 107 progeny featured in past SAV sales and has 38 daughters retained in the SAV herd. Can you say “maternal”? There is absolute no part of Brooking that requires a renovation. But a ‘Renovation 6822’? Perhaps we can all use a ‘dose’ of this Brooking Angus Ranch • The Morrison Family donated by 306-536-4590 (Justin) • morry_morrison@hotmail.com upgrade. Towaw solidly supports our Foundation and BtL series. They are donating a rare benefit. Given the history of this family operation in the development of Red Angus in Canada, when they select a sire the rest of us should likely take note and maybe ‘opt in’, if given the opportunity. After some tough negotiating, the Wildmans purchased a half interest in Zeppelin in the spring of 2014 from Mike McDonald’s Windy Hill Stock Farm. He was extremely attractive-fronted, good footed, long bodied, big hipped and had that deep red colour that is so popular with Red Angus breeders. Zeppelin left Towaw a set of calves that pattern very much like himself and have impressed breeders both here in Canada and down at Smoky Y Red Angus in Kansas. Visitors compliment his progeny’s correctness and muscle shape. Unfortunately, Towaw lost Zep to injury in the summer of 2015 so his legacy has to live on in his progeny. They were able to collect some semen prior to losing him so Zeppelin has been sampled among the top herds in North America with extremely positive reports. Calves are powerful and growthy with tons of eye appeal and style. His EPDs have Red CCC Towaw Larkaba 530C Zeppelin daughter Reserve Champion Spring Yearling Farmfair continuously improved as more calves are born; he now sits in the top 15% for WW, YW and TM. His first daughters have sound udders and raised some top end calves. One of his first daughters born at Towaw, Red Towaw CCC Larkaba 530C, won Reserve Junior Yearling Heifer Championship at both 2016 Olds Fall Classic and Edmonton Northlands Farmfair. He also has high selling sons working at Rack, Shiloh, Petherbridge, HR Hahn, and Towaw Cattle Co. Ltd. • The Wildman Family • Ian Selte donated by Kolby Flying K. Aberdeen Angus Cow Model No. 1563 Issued 1959-1989

In the summer of 2015, Donna made what we believe is the largest donation of global Angus memorabilia to our national headquarters, Angus Central, with the provision that items be sold over time as a fundraiser for the Canadian Angus Foundation. Our Foundation has long been a preferred charity for JD Farms; John and Donna worked tirelessly to promote the ‘embryo lottery’ that culminated at the 2009 Forum and represented our first major Foundation fundraiser. Donna is excited to see her and John’s collected Angus ‘works’ find new homes in the coming years. This Beswick figurine is an antique collectible. They have not been produced since the 1980s and are ‘as scarce as hen’s teeth’. Only in “Building the Legacy” can you find such items in Canada, thanks to Donna!

A couple years after the 100th birthday celebration of the Earl Marshall Angus bull, global Angus historian Tom Burke completed his comprehensive history of this celebrated breed-building sire. Earl Marshall’s owner was W.A. McHenry and the McHenry family but the history of Earl Marshall is the history of Angus in North America. Recent tabulations have shown that of more than 3 million registered Angus cattle in the United States alone, all but less than 1,000, have bloodlines connected to Earl Marshall. Registration #2,000,000

Quite a milestone for Canadian Angus breeders—we will reach our 2 millionth registration this year and your herd name could be on that paper! In 2000, CAA auctioned the rights to purchase the 1 millionth Angus registration in Canada. Cudlobe Angus won that battle and a copy of the certificate is on display in the President’s Board Room at Angus Central. When the 1 millionth sold, it brought $6,500. With high and esteemed visibility in The President’s Board Room, wouldn’t you like to choose who should be the 2 millionth Canadian Angus registration? And have your prefix and tattoo attached to it? Your outstanding 2017-born Angus animal could soon share the limelight and be immortalized at our national headquarters.
