50 YEARS
It’s that time of year again at Doenz Ranches. I can’t believe how true the adage goes- days go by slow but the years go by fast. This year has been an interesting one with lots of learning with it. It is nice to see the markets holding strong though. As you probably notice in the pages here, it becomes a real research project for sires to use. We are always looking for genetics that will cross well with our current blood lines and check all the boxes and not sacrifice conformation. It sure can be a gamble as anything in agriculture, the bulls you see in the pages were planned on in the fall of 2021 or early 2022 and back to the fall of 2020 for the herefords. Talk about delayed gratification. It is a cool feeling to be able to put them all together on an offering for you.
In our industry right now, we need animals that can perform strongly under adverse conditions. For that reason, we stand by these bulls and honestly enjoy seeing them go out to do their jobs and bring out the qualities you are looking for in your herd.
We continue with the sale terms that may be of interest to you. Pay half now and half with a cheque for Jun 1, 2024. We will winter the angus bull calves free of charge with delivery in the spring. With the hereford bulls, winter carries the potential to be extreme. It might help to lighten your load to have your bull here through the winter for $200/ animal and we’ll deliver them to you in the spring. For those instances we encourage putting insurance on just in the case something should happen.
If it is a bit of a trip for you to come all the way on sale day, we’re happy to help in any way. We are open to showing you around anytime leading up to the sale December 7th. If you’re stuck between a few bulls that you aren’t sure about feel free to call us anytime. We invite you to stop by prior to 1pm on sale day and enjoy a hot lunch. We have great Internet at the barn and the sale will be open for online live bidding through DLMS. We also have sale videos of the offering through cattle vids the week before the sale as well. We are looking forward to the day and hope to see you there!

A moderate 86 lbs birth weight combined with 1006 lbs weaning weight and 1674 lbs yearling weight, Big River had a 42 cm scrotal as a yearling and put up a large volume of semen. His Dam EA Blackcap 4053 is one of the best donor females on Ellingson Ranch. Big River’s progeny have explosive body capacity, ample bone, structural soundness and fluent mobility. He’s ranked top 1% for hoof, claw and angle EPD’s and top 1% for weaning and yearling weight EPD’s.
BC ROBUST 0807
We were able to view some sons of this guy before we knew anything about him and were blown away by his progeny. Robust is a bull to be admired for his length and thickness while maintaining the integrity of hoof structure and is from a different pedigree from anything else. Super excited to bring this crop of calves to you as we think he passed his traits on strong with this group.
HF ALCATRAZ 60F

We lucked out and just bought a few straws of this guy in an online sale and used him just to flush with. Alcatraz just has a presence and you can’t deny his power and look of athleticism and free moving gait with a big foot under him and have loads of hair. His calves carry these traits as well. Alcatraz is being known in the breed for keeping good heel under his progeny with a strong solid foot. A foot and leg improver.

This bull was a top pick of many purebred breeders and he’s pretty tough to beat. He’s a gorgeous bull to look at. We were really looking for bulls to use on our heifers that wouldn’t sacrifice muscle and structure and still be nice performing animals at weaning with decent EPD’s and actual weaning weights. Did we ever win on going in on this guy. His progeny have not disappointed us this year.

He was Reserve Grand Champion at the Medicine hat bull show and sale in 2021. The most correct package I’ve seen in a straight horned bull. He carries the length, thickness, wide and strong topline, deep ribbed, big chest capacity and a sound, solid, big hoof under him with pigment and hair to top it all off.

This bull stood out as a herdsire. He’s long with a wide and thick topline and carries that thickness deep in his ribs and into his hindquarter. Lots of pigment on this bull and excited to see it come through on his progeny.
RLCI 423D GUINNESS 30H
As known as the “legend” around here. If you’re looking for a bull to bring females or males, this guy can do both. 103E consistently has left his mark with moderate, extremely thick and easy doing cattle that have gone on and consecutively got the job done. Whenever we pick our replacements, the 103E’s are the ones to watch for- the performance, udders, and feet are all there.
We were looking for a way to continue using the Guinness bloodline and decided to use both 30H and brother 19H. Both went on to breed exceptionally well. They carry the hip and length we need in the breed and take off white and put pigment in place.
