La Casita's annual signature program, “Balcón Criollo", presents a collection of community-sourced photographs, memorabilia and meaningful objects showcased in a porch-like corner installation and along the walls of the space. Inspired by the work of Puerto Rican artist Pepón Osorio, the project uniquely combines museum installation and field-based social practices. This exhibit opens to the public in September each year to commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month. La Casita's Art Gallery showcases U.S. Latino and Latin American artists and civic centered exhibitions that explore the American experience and cultural richness of Hispanic communities in the U.S. Managed by Syracuse University's Office of Cultural Engagement for the Hispanic Community at the College of Arts and Sciences, the space is also an interactive laboratory for civic engagement and museum studies research.
