ASSESS
This year, the Bold Center celebrates its 10th anniversary, after officially opening its doors in 2011. Although the COVID-19 pandemic has meant that we cannot celebrate its anniversary in the way that we had imagined, we can commemorate this special occasion with a new version of the Community Activity Guide that contains a variety of programs both inside and outside of the Bold Center that are welladapted to our current reality. We know that you’ll find something in this guide to help you and your family lead an active, healthy lifestyle.

A Message from Ken Van Buul, Chief Administrative Officer Lac La Biche County has continued
How many minutes of physical activity do you perform each week? to prove adaptable and resilient
through the pandemic, and If less than 150min/week for adults or 60min/day foreven children ask our recreation, facilities, FCSS, aquatics, and other County staff “Is this something you would like to improve?”
have found inventive ways to keep our community engaged and healthy. The variety of programs, services, and classes (both virtual and in-person, according to provincial restrictions) that we’ve offered has been outstanding.
ADVISE
As we start a new year and begin to turn the page on the pandemic, I hope that you and your family will take advantage of the excellent programs that our community offers. I’m proud to present this latest edition of the Community Activity Guide: it’s the result of all the hard work that our staff and community groups have put into making Lac La Biche County a great place to live.
Provide a Prescription To Get Active.
The future of recreation in our community excites Lac La Biche County Council. We’ve invested in outdoor sports fields in the Bold Center’s surrounding area, which will be ready this spring. And this year, we’re starting work on a brand-new aquatics centre attached to the multiplex, which has been made possible by grant funding from the Governments of Canada and Alberta. Even after 10 years, the Bold Center and our recreation facilities continue to grow If our there was one needs prescription that could prevent and treat dozens of diseases, such as and change to suit community’s and diabetes, improve our quality of life, hypertension, and we are sureand that obesity, shouldn’t we be prescribing it to all of our patients? the next 10 will be just as exciting. ~Sallis M.D
Encourage your patient to increase their activity levels or decrease sitting times. Have you already given a prescription?
Great – assess where your patient is today.

Lac La Biche County Family & Community Support Services (FCSS) is a partnership between Lac La Biche County and the Government of Alberta. The mandate of FCSS is to provide locally-driven, preventative social initiatives that enhance the well-being of individuals, families and the community. Our FCSS is one of 206 programs across the province providing services as outlined by a provincial FCSS Act and Regulation. All these programs collectively ensure Albertans have access to a strong network of preventative social supports. Our programs aim to establish a healthy community of empowered individuals, resilient youth, supported seniors, and healthy families. We also provide a mix of direct programs and grant funds to support community organizations. We are strengthening community partnerships and looking at barriers to increase social support systems in the community. We are working on strategies to reduce complex social issues like unstable housing and poverty.
