LA DE DA LETTER FROM THE EDITOR Springtime is here in full bloom! Femininity takes over with editorial contributors represented from coast to coast of the US, England, Poland, and Ukraine. Our featured designer is Liana Tabecek of Liana Paula Jewelry from Jacksonville, Florida. She creates beautiful handcrafted designs made from high quality and natural materials of the earth with a purpose of inspiring one’s soul to rock everyday. She says that her jewelry can serve as a reminder to live fully and peacefully, and go after what drives you. LDD: Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from and what got you started in design? Liana Paula: I’m a Jacksonville, FL native. During years in the corporate world, I enjoyed my share of “retail therapy” but got increasingly tired of searching for jewelry that fit my style – I rarely found it. At the end of one long, unsuccessful hunt for the right piece, I found myself compelled to just design one myself. Inspired by my long time obsession with the power of crystals (and a hot new outfit), I ventured out to find the right materials and ended up creating the perfect piece. When I was finally done, I really liked the way it looked, but fell in love with how it made me FEEL.

What is special about your designs and makes them stand out? My collection is designed for strong, free spirited women who are in tune with their intentions and actively chasing down their dreams. I believe that wearing a little something cool to remind you of your intentions helps you focus on manifesting them. My jewelry features organic energies that have healed and inspired us for centuries, while promoting inner strength and focus. They act as a playful reminder that you can rock anytime, anywhere. My pieces stand out because they are unique. I source the highest quality, natural materials including semi-precious stones, wood, leather and lava to handcraft pieces that can endure the journey. “Everyday, I’m inspired by the beauty around me, and I love when a remarkable person, place, or experience can be transformed into jewelry.” Each piece is truly “limited edition” because no two are identical – they came out of the earth – not a mold. So, when you’re drawn to a piece, I always say “get it while you can, because when it’s gone – it’s gone.” I can’t make that same one again. What’s your favorite part about conceptualizing a design? I love how fast an everyday thought can manifest into a new piece of jewelry. When a random question goes through my mind (like, “What necklace would go with this dress?”), a new design pops in my head, and sometimes I can create it quick enough to wear out that night. Designing trumps shopping every time – you just can’t beat the efficiency! What matters to you most as a jewelry designer? The feeling a person gets when they wear my jewelry is what’s most important to me. The best feedback I receive is when a customer tells me they feel beautiful wearing my jewelry, and that they can’t wait to rock a new piece!! One of my favorite quotes comes from Maya Angelou – “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” How do you prepare for a trunk show, fashion shoot or show? Any special rituals? The nights leading up to a big event, you’ll find me up long after midnight making last minute touches on my collection and creating a brand new piece or two to be featured on the big day. I like the element of surprise and events are a perfect way to pull that off. How would you define your personal style? My personal look is a blend of classic comfort meets modern style. It’s all about what feels good to me in that moment and having fun. Most days I’m rocking flowy tops with skinny jeans but for date night, you’ll find me in something sexy and black and lots of jewelry of course!! Not to mention, I’m obsessed with everything designed by my dear friend, Erin Healy. With that said, how would you define the style your line exemplifies? ing the attitude of the wearer. She could be anywhere – beach resort, night on the town, yoga – and the piece she’s wearing expresses her inner beauty. It’s hard to neatly classify my style, because I combine the classic beauty of metal with the bohemian spirit of natural materials like sharks teeth, stones and snakeskin to bring a unique look and feel to my collection. Where do you get your inspiration? Everyday, I’m inspired by the beauty around me, and I love when a remarkable person, place or experience can be transformed into jewelry. On a recent trip to the Dominican Republic, I was mesmerized by the colorful island landscape and tranquil blue oceans, so those elements are reflected in my 2015 Spring/ Summer collection. I also draw deep inspiration from a near death experience I encountered after a 2008 head injury and brain surgery. When I awoke in ICU, I was filled with a sense of inner peace, love, and enlightenment like I’ve never felt before. While I had plenty of healing to do, I was inspired to begin my journey through manifesting my desires, overcoming my fears and being the best woman I can be, each and every day. I couldn’t be more thankful for my amazing life and the beautiful gifts the universe continues to share with me. My jewels are the extension of that feeling – they are how I can share it with others. Who are your favorite jewelry designers and/or brands? Classic designers like, Tiffany & Co. and David Yurman, have always grabbed my attention. But, I’ve recently discovered Bora Jewelry - a captivating line of handcrafted accessories influenced by Mediterranean culture and traditions from many centuries ago. Absolutely stunning!! What advice do you have for aspiring jewelry and accessory designers? Network, network, network!! How will people know about your gorgeous designs if they’ve never seen them? Word of mouth is the most powerful way to promote your business and networking through friends and family is a great start. Remember, people are going to tell you no, but that’s ok - there’s someone out there looking for your style right now. They just haven’t seen it yet.
