After a depressingly distanced and isolated year-plus, it’s finally the official summer of road trips and patio dining, of outdoor adventures and indulgent treats, of living life to the fullest we possibly can – and of making up for everything we couldn’t do last summer. And we at Ladue News are here for it. I don’t know about you, but my summer doesn’t truly begin until I’ve had my first ice cream cone, and as a local business loyalist, I can’t wait to try a scoop of family-owned Bold Spoon Creamery’s flavor-packed pints, profiled starting on Page 23 by LN contributor Alecia Humphreys. And for those interested in treats of the more adult variety, flip to Page 84, where LN digital editor and staff writer Andrea Smith shares a sneak peek at Town and Country’s newest destination – Wild Crush Wine Bar(n), where you’ll be able to find the LN team during happy hour all season long. And if you’re the kind of person who is most excited by the prospect of once again entertaining in your home this summer, check out the feature starting on Page 71 by LN regular Brittany Nay about Parklyn Interiors – the recently launched firm aimed at creating beautiful, livable interior design for area families. Want more summer fun? Flip to Page 82 for an update on this season at The Muny, Page 62 for zero-waste beauty products and Page 64 for a review of how to add more colorful pizazz to your garden this year. However you choose to kick off your best summer yet, we hope you have fun, stay safe and enjoy all the metro area has to offer – because it offers so much.

otivation is only one part of the equation that leads to life-changing makeovers, as clients of Charles D’Angelo will tell you. The nationally renowned weight loss and transformation coach wants more than for his clients to simply see the numbers on the scale drop. Those seeking his guidance can expect a self-revolution. “When you have a powerful why, the how is simple,” D’Angelo says. “In coaching, we work to reconnect you with your greatest resource: your resourcefulness.” Positive self-image is the ultimate endgame, turning motivation into capability. Take Marion Hollander, who shed 110 pounds. Her future once seemed bleak, with constant pain due to obesity. Hollander understood the difficulty her family might someday face, having provided for her ailing mother who had passed from colon cancer three years prior. “If my family had to take care of me, there’s no way they could with the weight I was carrying,” she says. Hollander is grateful for D’Angelo’s three-legged approach to weight loss success, changing her relationship with food, exercise and, most importantly, working on her mindset. Down to her goal weight and off all but one medication, Hollander has been celebrating in style. “I feel so good about the things that I am wearing, and I have fun with it!” the Mary Kay consultant says. “I loved myself enough to do what needed to be done.” An athlete all her life, Lori Czeschin expected relief after knee replacement surgery. Her extra weight had other plans. “I felt miserable,” she recalls. One call to D’Angelo, several months and a new routine later, and she’s a new woman. “It’s amazing how quickly your mindset can change,” Czeschin says. “It’s second nature to me now. It’s accountability. I feel so much better.” As a senior at Christian Brothers College High School, Christian Vitale came to D’Angelo seeking to reclaim enthusiasm for life. “My weight caused me to miss out on things,” he says. “I was depressed. I had waited three hours in line for a roller coaster and couldn’t fit. At that point, I was like, okay, I need to do something about this.”

Lost 76 pounds Adapting to a new relationship with food initially proved tough, but he appreciates the payoff, which includes better fitting clothes and increased energy levels. The biggest reward, however, came unexpectedly. “I’ve inspired friends and family members to live healthier,” Vitale says. “There’s nothing better than someone telling you they’re inspired by the progress that you’ve made.” D’Angelo continues to revolutionize people’s way of thinking. “I’ve been there – obese, bullied, lonely and fearful,” he says. “Given my biography, I could have been the king of excuses. If you will tap your courage to take the first step and reach out to meet, it can be the start of an entirely new life.” Charles D’Angelo, 314-495-3228, charlesdangelo.com

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT
SHATTERING GLASS By Sara Cao
I
n the past 30 years, only two women have been named the Missouri Athletic Director of the Year, and Jennifer Brooks – the current athletic director of Oakland’s Ursuline Academy – is the second. Since 1996, Brooks has been the backbone of the academy’s athletic program: watching and scheduling games, supervising more than 40 coaches and 30 teams, and acclimating staff to the athletic department. “She generously takes on statewide leadership roles through MSHSAA [the Missouri State High School Activities Association], speaks at professional conferences for athletic directors and has even organized a professional growth and support network of female athletic directors nationally,” says Mark Michalski, Ursuline’s principal.
Brooks says she is honored to be a part of the lives of the young women in Ursuline’s athletic program. Through her position, she hopes for “young women to see other women in places of leadership and to model what it is like to be a female leader.” Brooks explains that her recent recognition makes her feel more visible in a male-dominated field. “Initially, I was shocked,” she says of the Missouri Athletic Director of the Year announcement. “I thought there was no way I, as a female, would win this award. Oftentimes in my career, I have felt invisible or felt that I didn’t belong. This changes everything.” Looking toward the future, Brooks hopes that this award will “make the journey for other women – whether they are my student-athletes
or an athletic director from across the country – a little easier because I already shattered some glass for them.” In addition to her robust career, Brooks started an organization called the Global Community of Women in High School Sports to create a space for women in sports to “network, learn and empower each other.” After Brooks started her organization, many women reached out to her in gratitude, and Brooks shared that she has also “had men reach out to me wanting to learn more about how they can better support their female coaches and other female athletic directors.” Michalski shares what he believes to be the key to Brooks’ impact on Ursuline and on the regional high school sports industry at large: “Being an excellent athletic director means being an excellent teacher, and Mrs. Brooks is just that.”

INNOVATION HUB
A New Way to Work By Brittany Nay | Photo by Maddie K Photography
MPWR STL, a new incubator and collaborative workspace for women-owned businesses, is already helping many of the metro area’s female entrepreneurs take their ventures to the next level. LN recently spoke with creator Betsy Nacrelli, MPWR founder and CEO of handcrafted artisan jewelry brand Collections by Joya, about this innovative springboard for local women-led companies. What inspired MPWR? Despite 2020 being a challenging year, I felt like I finally had the time to find interesting ways to collaborate with other women-owned businesses. I was inspired by how much we could accomplish when we worked together, shared ideas and shared resources. When designing the space, I thought about the things that I needed when I started my business from my living room. The architecture and bones of the space are masculine, so I softened the space by adding feminine lines and textures. We used artwork, wall art and upholstery
to incorporate arches throughout the space to pay a subtle homage to St. Louis. We also have amazing quotes from women in business hung throughout the office to keep our members motivated and inspired. What are your goals for MPWR? My hope is that each of our members will find ways to lean on each other for knowledge and resources, collaborate and create new projects, and work together to take their businesses to the next level. I would love to see women who are just starting out with a great idea for a business to learn and gather advice from members who were once in their shoes. Sandy Kaplan By Alice Handelman
andy Kaplan took her first hand-building clay class at Craft Alliance in 1989 with nationally exhibited artist and instructor James Ibur – while amid her fundraising career. “My work evolved as I began to create figurative and narrative vessels and sculptures,” she says. “I even transferred the sewing I did years ago to making clothes out of clay with little difficulty.” She calls Buzz Spector, professor emeritus at the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, her mentor. In 2012, when Spector selected several of her ceramic sculptures for an exhibit he was curating at the Regional Arts Commission, he stated: “The exuberance of the men and women adorning Kaplan’s vase-like forms can certainly be read as emblematic of the artist’s zest for life, but the good times she depicts circle around the central emptiness of each vessel.” Kaplan explains: “Since that time, Buzz encouraged me to think about developing the interior of my vessels, which has resulted in several creative interiors to enhance the complex narratives of my vessels.” At Craft Alliance’s clay studio, she sculpts figures of well-known artists, authors and musicians, as well as iconic figures, such as actress Audrey Hepburn, globetrotting chef Anthony Bourdain and Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She calls her Ernest Hemingway sculpture A Moveable Feast her largest and most challenging installation: “It was a major challenge, but the process was a great learning experience.” Her Eugene O’Neill and the Women in His Life sculpture is part of the permanent collection at the Olin Library at Washington University. A 1961 graduate of University City High School, Kaplan went through a divorce and became a single parent when her two daughters were in grade school. Returning to the workforce, she embarked on a 30-year fundraising career that included stints at Jewish Federation of St. Louis, Jewish Hospital/ Barnes-Jewish Hospital Foundation, Hope Happens for Neurological Disorders, the Center for the Study of Ethics and Human Values at Washington University, Congregation B’nai Amoona and Dance St. Louis. She retired from fundraising 10 years ago and now focuses more time on her second career of creating ceramic sculptures. Kaplan enjoys riding her bicycle, working out and dancing – especially during the pandemic. “I have always loved to dance and found taking outdoor aerobics and Zumba classes during the pandemic [to be] great exercise, uplifting and fun,” she says. Kaplan, who lives in Richmond Heights, gives back to the community through her volunteerism. She has served as chair of the membership committee of Women and the Kemper at Washington University’s Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum. “These memberships support museum initiatives that directly benefit students and bring museum programming to a wide public audience,” Kaplan says. She otherwise has served on the Craft Alliance gala committee for several years. Fond of eating dark chocolate, cappuccino biscotti, and her daughter’s gelato during quarantine, she also spent her time this year creating a timeline of happenings during the COVID-19 era. She says she penned it to capture what should be a yearly Facebook reminder to both her and her friends that “life is precious, and we should not take the things we dearly love for granted.”

Mint to Be
By Alecia Humphr Humphreys Ice cream eam photo by Lance Cage
FAMILY-OWNED BOLD SPOON CREAMERY HAS DEEP ST. LOUIS ROOTS AND A PASSION FOR CONNECTING CUSTOMERS TO CREATIVE, FLAVOR-PACKED ICE CREAM.
R
achel Burns was inspired to create Bold Spoon Creamery amid the aftermath of a modest mishap. “I planted mint in our University City backyard,” says Burns, owner and founder of Bold Spoon Creamery. “When you plant it, you should actually put it in a pot because it, like, completely takes over, and I didn’t do that, and so it did completely take over. … We were giving it away, my husband was making mojitos, and it wasn’t making a dent; but it was so beautiful and green and lush.” You might say this mistake was “mint” to be (pun intended), as it ultimately led to Burns making a batch of mint ice cream – and then another and another. “We had one of those [Cuisinart ice cream machines] in our basement, and honestly, for years and years I just walked past it, paid no attention to it, didn’t think about it at all,” Burns says. “And Bold Stone Creamery facility, photo by Rachel Burns then when I had this abundance of mint I was like, ‘Oh, I love mint ice cream – I’ll do that.’ So we started making it, and I literally for the first summer only made mint ice cream. Like it honestly never occurred to me to try to make another flavor.” Once the ice cream became a fan fave among family and friends, Burns began experimenting with different flavors, different ice cream recipes and even cooking methods. “It just became obvious to me that it was more than a hobby because I was thinking about it a lot,” Burns says. “I would be walking around in a store, see an ingredient and wonder how that would be in an ice cream,
24

and then I would go home and try.” Flavors now include crowd-pleasers such as Goat Cheese with Fig Jam, Brie with Spiced Honey, Salted Chocolate, and Coffee with Chocolate Freckles, as well as seasonal offerings like Lemon Curd. “Last summer, we had the series of flavors called TGFM, which stands for Tower Grove Farmers’ Market,” Burns says. “We would pair with a different vendor and make a custom flavor around one of their products. It was fun!” The limited series is returning this year as TGFM V.5, with the latest launch featuring mulberry ice cream swirled with balsamic sauce and Yoder Family Farm strawberries. What’s also fun is that Bold Spoon Creamery prides itself on using locally sourced ingredients in all of its ice creams, such as milk and cream from Greenville, Illinois’ Rolling Lawns Farm, goat cheese from Bloomsdale, Missouri’s Baejte Farms and coffee from St. Louis’ Kuva Coffee Roasters. “We just really love to support other local small businesses,” Burns says. “We also like to use very simple, clean ingredients. By design, our ice cream really doesn’t have that many ingredients.” Although Burns broached the subject of making Bold Spoon Creamery a business in 2019, it wasn’t until March 2020 that Bold Spoon Creamery was officially “ready to go.” “That was a crazy time,” Burns says. “My business model initially was to sell to restaurants primarily, so you can imagine that in March of 2020, that was not a viable business plan because they were completely uncertain of their future.” Instead, Burns says she took to the streets with her sweets – literally. “My husband called me ‘a woman and her wagon,’” Burns says with a laugh. “I literally made ice cream, and then we had a cooler with a handle and wheel, so I’d pack it up with some dry ice and just went around my
Photos by Paige MacDonald, The Only Podge
neighborhood and gave it away. I just needed to start something, get the name out and have people taste it.” These efforts ultimately led to Bold Spoon Creamery’s first sale on May 2, 2020. Just a little over a year later, Bold Spoon Creamery ice creams can now be found at Tower Grove Farmers’ Market, six Schnucks stores, all Straub’s locations, The Woman’s Exchange, The Smokehouse Market, The Annex and Garden District STL. “It has just been this crazy evolution,” Burns says. “Its current state now is not what I thought it would be, but that’s true of virtually everything for this year. But it has turned out really spectacular.” Bold Spoon Creamery, 314-406-0765, boldspooncreamery.com

High-Tech Cleaning, Timeless Service By Maggie Peters | Photo supplied
Since 1931, Marquard’s Cleaners has built its reputation as the finest dry cleaner in St. Louis on three generations of service to the community. John Marquard began the legacy, and today, his dedication to excellence in his employees remains the backbone of Marquard’s Cleaners’ business philosophy. “We have a real passion to serve other people,” says Steve Rimell, president. “My father used to say, ‘Treat the garment as if it’s yours, but better than if it was yours.’” Rimell’s father, Harvey, was one of Marquard’s original employees and purchased the business in the mid1960s. Steve Rimell and his brother, Ken, have been helping their father since they were “as tall as the spotting board.” In addition to clothing, Marquard’s cleans area rugs, household textiles and draperies. The company also restores heirlooms and cleans and preserves wedding gowns. Marquard’s prides itself on cleaning and restoring everything, from everyday items to delicate antique fabrics. “We return n your fine clothing and household items beautifully
cleaned and pressed, according to your instructions, on time as promised,” Rimell says. Marquard’s provides a personal, individualized experience for each customer, creating relationships with repeat customers and listening to concerns and specific requests regarding fine garments. The close-knit team atmosphere allows for this kind of oldfashioned, customized service, which sets Marquard’s apart. That commitment to the original owner’s standards and personalized service are the only old-fashioned aspects of the business, however. Marquard’s techniques and tools are among the industry’s most current, and the staff learns new techniques and technologies through participation in national associations. Steve Rimell is former president of the Dry Cleaners Exchange, and Ken Rimell’s chemistry degree has served him well in understanding the science of stain removal. “Dry cleaners are everywhere,” Rimell concludes, “but you won’t find better service or quality than at Marquard’s.”

Whether an individual is recovering from a surgery or illness and in need of short-term rehabilitation or facing a longer period of skilled nursing care, McKnight Place Extended Care provides peace of mind. “We offer exceptional nursing care, as well as a full complement of therapy services, including physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy,” says marketing director Christina Schulte. Specialized therapy for specific conditions, such as lymphedema, is provided by a therapist trained to treat these disorders, and all staff members receive special training in dementia care. “In addition, our wide variety of social events helps residents stay engaged in meaningful activities throughout the day,” Schulte says. “Each resident has different preferences and needs, and our personalized care ensures that each resident’s expectations are met.” The mood is lively, as residents and staff participate in special activities designed for enrichment and enjoyment. Music therapy and art expression are popular choices, and daily exercise programs are
designed to keep residents active. Other activities are simply for fun and help maintain the community spirit. Speakers present intriguing programs that spark ideas and conversation, and small groups enjoy card games, craft projects and cooking demonstrations. The most important thing for residents and their families is quality of care, and there McKnight Place excels. “Our staff is excellent in the care they provide,” Schulte says. “We truly work as a team to make each day exceptional for our residents. One of the reasons we’re able to do this is because of the longevity in key care positions and our management team. Residents and their families benefit from having experienced, well-trained staff here to help them.” “McKnight Place Extended Care, like all of The Gatesworth communities, is locally owned,” Schulte adds. “That makes a difference to our residents, their families and employees. The owners are here, on-site, to address any concerns that may arise. They also care deeply for the community and have chosen to build senior living worthy of their own friends and family – and it shows.”

That may be a sign of a heart rhythm disorder commonly known as atrial fibrillation. “If you have symptoms of atrial fibrillation – also known as arrhythmia – such as pounding in your chest, fainting, lightheadedness, chest pain, shortness of breath or temporary inability to breathe, you should see a physician,” says St. Luke’s electrophysiologist Dr. Jonas Cooper. “The team at St. Luke’s offers a wealth of experience and the most advanced techniques to diagnose and treat atrial fibrillation and achieve outstanding patient outcomes, including stroke prevention, heart rhythm and rate control, and symptom reduction.” St. Luke’s Heart and Vascular Institute has the added advantage of being the only hospital in the area to be an official alliance member of Cleveland Clinic’s Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute. Fitness
Twenty Minutes, Real Results By Maggie Peters | Photos by Gina Grafos
20 Minutes to Fitness is a 20-minute, once-a-week workout you perform on MedX equipment with a personal coach at your side. Safe and effective, this strength-building regimen can be fine-tuned for any age and fitness level. Your initial consultation and first session are free. Read these three women’s stories, and learn how it changed their lives. “After a gunshot wound took two-thirds of my lung function six years ago, I tired easily,” says Sheila Hunt, 41 (above left). “My workout attempts produced no results. Then I tried 20 Minutes to Fitness. It was hard, but so rewarding. Within two months, my stamina improved [and] my muscle mass increased 26 percent. My doctor was blown away by my results. I had given up hope of ever getting stronger. 20 Minutes to Fitness is amazing. It is such a blessing to our family.” Sandy Bell, 61 (lower right), says: “When I was younger, I remember
meeting my sister at Elaine Powers for circuit training. Fitness wasn’t as much our concern as where we’d have breakfast afterwards. Later, I met a fit and lively older woman and asked for her secret. She sent me to 20 Minutes to Fitness. I tried it and absolutely loved it. That was 15 years ago. Today, with four children and nine grandchildren, I am constantly on the go. I feel and see the benefits every day.” “I’ve trained at 20 Minutes to Fitness since 2005,” Karen Goodman, 75 (top right), explains. “A friend recommended I try it after my husband passed away. I’d let myself go and was ready to get back in shape. I worked near their Clayton studio, and a 20-minute workout that doesn’t make you sweat sounded good. Soon I was hooked. Now I’m retired – and I still train at 20 Minutes to Fitness each week. I want the best quality of life possible, and this gives it to me. That’s why I’ve stuck with it.”

KOHLER Signature Store’s bathroom design services consist of three in-store consultations where the team works with clients on everything from concept to dimensions. Customers using this service walk away with samples of their finishes, 2D and 3D design layouts and an itemized quote for materials. However, KOHLER Signature Store by Crescent Plumbing Supply knows these challenges are temporary. “We look forward to the day when everything gets back to a bit of normalcy,” Hughett says. “As a small company, teamwork is key to keeping spirits up and negativity down,” she adds. “We have an amazing team in place that really enjoys coming into the showroom every day and working together.”

Exceptional Living for Active Seniors By Maggie Peters | Photos by The Gatesworth
Life at The Gatesworth has been purposefully and thoughtfully designed to suit the older adults in our community who want to continue to live well and be active. Executive Director Carrie Montrey says, “Since the community’s opening in 1988, our goal has been to create a warm, comfortable, welcoming and vibrant environment for our residents – and that’s exactly what we’ve achieved over the years.” The Gatesworth features world-class amenities, including a modern, fully equipped fitness center complete with a heated, indoor saltwater pool, as well as certified, on-site trainers. The community also offers a full-service spa, a 100-seat theater, a computer center, a library, a bank, a greenhouse and more. The lush grounds offer outdoor spaces punctuated by a reflection pond – home to the community’s family of ducks – and a putting green, two dining areas and a pavilion. Meals are prepared by Brian Hardy, an award-winning chef, and his team.
The Gatesworth has been named one of the top 10 places to retire in America by Forbes, and Ladue News readers have voted it St. Louis’ best retirement community for numerous years. Its success is grounded in two core values for residents: choice and opportunity. The Gatesworth also keeps strong ties to the surrounding community. It remains a locally owned business, and the three original owners either work on-site or are available by phone or email to residents, staff and management. “We work to maintain that reputation every day and keep raising the bar by which we measure ourselves because it’s the right thing to do for those who call The Gatesworth home,” Montrey says. “We encourage and support a vibrant, active lifestyle. Instead of worrying about maintaining a home, our residents take art classes, garden or improve their golf game, or they take time to discover new passions. They are living their best lives.”

A Team Approach to Bespoke Designs By Maggie Peters
Founded in the fall of 2009, Savvy Design Group began as a residential firm in Ladue, but subsequently expanded into boutique commercial work in 2016. “We specialize in high-end design services focused on functional, thoughtful spaces with chic details,” explains owner Diane Mantovani. “Whether it’s a new construction, a remodel or reinventing an existing space, we have the skill, education and experience to tackle the project.” All designers and staff at Savvy Design Group have continual education in the design field and take a collaborative approach to design, to ensure each project is a simple and enjoyable process. Two design professionals follow each project from concept to completion, and through having a design team, the management, communication and attention to detail are unparalleled. A unique partnership is formed
among the client, the designer and the project manager to achieve bespoke designs. As a project is being planned, Mantovani explains that a strong sense of partnership is key to coordinate and implement all design elements, selections and decisions. Internally, the team members at Savvy Design Group have regular meetings to review projects and offer both creative and practical ideas. Through supporting one another and taking a team approach, the team achieves results in the form of the most beautiful and unique spaces for each client. “We have a small but very efficient team,” Mantovani confirms. “We are very collaborative, which means we basically check our egos at the door. We meet regularly to discuss challenges and design inspiration. We learn our best lessons from each other.”

The Diamond Bar may have just celebrated its second anniversary, but its legacy carries more than 16 years in experience thanks to owner and expert jeweler Chris Phillips. The Diamond Bar specializes in design, jewelry repair, diamonds, gemstones, watches and so much more. “The Diamond Bar also specializes in custom jewelry, which allows our clients to have truly unique pieces,” Phillips says. “While we always try to stay up to date with current trends, we create our own one of kind pieces to be ahead of it, too.” The Diamond Bar’s top priorities are educating clients and putting them first. “We believe the jewelry industry has a deficiency in education,” Phillips notes. Being in the business of customer service, the store has built its reputation on amazing clients, who appreciate the time The Diamond Bar takes to educate them in a comfortable space – alongside the store’s
competitive pricing and top quality. Clients at The Diamond Bar can always enjoy a warm, welcoming shopping experience – while enjoying your favorite beverage – in what Phillips describes as a family environment. “When you visit our store, you will always see myself and my designer, Jess,” he says. “We feel seeing a familiar face who knows your name is a great way to start any relationship.” The pair also work closely on many designs and Phillips jokes that they often feel they can read each other’s mind. This cohesive work environment allows each client to feel appreciated and important. If you are seeking a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry or turning an old piece into something new, look to The Diamond Bar to exceed your expectations!

Designing the Extraordinary By Maggie Peters | Photos supplied
Every space deserves to feel personal, with your personality speaking through all the details. Since its founding in 2006, Karr Bick Kitchen & Bath has been dedicated to designing for people rather than for awards. The Karr Bick mission is to create customer-inspired spaces that no one wants to leave. Its team, showroom, product selection, process and resources all work toward that end. “Our focus is to create an experience for our clients,” explains founder Jenny Rausch. “Everything from planning all the way through installation, we work hard to make them feel a ‘Nothing Ordinary’ experience. People come and ask us for that. That’s what they want.” In 2019, Karr Bick merged with City Lights Design + Build. This epic merger saw two St. Louis historic design and construction titans that have worked together for two decades become one powerhouse company.
This means the Nothing Ordinary experience now extends to new construction, full-house renovations, room additions, kitchens, baths and “wherever” spaces. Customers get an easy, seamless process with the best collaboration possible. In 2020, Karr Bick welcomed Ashley Willman Obradovits to head the company’s new interior design department, which aims to bring the Karr Bick standard of quality and detail to the entire home. Obradovits, daughter of the late accomplished local designer, Sonja Willman (Summer House), carries on her mother’s legacy with her own touch: “I like to take an outside-the-box approach with my clients, mixing old and new to create a space that is truly unique and tells a personal story.” If you need a new space, book a free consultation with a Karr Bick designer, or download the Plan Now resource to help you get started.

Memoryy Care
Leading The Way in Memory Care By Maggie Peters | Photos courtesy of Parc Provence
For many with Alzheimer’s disease and other cognitive diseases, one common and significant change is the move from home care to a residential care community. You can reduce this anxiety by offering your loved one a sense of familiarity and continuity. “At Parc Provence, a licensed skilled-nursing community, we specialize in caring for people with dementia,” says administrator Kathy Aragon. “That specialization includes providing all residents with support and medical care at each stage of the disease.” With more than 30 years of nursing experience, Aragon’s career has focused on long-term care. She understands that dementia is challenging for those with the illness and for their loved ones, who must come to terms with the disease. “Families of seniors in need of memory care are looking for education, support and compassionate care,” Aragon says. “Many of our families have chosen Parc Provence because they want a residential community that offers memory care and medical expertise at all stages.”
Parc Provence offers extensive programs, one-on-one services and amenities tailored to each resident’s cognitive and social abilities, enabling them to function at their highest potential. “We conduct regular assessments of each resident’s abilities and needs to allow for individual change,” Aragon adds. The expert staff has completed extensive training in all aspects of dementia and Alzheimer’s care. Medical director Dr. David B. Carr and associate medical director Dr. Lenise Cummings-Vaughn are leading specialists in Alzheimer’s disease and geriatric medicine at Washington University School of Medicine. They ensure all residents receive the best care available. A move to a residential community like Parc Provence – one that offers personalized treatment plans and a continuum of care – may eliminate the need for another relocation in the future. Aragon concludes: “We work with new residents and their families before the move and can offer advice and support that will help make the transition easier. Our residents’ comfort and care are our top priority.”

Tree Service
Best & Nothing Less By Maggie Peters | Photos by Rite-A-Way Tree Service, LLC
At Rite-A-Way Tree Service, LLC, promising to be the best demands more than words. It requires consistent action to deliver first-rate products and service – and clients would agree that this comprehensive lawn service company delivers. In operation since 1974, Rite-A-Way Tree Service, LLC was established on family principles with the aim of becoming the No. 1 tree company in the greater St. Louis area and beyond. Brad Stricker, the secondgeneration owner of the business, has taken on his father’s values and trustworthiness to continue producing the highest quality of work, ensuring each and every customer is satisfied with their service. The complete tree maintenance company can manage any sized job, from tree and stump removals to trimming and pruning with manual climbers, and can also provide bucket truck and crane truck services. As Rite-A-Way Tree Service, LLC stands by the Stricker legacy, it
continually strives to impress its clients. One way in which it succeeds is in training employees to have highly valuable skills that they present in a nice, professional manner while always prioritizing safety first. The fully insured Missouri certified arborists also excel at dead wooding and thinning, and storm clean-up. Educated in the latest technology, employees integrate new and better safety techniques while aiming to perform the best quality work for their customers at all times. Today, Stricker applies his passion and knowledge for the tree care industry – something he learned from his father – to make his family’s company more than just a familiar name. The way a pristine landscape can offer peace of mind and inspire all who see it, so does Rite-A-Way Tree Service, LLC in its top-of-class performance on each and every project. Accept nothing less than the best to take care of your next tree service need.

Vascular Vascular Care Connections
exper xpertise
By Maggie Peters | Photo courtesy of St. Luke’s Heart and Vascular Institute
Just as bones connect to one another, the same can be said for the human heart and the body’s intricate system of arteries and veins, known as the vascular system. “Most Americans are familiar with heart disease and the consequences of blockages in the vessels that carry blood to the heart,” says St. Luke’s Heart and Vascular Institute surgeon Dr. Brian Peterson. “Fewer people realize that blockages and problems can occur in other arteries throughout the body to disastrous effect.” Types of artery disease include carotid artery disease (buildup of plaque in the arteries of the neck), aneurysms (a bulge in a weakened part of an artery) and peripheral artery disease (a narrowing of blood vessels). Since the vascular system connects to the heart, vascular disease also creates an increased risk for heart disease, heart attack or stroke. Early detection and proactive management of vascular disease are key to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Ultrasound screenings are recommended for patients over age 50 and those with preexisting cardiovascular disease risk factors. “We offer minimally invasive and surgical treatment options if a problem is detected,” Peterson says. “We also treat the full spectrum of venous disorders, including varicose veins and deep vein thrombosis.”

Client-Centric Support
By Maggie Peters | Photo courtesy of The Arbor Group at Morgan Stanley
Founded in 2017 as a joint venture of three smaller practices composed of Adam Bichsel, Robert Millner and John Moore, the Arbor Group at Morgan Stanley is dedicated to providing clients with unwavering support, much like the structure for which it takes its name. Today the group has six long-tenured financial advisors including three CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professionals (Moore, Bichsel and Michael Keegan) working to help protect, grow and strengthen clients’ wealth. “By merging three strong practices, we’re able to create a lot of synergy and really deepen our client service model,” explains Bichsel, who serves as the senior vice president of The Arbor Group. Bichsel adds that the team spans multiple generations and can therefore come at questions of financial planning and wealth management from different angles. Members of The Arbor Group have received industry recognition over the years, including Bichsel featuring in Forbes magazine’s 2019 list of
“Best-in-State Next-Gen Wealth Advisors” and Millner named to Barron’s magazine’s 2020 list of “Top 1,200 Financial Advisors.” Moore was also named to Forbes’ 2018 list of “America’s Best in State Wealth Advisors.” The Arbor Group provides financial planning, wealth management, asset management, retirement planning and more, and the team values nurturing long-term relationships with clients by working with multiple generations within the families of clients they serve. It’s because of this dedication that The Arbor Group has a policy of assigning two advisors to each client. The concierge-style service is tailored to the needs of each individual client, while working to be a “one-stop” shop for wealth management. The team keeps a deliberately managed number of clients to ensure those they serve are getting full attention. “It’s rewarding to help people with complex situations and resolve them,” Bichsel concludes. “We try to bring a lot of professionalism to our processes and our approach.”

Weigght Loss
Weight Loss That Works for You By Maggie Peters | Photos by Canon Shots Photography
The Washington University Nonsurgical Endoscopic Weight Loss Program takes a personalized approach to weight loss. By evaluating your medical history, eating patterns and lifestyle behavior, its board-certified and fellowship-trained gastroenterologists deliver exceptional patientcentered care. Clients are supported every step of the way during the 12-month program, including medical follow-up care, lifestyle behavior coaching and dietary guidance. Physical therapy evaluations would be recommended for patients with barriers to movement. Endoscopic weight loss procedures include endoscopic gastric outlet repair, which helps stop the regain of weight after gastric bypass. Another FDA-approved therapy offered is endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty. These safe and effective procedures have been performed more than 100 times by Vladimir Kushnir, MD.
Benefits of endoscopic weight loss procedures include lower risk than weight loss surgery, shorter recovery times and wider limit, making treatment available to a wider range of patients. Candidates are anyone over 22 who is at least 30 pounds overweight with no weight loss success through diet and exercise. In collaboration with BJC HealthCare, the bariatric endoscopy team will evaluate your readiness for change and guide you in making your own behavioral and lifestyle changes. The team provides in-person and telehealth aftercare, behavioral coaching and dietary guidance from team members, including dietitians who are also certified diabetes educators. As you learn to use the resources offered before and after your procedure, this experienced team is available to you on every step of your weight loss journey.

Wellness
Concierge Women’s Health Service in a Supportive Space By Maggie Peters | Photos by Evora Women’s Health
Evora Women’s Health was founded in 2020 by Dr. Becky Lynn when she felt that traditional medicine did not offer the time necessary or the ability to cover preventive health care while also addressing symptoms or problems in one visit. Because insurance companies prevent physicians from doing wellness visits and “problem” visits on the same day, patients are left with a brief or rushed visit, unable to address all aspects of health. “By being a concierge practice, Evora Women’s Health brings holistic health care solutions together in one collaborative, supportive space so that we can treat the whole you, not just your condition, with as much time as you need during your visit,” Lynn explains. Lynn is a board-certified gynecologist, specializing in menopause, sexual health and weight loss and offering preventive care and routine gynecological care for all ages. She is nationally and internationally known in the menopause and sexual health (such as low libido or painful sex) space and strives to stay current in her specialties by being involved
with national societies and organizations. “We offer a variety of procedures,” Lynn says. “Vaginal rejuvenation for vaginal dryness or painful sex, Emsella – a breakthrough technology to treat incontinence – and Breezing Pro, the gold standard in measuring your metabolic rate.” Evora Women’s Health also offers mental health therapy, life coaching, physical therapy, dietary counseling, personal training and massage therapy. Lynn and her team get to know everyone on a personal level, and you are provided with personal contact information so you can reach them around the clock. “The team at Evora all have the same mission – empowering women to lead healthy lives,” Lynn concludes. “Each of us does our part to help women succeed, reach their goals and be healthy. We provide integrated, holistic care. Our team rocks!

GROOMING & GLAMOUR
SmallBatch & Sustainable By Amanda Dahl
L
ocal artist and social entrepreneur Jenny Murphy’s all-natural line called Not Makeup is gaining traction with a loyal client base. The small-batch cheek and lip tints, glosses, balms and scents are giving consumers the power to treat their skin and selves in a sustainable fashion. “It’s in the name,” Murphy says. “It’s ‘not makeup.’ It shifts the idea that makeup is permanent and alters your face. It’s a different way to use it, a different mindset of how to take care of and adorn your skin.” Murphy began the product line during the COVID-19 pandemic, though she had been making and using her own beauty products for years. The founder and former executive director of Perennial, a local nonprofit that teaches people how to live sustainable and self-sufficient lives, also works as an artist and a teacher. Launching Not Makeup allowed her to combine her passions as a maker and advocate for the environment by creating zero-waste products. “All of the products I use are natural waxes that moisturize and improve the quality of your skin,” Murphy describes. “I add color from plants. I use all compostable packaging. Even the tubes [the products] come in are paper-based.” She also sources materials from a limited number of suppliers that pride themselves on using organic, ethically and sustainably harvested ingredients. “That is something magical to me about the brand,” Murphy says. “When you buy stuff, it’s [often] always stuff in your life. When you use this balm or gloss, it disappears, like it never existed. To think of this product as going away as you’re using it – that it has no impact in that way – is cool.” The artist and producer prefers keeping her new business hyperlocal, in an effort to not become motivated from a capitalistic perspective to grow larger. “I like the idea of having deeper connections with the work that I do and the people who have my products,” she says.
62
JUNE 25, 2021 | LadueNews.com
Not Makeup draws inspiration not only from the world around it but also from its customers, who often share on social media the common and unique ways of using the beauty products. Murphy was impressed when a customer applied the all-purpose balm, with healing properties from a medicinal flower, to her eyebrows after microblading. “It’s exciting to see where others take the products,” Murphy shares. “[As] the producer, I’m looking at the ingredients and the chain of where those are coming from, and also thinking about the full circle, what the end-of-life is like for the product.” That thought process has led to partnerships with like-minded businesses, including Webster Groves’ Dharma + Dwell, where Not Makeup features a line of body oils. Murphy has her eye out
for additional opportunities to collaborate with sustainable brands and boutiques. Murphy confirms she is currently crafting eyeliners, brow fillers and waxes to extend Not Makeup’s lineup.

In our vegetable and herb gardens, the family includes globe and Jerusalem artichokes, sunflowers, wormwood, culinary dandelion, safflower, lettuce, chicory, tansy, burdock and stevia. As their common characteristic, the “flower” head actually comprises many tiny individual flowers, not just a single bloom, like an apple or a rose. In many genera, the flowers are specialized into minute bell-shaped disk flowers that form the eye and radiating straplike flowers forming the outer circle of rays – so when you pluck a “petal” from a daisy, you’re actually pulling off an entire flower. In the wild Missouri garden or roadside prairie, summer brings an explosion of color from composites, with every rainbow shade from icy lemon yellow to rich amethyst purple, as a myriad of species bloom freely. I flipped through the pages of Volume 2 of Steyermark’s Flora of Missouri to find 434 pages – a third of the book – filled with descriptions and illustrations of aster relatives native to our state. It’s the largest plant family found here, with nearly 80 genera, including several with many species, such as asters and goldenrods. Along the colorful spectrum are violet ageratums, blackeyed Susans, blazing star liatris, lavender-rose coneflowers, blue cornflowers, yellow compass plants, golden Alexanders and coreopsis, magenta ironweeds, rosy joe-pye weeds, prairie docks, pink pussytoes, golden ragworts, vivid sunflowers and purple thistles. You can see dozens of species in bloom by taking a road trip to the Whitmire Wildflower Garden and prairie restorations at Shaw Nature

Reserve in Gray Summit, roughly 35 miles southwest of Ladue. Make notes of what you like to prepare your shopping list for the fall in-person native plant sale on Sept. 10. You can bring some of this exciting palette into your own space with one of the most popular composites for home gardens, formal or wild: the coneflower, Echinacea. With a handful of native species and a tidal wave of newer hybrids, there are dozens of choices in the market. Mt. Cuba Center in Hockessin, Delaware, recently tested 75 species and selections in its trial
gardens. Rating them for longevity, horticultural value and pollinator attraction over a three-year test, the center shortlisted the top performers. Echinacea purpurea, Pica Bella, which topped trials a decade ago, still placed first. Sensation Pink, Santa Fe, KISMET Raspberry, Snow Cone, Postman, Glowing Dream, Purple Emperor, Fragrant Angel, KISMET Intense Orange, Hot Coral and Julia rated outstanding. None of the fancy double-flowered forms made the grade with pollinators, so keep with the singles to feed the bees and butterflies!

ONE ST. LOUIS SHOE DESIGNER RECENTLY LAUNCHED AN INTERIOR DESIGN FIRM WITH A MISSION TO CREATE BEAUTIFUL, LIVABLE HOMES.
M
ultitasker Danielle Kalish isn’t just a St. Louis shoe designer – she’s also an interior designer. The local mother of two and Caleres (formerly Brown Shoe) design director recently launched Parklyn Interiors. A mashup of her toddlers’ names – Parker, 2, and Dylan, 4 – Parklyn offers a mix of modern and traditional interiors with a twist, aiming to create beautiful, statement-making homes that are also cozy and livable. “My design aesthetic is transitional, but with more of an edge than that,” Kalish says. “I take more of the personality of the client and incorporate that and give it more of a twist, so it’s polished – not perfect – as well as layered and lived-in. I really want people to love the spaces and want them to be able to live in them.” Kalish admits her career path has been a winding road – she studied fashion merchandising and marketing at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau and always envisioned herself in the ready-to-wear garment world. Now, with Parklyn, she’s bringing her eye for fashion design to interiors. Her creative vision has even led her to use an avant-garde, strappy summer sandal with beach vibes as a jumping-off point for a client’s room addition on the back of the house entering the pool area, noting the homeowner “wanted it to feel like she’s on vacation.” Parklyn is a passion project for Kalish, who fancies finding ways to make homes both beautiful and functional for everyday life. The multifaceted designer was tasked with doing just that at one favorite recent project for a client in Ladue’s La Hacienda neighborhood. Formerly the home of the client’s grandparents, the property possessed a 1970s interior design aesthetic that needed a makeover fit for the modern era, Kalish explains. The gut renovation included a new floor plan that improved the flow from the garage into a mudroom, pantry and kitchen that now faces the family room. “It was really dark and had so many great windows for natural light, so it was just a matter of taking down some of those walls … , and just adding a wide-plank white oak floor made such a difference,” she explains. “It’s now lighter and brighter, so it looks bigger … , and it’s more modern and practical to today’s living.” The next project Parklyn will be tackling, while Kalish still juggles client design work, is a full renovation of her own family’s new home in the University Heights neighborhood. “It’s a 1930s Georgian Colonial traditional-style home,” she says. “The bones are beautiful, and the former owner we bought it from has some original photos of it from the Washington University Archives, so we’re looking forward to bringing it back to its original glory.” Kalish draws design inspiration from her family’s everyday life, as well as the evolving world she experiences during her travels to Europe and Asia in search of the latest trends as a shoe designer. As for today’s interior design trends, she “loves how there are almost no rules anymore – people can really make it their own.” Kalish also is loving the toning down of the open-concept approach to homes: “We’re creating rooms again, achieving a classic setup that has good flow to it instead of just having one big room.”
72
JUNE 25, 2021 | LadueNews.com
Additionally, a bright spot of the COVID-19 pandemic has been the movement toward designing better, long-term work-from-home environments, Kalish says: “It’s great making a space that’s fun to work in every day instead of the gray cubicle … making it more relaxing and functional – and adding a little bit of your personality to it.” And don’t forget about the wallpaper fad, she adds, “[which] can add so much personality to a space.” For Kalish, inspiration starts at home and from learning from her own growing family to help meet the design needs of other families. Whether it’s for her own loved ones or a client, at Parklyn, every project is personal, she notes: “I really enjoy doing it, and my clients tell me that I’m doing the same for them.” Parklyn Interiors, parklyninteriors.com

Morning Glory Diner By Mabel Suen
O
n Cherokee Street, chef Ari Jo Ellis offers her from-scratch “greasy spoon”-style breakfast fare in a unique, colorful setting: Morning Glory Diner. “It’s classic American diner food with a fromscratch take and locally sourced ingredients,” Ellis says of the eatery, which debuted in February 2019 and offers both dine-in service and limited curbside takeouts. “It has a different feel than Courtesy or Tiffany’s, though. We really wanted to create an environment that makes people want to come back often. I really want the feel of this place to be something different and be something special.” Ellis owns Morning Glory Diner with general manager David Stavron. The duo also owns local fabrication company EllisStavron; in fact, they

created many of the handcrafted metalwork and sculptures that decorate the eatery alongside other local art. When Morning Glory Diner opened, Ellis also brought her own touches to brighten the already beautifully renovated space, such as her great-grandmother’s vintage kitchen accessories and a classic jukebox. From the variable menu, customers can choose from such all-day breakfast options as Ellis’ personal favorite: from-scratch biscuits and gravy. The dish features house-made breakfast sausage made into a gravy atop buttermilk biscuits. Additional staples include options like a slinger, with sausage, hash browns, American cheese and two eggs, smothered in vegetarian chili. Chicken and johnnycakes, or cornmeal pancakes, features buttermilk chicken with
cornmeal breading, served with a side of syrup. Morning Glory Diner uses locally sourced chicken and bacon from area companies, among them St. Libory, Illinois’ acclaimed Wenneman Meat Co. A newer addition to the menu, the Boagie, features a scrambled egg and cheese served on a toasted hoagie from St. Louis’ Union Loafers. The popular sandwich also can include bacon, sausage and fried chicken. Rotating specials include homemade apple pie, beignets and more. To drink, Morning Glory Diner offers options like drip coffee from St. Louis’ Protagonist Cafe, Coca-Cola products and orange juice. A liquor license is pending.

ARTS SPEAK
THE MUNY: 2021 EDITION By Mark Bretz
W
ith COVID-19-related business restrictions being lifted both locally and nationally, The Muny is preparing for its 2021 season with some modifications. The traditional seven-show schedule, which originally was slated to start July 5 and include all shows postponed from the canceled 2020 season, has been updated. The Muny season now is slated to start July 26 and will feature five productions, opening with the jukebox musical Smokey Joe’s Cafe, from July 26 to Aug. 1. That’s followed by the perennial favorite The Sound of Music, from Aug. 3 to 9, and the venerable Seven Brides for Seven Brothers from Aug. 12 to 18. New to The Muny and next on the slate is On Your Feet!, the jukebox musical based on the lives and music of the husband-and-wife team of Emilio and Gloria Estefan, which runs Aug. 21 to 27. The season then concludes with Chicago, the smash hit by John Kander and Fred Ebb, which opens Aug. 30 and closes the season on Sept. 5. In May, The Muny had announced a 60 percent seating capacity in the 11,000-seat amphitheater. However, in early June, with the support of the City of St. Louis Health Department, The Muny subsequently stated its 2021 season will take place at full capacity, including the 1,500 free seats available for each performance on a first-

come, first-served basis. Kwofe Coleman – the managing director for The Muny, who will become its president and CEO when Denny Reagan retires at the end of the year – says that with the late summer start, the decision was made to delete two shows from this year’s schedule: Mary Poppins and Sweeney Todd. “Mary Poppins was dropped because vaccinations for young kids are not a thing yet,” Coleman explains, “and with a show such as Mary Poppins, a lot of people want to see it, but a lot of them are kids. “As for Sweeney Todd,” Kwofe adds, “the size of it is a big production and a new one for us. Coming back after two years, the schedule dictated for us to get down to updated protocols, living day to day with the latest information.” Thus, The Muny deemed it best to hold Sweeney Todd, along with Mary Poppins, until next year, when the theater can fully devote its resources and efforts to mounting a production of a musical as daunting as the former for its initial Muny presentation. Although seating capacity will not be limited or socially distanced, The Muny “strongly encourages”
anyone who has not been vaccinated against COVID-19 to wear a mask at all times while on Muny grounds, except when eating or drinking. Concession stands, kiosks and other retail transactions will be cashless. Coleman says that the “Culver Pavilion will not be available in 2021, but we will have concession stands and prepackaged food and beverage options.” New state-of-the-art metal detection scanners will allow patrons to pass through security checkpoints without delays associated with bag checks, and hand sanitizer dispensers will be available throughout The Muny. As for The Muny staff, Kwofe says the institution intends to hire “800 seasonal employees. We’ll run the house like we normally run it.” After nearly two years since its last full-fledged production onstage in the Forest Park amphitheater, The Muny’s faithful audiences will at long last be ready for musical theater “under the stars.”

. Lohr Vineyards & Wines, a name well-known among oenophiles, was founded by Jerry Lohr more than 50 years ago. Lohr, who grew up on a farm in South Dakota, used all of his
agricultural experience and skill when he set forth to plant vineyards in California. Lohr decided on two little-known locations on the central coast. He chose the Arroyo Seco area for its cooler climate and rocky soils, which made it ideal for growing chardonnay. Roughly 75 miles south, he also chose the Golden State’s Paso Robles American Viticultural Area, citing it as an exemplary location for concentrating on Bordeaux varietals. These wine areas now number among the most popular and well-known along the central coast, with J. Lohr one of the foremost names for wine from there. Sustainability has always been an important practice at J. Lohr, which works hard not only to preserve ecology on the land and in the vineyards but also to ensure the highest quality of wine produced. Lohr’s extensive experience in agriculture has influenced not only his namesake company but also surrounding wine areas.
Of the many varietals and styles of wines produced at J. Lohr, the Wildflower Valdiguié ranks as a rare gem. A dark but refreshingly light-bodied wine, its namesake grapes ripen late in the season and flourish in Arroyo Seco’s windy climate. From extensive pruning of the vine to careful attention to vinification, including whole-cluster fermentation, the wine made from those grapes taste truly unique and delicious. Made in the Beaujolais style, the Wildflower Valdiguié possesses many of the same attributes of Beaujolais while retaining its own identity and distinctiveness. Food Pairings: Savor this wine either at room temperature or slightly chilled, with light cheeses and fresh fruit, charcuterie, white meats and vinaigrette salads.

WILD CRUSH WINE BAR(N) HOPES TO PROVIDE A UNIQUE, RUSTIC WINERY EXPERIENCE HERE IN THE METRO AREA.
C
o-owners Jay Delsing and Karen Paslawski hope area residents and visitors will have much more than just a summer crush on their new Town and Country wine bar long after it makes its debut this July. Wild Crush Wine Bar(n) inhabits a rustic property on the Blacksmith Grove development at 13360 Clayton Road, with a patio overlooking a lakeside park and Town Square. “The whole atmosphere of this place is going to be modeled after the wineries out in Defiance and out in Augusta, Missouri,” Delsing describes. “We are going to try to mimic those beautiful settings, just with a different product.”
The goal is to provide an idyllic winery experience closer to St. Louis and offer a wide variety of wines through a self-serve system. Patrons can sample Californian, Spanish and Italian wines and more – “anything that we think is delicious,” Delsing says of the selection – by using the card-activated dispensing machines. “We’ll put an amount of money on your card, and we’ll explain how the machines work – it’s really, really simple – and then, basically, turn you loose to go try some wine!” Delsing explains. Just find the wine you’d like to try, hold your glass up to the machine and choose an amount between a 2-ounce taste and full-glass pour. Bottles will also be available to purchase, along with frosé ( frozen rosé) and other seasonal sips. In terms of food, expect charcuterie meats, cheeses, nuts and dessert boards, plus other small plates and sharable options. “We’re trying to provide a really cool, relaxing
environment for people to come meet new friends, connect with old friends and enjoy some [live] music,” Delsing envisions. “Music is going to be a big part of what we do.” Wild Crush has partnered with the city of Town and d Country on its 2021 outdoor concert series, which begaan in May and continues with shows on the second Friday of each month through September. The Wild Crush package, one of three ticket options, includes a lawn seaat at the Town Square, a charcuterie cone and two drinks for $27 per individual. Details and artist lineups are posted at town-and-country.org/379/Events. Delsing says requests to host weddings and other events at the wine barn are already pouring in and aree being handled by Paslawski’s daughter, Lexie. Lexie Paslawski is managing partner of Wild Crush and a part-time local event planner for Belleville’s Signed Sealed Delivered Events. “There’s so many different things that we can bring to the table, I think, for events and to help raise money
for charities,” Delsing says. He encourages those interested in booking an event to chat with Lexie Paslawski via lexie@wildcrushstl.com. A native of the metro area, Delsing is proud to be part of establishing this business close to home. His professional golf career has taken him to cities in California, Colorado, Nebraska, Puerto Rico and other areas of the country, but now he’s settled in Creve Coeur. “I’ve been traveling around the world as a professional golfer, and I’ve seen a lot of things that I really admire, and this place is as beautiful as I’ve seen,” Delsing gushes.
