Black & White

Being a personal favourite, black and white are as similar as different! The timeless black with its elegancy, drama and eternity is just as attractive and irresistible as the pure, feminine and serene white. They are a pure example of how beautifully opposites can attract... Their beauty is in their difference and their secret timeless success year after year lies in their divert compatibility regardless of their differences and styles. Look in your self closet and search for ur differences, your unique traits, your sole black and whites... You will have some dark, deep black parts and other areas will look heaven in white. Work on the black and make peace with it and spread the white wider. (Not that i am talking of making yourself closet a polka dots shirt!) Just work on maintaining the balance between both colours in a way to create peace in you and glamour reflected on your looks. I know when we mention black & white, evil grey is somewhere around! Listening closely and waiting to intrude our color schema! Grey is a great color (and a must have this fall!) yet is only needed when you are confused to which color to opt for. It’s never a lifestyle color - unlike black and white. Use grey when you in confusion, when you are thinking, when you need time to make up your mind but then just change it quickly and try to turn it magically to splendid white. If you can’t turn them to whites, then make sure they are graceful blacks! With fall’2014 full of black and whites (and greys!) we wish you a fantastic, fashionable season ahead! With lots of peaceful, happy white and just elegant, chic blacks!

LADYBIRD LOVES Rupert Sanderson The LUXURY DESIGNER

I

n a moment of madness or divine intervention Rupert Sanderson resigned from a disastrous career in advertising to learn how to make shoes at the Cordwainers College in East London. During the summer break of the two year course he rode a motorbike to Italy to visit as many shoe factories, tanneries and last makers as he could. In a very short time he was working in Italy firstly for Sergio Rossi and then Bruno Magli. Rupert is very proud to have been able to work with the founders and their families of both these companies before they were bought by larger luxury goods companies’, it has stood him in good stead with the closely knit Italian shoe making community. His design philosophy is simply ‘less is more’. Avoiding augmentation and over dressing the foot he concentrates on perfecting line, volume and material to flatter and lengthen the leg, and make women feel sexier. His inspiration comes from the materials themselves; from the sensual curve and silhouettes of 12 | November 2014

the lasts and heels, to the quality and finish of the best leather and fabrics. Rupert Sanderson has a flagship store in 19 Bruton Place, London and in March 2010 opened his first international store on 8 On Lan Street, Hong Kong. Rupert Sanderson designed the shoes for Karl Lagerfeld’s mainline catwalk collection. In 2008 Rupert Sanderson founded Fashion Fringe Shoes with Colin McDowell, with the aim of discovering and nurturing a new range of design talent. Rupert Sanderson was awarded the British Fashion Council’s Accessory Designer of the Year in 2008 and the 2009 Accessory Designer at the Elle Style Awards. Finally, to complement his obsessive passion with the Italian craft of shoe making, every pair of Rupert Sanderson shoes is named after a Daffodil. How very British! While winning awards for his design skills and having his shoes worn by the world’s most glamorous and high profile women, it is his love and understanding of the highly specialist techniques that constantly inspire and fire his imagination. There are over 120 individual processes involved in designing and making a shoe, each of which needs an intricate understanding and appreciation in order to bring to life the often highly conceptual designs. The skills and “hand” built up over generations in our own factory high in the Italian Apennine hills ensures that techniques are nurtured and handed down. It is the alchemy of a designer with very British sensibilities and his love and desire to grow the increasingly scarce shoemaking skills that makes Rupert Sanderson shoes some of the most desirable in the world. FASHION NEWS Coach Teams Up With Your Favorite Cartoons

John Galliano Is Back! John Galliano has been out of the fashion game since 2011, when he was ousted from Dior (as well as his namesake line) following a highly publicized anti-Semitic outburst. There was an apology tour, a trial, and a brief consulting stint at Oscar de la Renta, but Galliano showed no signs of returning to the industry he once dominated, until now. John Galliano is headed to Maison Martin Margiela where he will serve as creative director for all of Margiela’s lines, including men’s and women’s ready-to-wear and couture. Galliano is expected to show his first collection for Margiela in January 2015, for couture. Welcome back!

Gwyneth Paltrow to Launch Goop Clothing Line After announcing the site’s new CEO, Lisa Gersh, Goop and Paltrow reveal they will also be launching a clothing line. In the past year or so, Paltrow has tapped her designer pals from Michael Kors to Diane von Furstenberg and Stella McCartney to create exclusive capsule collections for Goop, but starting in 2015, the actress/lifestyle guru will create a line of wardrobe basics. And Goop won’t stop there: The brand also has plans to eventually expand to beauty and home goods, as well.

22 | November 2014

Launching first at Colette in Paris on October 13th and then on Coach.com on the 24th, the collection include bags and small accessories embossed with everyone’s favorite Peanuts characters. A small collection of T-shirts and black leather Snoopy dolls will also be offered, each with a signature and identifying number in the series. The collaboration also marks the introduction of Coach’s first official app, which will allow users to shop, of course, but also do fun things like take a quiz to find out which Peanuts character you’re most like, and upload photos that Lucy, Charlie, Snoopy, and the like will photobomb.

Top Ten Fall 2014 Must-Haves

W

By: Maha Abdel-Latif

ith the cool autumn months amongst us, it’s time to say ‘hello’ to cuddling under the blanket, drinking plenty of hot chocolate, and, of course, that wonderfully-chic fall wardrobe! Famous for being the season of all things chic, fall is your chance to embrace classic looks and layer on your favorite trending pieces. Keep reading to find out which top ten pieces are your absolute essentials to stay on-trend this season.

• Bulky Sweaters: Warm, cozy, and always a fall favorite, give this must-have a little shape by adding a thin belt at the waist. • Anything Beige: This season, bring out your khaki pants, camel coats, and tan blazers and give your black pieces some time off. • Pleated Skirts: Simple and feminine – need I say more? • Vests: Leather, fur, denim – whichever your choose, keep your vests at arm’s reach this season! • Wide-Leg Pants: This simple piece will instantly give you elegance and sophistication beyond your years. • Maxi Dresses/Skirts: Don’t put away those summer maxis just yet! With maxis still a major trend for the cooler season, pair your maxi piece with a cropped, denim jacket or a top cinched at the waist, and you’re good to go. 26 | November 2014

• Turtlenecks: These babies just keep coming back! Good news is turtlenecks are not only a way to add that instant classic sophistication to your outfit, but they’re practical in fighting that intense cold weather that is slowly making its way to Cairo. • Tartan and Classic Plaid: Rest assured that this classic print isn’t going anywhere just yet – and with good reason. Trying wearing a coat in this classic fall print and pair it with your favorite boots for an on-trend, pulled-together look. • Statement Earrings: Dress up a simple button-up with a pair of bold, eye-catching earrings • Animal Prints: Show off your bolder side this season and accessorize your fall outfit with an animal print scarf, bag, or loafers!

lumea, the revolutinary depilation solution by philips

Olaf koning General Manager PHILIPS EGYPT LLC

Tell us about your childhood, parents? I am born and raised in a place called Groningen in the north of the Netherlands. I had a nice childhood with carrying parents and an awesome crazy brother. Soccer played a big role in my youth together with studying (a lot). At that time it felt a bit as an obligation, now I understand how much it has contributed to my life and how it shaped me. Travelling around the world made me realize more and more that I am blessed, I am very lucky with my family, friends and my life. It is funny that your family becomes more important when you a become an expat, you start realizing what you miss. On the other hand I also didn’t want to miss the experiences that I gained by travelling around the world. My life is a real adventure, it is great.

How do you manage being successful businessmen and parent, especially with all your trips and responsibilities? My point of view is that real happiness can only be achieved by finding the right balance between the different responsibilities you have in life. To reach this ‘balance’ you need to manage both your personal life and work, meaning set clear priorities and objectives and act on it but do make sure that one does not harm the other. My experience is that if the balance is good, you are in control, you decide, you feel happy. During your extended career, tell us your biggest motivation and your biggest drawback? The spirit of my team is my biggest motivation in my work. My experience is that Egyptians are very emotional, which also leads to passion if they are motivated and supported. The appreciation and enthusiasm of my team is worth a million. The biggest drawback is that I have experienced that quit a few people think that someone else will solve the problems or drive the change while I am strong believer that change will start always with yourself. You have worked all around the world. In your point of view what’s unique about the Egyptian market and Egyptian people? Unique is the sense of humor the Egyptians have. A very strong quality that makes Egyptians agile and strong. It is a nice way to put things into perspective. This also reflects in how Egypt has survived the difficult period and maintain strong. Therefore I am also a strong believer that Egypt has a bright future, it has all the ingredients to flourish. Tell us more about the latest two products which you just launched. These two new products offer the latest technology from Philips and are part of an ongoing commitment to improve women’s lives through meaningful innovation. Philips has been known for its quality and innovation for making difference against competition, and it is very important to show what kind of meaningful innovation you have. Females care about their beauty and radiance, and for that we are presenting the ‘VisaPure’. ‘VisaPure’ is a very interesting product that will help you clean your face and make it more radiant and healthy. ‘VisaPure’ creates a salon beauty finish at home, helping you make your beauty routines simpler and more convenient with the latest technology available to help unveil a natural, healthy-looking glow. The ‘Lumea’ is almost like science

fiction; it’s an IPL hair removal system that prevents hair regrowth. Gentle pulses of light, applied regularly, keep skin silky-smooth every day. Nothing like it was available in the market before, it is the ultimate choice for all women. We are very proud to launch these two products that are going to add a lot to the Egyptian consumers. What is so different about Visa Pure? Visa Pure is a gentle, easy-to-use facial-cleansing device that massages deeply cleans the skin to remove makeup and dirt, allowing you to take your daily skin care routine to the next level: without extra effort. In fact, Philips VisaPure is ten times more effective than cleaning the face than cleansing by hand by hand. It also has a Dual Motion technology where the brush rotates and vibrates .The vertical pulsating movement gently breaks up surface impurities including dirt, dead skin cells and make-up residues. The rotating movement swe eps the impurities away, leaving the skin more deeply cleansed. The coordinated movements of the bristles give you a thorough and comfortable cleansing and massaging experience. VisaPure is a great investment that you can enjoy using for years and years, while saving cost on facial treatments at salons and blemish products. Can you explain more about the IPL technology used in Lumea? Philips Lumea uses an innovative light-based technology called IPL (Intense Pulsed Light), derived from the technology used in professional beauty salons. Philips has adapted this technology for safe and effective use in the comfort of your own home. Philips Lumea applies gentle pulses of light to the hair root. As a consequence the hair sheds naturally and hair regrowth is inhibited. Repeating this treatment regularly will keep your skin smooth every day. Philips worked closely with leading dermatologists to develop our breakthrough hair removal system. For more than 10 years we carried out extensive consumer research with more than 1,500 volunteers. What are your expectations for these two amazing products in the Egyptian market? They will certainly meet with a growing demand by consumers once they get to know more about their innovated features and that they are tailored for the easy use in the home. Consequently, I expect these latest introductions to expand geographically by exciting the existing consumers and attracting new ones. Modern women will feel these amazing products will offer innovative and high-quality beauty tools to suit their needs and upgrade their beauty regime.

Trendy Makeup tips for the prefect 2014 Fall Glow

R

By: Adel Hussein

adiant skin and defined eyes dominated the catwalk and runways for the hottest fall trends this year. It’s all about bold eyebrows and full eyelashes that describe extreme Feminism. Fall 2014 make up trends play up on having the appearance of flawless skin that exudes radiance. Whilst most women struggles to have this glow due to various skin issues brought on by the change of weather, these flaws can be camouflaged by different techniques without looking like a three-tier wedding cake, so here is my bag of tricks and trends for the fall season step by step.

Do’s and don’t to achieve a look that is trendy with the fall colors of this year Eyes & Lips Do’s: use Jewel inspired colors such as green, purple mauve, Deep Berries, plums, burnt orange, and dark rose. Don’t: use negative colors such as grey, white, brown on the eyes because it will definitely make you look dull or sick.

40 | November 2014

Cheeks Do’s: choose burnt peach or dark rose Blushers and apply with a wide brush. Don’t: use dark colors such as bronze, dark purple or maroon because they will make your cheekbone structure appear to be narrow.

Basic Skin Hydration is the most important aspect in achieving seamless and beautiful makeup. I can’t stress enough how important it is to drink water and use daily moisturizer. Due to the change of weather in that season a lot of water is lost from your skin, which can cause your make up to look blotchy, and your skin more wrinkled. Quick Tip: if you don’t like drinking water, add some lemon to add a twist for flavor. Concealer under your eye for hiding dark circles It is a little tricky for some people to master it without looking like an owl. The area under your eye skin can appear much darker than usual due to loss of water as well as increase of Co2 in your body. When picking a color for fall, use a medium to fair as a base under your eyes. Quick tip: use a liquid or crème concealer rather than a compact concealer, as it will accentuate the appearance of wrinkles around your eye. Corrector prior to foundation for different reasons It can be awkward for amateurs but very helpful to cover up most of the flaws in your skin, so to make it easier for you match this breakdown with your need. Green corrector for pigmentations such as: acne scars Orange corrector for dull or pale skin Transparent white used to reflect attention away from fine line and wrinkles Foundation is the secret of a flawless skin During fall and winter it should be liquid and containing the main ingredient of hyaluronic acid, which will help keep your skin supple and hydrated.

Ready to go Tricks Morning Insider Artist trick: Contoured Eyebrows and light mascara with a flashy lipstick.

Quick Tip: for the perfect skin look, always pick a darker shade of foundation than your own skin tone.

Evening Insider Artist trick: Contoured Eyebrows, Full eye Make up and a nude colored lipstick.

Leave the paste on your face until it is dry and gently wipe it off with a clean damn washcloth and splash your face with cold water. • Use a quarter sized drop of wheat germ oil and massage it onto your face.

Hair Care Tips

for the Colder Months! by:basma shams The weather is changing, autumn is slowly approaching, and with it a couple of hair issues arise, mostly dandruff and dullness! Here are a few tips and masks that will help you steer away from dull flaky hair this season! • The dandruff-defying mask: Pop a big piece of ginger into your blender or a juicer if you have one extract the juice and add a tablespoon of olive oil and two tablespoons of lemon juice. Autumn mood

board for a stylish home BY: Sally El Bardesy

U

sually you don’t change the whole interior design or dÊcor of a place when changing seasons. However this is a quick guide if you are already into that autumn mood and you find it a compatible theme with your personality. A common false belief is that autumn is all about clouds, grey, dark colors, sad trees, and cold weather. I believe all of you are so happy with this amazing weather and calm city after all. Its just Autumn is so unfortunate to be always related to winter just like spring when related to summer. However in short points will show you the beauty of Autumn and you ll definitely know if autumn mood is the one for you.

48 | November 2014

1. Colors Mustard yellow, cranberry, purple, pumpkin orange, olive green, lemon green, wild berry, mocha, deep red, gold, brass and violet. 2. Patterns All patterns are ok but the ones that make the mood and hit it right are plains, wide stripes, dried flowers, big circles, nature scenery and animal prints like leopard, lizards and snakes. 3. Texture Okay so you never think that texture is important, however its one of the best to give that deep effect and mood. That velvet fabric, the harsh wood, brass plates, oil candles are essential for an autumn themed room. 4. Smell Okay this one is so interesting and it really gets the emotions and visualization at the peak. Imagine the scent of apple cider, cinnamon sticks, teak wood, oranges, honey, and fresh cotton. These are all available in market and can easily be applied. 5. Lighting and accessories To sum it all up and put those final touches and also the easiest part is to accessorize. To give that chic glamour, gold, silver and brass are best to apply. You can also add dried scented flowers, leaves and wooden sticks.

Dianne Murphy, M.D.,

is director of FDA’s Office of Pediatric Therapeutics

Are medications that are intended for children clinically tested on children? Doctor’s Answer:

If the product is to be used only for children, then it must be studied in the pediatric population. However, many therapies are developed for adults and then used in children without having been studied in children.

How can I dry my hair without damaging it? Doctor’s Answer:

Allow it to air dry, when possible. If you have to use a hairdryer, start out on the lowest heat setting first and gradually increase it. Moisturizing the hair regularly will help the appearance of heat-damaged hair to some degree.

4

Anne Hansen, MD, MPH,

medical director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Children’s Hospital Boston

My kid is 3 years old and he still wets his bed during his sleep. What could be the possible reasons?

I’ve heard that I can’t take my newborn outside for a month. Is this true?

Doctor’s Answer:

Doctor’s Answer:

Children whose nervous system is still forming may not be able to know when their bladder is full. Some children may have a bladder that gets full quickly or have too little antidiuretic hormone. Some other reason may include emotional or social factors. Children may be more likely to wet the bed if they have some stress. For example, a child may have a new brother or sister.

The idea that babies have to stay inside the house for several weeks after they’re born is FALSE. In fact, as long as your baby is healthy, getting some fresh air can be great for mom and baby.

Can I drink alcohol if I have diabetes? Doctor’s Answer:

Alcohol poses several problems for people with diabetes. First, after an initial spike in blood sugar, alcohol causes that level to drop. Because being tipsy causes the same symptoms as low blood sugar (sleepiness and disorientation.) Second, if you drink alcohol while taking glucose-lowering medications, your blood sugar levels can drop to dangerous levels. Third, heavy alcohol use can aggravate some diabetes complications, including nerve and kidney disease. Try to drink only at meals and only when your blood glucose is under control.

Louise Chang, MD

Which is more important to avoid, cholesterol or saturated fats? Doctor’s Answer:

Saturated fat will raise your blood cholesterol levels about twice as much as the same amount of dietary cholesterol will. But both are important. You only find cholesterol in animal products. You often find products that say they are cholesterol free, but may contain palm oil, which is high in unsaturated fat. So it is important to take note of both.

Sylvia,Fashion blogger on 40plusstyle.com

If I am trying to avoid allergenic foods, what should I look for on food labels?

How can I dress to hide my big belly?

Doctor’s Answer:

There’s some clever styling tips and technology to help you along the way. To minimize bottoms try drawing attention up top, by maximizing that cleavage! A striped or polka dot bikini top with classic navy bottom always works a treat! Alternatively if you’re conscious of your tummy, a tankini is a must. And if you’re completely conscious of everything, try a skirtini. They’re brilliant!

It is essential that you become an avid label reader. Start at the list of ingredients, which is where you will find the clues to what is contained within the product. Become familiar with all the food terms for your specific allergy. For example, if you are allergic to milk protein, you need to avoid all foods made from milk, Look carefully at butter, margarine, ice cream, cakes, puddings, sorbet, breads, soups, vegetables with sauces, and more. People with allergies would benefit from a diet that is less processed and closer to natural foods, because there are fewer additives in these foods that could cause problems.

White spots on your nails DON’T indicate a calcium deficiency

Calcium deficiency causing white spots on nails is the most common myth, followed by zinc deficiency. The truth is that white spots are common and harmless and don’t indicate any specific vitamin deficiency at all. Most likely they are signs of previous trauma to the nail plate (the hard part of the nail) or the matrix (the source of the nail plate, which is located underneath the cuticle under the skin). Just like folding or denting a piece of clear plastic leaves a white spot, so does pressure or trauma to the nail. 56 | November 2014

What Do Your Nails Say About Your Health?

Fact!

Fingernails grow an average of 3.5 millimeters per month. Nail biting is called onychophagia It’s also the most common “nervous habit,” WebMD reports. Roughly half of children between 10 and 18 bite their nails, according to WebMD, but most people stop on their own by age 30. While nail biting is largely harmless (albeit unsanitary), possible health risks include contributing to skin infections and aggravating nail bed conditions, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Do whatever amount is needed to put yourself in the required caloric deficit you need to be in for fat loss to occur. So let’s pretend some example person figured out their maintenance level, created an ideal-sized deficit, and came to the conclusion that they need to be at about 2000 calories per day for fat loss to occur. (This is just an example amount, of course. To figure out your maintenance level and create your deficit, read the diet guide.)

To make this happen, our example person can: • Consume 2000 calories per day and do no cardio whatsoever. • Consume 2500 calories per day and do an amount of cardio that allows them to burn 500 additional calories thus ending up at the same 2000 they need to be at. • Consume 2250 calories and do an amount of cardio that burns 250 additional calories, thus arriving at the same 2000 calories.

How Much Cardio Should You Do If I Want To Lose Weight?

Fact! Cardio makes your heart strong so that it doesn’t have to work as hard to pump blood

• Do cardio, have some fun! • There is no ‘best’ cardio exercise. Anything that gets your heart rate up fits the bill. • It’s not what you do, but how hard you work. Any exercise can be challenging if you make it that way! • Do something you enjoy. If you hate gym workouts, don’t force yourself onto a treadmill. If you like socializing, consider team sports or a walking club. • Do something you can see yourself doing at least 3 days a week.

Cardio Myth! Doing cardio on an empty stomach torches maximum body fat. FACT: This one comes from the idea that if your body doesn’t have readily available food calories, it’ll dip into the body’s stored supply, shrinking that muffin top. Research bears out that the opposite is true: A 2011 meta-analysis concluded fat burn is consistent regardless of whether or not you’ve eaten before a workout. And other research shows a negative effect of muscle catabolism (a.k.a. muscle loss) from skipping a pre-workout snack. Your body needs energy to perform and energy comes in the form of food. Don’t gorge yourself, but having a small snack before doing cardio can actually help you perform at a higher level. 60 | November 2014

2014: year of the Sweat This is no Chinese Calendar but Fitness Calendar.

S

BY: NATASCIA PAOLUCCI

ummer is gently fading, allowing you to exercise outdoors. In the meantime, winter is nearing rapidly, with its fair share of holiday and parties, to get fit for. See, all the elements are here for you to get up, get out and get sweaty!

Now, while the routine may become seasonal, there is no reason that you would have to keep to the same workouts. Fight boredom and learn more about three new fitness crazes:

1

RipSurfer X: Surfers are cool. This is a fact, and not a new one. However, what has just arrived in the gym classes is. Behold, far away from the sea, the sand, the wind and the waves, get your boards and get ready to surf! Picture a short, thick, egg-shaped plastic surfboard mounted on three partly inflated disks. This is designed to simulate the instability and physical demands of a surfboard on the water. In fact, the less inflated the disks, the more instability and the more strenuous the workout. Easier classes will be based on taking and holding yogatype poses and jumping on and off the board. More advanced classes are more aerobics and cardio based. At any rate, this is a great workout for those who have always wanted to try surfing without the ability or will to go to the ocean. Indeed, the only saltwater you will see is your sweat!

62 | November 2014

2

Bear training: Means you are running away from hungry bears for dire life. No, I am joking. But this new fitness craze may very well be as hard. Based (heavily) on the principles of Strongman Competition, it uses non-traditional equipment over a sort of circuit. Namely, while time constrained into periods of minutes separated by 45 seconds rest or uphill running sessions, you will be asked to move, drag, flip and carry over your head, 40 to 300 kg tyres, sandbags, and hammers. The idea is that, instead of getting basic muscle-building exercises, you will get an intense holistic workout that will make you strong. This is called functional training.

Outdoor challenges: Challenges like Diva Dash, Dirty Girl, Tough Mudder and the Spartan Race are seeing a huge increase in their female fanbase and it is easily understandable. In a mix of race and boot camp, they typically feature exercises such as mud crawls, climbing over hay bales, scaling walls and wading through water - and lets not forget, serious mud. This is the exciting new way of working out for those who get easily tired of gym or jogging routines. In addition, group versions are also available, making it a great teambuilding experience.

3

So, here you have it: whether you wake up feeling more Bear, more Surfer or more Spartan, you can have your pick of challenging and effective workout. This is Fitness Christmas before time! November 2014 | 63

Al Ethad Company

has acquired the Proxy of Estee Lauder in Egypt

Al Sharief Group for Marketing and Fragrances is one of the biggest Egyptian companies working in the field of makeup, Perfume and Watch marketing. It has the proxy of many international brands in Egypt. For example Burberry, Salvatore Ferragamo, Jaguar, Dupont, Boucheron, Bugatti, Lapidus,‌etc for fragrances; Deborah, Florelle, Jordana and Mavala for makeup; and Adriatica for watches, which is considered the biggest rival to all of the other Swiss brands for its shape, quality, capabilities and prices. Recently, Mr. Saeed al Sharief has established a new company with the name of al Etahad. Al Ethad managed to get the proxy of Estee Lauder for the First time in Egypt In August 2014 which has products that have never been in the Egyptian market before, at least legally. However, some rival companies launched a barrage of rumors doubting the fact that Al Ethad Co. managed to acquire such a proxy, But apparently These rumors are very far from the truth! Al- Ethad did succeed in getting the proxy of Estee Lauder for the first time in Egypt, and the first product that will be launched is Aramis and Designer Fragrances which contain 8 famous brands like Michael Kors, Tommy Hilfiger,  DKNY, Aramis, Zegna, Kiton as well as brands that may follow like Bobbi Brown, Clinic.. etc, but Aramis and Designer Fragrances is the one they currently have chosen for marketing its products in Egypt that will be launched in October 2014. There were many competitors that made business proposals like Ethad’s to the proxy, but only them were chosen. Logically, there has been a kind of professional jealousy from the competitors that made them launching such ridiculous rumors. After Ethaad company managed to get its first proxy Este Lauder,They said they will defiantly plan to get more international proxies in Egypt in the future

5 Word Answer

What are the worst foods for coughing? Milk, caffeine, processed food, fizzy drinks & nuts

Do you suffer from dry skin?

Fix with Food

Healthy fats and oils will add needed moisture and make your skin more supple. So the key to healing your dry skin is to increase the amount of healthy fats (such as avocados, nuts, and olive oil) in your diet. You’ve probably heard that you should drink enough water to hydrate your dry skin, and it’s true. But you can also boost your skin’s hydration with herbs by drinking caffeine-free herbal infusions. An infusion with rose and marigold is especially helpful for dry skin because of the plants’ moistening and healing properties.

What makes protein such a powerful fat fryer? Protein-rich foods are more difficult to digest than carbohydrates and fat-laden foods, which burns extra calories. Although protein can come from a variety of foods, animal sources like (fish, eggs, Greek yogurt, and chicken) provide up to 7 grams of protein per 1-ounce serving, and have all nine essential amino acids that help the body burn fat. If you are a vegetarian, plant sources of protein include (soybeans, tofu, quinoa, nuts, seeds and beans.) Vegetarians should eat a variety of foods such as (rice and grains) to ensure they consume all the essential amino acids necessary for maximum protein consumption and fat loss.

Green Tea & Fat

An experiment published in Physiological Behavior found that subjects who drank 2 or 3 cups of green tea daily lost more weight than subjects who had an identical diet but did not drink tea. The tea drinkers were shown to have an increased metabolism compared to the non-tea drinkers.

How to Shrink Fat Cells by Eating Protein?

TIP!

Get about 10 to 15% of total calories come from monounsaturated fats; “good” fats are found mainly in plant sources, like (nuts, avocados and olive, peanut and canola oils.)

Trim The Fat!

• Keep your total fat intake to around 30% of your total calorie intake • Limit saturated fat intake to no more than 7 to 10% of your intake

Fill On A Protein-Powered Breakfast!

Having a protein-rich breakfast will keep your muscles intact, and prevents fat cells from ballooning up. Strive to get 20% to 25% of your daily protein needs at breakfast. Based on an 1,800-calorie diet, you should eat 80 grams of lean protein per day, and 20 grams should be consumed at breakfast. Four egg whites, 1 cup nonfat yogurt or two scoops of whey protein mixed with water are easy sources to help you meet the suggested amount.

TIP!

About 10% of calories should come from polyunsaturated fats (These fats, which include the healthy omega-3 fatty acids, are also found in plant oils such as safflower, sunflower, corn, flaxseed and canola oils, as well as in seafood.) November 2014 | 67

Diet Rages BY: Noura Hassaballa

Quick fixes such as low-calorie diets, low carb or no carb diets cause you to: • • • • •

Get Angry Feel fatigued Be unfocused Act like an emotional zombie Binge eat

And the list goes on. When your blood sugar is low, your brain is starved and your body produces the stress hormone adrenaline which causes you to panic, feel nervous, have rapid or irregular heart beats and also depressed. Because carbohydrates play a major role in fueling your brain since glucose is the brain’s preferred fuel source.

How to diet right? • Mark your calendar for a start date • Focus on changing one habit at a time • Start your day with a jog, walk, or any physical activity for 15 to 20 minutes • Make small substitutions (use the stairs instead of the elevator, park far and walk to your destination, use honey instead of sugar, switch to whole grain products, eat dark chocolate instead of milk ones, etc…) • Have fruits and veggies as a snack • Make healthy food choices when dinning out • Don’t be too harsh on yourself trying to lose weight • Weight loss doesn’t happen overnight; look at it as if you are on a road trip • Eat in moderation; just because you are on a diet doesn’t mean you can’t have a piece of cake • Stop eating 3 hours before bedtime • Have healthy snacks around the house

Conclusion Strict diets for fast weight loss don’t work for long. Whether it’s Atkins’s, Dash, Detox, or whatever you name it diet, all you lose is water, muscles, and very little fats. The bad news is you gain double the weight back. Nutrition plays a crucial role in physical and mental health, so start eating healthy and change your lifestyle instead of picking and sticking to one diet that makes your life miserable and makes you feel grumpy all the time. Look at it long term and don’t rush into things so quick because you will quit faster than you think. 68 | November 2014

WAYS TO GET OVER A BAD BREAKUP

72 | November 2014

BY: Omnia Helal

S

ome girls sit down with an entire quart of their favorite ice cream after a bad breakup. Others think KFC is the answer or see how many tequila shots they can take in one evening. Breakups can be so hard, and they can be amicable; no matter what, no one really wants to go through them. The loss of your relationship can bring on intense heartache and stress. But if you're looking for some help getting through it and want some suggestions about how to make it a little easier, read on... Here’s Lady bird’s 9 ways of how to get over a bad break up!

2. Allow yourself to cry when you need to Don’t ignore or stuff them down. Let the tears flow and express your anger. Ignored emotions will only make you calloused and afraid. 3. Exercise your blues away. Exercise increases your endorphins. Join a health club, take the stairs instead of the elevator, walk to work, do some yoga or take a salsa lesson. Get some of that negative stuff out. 4. Breakup movies. • Forgetting Sarah Marshall (For when you want to call him. This movie will remind you NOT to call.) • The Notebook (For when you want to cry about something else.) • My Sister’s Keeper (To remind you that life does not revolve around romance.) • 500 Days of Summer (To remind you that there is no ‘the one’) • Eat, pray, love (Even if you don’t find love right away, know that your Javier Bardem is out there somewhere!) • Omar w Salma (just kidding) 5. Rebound with one incredibly hot guy, if that’s what you want, and then give yourself some time to decompress and remember who you are. Go out and get yourself some strange from a guy who looks like Ahmed Ramzy or just has dirty hair. It’s hard to tell the difference. But then slow down and be lowkey for a while. If you’ve had one rebound, you’ve had them all! 6. Boiling the bunny Boiling the bunny is all about revenge fantasies. These are extremely helpful, and we would recommend spending some time developing a few. Lie down in a quiet place, and roll the tape in your head. Visualize it, hear it and feel it. Trust us.. It helps!

7. Seasonal Affective Disorder OK, this has been fun, but now it’s time to get back to the business of mending your broken heart. Grief is one of life’s seasons. Think of it as spending time in a climate where the sun never shines. It could last a little while. Here are some things you’ll probably be feeling at this point: • You realize he’s not coming back. It’s really over • You feel devastated • You really, really miss him • You focus on memories of the past • You blame yourself and try to figure out what went wrong • We wish you could skip this stage, but here are some things you can do to shorten the duration of SAD: • Make a list of his faults • Remind yourself every day that you deserve a guy who will love you unconditionally. And he doesn’t. Therefore…you deserve better than him. • Make some changes. Do something new; find a new source of hope. It could be a new interest, a new friendship, a new exercise activity. Open new avenues in your life. • Reflect on the relationship, and think about what you learned. Take responsibility for your own shortcomings. 8. Get a Makeover Dye your hair or get a new cut. Buy a new outfit or those kickass shoes you’ve been eyeing for weeks. Focusing on you and making yourself feel good will build confidence and help you not sweat the small stuff. 9. Beware of the “Just Friends” Trap: He is not, and will not be your friend, it’s just a trap because he feels that you are getting over him. So Crop out the sadness and say NO.

1. Either block or unfriend him on Facebook, because that stuff will be the death of you. if you assume you are a reasonable and mature lady who can handle seeing the occasional reminder of him on your Facebook timeline. NO!

break up, wake up, and move on!

Love & Relationships

Bettina Knows Best…

is marriage a guarantee for commitment ? Dear Bettina,

H

e says he loves me, yet he is not ready to commit, is that even possible? We have been dating for 2 years and whenever the commitment issue is opened he avoids it and lately he stated clear that he doesn’t believe in marriage. Is that possible and should I stay with him?

BY: BETTINA HEMMINGSEN Dear, To answer your first question, I do think you can love someone without commitment because love is a feeling and commitment is a decision, which is optional. Having said that a partnership is not just about the emotions and feelings of love. A partnership is about commitment, and being responsible to that commitment regardless of what the external variables of the time are. Married or not married, when you decide to enter into a partnership with another, commitment means you act with integrity, respect and care -even when your emotions are telling you otherwise. I suspect that when you say that he is not ready to commit you mean getting married and having a family. In most cases the background for getting married is to strengthen and validate our commitment rather than our love however I do believe that you can be in a committed relationship without being married. Marriage itself is no guarantee for commitment. Generally men and women’s readiness to commit lies in their genes as well as in their social and cultural background. I don’t know how old your boyfriend is and what his excuse is for not wanting to commit yet - but most men are afraid of making a commitment because it make them feel felt entrapped, which, usually comes down to the fearof losing their freedom and beneath that the fear of losing themself. Another reason could be that he feels he is to young and lack life experience last but not least he might have insufficient finances to provide for a family, as getting married in Egypt is VERY expensive. There is a difference between committing to a relationship and sharing the same dreams for the future. So my advice to you is to find out what you really want! Are you looking for a soul mate or a provider? Have you finished your education and settled in a job or is the whole “commitment-dream” another way of fillingagab in your life? Do you share the same values, norms and beliefs with this guy or is there something else that makes him attractive, such as money, appearance and status? Be honest with yourself and what is motivating you to stay in the relationship, is it love or something else?

Good luck Bettina 74 | November 2014

Mother & Child

“Do as I say ,not as I do”

A

mazingly, children at two years old onwards are natural imitators. They are eager to imitate their parents’ actions and want to be like them. It is important for toddlers and children to imitate because that is how they learn to feed themselves, walk, communicate and further.

Are you surprised by the act of your kid; where the baby boy imitates the father and the baby girl imitating the mother? For instance, sleeping position, mannerisms, eating habits, etc. generally passes from the father to his baby boy and mom to her girl! While a part of the baby’s behavior is inherited by the mom 76 | November 2014

or dad, the kids actually learns it through by watching the activities. Well, it is quite natural with kids as they consider the father and mother as their role model! Understanding the Facts Children at this age become more aware of the fact that they will grow up to be a woman or man. So, they attempt to follow their

parents’ footsteps, for instance; paying attention to love ones and friends, displaying their appropriate attitudes towards their work, house chores and responsibilities. It is a common scene for children to copy parents’ dressing style, learn to express various ways of human emotions, such as love, fear, anger, grief and happiness. One of these actions is

TIP: Your kids will imitate you, use it as a force of good

facial expression such as sticking out tongue. Remember that children are innocent. Once they learn the rope, it is hard for them to stop the bad behavior. So, if your child imitates you, then it is a great platform to impart good behavior and manners in your kid. Things kids should learn by imitation: • Developing nutritional eating habits by eating nutritious foods • How important hygiene and cleanliness are • Understanding the routines and follow it diligently Since being a role model to your son or daughter, don’t pose yourself negatively with wrong acts. In fact, if you fight with your wife or husband in front of your kid, the kids, no matter, a boy or a girl, will mock you!

Children have never been good at listening to their elders, but they have never failed to imitate them. James A.Baldwen

The Psychology of Fashion By: MAhmoud Medhat

ashion is not only about a nice dress you wear or a bright necklace you put on. It’s an art with the power to transform an image or make a social statement. It differs from a culture to another, generation to generation and it’s always changing and also revives as well. Fashion has existed since the early ages, since mankind used to wear animal skin to cover themselves and today we as well use that animal cloth but with different styles and shapes to produce shoes, jackets, coats and others. Trendy clothes become trendy because of either they’re new and stylish or sometimes because celebrities and public figures are spotted in them first, to start an rise it up and then consciously and subconsciously people mix and match these trendy fashions with what they feel comfortable putting on. Traditional clothes are one of a kind as they slightly change across different generations for long decades; they illustrate and reflect cultural traditions and lifestyles. Colors are a critical issue when it comes to

Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it’s not luxury.

Coco Chanel

fashion psychology, colors don’t have absolute meanings but according to psychologists and knowledge gained from different ancient cultures and current research and analysis sciences, each color represents something; as in red, it reflects energy and courage, yellow reflects success and enthusiasm and so on. So the color you wear expresses something that might be easily acknowledged by others’ minds or it might hold deep meanings that speak to their hearts. What we wear reflects who we are, reflects our characters’ attributes, our intentions and even ways of thinking. We intend to wear what is up to date; the smarter way is to mix the up to date with what suits you best in terms of color, fit, and above all what you feel internally and externally comfortable with. Coco Chanel said ‘Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it’s not luxury”. And that reflects well what I want to highlight. Fashion exists in everything, in the clothes we wear, the cars we ride and even in some cases in what we eat and drink. So always transcend your fashionable intelligence to be stylish and at the same time feel comfortable and self satisfied.

Samsung's best cameraphone!

T

he Samsung Galaxy K Zoom is the sort of device you might imagine resulting if you put a compact camera and a phone next to each other and pushed them together really hard. It has the dimpled back styling of Samsung’s latest phones, and looks just like a normal phone from the front. But on the back is a giant lens housing that sticks out and alters the weighting of the phone substantially.

an option to add more modes though the “Manage Modes” panel. Here you can choose from Kids Shot, Macro, Light Trace and Sunset, just to name a few.

Its lens is a key feature – this is one of just a few phones to be released to feature an optical zoom. It is a 10x optical zoom too, offering the kind of focal range you get in a superzoom compact, not just a bog-standard one. We fully appreciate that Samsung had to do some clever design work to get the Galaxy K Zoom to its current size. It’s 20mm thick by its lens, and 16.6mm thick across most of its middle.

Samsung Galaxy K Zoom Key features include:

The camera includes a variety of shooting modes, including Auto (the default), Pro Suggest (which recommends a selection of filters depending on the scene), Program, Beauty Face, Shot and More (for burst shooting), Panorama, HDR, Night, Continuous Shot and Selfie Alarm (it automatically snaps a shot when it detects your face in the frame). There’s also

The Galaxy K Zoom has a microSD card slot too, and it is – thankfully – on the side of the phone. Normally Samsung puts its card slots under the battery cover, and normally that makes perfect sense. But with a cameraobsessed phone where you’re much more likely to be swapping out cards regularly, the little plastic microSD flap on the left edge is a welcome sight.

Nicki Minaj Dropping New Music With Lil Wayne, Chris Brown And Drake After breaking the internet with her last single, “Anaconda”, Nicki Minaj is ready for her follow up before releasing the highly anticipated album The Pink Print. The rap star recently made a big announcement on her Instragram page revealing the artwork to her next single, “Only” which will drop on Tuesday (October 28). According to the cover, the song will feature, Lil Wayne, Drake and Chris Brown. The lineup is interesting because at one point she was unsure if Drizzy would appear on the album.

movie Gone girl Stop us if you’ve heard this one before: David Fincher directs an adaptation of a best-selling crime novel with a major A-lister in the lead role. Okay, while The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo didn’t turn out quite as we hoped, expectations are high for Gone Girl based on early reviews. Beyond Fincher behind the camera and Ben Affleck in front, Gone Girl has us intrigued because author Gillian Flynn wrote the script herself, and even allegedly tweaked some elements to better suit a film. That’s all to say that Gone Girl is likely the most anticipated movie of the month, with expectations building as each glowing review comes in. It’s also a chance to see Affleck in one last drama before he dons the cape and cowl.

Scorpio

October 23 - November 21 Strength: mysterious, rational, intelligent, independent, intuitive, dedicated, insightful, charming, sensible Weakness: suspicious, fanatical, complicated, possessive, arrogant, selfwilled, extreme Best careers: Psychologist, designer, lawyer, humanitarian organizations and charitable foundations Perfect gift: Sunglasses and clothes

Favorite animals: Scorpion, Eagle and Wolf Compatible with: Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces Incompatible with: Sagittarius, Leo and Aries Successful entrepreneurs: Bill Gates, Ted Turner and Juliette Gordon Low

Element: Fire

Scorpio Fashion Sense Sexy is a Scorpio word. This sign loves anything black but you’ll also find they wear a lot of burgundy too. They like to leave “something to the imagination” when they dress up but still opt for clothing that entices. Sexy high heels and thigh high boots are favorite footwear for Scorpio women. Oh, and don’t forget those dark sunglasses that help them look so mysterious. Scorpio Hairstyle Intense, detail-oriented makeup and precision haircuts are all about Scorpio. Think of Julia Roberts, whose hair looks enviably even when she runs out to CVS in sweats. What it’s Like to Date a Scorpio Woman Scorpio woman is very emotional, very demanding and very demonstrative. She is full of flair and intrigue, a fascinating woman that the strong A-type personality male will adore, for she presents the right amount of challenge with the right amount of rewards. The Scorpio woman is the ultimate seductive, flirtatious woman. She won’t give a man her heart very easily because she is weary of trusting another person. The man will have to go through a series of ‘mental testes’ in order for the relationship to get solid and close. She may not show it, but she wants a close committed relationship. In order for this, the man has to be trusted, has to be affectionate and never try to control her. She is very possessive but the Scorpio woman is so full of mystery, sensuality and passion that most men do not mind being possessed by her. What it’s Like to Date a Scorpio Man The Scorpio male is unlike any other man of any other astrology sign. He is so unique that a separate section is needed to explain about dating the Scorpio man. The Scorpio man is easy to seduce, it is much harder to form a real relationship with him. The Scorpio man is very sensitive and feels lonely and unfulfilled, but he will never let a woman know this. Behind closed doors, be sensitive and affectionate to him appeal to his emotions only if you want a close relationship with him do not attempt to lead him on because he will see this and never forgive you. Toying with a Scorpio male is an unwise move. He will be jealous and possessive and will never allow a woman to control him. Let him take the lead because the Scorpio male is truly a fascinating person, you can never go wrong when he is planning the night! Scorpio men are very moody and their moods change like a pendulum on a clock. Stand by his side in these times and it will pass. Do not nag on him for he has a hard enough time understanding his own emotions. Scorpio men make excellent protectors and you will always feel safe under his radiating, passionate and energetic power. Scorpio Erogenous Zone The genitals are everybody’s erogenous zone but since the Scorpio is the most sexually charged of all zodiac signs, the genitals are extremely sensitive and will ignite a passionate fire that cannot be extinguished. 86 | November 2014
