WE ARE
9 YEARS YOUNG!
O
Oh how time flies! It’s hard to believe that a whole nine years have already passed since Ladybird magazine was founded. Nine years have passed since the day a small group of passionate friends cooked what was then a small startup project, and now look how it turned out; it turned out to be one the leading fashion and lifestyle magazines in Egypt. Our little red polka dotted ladybird beetle has sure gone a long way since we started; and no one saw it coming. Year after year we strived to grow and develop, and with every step forward came a new challenge, but nothing ever stood between us and our little ladybird’s dream. We had some good days and we had several other bad days; we laughed, we fought, we yelled, we discussed, we brainstormed, we fell so many times, we limped, but no matter what we always rose back up again. The show must go on... Our show. Since we’ve started, we made a pact to never let our readers down. We pushed ourselves issue after issue, and year after year, to bring our readers the best in terms of content and design. We wanted to be an open gate through which our readers could reach a valuable array of information, that would actually help make their lives easier. And we believe we’ve kept our promise. Throughout those nine years, we witnessed many magazines rise and fall; they simply got old. We witnessed how the online platforms invaded our territory year after year, and eagerly wanted take our spot. However, we, of Ladybird Magazine, stood our ground and stayed sharply focused. We’re 9 years young, and we will only get younger, fresher and fiercer. Watch and learn...

COCONUT MILK Coconut milk is very nourishing for hair/scalp tissues. Apply it your hair and wrap it up in a disposable hair cover. Leave for 10 minutes and rinse it.
GREEK YOGURT WITH LEMON AND HONEY Add 2 tablespoons of Greek yogurt to 1 teaspoon of lemon and honey. Apply the mix paste to the scalp using a brush; leave it for 30 minutes then rinse with water.
POTATOES WITH HONEY Add 1 teaspoon of honey to a peeled mashed potatoes; add a bit of water to blend it together then apply the paste to your hair. Leave it for 20 to 30 minutes then wash it thoroughly using a shampoo.

he roaring 20’s . . . its sparkle, elegance, emergence of Black American jazz culture, pizzazz, the Josephine Bakers, Greta Garbos, Harlem Renaissance, Coco Chanels, Mae McKinneys, Mae Wongs, and highlights of the Hollywood fantasy many hoped to be part of. Fashion, and YES, thestyle. . .HAIRSTYLE, that is! Transforming traditional, feminine, and beauty ideals for women, the “Flapper,” or The Eternal A La Garcon haircut added a touch of femininity to the “masculine,” per say. From 1920’s Burlesque dancing to Vaudeville actors and actresses, the style of that hairstyle could be found in the musicalart forms that made it—THE 20’s.

With elegance, a short cropped cut, the 20’s re-defined the meaning of womanhood for much of the mainstream, Western gaze. any times we get stuck in our past and all our focus becomes only on our lost opportunities or on some goals and dreams that we couldn’t accomplish back then! We then start to doubt all our capabilities and our mindsets become overwhelmed by the fact that no matter what we do, we are not good enough! On the other hand, once you see that the ball is totally in your court, you have set the stage for deep letting go. Your happiness is your responsibility alone, not anyone else’s. You might be very familiar with feeling like a victim. But this is a passive, unempowered position, leaving you waiting for words or actions from someone else, something you cannot control. If you allowed yourself to fall into that trap, without even noticing you will find yourself stuck in a 56 | AUGUST 2016
vicious circle that will lead you nowhere. It will only drain your energy and fill you with negativity that you might find difficulty in everything even getting out of bed in the morning! Is that what you really want? I Don’t think so… Our challenge is to change the way of how we look at our past... When you look with great clarity, you will see that there is no actual thing called the past. Everything that happens, happens in the present – it can’t be any other way. Memories of events are thoughts occurring in the present. Anger or hurt about the past is happening now. Your present moment experience in the now is what keeps the past alive. If you think about it deeply, you will discover that the thoughts that you decide to be stuck to in the past are not serving you in any way; they are just delaying your freedom to have a new fresh start.
So stop coming up with excuses to yourself that you can’t move on. Stop saying “I just need this and this to happen first so I can then have the ability to move on.” There is a famous quote by Wayne Dyer that says “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change. ”The moment you decide to shift you perspective and look at your problems as if they are opportunities, challenges and a real way to move forward is the moment where you will feel this gush of power and positivity running through you. What you focus on is what will grow. If you cultivate sadness and regret, then they will become your reality. Instead when you decide to be open to the energy moving through your body rather than staying stuck in your past, I can assure you to feel differently.

Recipes for the Perfect Dinner
TWICE-BAKED POTATOES Ingredients: • 8 baking potatoes, washed • 3 tablespoons canola oil • 2 sticks salted butter • 1 cup bacon bits (fry your own!) • 1 cup sour cream

• 1 cup Cheddar or Jack cheese (or • a mix of both), plus more for topping • 1/2 cup whole milk • 2 teaspoons seasoned salt • 3 green onions, sliced • Freshly ground black pepper
Directions: 1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. 2. Place the potatoes on a baking sheet. Rub them with the canola oil and bake for 1 hour, making sure they're sufficiently cooked through. 3. Slice the butter into pats. Place in a large mixing bowl and add the bacon bits and sour cream. Remove the potatoes from the oven. Lower the heat to 350 degrees F. 4. With a sharp knife, cut each potato in half lengthwise. Scrape out the insides into the mixing bowl, being careful not to tear the shell. Leave a small rim of potato intact for support. Lay the hollowed out potato shells on a baking sheet. 5. Smash the potatoes into the butter, bacon and sour cream. Add the cheese, milk, seasoned salt, green onions and black pepper to taste and mix together well. (IMPORTANT: If you plan to freeze the twice-baked potatoes, do NOT add the green onions.) 6. Fill the potato shells with the filling. Fill the shells so they look abundant and heaping. Top each potato with a little more grated cheese and pop 'em in the oven until the potato is warmed through, 15 to 20 minutes.
HASSELBACK POTATOES Ingredients: • 8 tablespoons (1 stick) butter, softened • 1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil • 1/3 cup finely chopped chives • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper • 6 medium russet potatoes, scrubbed Directions: 1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F. 2. Stir together the butter, olive oil, chives and some salt and pepper in a small bowl. 3. Place a potato between the handles of 2 wooden spoons or 2 chopsticks. Slice the potato into thin slices, leaving 1/4 inch at the bottom unsliced; the spoon handles will prevent you from slicing the potato all the way through. Repeat with the remaining potatoes. 4. Put the potatoes on a baking sheet and brush on the butter mixture, making sure to get in between all the slices. Bake until tender and crisp, 55 to 60 minutes.
SCALLOPED POTATOES Ingredients: • 1 clove garlic, smashed • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter • 2 1/4 pounds Yellow Finn potatoes • or other waxy-style potato • 2 cups half-and-half • 1 tablespoon kosher salt • Freshly ground black pepper • A pinch of nutmeg Directions: 1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. 2. Rub the garlic around the inside of an 8 by 8 by 2-inch casserole dish and let it dry. Reserve the remaining garlic. Rub the butter around the inside of the dish. Reserve the remaining butter. 3. Peel and thinly slice the potatoes on a mandoline or vegetable slicer (about 1/8-inch-thick slices). 4. In a medium saucepan, combine the garlic, butter, potatoes, half-and-half, salt, pepper to taste, and nutmeg. Bring to a boil, lower the heat to mediumhigh, and cook, stirring, until the mixture has thickened, about 5 minutes. 5. Transfer the mixture to the prepared dish. Shake the pan so the potatoes are distributed evenly. 6. Bake the potatoes, basting occasionally, until lightly browned and bubbly, about 1 hour. As it turns out, modern fathers pay a lot of attention to what their kids are doing on the web and do their best to find the right balance between safeguarding them and encouraging their interest in the Internet and cutting-edge gadgets. According to the survey, conducted specially for Kaspersky Lab, the vast majority of fathers feel responsible both for the financial maintenance of their families and their cyber security. This means it’s usually the father who installs security solutions on all the digital devices at home. The results show that the number of fathers who give smartphones or tablets to children before their first birthday is at least double the number of mothers who admit doing the same. On top of this, dads tend to view the Internet and gadgets as great things for both them and their kids. Unlike mothers, dads believe the Internet and usage of gadgets have a positive effect on their children.
