Self-love isn’t selfish
I
“You can’t pour from an empty cup” … I came across this saying once and I thought to myself; why weren’t we ever taught to take care of ourselves before taking care of others? Why don’t we make ourselves happy first? Why do we always have to please others and seek their validations on who we are? I realized then; that out of all the math, science, and geography we learned at school, we were never taught how to love ourselves. Self-love; we hear that word and all we link it to is selfishness and vanity. The fact is, it’s far away from that, not even relevant. Self-love doesn’t consist in making believe that you’re the best there is. It is to understand you are not perfect, that you have your own flaws, yet you embrace who you are and you’re never ashamed. It’s to feel confident in your own skin, it is acceptance! Self-love is to know that the strength of your relationships goes hand in hand with the love you have for you self because simply, you cannot give what you don’t possess. You can’t fall for someone and expect them to love you back, if you don’t love who you are. It is the secret behind your every success story, the key to everything! We often put ourselves last on the list; our needs, thoughts, interests, and feelings. We end up feeling frustrated, consumed, with nothing left to give. We give our all to others and then we start to realize we didn’t spare a bit of that love for ourselves. Drained and exhausted; we drive everyone around us away and we lose touch with who we are. We start to wonder why and keep looking for answers, little do we know, the answer is within ourselves! This isn’t a call out for you to be selfish; it isn’t a call out to neglect the people you love. It is to do yourself a favor and make your happiness a priority. It is to stop the negative self-talk; praise yourself for your accomplishments, and motivate yourself after every failure. Fall in love with yourself first and everything else will fall in line. Don’t be a follower, have your own identity. Stand out! Shine! Dare to be you in a world that constantly forces you to be someone else.

Clare’s choice of dusty colors, romantic ruffled lace and silk blouses along with leather worked like an absolute charm. Ponchos and knitwear featured in the collection are more of nomadic. Flavors that speak your character Powered by
I’m a practical person. My time is precious, that’s why I love to plan things ahead. My work is my life! I work around the clock most of the time, but it pays off when I see the results of my accomplishments. I get into meetings all the time, phone calls, emails and I have to multitask while still focused. In the middle of it all, a midday snack with Sunbites Cheese and Herbs سناك_يبسطك# in your long awaited lunch break. You can call me restless! I bounce from work to gym to meeting friends and I never get enough! Sometimes I wish the day was more than 24 hours to fit my endless activities. I’m full of passion and energy. My social circles are endless and I like to meet new people. I love taking risks and get challenged easily. Sunbites Sweet Chilli Pepper سناك_يبسطك# and spices up your life.
To be honest, I’m really hesitant. My hair, better curly or straight? Should I call him?... or wait for him to call!? Ok let’s go to the movies, or maybe let’s go out for dinner! It gets difficult to decide on anyrhing, except for my midday snack. It’s always Sunbites Tomato and Herbs سناك_يبسطك# till you try and decide on plans for the night. I’m pretty traditional and I love everything basic. I’m all about simplicity. Unlike my friends, my activities are more relaxed. I go to Yoga classes and I love meditation. So, while all my friends are out and about, nothings keep my company better than Sunbites. My happiest part is when I chill with Sunbites Butter and Spices, سناك_يبسطك# while you snuggle on the couch watching a good movie.
I change my look, let’s say, every other week! I love to look different from time to time. Redhead, blond, brunette, short hair, long hair, boy cut… a new look always makes a difference. I’m crazy about fashion, I create my own style and I pull off any trend just great! I get invited to a lot of fashion shows and I always have to turn heads. I watch over for my body weight, when I crave a midday snake; Sunbites it is! My flavor is Olives and Oregano; سناك_يبسطك# with its lightness and deliciousness.

FASHION NEWS Laila Youssef spices up Fall 2016 with her new collection The desires for sentiment and intensity have inspired a trendy Fall 2016 extravagant look designed by the Fashion stylist Laila Youssef. Siding with the distinct warmth of earth tones, plenteous beams of radiant colors stands throughout her collection. On the contrary of the usual predicted colors for such an intimate cozy season; Laila imbedded vivacious radiant colors in her collection reflecting a playful, flirty yet well-constructed appearance departing from the dull norms. The collection’s palette contemplates different inspiration according to each and every color. The overwhelming lucent orange reflects the warmth of fall leaves, Red tones invites the feeling of confidence and stability and the hot mustard yellow behold a pinch of the exotic. Regarding the style of the collection, an obvious statement of trend is seen to fit within the modern tropical fashion arena while bringing back a glimpse of the vintage stellar. Exemplified within the high waisted shorts, simple sorted streamline jackets and glam rock platform shoes; the collection stands out with its uniqueness and playfulness.
Amina K creates FW’16 ‘The Alternating collection’ using left over fabrics for a cause “The clothing industry in the second largest polluter in the world” Fast Fashion has led to more seasons, more collections, and more waste. In reaction, many in the fashion industry are constantly trying to evolve and change production methods to make better use of the waste created. Amin K’s strong believe for such movement inspired her to create a collection out of left over fabrics of previous seasons. Key pieces such as vests, jackets sweatshirts, and shirts were interpreted and revamped into statement pieces. Due to fabric constraints, quantities are limited and color variation will be released throughout the season. 20 | november 2016

Dress to impress Most of us spend a decent amount of money on our clothes and how we look. Not to mention the time we spend digging through store racks, or online best deals. Who wouldn’t want to dress to impress! Yet caring for our clothes and most expensive fabrics is becoming a tough job with our tight daily schedules. We often resort to quick wins and life hacks thinking that we are making the best of our time and money.
Well let me tell you, out of experience, you have the opportunity to become your own dry cleaner at minimal effort and time provided that you find a washing machine with the right specs. With the help of research & development, household appliances companies were able to produce automatic washing machines that respects your busy schedule, giving you the freedom to choose the washing duration depending
on how stained your fabrics are. These automatic washing machines also provide you with a variety of washing programs that offer you intensive to light washing cycles with different time intervals. So you will have the flexibility to set your washing time according to your schedule and at the same time clean every delicate fabric that you have. For Ultimate fabric care, you should definitely go for the Front loader since it is gentler on the clothes. It consumes less water, less detergent and it has higher spin speeds which means they get more water out of your clothes so it maintains its quality and good looks for longer time. In addition to being energy efficient and best for small storage places, as it is more likely to fit most under a counter or a bench. We do not recommend the top loaders though as it uses more water and with slow spin speeds, it leaves your clothes soaked which is not good for your fabrics on the long run and calls for manual squeezing; such a tiring and difficult task for people whose day is full of all sort of challenges. When you finally invest in your perfect washing machine, you will be able to provide professional care for your clothes feeling like a fashionista on the go and you will have the quality time you need with your beloved ones. You will be able to save time, money and you will have one less thing to worry about, and like it was once said before “If you can do Laundry you can do anything “.

The Dark Gothic Side:
Fall/Winter 2016/2017 make up trends are bringing us to the gothic look. You can wear it softly or harshly for a more intense look. Dior and Louis Vuitton are among the houses to choose the dark side giving character to models. Colors used were black or plum, matte or glossy to create sassy look with a killer pout
Arty Liner & Glitter: Graphic eyeliner & glitter are of the biggest statements that made it to the runway this year. Oscar de la Renta went for a very precise eyeliner look with a natural lip color. Burberry, on the other hand, went FOR a tint of glitter. So fetch your gel eyeliners and glitter and get creative with them.
Glowing Natural look: Ralph Lauren’s natural yet sophisticated look is to inspire women and dare them to be themselves effortlessly.
So ladies pick your look depending on your mood and theme of the day. november 2016 | 37

6 Tips for a cozier home this WINTER By: HANAN MARWAN
A
s temperature starts to plunge, the normal switch in your wardrobe from light cotton fabrics to warm cashmere sweaters should be reflected in your personal space. It is about attracting all senses, smelling winter scents, seeing rich cozy colors and feeling warm cozy fabrics. Learn simple tips and tricks that bring in warmth
1. Blankets and Throws: Blankets and throws come in all kinds of fabrics and prints; let us not forget the traditional tartan pattern. Choosing fabrics like flannel, fleece, fur, knits, and velveteen brings in warmth. Just drape your favorite throw on the sofa, or maybe your favorite reading chair and your living room will feel cozier. Bedding layers complimented with a couple of new cushions is what your bedroom needs to welcome winter. 44 | november 2016
3. Fireplace: Nothing beats the ambience and beauty of a fireplace. Now, you can create that mesmerizing atmosphere with indoor electric fireplaces and bio ethanol fireplaces. Not only do they complement your room dĂŠcor, they also heat it up. They are portable enough that you can put them away in summer.
5. Candles: Candles of different heights and colors spread a warm glow transforming your home with the exquisite winter incense of rare woods, sandal woods, wood smoke, oranges, cinnamon, clove, cardamom, vanilla, patchouli cedar and the list goes on.
2. Wood: It is undeniable that wood generates natural warmth in closed spaces. For a relaxing cozy atmosphere, incorporate wooden accessories. Try a natural wooden coffee table, a new accent chair, a vintage wooden chest of drawers in an empty corner, or maybe make use of African ritual and ceremonial masks if you are into infusing different culture tastes into your home dĂŠcor.
4. Colors: This winter trends are leaning towards richer color scheme like midnight blues, rich green, burgundy and ink colors. You can include winter morning greys and icy white as long as you can balance them with warm shades of creams and mochas. Pine cones in a wooden basket, wooden log side tables and cream chunky knit blanket such accessories play an important role when pursuing this look. Mixing icy colors with rich hues is also doable.
6.Rugs: Those cold winter nights can get harsh at times. Cover up those bare wooden or tile floors with area rugs and runners for hallways. Keep in mind that rugs are the effortless way of redecorating. Swap light bright colored summer rugs for shaggy faux fur, chunky knit, woven or wool ones. Placing floor mats in bathrooms can partly assist in locking the cold out. november 2016 | 45

Where should you extend your beach fun this fall?
W By: George farid
we, middle easterners, are accustomed to two main seasons; we burn in scorching suns and chill in freezing winters. Our springs and autumns are rather extended summers and winters. When flowers blossom, it is already summer. When leaves fall, we welcome winter. We get clothes for two seasons and that’s how our year is divided.
50 | november 2016
Have you ever given it a thought to extend your summer? A daydream everyone looks for. Have you still got vacation in your annual balance that you want to make use of ? How’s it like to have a summer vacation in Christmas? Wouldn’t you love to leave your coats in the closet and pack your swimsuits for a trip in December? We’re often adapted to spend winter vacations in ice cold places, where the truth is, many travelers chose their favorite season and decide chasing it all year long. So they travel across the hemispheres and enjoy a summer or winter that extends all year. Same goes for a small post season vacation.
Where should you go? Split the world horizontally into 3 quarters; Americas, Europe and Africa together, then Asia. Now look below the equator. And you got yourself at least 60+ countries to explore. This is the result of the tilt of the Earth’s rotation relative to the Sun. That provides a December to March summer in what we call, the “Southern Hemisphere”. Let’s summarize your summer destinations. Your options run a variety, from adventure to tranquility destinations. Apart from the Red Sea, 71% of the world’s water surfaces run through oceans, immense and enormous ones.
For the Indian Ocean beaches, these countries deserve a visit: Philippines, India, Nepal, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, Indonesia, Australia (South-East Coast), Mozambique, Mauritius, Seychelles, Madagascar, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Oman. For the Atlantic Ocean, these ones stand up: The Caribbean’s, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, South Africa (Cape Town Coast) and the Canary Islands. Simply put, the destinations are endless. In the meantime, don’t unpack your swimsuits and start planning your post summer vacation. Remember, the world isn’t only about your home street, your neighborhood. Not even just your city and your country. It is full if mysteries and wonderful places. You’ve got to move around, roam, and wander! Take a vacation, explore the unknown and make more memories.

GET RID OF UNDER EYE DARK CIRCLES
D
ark circles go far beyond lack of sleep and fatigue. The causes most of the time can be internal. As annoying as it can get, first, you need to address the causes in order to find the right treatment.
So what are the causes of dark circles? • Fluid retention. • Stress. • Excessive salt in the diet. • Sun exposure with no protection. • Allergies. • Iron and minerals deficiency. • Thinning skin and loss of fat and collagen – common as you age – can make the reddish blue vessels under your eyes more obvious.
Remember, it all starts from within. Don't forget to treat the causes and not just conceal them.
Here is how to treat it: • • • •
Get your beauty sleep. Follow a healthy, balanced diet. Drink a lot of water, reduce salt intake. Regular use of natural remedies such as teabag compress and cucumber slices can help minimize the appearance of dark circle. • Yoga and meditation are essential to relieve stress as well as calming your mind. • Cosmetic procedures and professional help are advised in serious cases.

The Detox diet, is it the new magic?
“
BY: RANA ABDELNABY
I’m going on a three-day detox” is a sentence that you’ve probably heard from people around you. Some people believe it’s a great way to cleanse your body, and some even think it’s a shortcut to losing weight. But, what exactly is a detox diet? You’re probably asking yourself these questions; is it good for me? What should I expect out of it? What are the benefits of going on a detox diet?
What is a juicing/ detox diet? This type of diet replaces all of your meals in a typical day with smoothies. You’ll basically be drinking your meals, instead of eating them.
How does it work? Typically, a detox diet comprises mainly of naturally occurring foods; Fruits, vegetables, along with some nuts and seeds; basically the sort of food Mother Nature provides us with. Any sort of processed foods isn’t a part of the diet. During a detox diet, your body gets filled up with antioxidants and phytochemicals, which work to boost your metabolism, refresh your body and strengthen your immune
54 | november 2016
system. It’s like you’re giving your body a break from all the processed sugar, caffeine, preservatives, and unhealthy ingredients, which work to slow down your metabolism, day by day.
Should I go on a detox diet? Is it for me? The answer is; it depends. Most people would benefit from a detox diet. Some may even consider it a spiritual experience. However, before you go on a detox diet, you need to consider your current life style and the duration of the cleanse process. For instance, you certainly don’t want to go on a detox on the day you’re running
your first half marathon, your body would need more than a bunch of smoothies. However, most people with sedentary and lightly active life styles would find a 2-day detox relatively easy to follow. Athletes may find a typical detox diet challenging to their bodies, as it would not be sufficient to meet their daily nutritional needs. No worries athletes, you can still get the same experience by detoxing for a day!
Bottom line is, whether you work out or not, a detox diet should last between one and three days. If you continue beyond that, your body may start developing deficiencies in essential nutrients, which would mess with your energy levels, and that would beat the whole point of going on a cleanse.

6 Foods that help banish bloating
T
his is for the days you're struggling to fasten your jeans...
• Avocado: You can chop it up on salad, spread it on toast, or make some guacamole out of it. No matter how you choose to eat avocado, the monounsaturated fats you’ll get from it will help keep you full without a bloated belly.
• Brown rice: As it is complex carbs, it takes longer to digest and will make you feel full for longer than white rice does. Make sure to swap white rice for brown rice in your next meal.
• Watermelon: Not only is it a refreshing fruit, it is also a high-water-content one. Watermelon will make you feel full without having that awful weighed down feeling.
• Lemon water: Start each day with lemon water. Lemon when paired with warm water reduces water retention as it also flushes toxins and excess fluids from the body.
• Bananas: Bananas are rich in potassium which helps combat bloating caused by salty food. Potassium controls sodium’s role in retaining water in the body.

What are the best foods to boost your immunity? Citrus fruits, garlic, mushrooms, red bell peppers and Ginger
Do you suffer from mood swings?
Fix with Food
A lot of people tend to have the blues and feel down during seasonal change, especially now that we are approaching winter. It is important to be selective with your choices of food that fight mood swings without adopting harmful eating habits. Fruits such as blueberries, raspberries and strawberries contain nutrients that reduce stress. Lean protein like salmon, is packed with omega-3s known for fighting mood swings. Low levels of B12 are one of the causes of depression, so it is important to fit B12 into your diet through oysters, crab, egg, and cottage cheese. november 2016 | 59

Are You Afraid Of Change? By: yasmine shahine
Have you ever noticed that Change is the only constant thing in our lives? Lots of people really freak out on the idea that any change might happen in their lives. The fact is, if you really think about it, you’ll see that we all experience different forms of change in our daily lives. Think about it for a second! We grow up every single day, move from school to college, get into relationships, our status changes which will eventually lead to changing homes! If you have kids for example, your whole life style will change. You may sometimes lose someone you love…..the list is really endless here! So if it’s really that simple, why do we fear any change and how can we shift our mindsets to transform these fears to opportunities?
• Fear of Criticism and what others might think The fear of what others might say and think about your decisions can really stop you from believing in yourself and from accepting
60 | november 2016
any change. On the contrary, believing that you do have the confidence to take action in the face of fear not only provides you with a sense of control, it will also provide you with a life full of purpose and joy. Isn’t that really what we’re all trying to achieve?
• Your brain is convincing you that you’re glued or handcuffed to a certain place. Focusing too much on the external world can lead us to handcuff ourselves to certain places or situations just because we fear that we will lose something. You might stay in a job that you hate just because you are afraid that you might lose the vacation days you haven’t taken yet! Think about it. When you’re 80 years old, are you going to be happy that you wasted your life for a few weeks of vacation? It’s limiting thoughts like these that keep us trapped in situations we don’t want to be in.
• We forget that we always have options and we
will always have a choice.Sometimes when you’re trying to make a big decision, you can force yourself out of fear that you don’t have a choice rather than accepting a current situation which is ruining your whole life. You can stay in a relationship where you are really unhappy and even being abused just out of the fear of not having another choice or option. It only takes a little brainstorming, self-belief, and confidence to come up with many options that can help you overcome that fear of change.
• Fear of the Unknown The fear of the unknown is what stops most people from making any positive changes in their lives.Your imagination, most of the times, automatically dreams and makes up endless scenarios of terrible things that could happen. But let’s think about it. You have the ability to imagine the worst thing that could happen and in the same manner, you also have the skill to use your energy to imagine the best thing that could happen too . It’s a matter of focus. So why do you waste
so much time and energy imagining the worst when you can direct this exact energy to see the best that could happen as well?
• Doubting yourself and your capabilities How many times have you asked yourself these questions? • What if I make a mistake? • What if it’s worse than what I have now? • What if I fail? If you want to achieve great things in your life or even just achieve inner peace sometimes, you will have to step out of your comfort zone and try something totally new. Even if you only end up learning that you don’t like it, you’ve learned more about yourself and where you want to go in your life.
Always remember, if you don’t like where you are now, MOVE! You are not a tree! Start Slowly. Celebrate every small Achievement. Eventually you will stand above your fears and start living a better life

Butterflied Grilled Chicken with a Chile-Lime Rub:
Ingredients: 3 tablespoons chile powder 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil 2 teaspoons freshly grated lime zest 3 tablespoons lime juice 1 tablespoon minced garlic 1 teaspoon ground coriander 1 teaspoon ground cumin 1 teaspoon dried oregano, preferably Mexican 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 1 teaspoon freshly ground pepper Pinch of ground cinnamon 1 3 1/2- to 4-pound chicken

Directions: 1. Combine chile powder (or paprika) and oil in a small bowl with lime zest and juice, garlic, coriander, cumin, oregano, salt, pepper and cinnamon to form a wet paste. 2. Using kitchen shears, cut the chicken down one side of the backbone, through the ribs. Make an identical cut on the opposite side to remove the backbone completely; discard (or reserve it for stock). Place the chicken cut-side down and flatten with the heel of your hand. Generously smear the spice rub under and over the skin and on the interior of the bird. Place in a nonreactive baking dish. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight or up to 24 hours. 3. Preheat half the grill to mediumhigh (or build a medium-high heat fire on one side of a charcoal grill); leave the other half unheated. Have a squirt bottle of water ready by the grill. 4. Leave all the spice rub on the chicken. Place the chicken skinside down over the heat and grill until the skin begins to color and char marks form, about 5 minutes. (Extinguish any flare-ups with the squirt bottle.) Flip over and grill 5 minutes more. Move the chicken to the unheated side. Close the lid and cook, making sure the chicken is flat against the grate, until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part of a thigh without touching bone registers 165 °F, 30 to 40 minutes. A Painting of Gardened Words The Art of Communication in the Realm of Love By: Lauren K. Clark
T
he power of the tongue has its place since the beginning of time all the way back to the word. It is the word which creates life and it is the word that can take it away. Words create those loving feelings we yearn from our family, friends, and lovers. Words also break hearts, dreams, and relationships. For behind every word, there is a color, shape, texture, style, flair, design, and emotion. We hear it over and over again. So much that it has been tuned into auto play in the magic of our psyche. Communication! Communication.
66 | november 2016
Communication. Communication. It’s one thing to talk with your partner. It’s another thing to converse. Yes. Converse. The magic of having an intimate conversation, where you are able to capture the feelings, existence, and depth of your partner’s being. Through words, one is able to feel her/his partner’s energy. In the Gardens of communication, there is wisdom and most importantly, there is love. However, it is power in the spoken word, which can grow or dispel a garden. Words can be velvet-smooth, delicate, while igniting the flames of love. Then, there are those words, which are potent vapors, and literally have
the potential to leave the Garden. . .breathless, sucking the very life from its haven. Communication is nothing more than the drawing and painting of words and mutual understanding. Both man and woman have to work hand in hand to create their masterpiece. They need to ask themselves as they observe their craft. Is the painting pleasing? Does it express a harmony in their bond? Is there a display of understanding, affection, and the care for each other’s? It is, without a doubt, a must for couples that their souls are bare! For in being bare, the two of you are able to convey every emotion and allure of your existence. Truth is
celebrated! Truth is painted! Even discomfort becomes natural! Like the rhythm of the brush it is a smooth caress, bringing forth a revelation of your partner’s needswhat they desire, their fears, and their perception of. . .you. If the painting is bare, one not only learns about their partner, but the portrait of both souls together. Painting until it becomes a visual image on the palette When doing any task, it’s always important to be attentive to the work and detail that goes in completion of the
project. The same goes for communication . While painting your conversation, are the two of you paying attention? Are you seeing the movement of your partner? Their body language? The grimaces of their face? Hints of pain or discomfort? Laughter? And. . . .do you hear the color of their words? The rhythm? The strokes of their brush? Because truth be told, fixing an ugly painting means nothing if a couple cannot trace the rhythm or pattern of the final work. Then, of course, there is the interaction during the painting.
Touch is a vital factor That supports the words the two of you choose to paint. Touching each other during the conversation is not only a therapeutic endeavor; it is also a way to keep the painting. It is something that empowers life within words. As the two of you stand to leave the Garden, you examine reflections of the masterpiece. Whether you are pleased with the fruits of your labor is another issue. Yet, at least you can see the energy of your words and seek improvement in your painted ballad, you always return back to the origin of. . .your words.

2. What are the strategies and the vision you have for The Westin Cairo Golf Resort & Spa Katameya Dunes?
1. You have a rich experience in the hospitality industry, even prior to being GM of The Westin Cairo Golf Resort & Spa Katameya Dunes; could you please tell us more about it? After graduation and travelling the world, I went to do a traineeship program at a hotel owned by a friend of my father. I started in the banqueting department and as the boss left, I ran the banqueting department for two years in a small hotel. I worked my way up as I joined The Palace of The Lost City at Sun City and held various positions , Banquet Manager , Snr Assistant Food and Beverage Manager , Food and Beverage Manager of The Palace of The Lost City , a leading Hotel of the World. Later, I was fortunate enough to move to Cape Town in 2007 as Director of Food & Beverage at The Westin Cape Town and five years later I got promoted as Hotel Manager at The Westin Cape Town. It is an exciting brand to be with, and when the opportunity came along for Cairo, I decided to take up the challenge. 68 | november 2016
Westin is a fresh and energetic lifestyle brand that is enjoying great momentum due to its unique wellness positioning. The vision we have for Westin Cairo is to introduce a new level of wellbeing into Cairo. The world is seeing a global trend towards a healthy lifestyle and our focus is to bring that to life at the hotel and inspire our guests towards wellbeing before, during and after their stay. The Westin strategy is not to only focus on one market; which is perceived as the weekend market, but rather cater to different ones. We are a hotel that can focus on the corporate customer, the day use customer, business meetings, corporate events, and the weddings which; is a big thing in Egypt. We serve the weekdays and weekends clientele alike. Westin is a holistic package, and that’s what makes it unique.
3. Does the current situation of tourism in Egypt make it difficult to implement this strategy? Egypt is a country with a very rich history, it is very vibrant. I believe there is a very big future for Egypt as well as an equally big opportunity for the Westin here. This is our second Westin in Egypt after Westin Soma Bay. There’s a great focus on the local market and our local customers. We are focusing our energy positively on the opportunity we have to position this hotel as to be a special place; a unique sanctuary in Egypt. Let’s also not forget that there’s a lot of business in Egypt and people will always be coming from different parts of the world; and we as a hotel are keen on sending a positive message globally through our international customers and loyal guests.
4. In this very competitive market, how do you make The Westin Cairo Golf Resort & Spa Katameya Dunes stand out? Westin is bringing something different; it’s a young and fresh lifestyle brand with a mission of being a part of our guest’s wellbeing. Westin is focused on the Six Pillars of wellbeing; Feel Well, Work Well, Play Well, Eat Well, Sleep Well and Move Well. These pillars are the touch points through which we bring the brand to life across every guest experience. The Westin Cairo Golf Resort & Spa Katameya Dunes features an idyllic, naturally-lit indoor plunge pool as well as a sprawling, heated outdoor pool located at the center of the resort. Additionally, the 3000 square meter Heavenly Spa by Westin boasts 10 therapy rooms and two couple suites as well as state-of-the-art facilities, including a high-tech steam room, “Rain Shower” and sauna – all designed to soothe the spirit, rejuvenate the body, and enrich the mind. The hotel also offers the renowned RunWestin program with three- and five-mile jogging routes through the residential neighborhood, as well as a WestinWorkout fitness studio with state-of-the-art exercise equipment from world-class brands in an open, airy and well-designed space. There’s the renowned Heavenly Bed which transforms the sleep experience for our guests and ensures a restful sleep.
5. Success can’t be achieved without a productive teamwork, how do you inspire and motivate the team of The Westin Cairo Golf Resort & Spa Katameya Dunes to set a benchmark, and mark a strong positioning in the hospitality field? It is very important that the brand; our wellbeing concept is also lived by our associates. We encourage them to follow a healthy lifestyle. Our Service Culture Training program isn’t only to educate them about hospitality; we focus on educating them on how to live the Westin brand so they become able to deliver it. We run ongoing Brand Activation Day for our associates so they experience every part of the Westin and have a very good understanding about every operation being run at the hotel. We make sure to meet our associates’ needs while offering them the opportunity of a healthy lifestyle.

Get Inspired Mariam Yehia,
The Passion behind MRS. KEEPA 1.Could you tell us more about the moment you decided to be a fashion designer and your experience prior to that? I started my fashion career 3 years ago; the idea of having my own fashion line was a dream I had since I was 10 as I come from a family of fashion where design and styling runs in the blood. My mother uniquely designed and made all of my clothes, a talent she has taken after from her mother, my sister is also a renowned Bridal Designer. I started with a different career in advertising and marketing but the dream never stopped chasing me throughout my 12-year media journey. Then, it was this one day, in my honeymoon; I was walking with my husband in the streets of Florence and I noticed a big shop of fabrics with a beautiful vitrine display of different colorful fabrics that I literally felt it was looking at me saying “Create me into a design!” This moment has never departed my mind for almost 2 days which revived all dreams and passion for fashion. I couldn’t stop talking about it to my husband who looked at me with a BIG smile saying “Mariam, it is about time you follow your dream, I believe you were born for fashion.” I woke up the next day emailing my company with my resignation and shortly after, I enrolled in Esmod Dubai to learn all about the technicalities of the fashion industry. As soon as i finished my studies, i opened my own atelier and workshop and started working on my own pret -a -porter line labeled MRS. KEEPA which was launched in Dubai earlier this year in May 2016 74 | november 2016
2.MRS. KEEPA; your fashion label, what was it named after? The Brand was named after my husband’s Bassel Nickname KEEPA; he was a professional goal keeper in his teenage years and his friends called him KEEPA. Bassel has always been my main support throughout the career shift journey. Actually, naming my brand after him was the least I could do to show appreciation, needless to say how much I love the name
3.Being half-French Half-Egyptian living in Dubai, which makes you more of a global citizen, how does that reflect on your designs? Honestly, there wouldn’t be a better place than Dubai for my brand to see the light. Dubai has brought us the world in one city, which is the perfect market for MRS. KEEPA. My
brand addresses exposed women with open-minded and edgy character. My mixed roots have majorly influenced my personality in general and that was reflected in so many aspects in my life including my designs. My collection is clearly inspired by the Parisian woman’s simplicity and elegance with an oriental twist of color mixing and styling.
4.We really loved the ultra-chic 50s look in your show at Fashion Forward Dubai, what inspired you into that look and color choice? My new collection is indeed inspired by the 50s Era with a 21st century twist. You would find the 50s in the clothes details especially the stiff or rounded collars. I appreciate the fashion from the old eras; it is so rich with details and glamour that fashion lacks nowadays. Mixing the before and now creates an interesting mix that the MRS. KEEPA brand is known for.
5.What is the style that best describes MRS. KEEPA designs? I love the mix of cultural prints, embroidery and clashing colors. MRS. KEEPA is a mix of a Boohoo luxe and sport chic. A direction that it instantly gives a feeling of laid back freedom, youth and a kind of roaming gypsy life which I guess is something we all long for at some point. An escape from the stressful fast pace lives we all live.
6.In this fast growing fashion industry, what are your plans for expanding your label? OHH!! The plans I have for MRS. KEEPA is so big that I wouldn’t even know from where to start. For now, i am finalizing deals with international department stores which I will be disclosing very soon .
