A note to oneself:
If you are upset now, you will be happy later, if you are happy now you will be upset later. If you are selfish now, you will be selfless later. If you are selfless now you will selfish later. If you are on the top, you will hot rock bottom later, if you are at the bottom you will rise up later. If you are in love all you have is now, if you are alone love will find a way. If you are planning ahead, a bump on the way will appear. If you are on the bump now you will soon go with your plan, or maybe change it to another. What you thought you will always love, you will despise later, and what you thought you will never do, you’ll do and vice versa. If you can’t survive without carbs, you will soon have to and if you stopped eating it you will get sick! It all depends on where you stand and how you feel to whom and why... If you kept saying ifs you will get tired and bored, so just stop the ifs and deal with what you have! Always is not forever and forever is just now... Nothing is forever... So just do what you love to do and do lots of it! A solid promise to do what you love and lots of it, although promises are made to be broken! With lots and lots of love...

hether you’re in to “New Year New Me” or it sounds absolutely ridiculous to you, when it comes to fashion and style, you know there’s always room for improvement. As the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology’s studies’ suggest statistically & psychologically that wearing a certain garment can affect your cognitive processes, meaning, your outfit may actually modify how you interrelate, approach and network with the outside world. So basically, when you think you look good, you definitely feel good and vice versa. Only you, doesn’t matter what others think. Fashion is like food, all about taste and different reactions. So dress up like there’s no tomorrow. These Alagabany 5 styling tips will keep you fancy and fearlessly feeling fabulous in sweet 2016.
1
Embrace the little teeny weeny victories that make an entry statement. Doesn’t need the extreme effort you’re imagining, at all, you probably already have it buried in your wardrobe, just style it up right. The striking electric blue bag, the seriously distressed pair of denims, the tight fitted leather pencil skirt, the colorful sneakers, the big fat fur jacket, the appealing stilettos, the cool hoody and the one and only huge hat. Remember & sing along, "It's the eye of the tiger / It's the thrill of the fight / Risin' up to the challenge / Of our rival"

Brno Mars surely comprehends how humans think, we all wanna be billionaires so freakin' bad, buy all of the things we never had. Surely looking sloppy and careless won’t even place us on the cover of ladybird magazine smiling next to Oprah and the Queen. Always save a percent from your income for your clothes and fight being a shopping victim. Make it a blissful habit that every item of clothes you spend a dime on, you donate a dime conversely. Check out your closet like a regular seasonal stock count. You’ll find tons of pieces that won’t fit nor flatter you anymore, then you know it’s time to say goodbye. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Do it with a smile.
3 Since all the songs in the world just suddenly popped up in mind, let’s not underestimate Mr Daft punk’s lyrics, Work it harder (style practice) Make it better (style challenge) Do it faster (style experience) Makes us stronger (style confidence) … it’s doable, adjustable, amendable and utterly possible. You work smarter to be promoted, you eat healthier to stay slim, you exercise more to remain fit, and therefore effort should always be exerted to accomplish your goal, so why can’t we invest a bit more time in dressing up to feel chic, elegant, stylish and sharp. Looking beyond fashionable IS NOT OUR AIM HERE, feeling good is our top priority. Challenge your confidence, add socks to your kitten heels, over exaggerate your sun shades, dangle the pompon from your branded bags, wear the Lagerfeld chain, dress up the turban, wear leopard with polka dot and bright up the lipstick. Come on, try it …… seriously, don’t be a bore, get up and give it a try!!

As Helena Rubinstein says “There are no ugly women, only lazy ones”. Be femme fatal, look sexy in a suit, girlish in a track outfit, playful in a cat suit, be trendy with sport shoes. kill with that little black dress and show off skin only in a classy manner. Your super simple look could develop into super statement in no time. Mind you, basic doesn’t really have to be that basic for God’s sake. This is when your own touch comes in. Try to escalate from pretty good to pretty great. Of course, while nicely dressed, “Never frown, because you never know when someone is falling in love with your smile!”
5
Retro and vintage will never be out of style. You can buy them or you can borrow them. Your father’s bow tie, your mum’s fur coat, your brother’s T.shirts, your boy friend’s white loose shirt and certainly your granny’s block heel python pumps. Everything comes back and now back is really trending. Everything old is new again, so be intelligent to dig in your folks’ closet and wake the dead. Long time ago, our elderies believe as quoted: “clothes and manners do not make the man, but, when he is made, they greatly improve the appearance.” YOLO, forget fashion, just feel fancy & fearless …… Make 2016 your most stylish year ever!!

Louis Vuitton Casts A Video Game Character In Spring 2016 Campaign This season, Louis Vuitton took that notion one step further and enlisted a video game character for its Spring 2016 campaign. Nicolas Ghesquière opted for a relatively unknown star (at least in terms of the fashion world) for Vuitton’s Series 4 campaign, lightning from the Final Fantasy game series. The creative director unveiled the campaign starring the pink-haired character on Instagram, which was created in collaboration with video game artist Tetsuya Normura. The theme for spring’s campaign is the merging of reality and fantasy, which resulted in a scifi, futuristic look starring Lightning with the season’s coveted patchwork Go-14 bag on her arm. While the industry has been merging more and more with the tech world over the past few seasons, this marks the first campaign to cast a video game character in lieu of a real human.
Harrods boss says top fashion brands are targeting children to get them hooked on designer labels. Some of the world’s biggest fashion houses are creating ‘kiddie couture’ as a way of attracting future customers, says the boss of Harrods. Gucci, Christian Dior, Valentino and Fendi have all shrunk their adult ranges to try to get children hooked on their designs at an early age, according to Michael Ward, managing director of the luxury department store. Including Gucci sandals and Dior wool felt coats for eight-year-olds. Annual global market for high-end children’s wear will reach £19billion in 2017. Fendi and Chanel’s creative director Karl Lagerfeld has launched a kids’ collection.

New Home Ideas For A New Start! BY: SALLY EL BARDESY
42 | januray 2016
W
elcoming the New Year is a new start a new chance and a new look for sure. Room, office, home, kitchen or bathroom a place where you daily visit is part of you and part of the new start. Here we do propose some creative ideas for a place full of happiness and positive energy. Also some of the ideas are as easy as the DIY’s and others are by shuffling some items at home. And finally recycling! • Dip paint your old kitchen utensils and hang them to decorate your kitchen • Repaint the wooden chair or change fabrics for a new style • A one of a kind idea is to draw or decorate your electric appliances. The fridge, dishwasher and water dispenser for example • You can now find hand painted tiles in stores, buy and stick them around the corners • Old serving plates can be used for the soap by the sink or for towels at bathroom • Don’t throw school and university folders place them on the dresser or on a console for flowers, brushes and makeup

Travel Like A Boss BY: FADY HANNA
44 | januray 2016
E
ver wished someone had told you some tips before you get on that plane and start your vacation? Ever wished you had planned it a bit better before taking off ? Ever wished to go on with your best buddies but couldn’t do it because of work or other commitments? Well, here are some thoughts and tips from what I’ve learned through my travels to almost half the countries of the world in the last decade.
Plan it early .. Very early!
While spontaneous and last minute trips have their own thrill, I tend to stick to the old school of planning everything as early as possible. We’ve just started 2016 and you’ve just got a fresh vacations balance, so why don’t you open the calendar and allocate the days over the next 12 months! Yes, 12 months! This is not a joke. I know that we, Egyptians, can find that really challenging as we’re not used to it but this is the right way to do it if you want your travel dreams become a reality.
Save little money every month for traveling! I’ve seen people who turned down trips that they can generally afford because they spent the money on something else that they probably don’t need. Please set your priorities and save for it, on monthly basis! Happier people buy experiences rather than things. The closest qoute to my heart is “Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer”. I know girls wouldn’t like it but believe it or not, traveling is better than shopping!
Never miss a chance!
Those who turned down trips because they had work commitments and said they were too busy didn’t really finish the tasks that they have stayed for. Also, those who made it to the trip came back more refreshed and were able to catch up easily with their commitments. Moral of the story: make memories that you’re proud of because that what will stay with you forever!
Go beyond the Cliché
I can’t argue that some clichés are great like a trip to Paris, Rome or Barcelona! However, a traveler should see and explore everything else. The good news is that the other places will be less crowded, cheaper and still amazing to visit. Out of the 82 countries I visited, I am confident to say that I enjoyed it a lot more away from the tourists.
Do your homework!
You gotta earn it! Do your research and reading about your next destination before stepping in there. This will help you to decide the right duration of your stay, the best location of your accommodation, the best tours to join and the worthy attractions to visit. Read reviews and if possible buy books and read what the travel bloggers said about it.
Stay positive .. Always!
People will say that you’re crazy and that you should probably get married or buy an apartment instead of traveling the world. Just smile, agree with them, book your ticket and leave. Traveling is a lifestyle and it shouldn’t contradict with your personal preferences, job or family. Sadly, the negative vibes sometimes come from the closest people but don’t make it let you down because you’re the winner!

Q&A
LADYBIRD’S You Ask, Experts Answer! 1
Yamini Durani

My preschooler wants a pet. Are there better options than another? Doctor’s Answer:
Turtles and hamsters aren’t wise pet choices for young children. What many parents don’t realize is that reptiles (like turtles) and rodents (like hamsters) can transmit the bacteria salmonella through their feces (or poop). Even beloved cats and dogs can still bite, scratch, trigger allergies, and carry infections too, but they are better choices than other animals.

A friend told me tampons are dangerous and can cause cancer. Is there any truth to that? Doctor’s Answer:
No. Tampons do not cause cancer. In fact, tampons have been found safe by the U.S. FDA. Also, manufacturers no longer use bleaching processes that were found to leave traces of the toxic chemical dioxin. So rest assured; tampons are safe to use.

Can I have my period and still be pregnant?
Doctor’s Answer:
Doctor’s Answer:
Big NO. There is no truth to this at all.
46 | januray 2016
No. Menstruation is the shedding of the lining of the uterus after ovulation when a woman does not become pregnant. So, it is not possible to have a period and be pregnant. But it is possible to be pregnant and have vaginal bleeding that may seem to be a period.

What causes low blood sugar levels? Doctor’s Answer:
Normally insulin is secreted by pancreas matches the fine tuning of blood sugar; when pancreas does not sense the blood sugar normally and when sugar rises more than required, it produces more insulin than a normal pancreas should, hence blood sugar falls. It is considered a prediabetic condition and treatment is small frequent meals containing less refined carbohydrates, exercise, stress and weight reduction. This may be a normal feature for some healthy individuals also, but mechanism remains the same.

When is a good time to start talking to my child about sex?
What are some warm ways to wear dresses and skirts during the winter?
Doctor’s Answer:
Expert’s Answer:
Understanding sexuality is a lifelong process. Parents give children messages about sex and sexuality from the time they are born. Experts suggest that by age five, children should be taught “the basics” — the names of body parts; that love should make people feel good, safe, and wanted; and that their bodies belong to themselves. Elementary school children should have a basic awareness of gender roles, health care, human reproduction, and sexual identity, and they should be comfortable with their own sexual thoughts.
If you simply are not a pants kind of gal, fear not, because there are plenty of stylish tricks to make dresses and skirts work in the winter. Here are the top suggestions: Soft, opaque tights can give you the warmth and coverage you need when wearing a skirt or dress. Try the layered look by adding a long sleeve stripe tee or collared oxford shirt underneath. A snug fit shirt works best in this case, and feel free to play with color and prints, too.
How do flu vaccines work? Flu vaccines cause antibodies to develop in the body about two weeks after vaccination. These antibodies provide protection against infection with the viruses that are in the vaccine. The seasonal flu vaccine protects against the influenza viruses that research indicates will be most common during the upcoming season.
What are the benefits of flu vaccination? • Flu vaccination can help protect people who are at greater risk of getting seriously ill from flu, like older adults, people with chronic health conditions and young children (especially infants younger than 6 months old who are too young to get vaccinated). • Flu vaccination also may make your illness milder if you do get sick. • Vaccination helps protect women during pregnancy and their babies for up to 6 months after they are born.
Who should not be vaccinated? Different flu vaccines are approved for use in different groups of people. Factors that can determine a person’s suitability for vaccination, or vaccination with a particular vaccine, include a person’s age, health (current and past) and any relevant allergies, including an egg allergy.
Why do I need a flu vaccine every year? A flu vaccine is needed every season for two reasons. First, the body’s immune response from vaccination declines over time, so an annual vaccine is needed for 48 | januray 2016

optimal protection. Second, because flu viruses are constantly changing, the formulation of the flu vaccine is reviewed each year and sometimes updated to keep up with changing flu viruses. For the best protection, everyone 6 months and older should get vaccinated annually.
Myth: Getting the flu shot protects you from catching the flu The truth: Scientists agree that what gets you sick is not the actual virus but the condition of your immune system. In other words, a weak immune system is what may let you catch the flu.
3 Tips To Naturally Boost Your Immune System 1. Vitamin D: Good levels of Vitamin D are crucial to help you fight against viruses and to keep you healthy year round. Make sure you take at least 1,000 IU of Vitamin D3 during the winter, regardless of sun exposure. 2. Reduce Your Sugar Consumption: Table sugar and high fructose corn syrup raise your blood insulin levels, which in turn decreases the release of growth hormone and weakens your immune system. 3. Garlic: This delicious culinary ingredient has antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, and antiseptic properties, and has long been used to fight off and prevent colds and infections.

What is muscle memory?
When you teach your body how to do something; ride a bike, surf, strike some yoga poses, run a few miles, it creates a physiological blueprint. So even if you take some time off, you’ll get back to where you were faster than it took you to learn the exercise in the first place. Muscle memory stems from your body’s learning not just how to perform a task, but also how to break down muscle tissue and then repair and rebuild it. That physiological knowledge lets you come back from injury, surgery, and even pregnancy faster, easier, and often better than before.
Bulletins/Fitness
Muscle Memory
Fact
The more exercise you do, the more memory you can bank and the easier it is to make deposits. It's like a health savings account. And as with any savings account, it's best to start early, like now! Research found that the ability to make new muscle decreases as you age. The earlier you start and the more you build, the better off you'll be later in life.
Your Body Never Forgets!
If you take a few months (or years!) off from exercise, you will huff and puff and feel achy as your body gets back into the swing of things. But if you establish a history of fitness, your pain will be a lot more manageable. Any sweat equity you invest forges a cardiovascular and strength blueprint that helps you make gains faster and be less prone to soreness and injury than someone who has never lifted anything heavier than a glass of merlot or has run only when chased.
Why your muscles remember?
Not surprisingly, the process of forging muscle memory originates in the brain. When you learn something new and your brain fires up all the right motor units (nerves that signal muscle fibers to kick in) to help you perform the movements. Once your muscle fibers get the memo from your brain to move, they start sending messages back. When you move, you activate sensors (called proprioceptors) in your muscles, tendons, and joints that constantly give feedback to your central nervous system about where your body is in space, so it knows what muscles to fire next. It’s a continuous feedback loop from your brain to your muscles and back. 50 | januray 2016
Good news!
Muscle memory's impact extends beyond general fitness. The physical changes your body undergoes while building a fitness platform help speed up your metabolism, make you more resilient to stress, and bolster your immune system. Muscle memory not only helps you get more from every workout but also spills into your everyday life, making you a better-functioning human being.

What is gluten? Gluten refers to the proteins found in wheat endosperm (a type of tissue produced in seeds that’s ground to make flour). Gluten both nourishes plant embryos during germination and later affects the elasticity of dough, which in turn affects the chewiness of baked wheat products. Though “true gluten” is sometimes defined as being specific to wheat, gluten is often said to be part of other cereal grains: including rye, barley and various crossbreeds, because these grains also contain protein composites made from prolamins and glutelins. Why is gluten bad? Gluten isn’t necessarily bad, but some people are gluten-intolerant, meaning their bodies produce an abnormal immune response when it breaks down gluten from wheat and related grains during digestion.
What are the symptoms of gluten intolerance? Symptoms of gluten intolerance include diarrhea, anemia, bone pain, and a severe skin rash called dermatitis herpetiformis. In cases of gluten intolerance, doctors typically recommend a gluten-free diet. Patients must avoid eating any foods and ingredients that contains gluten, including bread, beer, French fries, pasta, salad dressing, soy sauce and even some soups (unless otherwise marked as “gluten-free”).
Bulletins/Nutrition
Gluten
How can you know if you are gluten intolerant? The only way is to be tested. The first test is typically a blood test that detects antibodies related to an abnormal immune response. If the blood test is positive, a biopsy is performed to confirm inflammation in the lining of the small intestines. The bottom line: If you think you may have a problem with gluten, get tested.
Making smart choices on a gluten-free diet Thanks to the increasing selection of gluten-free foods, it has become far easier for people with true gluten problems to eat healthy diets. The basis of a healthy gluten-free diet, as with any diet, should be natural foods including lean meats and fish, fruits and vegetables, and low-fat dairy products. Grains that don’t contain gluten, such as quinoa and amaranth, are another healthy option.

ow do you feel when every December of each year your friends ask you “So, what’s your New Year’s Resolution?” then it hits you all of a sudden that you haven’t really maintained your last year’s resolution to start working on the new one already!!! What happened to the promises you have made to yourself, but never kept? Before you continue on reading this article, I want you to get a pen and paper and start writing down some notes. I want you also to pay good attention to what I’m about to tell YOU!!! 54 | januray 2016
First, I want you to know and believe that nothing happens over night; everything needs planning. Even being nice to people requires practice, then it becomes a habit. So, let’s start jotting down some of the habits that you have been wanting to change, but there was not enough motive to push you, or no one around to help you do it.
What do you want to change in your life? Is it getting a new job, doing better in school, living a healthy lifestyle, doing more physical activity, sleeping early, riding a bike instead of driving your car? It could be anything.
Why do you want to change that particular thing? Even if you want to lose weight, or live a healthy lifestyle, you’ve got to ask yourself why you want to do it. Are you doing it for yourself or just to keep up with the Johneses?
When can you start? Mark your calendar for the date you want to start working on your goal. It doesn’t have to be tomorrow, it only has to be when you are mentally, emotionally, and physically ready. Yes, you read it right; Mentally, Emotionally, and physically ready. If you are missing one of those three you simply will not be able to put 100% into it. If you are planning on living a healthy lifestyle for example, start with cleaning out the fridge and cabinets. You may also want to contact some of your close friends for support and make them join you as a team.
Take action? Once you have done the steps above, you can start taking actions. Even if you are pretending that you started already, that will put you in the mood of whatever you want to do, by time you will find yourself reaching the goal without sweating it. Let’s say you want to be fit; start acting like a fit
person through the way you walk, talk, and behave. A fit person may carry a bottle of water in their hand all the time; start doing so. May be right now all you do is drink juice. Switch that glass of juice to naturally flavored water, like adding some fresh strawberries or lemon slices to your water. Quit the All or Nothing habit, because it’s usually a setup for failure. Start cutting back on a particular food that you usually indulge with. Like cutting back on chocolate; instead of having it every day, have it every other day, then every two day, until you reach a point where you only have it once a week.
Say it out loud? When you say things to yourself out loud you start to believe. You can even use a voice recorder, or use voice notes and record what you are saying to yourself. Hear how you sound; see if you really mean it. Listen to what you tell yourself every day. Every time you start getting demotivated start listening to your voice notes. Be firm about what you want and how you will do it. If you don’t sound too convincing, keep repeating it to yourself in so many different ways until it becomes convincing. Saying things out loud engages so many parts of the brain that you can actually find a solution to a problem you have had but couldn’t figure out until you have said it out loud.

Greens & Beans
S
upposedly greens are eaten on New Year's Eve because they resemble money. Beans, like greens, resemble money; more specifically, they symbolize coins. Whether you choose black beans, lentils, or black-eyes peas, healthy fiber-filled beans will help soak up that champagne.
Try: Sesame Greens and Bean Sprouts Ingredients: • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds • 1 teaspoon canola oil • 1 onion, chopped • 2 garlic cloves, chopped • 1 small savoy cabbage, finely shredded (10.5 ounce size) • 1⁄2 head bok choy, finely shredded • 1 1⁄2 cups bean sprouts • 4 tablespoons oyster sauce • 1 dash black pepper 56 | januray 2016
Directions: Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Toast the sesame seeds in the pan until lightly brown and fragrant. Pour the seeds into a small bowl to cool. Set aside. Heat the oil in the skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onion and sauté until tender, about 3-4 minutes. Add the garlic, cabbage, and bok choy; stir-fry until cabbage is wilted but still slightly crisp, about 5 minutes. Add the bean sprouts, oyster sauce, and sesame seeds, and cook for 2 minutes. Season with a dash of black pepper and serve warm.

ish are believed to be lucky because their scales resemble coins, and they swim in schools which invoke the idea of abundance.
Try: Salmon with Mango Salsa Ingredients: • 1 kilo salmon fillets slices • 1 teaspoon garlic powder • 1 teaspoon chili powder • salt and pepper to taste • juice of 1 lime • mango salsa • 2-3 mangos, diced • ½ red pepper, diced • ½ red onion, diced • 1 small jalapeño, seeded and finely chopped • ¼ cup packed cilantro leaves, roughly chopped
Directions: • In a medium bowl stir together mangos, red peppers, onions, jalapeños, and cilantro. Set aside until ready to use. Stir together garlic powder, chili powder, and salt and pepper (I used about ½ teaspoon each). Rub mixture into salmon fillets. Grill over medium heat for 6-8 minutes on each side. • Squeeze fresh lime juice over grilled salmon, then top with mango salsa and serve.

Love & Relationships
Shoveling Through Snowy Treasures
Re-Building, Re-claiming, and Renewing Relationships in the New Year
I
BY: LAUREN K. CLARK
t’s called...”the thing,” and for the purpose of truly tapping into “the thing,” we will, for now call it “the thing.” With the year coming to an end, and a new era to begin, those who stand the test of time will take that extra push in fulfilling their relationship. They will re-commit themselves, again, once more . That thing... hmm, could it just be a renewal, recommitment, reenergizing of the human Spirit, or renewing the aspect of love? A form of “winter cleaning,” where old relationship inventory is shoveled out like snow, and couples can start fresh. Forgiving all of those terrible moments of arguing, storming out, or even this...betrayal. Things are not always bad as it may seem. Right? That is what the two of you have come to conclude. That your love for each other is more important than any strife, agony, lie, homewrecker, or any heartbreak that happened during the course of the relationship. And so you went through the healing phase of rekindling the relationship to the best of your ability. It was a difficult journey, but the two of you made it. And you are willing to start over in hope of a better you, a better he, and a better we. You say that you won’t talk about the past. And that is absolutely certain. That old emotions are out the window. Yet, is it that easy? Is it realistic? Is it possible for a couple to move on, forget about the past as if nothing happened...or even worse, as if nothing will happen again. The reality is that even in the renewal process, there is the likelihood of past pains and doubts arising. Is it safe to shovel them under the snow, or to be honest about the possibility of such pains rising up again? Or it is healthier to take a look at the past, and revisit how the things of the old, are causing for insecurities in the 58 | januray 2016
new? Hiding winter’s tale doesn’t solve the problem. On the contrary, it can also create an illusion that you have moved on from the past. That you have created a type of healing system, that the two of you have secretly brought healing within your relationship to create a new, may not simply be true. What may be the solution to solving this, you may ask? Well, the answer is pretty simple. TALK. Part of the renewal process is not hiding the past, but confronting it. And after it is confronted, it is important to work through it. Renewing does not mean that you forget. What it does mean is that you are willing to utilize the new phase to avoid past mistakes, and to work on new techniques that ensure you will have a more healthy, fulfilling, and a more successful relationship. Things are likely to end up re-establishing trust, a true recommitment, and to foresee past hurts no longer being a future problem. What it also means is that you are willing to bring the art of healing into the equation. Healing is simply an act of re-building. It weeds out what no longer works. Like our observation of winter, the snow glades over the Earth, covering what used to be. We see all of the things that did not work. All of the dead things that were unfulfilling to the relationship. And in the stillness and silence of winter, the visible reflections of the past become obvious. Snow does not become a covering for that which no longer exists. What it does serve to do is to highlight the spots and sectors within the relationship that are dead; no longer vigilant, or nutritious in the very essence of life. Yet, if we shovel under the snow, we are able to present those dead plants, trees, or flowers to the surface. Examining for ourselves, our relationships do not have to hide out old deeds in the cold. It is part of that enlightenment, and that ray of hope which gives new meaning for the New Year, and which brings the start up for the new phase for the relationship. If such has not taken place, then perhaps it is best to get out our handy dandy shovels, and let the digging begin.
• Shovel #1—Did you find a painful episode that you never conveyed to your partner? Something that caused you to feel pain at the very idea of it? • Shovel #2—Was there an old memory, adventure, or “thing,” that you wished would have been lived out in your relationship? • Shovel #3—Is there anything that you see concerning how your partner is currently feeling? Is there something that they hid from you, which shows how they are currently feeling regarding this whole “renewal”? Are they somehow in pain as well? Or did you take the time to investigate their feels, as well as your own? • Shovel #4—Is there still some form of life under the snow? You know? The beautiful memories. If traces of green are there, how can you use this to start the new chapter, in the New Year? • Shovel #5—Even with the traces of green, what type of garden do you plan on bringing in the Spring? And do you envision new fruits? Going through the snow and cold of winter can be a tedious, and tiring process. At the same time, it can also be one that provides opportunity to use hidden life that may just have the dose of reality and truth needed to bring renewal to any relationship. As we transition into a New Year, old ideas can be new practices. Finding life that feeds the love the two of you yearn to be part of, brings new meaning to what is being re-built. And the beautiful thing is that you are able to do it better this time around...only to find those hidden treasures beneath the snow.

How To Tell Your Child You Will
Remarry
Here are some points to bear in mind when breaking the news to your little ones. Reassure your child. Don't force your children to get along and accept their new step-parent right away. It's a major adjustment and you need patience. Even if your child gets along well with your fianceĂŠ, remarriage often revives the pain of divorce or death. Through loyalty or fear of betraying his/her father or mother, your child might want to refuse to participate or help. It is important to reassure him/ her, to tell him/her that you understand and respect his decision. Prepare him/her for a solution that lets him off the hook; such as going to his father's place or 60 | januray 2016

You have found a new love, and he has asked you to marry him and you have said, "YES!" You want to shout your happiness from the rooftops, but chances are that you or the man in your life may have a few people who need to be the first to hear your happy news... The kids. Hopefully, throughout your relationship with the new man in your life, you have been able to include the kids and have developed a relationship with them so the news that you are getting married is not coming to them out of the clear blue sky. But the most important thing no matter how old his or your kids are, is that the news needs to come from you before they hear it from anyone else. If the kids are young, they may be confused.
a friend's place during the wedding. He/she mustn't feel abandoned but it's important that his/her refusal to attend won't influence your decision to go ahead. Whatever happens, your marriage will occur because it's a matter for the grown-ups to make decisions about their own lives.
Understand his/her worries. This is partially because less loving time and attention is focused on the child in lieu of the new spouse and any new children they may have. The very best way to help your child accept a second marriage is to wait until they are ready. She/he may be afraid that perhaps be called upon to move, to share his/her room with a half or step-sibling. He/she may be worried about what
will happen to her daily play routine, vacation plans and general activities. On the other hand, it may well be that a new marriage will bring about an ease in financial constraints so it is important to be honest and explain how change is always hard for everyone but that there will be some very good changes that come out of the new family situation. Point out how there will be easier ways to do things with more people on board to help out. Reassure them that despite the changes, her/ his relationship with both her parents remains one of love, support and respect for her. And let her/him know that despite the new marriage, you will be still be there for her/him, together planning the future, with her as she grows up and supporting one another. Most children of divorced parents exhibit many more behavior problems
if their parents remarry when parents don't take the proper steps to ease the transition.
Be patient. A very stubborn refusal that includes rebelliousness and anger won't be resolved overnight. Talk to your ex-spouse to get support for helping your child through this transition. If he/she hasn't remarried before you, odds are he/she will be in the future, so either he'll have already been through it or she/he will be open-eared about what he will experience should this happen to him as well. Show openly to your child that you and your ex-spouse still have your child's concerns at heart first and foremost in your discussions; this isn't the time for dragging through old hurts but it is a time for putting your child's concerns first. january 2016 | 61

“Old is Gold” with NK. redo By Nehal Keshk While on the hunt for new talents to be featured this issue, we came across a different kind of talent, a talent that is built on creating a “new” from an “old”! NK REDO offers a concept that is rather new to the local industry, which is redesigning. Nehal Keshk, founder of NK REDO, shares her story and ideas with us... Tell us more about yourself; how did you get into fashion? Well before getting into fashion I originally studied Computer Science at the MIU , but couldn’t see myself working in that field. I was more interested in creation and design, and at the same time I was sick and tired of the endless errands to the dressmaker; and given that I’m veiled, it was really frustrating to reach the design I had in mind with the limited option in the market. So I said to myself, why don’t I learn it and do it for myself ? And I went for it and joined the Arab Society for Applied Arts (ASAAD) to learn more about the various fashion techniques.
62 | januray 2016
What’s the story behind NK Redo? The whole redoing thing was a result from my own frustration, because I couldn’t find clothes that are appropriate for the Hijab, and like many women, I always end up patching up the revealing parts or changing the design all together. So I wanted to find a more creative way to do so. This is basically how it started off, and then I used the techniques I learnt, and I built on it through doing my own research. I started practicing on my own clothes first, then one thing led to another and I decided I was ready to share what I do with others and spread the whole concept to help other women. How is redoing is different from designing? Both involves the same pattern techniques; the only difference is that with redoing/redesigning you’re limited to the material, cut, and measures you got in hand. So you don’t have the freedom you have with designing, and you have to be extra careful so you don’t damage the piece you’re working with. What about the teaching part? Can you tell us more about it? A big part of what I do lies in helping others. I wanted to spread what I learnt and help women take advantage of what they already have; I wanted them to believe that they can do it themselves, and that with some basic techniques and sufficient practice, they will be able to translate their Ideas better and reach the look they want accordingly. Do you have a certain approach when it comes to teaching? I have an average of four students per session, and I try to work individually with each and everyone to tackle their weakness points. And I implement an all practical approach; I don’t really believe in theoretical learning, as it’s not that sufficient in that field. What is your main struggle doing what you do? Lack of resources and tools. There are many more techniques and creations that could be implemented with the availability of more advanced equipment. Finally, what’s next for you? I want to take NK REDO to the next level. My plan is to open a bigger atelier real soon and gather a trained team who understands the concept of redesigning, as well as expanding to have my own Ready-to-wear collection in 2016. DECODING EGYPT....
BY: Haidy Zakaria
I’ll Go To The Gym This Year…Promise The first time I promised myself I’d go to the gym was January 1st 1882. It was in another life, but I’m pretty sure I didn’t go that year either, partly because in 1882 there weren’t any gyms but mostly because by January 5th I’d usually give up on the “resolution” concept. With the beginning of each year, we make “resolutions” and “bucket lists” and “to-do lists” and “lists of people you promise to call more often” like that aunt you don’t really like but always tell you’d call…yea that one. January first holds a lot of promise and hope and fancy wrapping paper on a new year that is all about the potential and the things you always wanted to do but never got around to doing. Ah, yes, that fresh-new-year-smell that gets us all in the mood for adventure, for dreams, for picking up new hobbies and finally getting in shape is always wonderful, until we hit the second week of the year and discover that we still have that report due and a bunch of paper work that we haven’t touched *sight*. I’ve read too many posts and tweets about new year’s resolutions already and I find them all so great, in the sense that I want to try all of them at once. So, hell yea,I want to climb Kilimanjaro and learn how to surf; yes I want to read 50 books this year and travel to a place I’ve never been before and yes I want to give Rosetta Stone: French a , ehm, third try and learn la langue d’amor or whatchamacallit but here is the question, can I? I’ve always found it more frustrating than fun to keep up with my new year’s resolutions. Do you know anyone who has finished theirs? If so, who are they and how can we kill them? right? So, this year, I thought that instead of making resolutions, I’d make a plan. I’ll pick one thing and plan it out and get it done. Just the one thing, but one thing I’m hell bent on seeing through. For example: I’m going to plan and finish my first manuscript, with outlines, schedules and buddies to spot me and tell me when I’m slacking. Don’t you think that sounds a bit more realistic? So tell me, what’s your plan this year? Not resolution, plan? I’d love to hear all about them. Drop me a tweet @haidyzakaria and tell me about it. who knows, maybe I’ll join in. 64 | januray 2016

clinic
Liposuction and liposculpture at InShape clinics In Shape, Cairo’s top cosmetic chain of clinics is a true transformational platform that helps many change their lives. Among the various services lays one of the most popular procedures in the arena of plastic surgery. According to the clinics’ experts, Liposuction is the most asked-for service in Egypt that both women and men opt for. Liposuction, or liposculpture, is a direct method for removing stubborn deposits of localized areas of fat. At InShape cosmetic clinics we utilize three methods of liposuction: Ultrasound technology Vaser®), Laser technology (Smartlipo®), and Vibration technology (Moller’s Vibrasate®). Depending on each case’s condition, the optimal method is determined. A) Vaser® Lipo A state-of-the-art ultrasound technology designed to gently reshape your body. What distinguishes the Vaser® Lipo procedure is its ability to differentiate targeted fat from other important tissues – such as nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue, giving a superb degree of precision, rapid healing, and great sculpturing results. B) Smartlipo A form of intelligent liposuction laser technology that disrupts fat cells and tightens face and neck tissues. At InShape we take pride in being the only clinic capable of using Smartlipo in fixing double chins, lower face area, and jaw line definition. C) Moller® Power Assisted Technology Vibration-supported liposuction is the modern way of surgical fat removal. Here, the suction cannula is moved axially in a fast vibrational mode; this serves in combination with the suction vacuum to microscopically and gently cut and remove fat tissue. Vibrasate is a timesaving procedure that offers higher precision. At InShape, we utilize the Moller® power assisted technology, which is a vibration-supported liposculpture technique. Why do we offer different machines for our liposculpture procedures? Because at InShape we know that each body type is different, and that you deserve the customized solution that better suits you. Not only are we keen to provide the best and one of a kind technology in Egypt, but also we stay up to date with the most advanced solutions that guarantee optimum results and safest procedures.
Capricorn December 22nd – January 19th
Life: It’s a time when you might feel the need to access superior knowledge, when you’re interested in important topics, wish to know more, improve yourself, specialize, spread your information.
Aquarius This is an excellent time to build new social contacts and form new relationships. You are likely to be argumentative which may not help matters in your career.
Love: It’s all about your relationships, Cappy. When you get sad, it’s easy to try to push those bummer feels away, but that ends up making you agitated or extra bummed with a side of confused. Deal directly with your heart, even if it’s painful or confusing. Make sure you’re working on what you love, so you can bring that good stuff with you into 2016.
Aries You are on a drive to get things done. You want to place a spark into everyone you know and work with and infuse them with your own enthusiasm and sense of purpose. There is a danger that you may alienate others as you are too arrogant in the way you approach matters.
Career: So 2016 brings Capricornians wealth as a result of success through work, but can also offer frustrating times and, at the same time, unexpected income. Fashion Tip: Your sign “rules history” and is known to like old pieces and browsing antiques. As such, you’ve likely found at least one fabulous old dress or jacket that you’ve incorporated into your 21st-century wardrobe. Whether yours was scored at a deep discount at your local thrift store or nicked from a grandmother’s closet, it has history that appeals to you.
Pisces Stop! Re-think and rethink again. Do not be afraid to go back to the drawing board on ideas and plans as this month you will be challenged to rethink things from a new angle and to take a slightly different direction.
Taurus You will think about things long and hard before you act, you will most likely delay making an important decision until the end of the month when you will act decisively and make an important choice which you will stand by. Gemini A very hectic and even chaotic start to the New Year for you, dear Gemini. Your first priority is to get your finances in order, or you could be in for a nasty surprise mid-month. Cancer Children may play a big part in your life this month. It is a month of hands-on parenting and not a laissez faire approach, you will have to take control and make some decisions.
Leo Discussions within business partnerships and also in situations where you work with your spouse should also happen. It will be hard to reach understandings and have constructive conversations. Virgo You need to be more concerned about what you can see rather than what you cannot see. It is not the unknown or the secret enemies that can create obstacles for you this month, but something right under your nose! Libra Taking stock of finances this month is important for finances sake; it should not lead you to equate yourself with what you earn. Scorpio It is not only holding your tongue but learning when to stay quiet; too much or allowing something to slip out can lead to some embarrassment. Think before you speak, and remember that the less said about some things, the better. Sagittarius Complacency and the tendency to assume things is your biggest problem this January. You must carefully make lists and tick things off, try and be systematic and not haphazard about the way you go about things.
