Balloons
Eid celebrations and Ladybird’s 5th anniversary! What could be a happier month! This calls for a cake and a bunch of balloons to celebrate! I love their colorful look and the happiness that is always associated with their presence. Happy childhood pictures show balloons in their backgrounds, cheerful ads have balloons in their visuals, and caring mothers bring balloons to their kids to see a beautiful smile on their faces. Balloons aren’t just airy, colorful balls, they are a great object to learn from. Balloons present a tiny thing that brings lots of happiness and cheerfulness. Be like a balloon, whenever it is there, happiness prevails… Something as minor and cheap as a balloon could bring a lot of joyful moments… “Nobody can be un-cheered with a balloon” said Winnie the Pooh! As childish as it sounds, it carries a lot of deep meanings that only the wise will understand… A balloon need air and energy to be a balloon; same goes for everything in your life! Nothing will reward you back unless you exert effort, time and dedication to its cause. And above all believe… Balloons will blow up in your face if you blow too hard. Same goes for anything that you push too hard on… Pushing your kids to do something they hate, pushing work subordinates, pushing your partner, etc. Pushing is not bad, a balloon wouldn’t be a balloon without some pushing, but too much will eventually blow in your face!
It takes the biggest balloon, the tiniest needle to blow it! and when it blows off, it scatters into tiny pieces. Your words can be needles that blows people’s feelings and rupture their emotions. Balloons are outgoing! YES, seriously they are! They go where the wind takes them. Be someone who is not afraid to be driven where the wind takes her/him. I give by beloved Ladybird 5 balloons representing the years it gave me cheerfulness and happiness like nothing ever did to me… Happy anniversary Ladybird! I love you…

What are the best tips and products for having a clear complexion? Stay away from soap, it is highly alkaline, and it can damage the skin's natural barriers. Choose a soap-free cleanser instead. Avoid UV rays as much as possible, this is the basis for preventing premature aging and lowering your risk of developing skin cancer. When outdoors, wear a wide-brimmed hat and choose clothing that covers as much of the skin as possible. Protect your skin. Never go out in the sun without wearing sunscreen, preferably with a zinc oxide base. Apply half an hour before exposure. Boost your fiber intake, skin impurities are often due to digestive problems. Good health starts with good nutrition, so make sure to eat plenty of healthy foods for glowing skin such as fruits, raw vegetables and whole grains. Avoid the enemies of your skin: stress, late nights, coffee, alcohol and cigarettes. Hydrate daily; proper hydration can minimize the appearance of wrinkles, prevent tightness and dryness and "pump up" the cells, giving a softer, more even look to the skin. Drink plenty of water, skin is up to 15% water. Try a facial mask with fruit acids, with regular use, fruit acids and enzymes can help clear away dead skin, improving blemishes and imperfections and clarifying the skin. Regular physical activity restores vitality to your skin and remains the best way to stay in shape. Use: Olay Dual Action Cleanser and Pore Scrub, Garnier Nutritioniste Moisture Rescue Lightweight UV-Lotion, Yves Saint Laurent Teint Radiance foundation, Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief & Johnson's Face Care Daily Essentials Wipes.

7elua.com
fter Agzakhana.com’s huge success, Ahmed Shabana is now introducing 7elua.com, Egypt’s first dedicated online beauty store. With the growing trend of e-commerce and online shopping taking Egypt by storm, the market still lacks specialized online stores. 7elua.com is part of the Agzakhana company operating on the drugstore.com model. The model simply relies on seperating online shopping between beauty and healthcare products.
As drugstore.com and beauty.com operate, Agzakhana.com and 7elua.com deliver within 24 hours on major signature premium beauty brands. In addition, there are some wellbeing products that overlap between healthcare and beauty. For instance, you can shop for epilators and tampons in the same basket that has your favorite perfume, an experience you can’t have at your favorite physical beauty store. You can pay for your order at the door when it arrives or by credit card but 7elua.com is considered the first ecommerce portal to provide “Wallety” as a method of payment. Wallety, launched on Sunday the15th of July 2012, is considered to be the Egyptian equivalent to PayPal brought to life by the Arab African Bank. Wallety is secure, easy, and can be used with the same account to pay for future integrated e-commerce and online services. There are cool shopping extras when placing your order with 7elua.com. Get free beauty samples and discount deals by subscribing to the newsletter. The portal is in beta phase which means there are expansion plans to include more brands and private labels. Products are guaranteed for originality and quality with a flexible return policy. “The demand for beauty products from Agzakhana.com has been huge, that’s why we had to come up with a dedicated separate store. It will make us a company that serves our customers better and channel healthcare and beauty products sales.” Ahmed Shabana

Honey 5 Reasons why honey is one of the essential beauty ingredients you should use: 1. Honey’s natural antioxidant and antimicrobial properties help protect the skin from the damage of the sun rays. 2. Honey supports the skin’s ability to rejuvenate and refresh depleted skin, leaving it feeling silky soft and supple. 3. One of the most common natural skin care benefits with honey is related to treatment of minor acne which could be caused by hormonal changes. 4. Honey absorbs impurities from the pores on the skin, making it an ideal cleansing agent. 5. There are a huge number of honey products in the market for hair care, baby care and skin care. There are sunscreens, hand lotions, facial scrubs and moisturizers.
5 Pampering Homemade Natural Skin Care Recipes with Honey: 1. Cucumber-Honey Toner: Puree 1 cucumber in a blender, drain and collect the juice. Add 2 teaspoons of honey into the juice and mix. Pour the mixture into a bottle. Apply on the face and neck area with a cotton pad in the morning and at night. Air dry it and rinse clean. Store the bottle covered in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. 2. Honey-Apple Toner: In a blender or food processor, combine 1 peeled, cored apple with a tablespoon of honey and pulse until smooth. Apply mixture to face and allow it to stay for 15 minutes, then rinse. 3. Gentle Honey Cleanser: Mix 1⁄4 cup honey, 1 tablespoon liquid soap and 1⁄2 cup glycerin (found in drug stores). Apply gently to face using a face sponge. Rinse with warm water and pat face dry. 4. Hot Honey Bath: Perhaps the easiest natural skin care recipe using honey. Add 1/4 cup of honey to your hot bath water for silky and luscious skin. This is especially good for dry skin. 5. Honey Olive Hair Conditioner: For lustrous, silky, healthy hair and scalp, simply combine 1/2 cup honey and 2 tablespoons to 1/4 cup olive oil. Massage scalp with this conditioner, then put on a shower cap for 30 minutes. Shampoo and rinse as usual.>>

Coconut Oil 5 Beauty Benefits of Coconut Oil: (Hair, Skin & Nails) 1. Dry & Damaged Hair: (If you have dry and damaged hair, coconut oil can help nourish it.) Simply rub some of the oil into the damaged ends a half hour before showering. 2. Glossy, Shiny Hair & Frizz Buster: After washing, drying and styling your hair, rub a small amount of oil into the palms of your hands then lightly apply to your hair.. If you have a problem with frizzy hair, the above treatment will also help tame it. 3. Exfoliating Facial Scrub: Mix equal parts baking soda with coconut oil and massage into face. Rinse with warm water to remove baking soda residue. 4. Dark Elbow Patches: Rub into skin each morning and night until desired results are achieved. 5. Dry Scalp Treatment (Each night before going to bed, follow these 5 steps): •Part hair one section at a time and rub coconut oil into your scalp. A light application is all you need. •Repeat process for entire head then massage for a few minutes to really work it in. Run a wide tooth comb through your hair to comb out any tangles then put on a shower cap. •Keep the treatment on overnight. Cover your pillow with a towel just in case the cap shifts in the middle of the night. •Wash your hair as usual in the morning. •Repeat daily until you are satisfied with the results (may take up to 5 weeks before the dryness is gone).
Rose Water 5 Main benefits when using rose water which is an excellent beauty product: 1. Using rose water daily will make you feel fresh all day long. 2. It is the best solution for puffy eyes. 3. For any eye pain or fatigue, gently dip a cloth in rose water and place it on your eyelids for a soothing feeling that helps cool your eyes. 4. Rose water works as a natural cleanser. 5. Rose water is also a healing agent, and can be used in treating wounds. For sunburns, rose water can be gently rubbed over the affected area or when taking a bath, add a few drops and relax while the magic takes effect.
Freshness: Apply rose water to your face. Dip a cotton ball into the rose water and apply it. It instantly makes your skin feel fresh. Coolness: Add rose water to a cucumber paste. Take a cucumber and make it into paste. Then add rose water to it and apply it to the face. Wash it after 15 minutes. Smoothness: Mix one cup of rose water to the bathing water. It will make your skin feel smooth.

Avocado 5 Ways to use an avocado for beauty care: 1. Avocado Facial Cleanser: Beat the yolk of an egg until it is light and frothy, add a half cup of milk and the mashed half of a ripe peeled avocado. A blender is handy here, but if you don’t have one, beat the mixture with a fork until you have a thin cream or lotion-like consistency. Apply on squares of cotton as you would any other cleanser. You may also use this deep cleanser after ordinary soap and water, if your skin is normal. It’s quite effective against pollution and grime. Therefore, it’s a very pure method of keeping your complexion free of pollutants which can interfere with normal skin function. 2. Avocado Moisturizer: The inside of the avocado peel is actually valuable. The precious oil hidden away in the peel of the avocado is also a wonderful facial moisturizer. To be technical, the oil contains a humectant, a substance that holds moisture. Using gentle upward strokes, lightly massage your face with the inside of the peel. Let the oil residue remain on your skin for about 15 minutes. At that time you may either leave the oil on your skin and go to sleep or, if you intend to put on make-up, wash your face gently with three or four rinses of tepid water and pat dry. The oil will be invisible but it is there, ready to hold your foundation or powder in place for hours. 3. Avocado Eye Treatment: Nobody really knows WHY this is so effective on under-eye puffiness, but it IS. The procedure is very simple: peel an avocado, remove the pit, and slice a half into quarter-inch crescents. Lie down, secure a few slices under each eye, and rest for about 20 minutes. The result is corrective magic! 4. Avocado Dry Skin Mask: Beat the yolk of an egg until it is light and frothy, then add the mashed pulp of a half avocado, blending it well (you may use a blender at this point). Cleanse your face thoroughly before using this mask (or any mask). Spread the avocado mixture over the face and neck evenly; relax on a slant board or bed for about 20 minutes. Remove with clear tepid water and a face cloth, followed by a rinse of cold water or a mild skin lotion. The result should be a marked improvement in skin texture, and all-around revitalizing. 5. Avocado Oily Skin Mask: Put the white of an egg, a teaspoon of lemon juice, and the mashed pulp of a half avocado into a blender. In seconds, you should have a lovely green mixture. Wash your face and neck thoroughly, then apply mask evenly on those areas. Relax for 20 minutes; remove with tepid water and a face cloth. Follow with cold astringent or skin tonic. Effortless Home Makeover!
Home redecorating might be the last thing we consider doing because these days, when it comes to spending, we’re all a bit miserly. Yet, being the restless spirits that most of us are, change is usually on our minds. Fortunately, change can happen in nearly every room without wrecking the budget. Here are some simple, fast, and easy tips to redecorate your home without breaking the bank.
42 |
| August 2012
1. Get loads of inspiration and ideas Spend some time browsing the pins on Pinterest (facebook application that provides you with lots of inspirational pictures.) Do some Google search; it will give you a variety of choices. Then check out a few magazines on interior design and home decor to get ideas. Take note of the design elements that you like most. Which colors, textures, and patterns are particularly appealing to you? Jot down any and all of those designer tricks that you find aesthetically pleasing and that you could incorporate inexpensively into your own space.
2. Dress the big stuff Since our focus is on the cheaper alternatives in home decorating, we won’t be buying new furniture, so consider livening up your space with quality slipcovers. These can have a dramatic effect and are particularly ideal if you have quality furniture with some cosmetic blemishes. If you don’t like slipcovers, an alternative is having your furniture reupholstered, which may be less expensive than you think, depending on the piece of furniture and the price of the new fabric.>>

3. Dress the windows Besides paint, the right window treatments can give you a big bang for your buck. Your choice of fabric can make all the difference in your room. For drama, choose strong colors and patterns with heavier textures. For a light and airy room, opt for sheer draperies in pastels. While the right window coverings are important, they don’t necessarily have to be super expensive.
4. Go nuts with accessories This is the fun part. Use your personal sense of style and taste (coupled with the new ideas and know-how from your decor notebook) to add inexpensive pillows, sconces, candles and candle holders, art, photo frames, floral arrangements, throw blankets, decorative fruit bowls, fresh towels and other home decor elements. Dress up your dining room chairs with skirts and chair covers, add a dramatic table runner and an elaborate centerpiece.

A quick coat or two of paint can do wonders for any space, and it’s an easy project to do by yourself in an afternoon (or two). Just a few hours of work can yield dramatic effects, elevating a boring, blah room into a cozy, warm space. Even if painting isn’t your favorite part of the home decorating process, it needs to be done first so you can make sure all of your other design elements will match or coordinate with the room itself. Wallpaper, wall tiles, wall flats, fabric panels, and vinyl embellishments are other attractive and affordable options to quickly and dramatically change the look and feel of a space, particularly if you are renting and need a more temporary and removable option.

5 European City Breaks Ultimate Leisure & Adventure!
Seville…The city that has it all You’ll find sizzling hot Seville at the heart of Andalusia, southern Spain. Seville’s citizens pride themselves on knowing how to party; they passionately celebrate Semana Santa (Holy Week) at the beginning of spring, and just weeks later the vibrant feria festivities bring carnival spirit to the city once again. Shady medieval streets wind from plaza to plaza whilst the scent of orange blossom follows your every step during spring. The city’s stunning Plaza de España is a short stroll from the city centre and showcases Renaissance Revival architecture. Its varied architecture goes unrivalled elsewhere in southern Spain; an intriguing jumble of Roman, Islamic, Baroque and Renaissance influences provides a photo opportunity at every corner. But Seville’s real magic comes alive after dark; enjoy balmy evenings with some of Spain’s finest tapas, catch a late night flamenco show and join in with the party-loving locals.
St Petersburg…The city of endless charms St Petersburg was named the ‘window to the West’ by its founder, Peter the Great. He envisioned a city that would rival the modern metropolises of Europe and his vision remains evident in modern St Petersburg. Neoclassical and Baroque architecture fuses harmoniously whilst a network of waterways weaves through the city and earned it its title of ‘Venice of the North’. Russia’s second largest city is best explored on foot; wander the grandiose streets, elegant waterside walkways and marvel at the lavish tsarist relics. The State Hermitage museum is an absolute must; with over 3 million works on display, it’s an art enthusiasts dream with a fascinating collection that spans the Far East, Russia as well as Western Europe. The city is famous for its romantic ‘White Nights’ phenomena when the sun barely dips below the horizon meaning that night and day are hard to distinguish. Light or dark, we defy you not to succumb to the endless charms of St Petersburg.

Travel brings power and love back into your Rumi life.
Budapest…The city of magical blends Divided by the romantic Danube River and linked by a series of bridges, Buda and Pest are united to form one of Europe’s most enthralling cities. Hungary’s capital has come a long way from its turbulent 20th century happenings but its history can still be seen all over the city. A strong sense of East-meets-West pervades the city from years under Ottoman rule. One of the top Ottoman relics are the steaming outdoor Turkish baths dotted around the city. The architecture is absorbing with a blend of Art Nouveau, Neo Classical and Baroque throughout the city. Budapest offers excellent value for money and caters for most budgets and tastes, ranging from up market restaurants, high-end boutiques and luxury hotels to affordable independent eateries and low-key guesthouses. Stroll the banks of the Danube, cross over the Chain Bridge, take the funicular up to the enchanting Buda Castle, enjoy local food and join local revelers for a taste of Eastern Europe’s exciting nightlife.
Berlin…The vibrant city Since the 1989 fall of the Berlin Wall, Germany’s capital has become one of Europe’s most vibrant cities, as well as one of this year’s most popular destinations. Berlin is teeming with famous landmarks; the Brandenburg Gate (an 18th century peace symbol), the Reichstag (the impressive parliament building that offers panoramic views of the city from its glass dome) and Checkpoint Charlie (the symbolic crossover point between East and West Berlin in the Cold War). With its high student population and the late 20th century influx of creative types, Berlin’s cultural scene is thriving. And the city has something for everyone; bohemian cafes stand next to the finest restaurants, student drinking holes are nestled alongside sophisticated cocktail bars, and underground clubs can be found close to the city’s grand opera house. A long weekend simply isn’t long enough to delve deep into Berlin’s rich history but just a few days spent there will make you want to come back for more.
Venice...The city of romance With its myriad of canals, bridges and magnificent piazzas, Venice is undoubtedly one of the world’s most romantic cities. Start your tour of the city at the dreamy Byzantine Basilica di San Marco. The sparkling, mosaic encrusted interior will undoubtedly leave you dazzled. A weekend in Venice wouldn’t complete without a trip on a gondola, be serenaded down the historic waterways, under quaint bridges and past hidden marble churches. Contrast Venice’s old world allure with modernity at Peggy Guggenheim’s extensive art collection. Lesser known folk artists rub shoulders with big names such as Picasso and Rothko in Peggy’s palatial home on the Grand Canal. August 2012 |

Pay Less, Fly More with
flydubai
Established in March 2008, flydubai is Dubai’s first low-cost airline and the fastest growing start-up airline in the world. Since commencing operations in June 2009, the airline has established an operational route network of more than 45 destinations across GCC, Middle East, North Africa, Indian Sub-Continent, Asia and the fringes of Europe and has built up a fleet of 23 aircrafts. flydubai supports Dubai’s commercial and tourism sectors by serving all travellers and providing them with affordable air links to a range of destinations. The airline is dedicated to quality service and comfortable travel, lowering costs by optimising operational efficiencies and offering the passenger more choice.
In just under three years, flydubai has grown to become the second largest carrier operating out of Dubai International Airport. It has also targeted destinations that did not previously have international flights such as Abha, Gassim and Yanbu in Saudi Arabia. It became the first low-cost carrier to offer direct flights to destinations such as Kazan in Russia and Kharkiv in the Ukraine. flydubai also provides the most comprehensive network of all Middle Eastern carriers to Central and Eastern Europe operating to 13 destinations across eight countries. flydubai operates flights to more than 45 destinations across 29 countries in the Middle East, Africa, Subcontinent, CIS and Central and Eastern Europe from its base at Dubai.
Over the past 12 months, the airline has been working on signing a series of deals with Global Distribution Systems (GDS) providers to allow thousands of travel agents around the world access to its fares. Through this, travelers can now connect to any other available airline from a flydubai flight.

flydubai’s fares include everything a person needs to travel – i.e. the price of the seat, all taxes and 7kg of hand baggage – with everything else, such as checked baggage, seats with extra legroom, food, refreshments and in-flight entertainment offered as optional extras, putting passengers in control of how much they choose to spend.
flydubai has some of the aviation industry’s most sophisticated seating, engineered to provide more comfort and extra space. The repositioning of the rear seat pocket to a higher level means that there is an extra two inches at the knees, easing one of the most common reasons listed for airline customer dissatisfaction, lack of legroom. In addition, the new pocket design helps to maintain hygiene on the aircraft as it is much easier to clean than traditional fabric pockets. The seats are ergonomically designed by one of the world’s most specialized seating manufacturers “Recaro.” flydubai CEO, Ghaith Al Ghaith, said that the detail to seating was typical of the flydubai philosophy. “Our focus is geared completely to the cost, comfort and convenience of our passengers. These Recaro seats are incredibly advanced and have been the subject of a great deal of engineering and design. These are the Rolls Royce of aviation seating.”
flydubai is at the forefront of adopting innovative technology including the revolutionary ‘Fiber-ToThe-Screen’ (‘FTTS®’) IFE system from Lumexis. It’s the only airline in the world to screen movies in highdefinition. At more than 500 hours of entertainment, including 156 movies, 161 TV programmes and 288 music albums, flydubai offers more choice than any other low-cost carrier in the world. In short, flydubai does not only provide passengers with affordable travel options, but it also gives them the chance to enjoy a very pleasant flight experience with its new, clean aircrafts, cozy atmosphere, hi-tech in-flight entertainment, cheap movies, and delicious food. The staff are very well trained, they’re friendly and hospitable, and their uniforms are funky chic which adds to the nice image of flydubai. Flights can be purchased from flydubai’s website (flydubai.com), its call centre (+971 4 231 1000), flydubai Travel Shops and through travel partners. August 2012 |

What are the hypothyroidism symptoms in newborns? Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) is a condition in which the thyroid gland doesn’t make enough thyroid hormone. Babies born without a thyroid gland or with a gland that doesn’t work properly may have few signs and symptoms like yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes. In most cases, this occurs when a baby’s liver can’t metabolize a substance called bilirubin, which normally forms when the body recycles old or damaged red blood cells. Symptoms also include frequent choking, a large, protruding tongue, and a puffy appearance to the face. As the disease progresses, infants are likely to have trouble feeding. They may also have constipation, poor muscle tone, and excessive sleepiness. When hypothyroidism in infants isn’t treated, even mild cases can lead to severe physical and mental retardation.

germs from raw meat onto food that’s ready to eat. This is because raw or undercooked meat can contain germs that cause food poisoning, such as salmonella and E.coli. When you’re cooking any kind of meat on a barbecue, such as poultry (chicken or turkey), steak, burgers or sausages, make sure that the coals are glowing red with a powdery grey surface before you start cooking, as this means that they’re hot enough, and that frozen meat is properly thawed before you cook it. Turn the meat regularly and move it around the barbecue to cook it evenly. Remember that meat is safe to eat only when it’s piping hot in the centre, there is no pink meat visible, and any juices are clear.
Do I need to worry of skin cancer if I have naturally dark skin? Anyone can develop skin cancer, but people with naturally brown or black skin are less likely to get skin cancer because darker skin has more natural protection against UV rays. People who have fair skin that burns in strong sun, red or fair hair, a lot of moles or freckles, a personal or family history of skin cancer, or have been sunburned before, are at increased risk of developing skin cancer. Therefore, people with these characteristics should take extra care to protect their skin.
How do I find out if I have low testosterone? The only accurate way to detect this condition is to have your doctor measure the amount of testosterone in your blood. Because testosterone levels fluctuate throughout the day, several measurements will need to be taken to detect a deficiency. Doctors prefer, if possible, to test levels early in the morning since this is when testosterone levels are at their highest.
Is it safe to have an X-ray during pregnancy? It depends on the type of X-ray you need and exactly how much radiation you’re going to be exposed to. The higher the level of radiation, the greater the risk is to your baby. Most X-rays, including those of the arms, legs, head, teeth or chest, will not expose your baby to high enough levels of radiation to cause a problem and a leaded apron and collar can be worn to block any scattered radiation. The exception is abdominal X-rays, which expose your abdomen and your baby to radiation. Exposing an unborn baby to more than 10 rads is dangerous. But you needn’t worry; most X-rays are much weaker than this. It’s rare for any X-ray to be stronger than five rads.

Long Live Ladybird! By: Natascia Paolucci
W
hen you are five, you see the world with fresh new eyes. You are independent enough to make your own ideas and uncorrupted enough to voice them as you see fit. When you are a hundred… Well…you have been doing the same for 95 years! But how reach this honorable age, blessed with health and fitness? Ask the Tibetans. They have been practicing the secret to longevity for thousands of years. Yes, I said practicing because it involves exercising. It is based on a combination of five moves that must be repeated on daily basis to ensure proper blood, oxygen and energy flow thoughout your entire body. Let’s get at it… Move 1: Stand tall with arms stretched parallel to the floor, palm facing down (create a T shape with your body). Spin clockwise until you become slightly dizzy. Breathe deeply as you perform the exercise. You can spin from once to twenty one times, increasing the difficulty gradually. N.B.: make sure the environment is safe; stand away from furniture and other people. Move 2: Lie on your back, as flat as possible. Keep your arms along your side and your fingers close together. Slowly raise your head, tucking your chin to your chest. At the same time, lift both legs (straight) from the floor. You should try to bring them closer and closer to your head, without bending the knees (you become some sort of a soft V). Then, with complete control of yourself, lower your legs back to the floor (don’t drop them down). Allow your muscles to relax before repeating. N.B.: the breathing cycle is two folds; inhale as you rise and exhale as you descend.
60 |
| August 2012
Move 3: Knees on the floor but the body otherwise tall, place your hands behind your thighs. Tuck your chin in against your chest, inclining your head and neck forward. Inhale through the motion. Then, slowly bend your head backwards. Your spine should follow and be arched as well. You are exhaling now. Eventually, come back to the original posture and start over. N.B.: your toes are curled through the entire exercise. Move 4: Sitting down, legs straight in front of you, about twelve inches apart, keep your back straight, placing the palms on the floor alongside your buttocks. Then, tuck your chin to your chest (yes, again). Then, slowly, drop it backwards, as far as it will go, painlessly. The motion should make you want to arch your back. Do so, while your knees will bend. You are an inverted U, what your kids call a bridge. Every one of your muscles should be tense. Finally, with control, come back to the original posture, relaxing your muscles one by one. Rest. Start over. N.B.: inhale as you rise, hold as you tense, exhale as you go back. Move 5: Take the plank position on the floor, face down. Your hand palms will be against the floor and your toes will be flexed, for support. Then, bring your hands progressively to your feet, keeping your legs and arms straight at all times. You should be an inverted V. Then, move your hands away from your feet until they are perpendicular to the floor. At that point, your legs should be almost touching the floor and back arched. Now, bend the head backwards. You are sort of a comma (yes, the punctuation). N.B.: inhale as you move your hands closer and exhale as you move them further back. Easy, you say? Well, the more reason to stick to it for another century. And by then, Ladybird should be about 105 years old, blessed with health fitness. Happy birthday Ladybird!
Visa Financial Literacy Tips How To Avoid Turning Your Bundle Of Joy Into A Bundle Of Bills As many parents and expecting parents know, welcoming a baby into your home requires a lot of thought and preparation. There is so much to do, so much to buy and so much to prepare for, and of course most of this involves spending money. If you are smart with your money, expecting a baby doesn’t have to take a toll on your finances. It’s all about planning and keeping track of where you spend. So first things first; draw up what your income is, what the essentials are that you absolutely must have and work out how much you need to be budgeting for each month. Sites such as www.babycenter.com or Visa’s ‘Budgeting for Baby’ calculator provide an easy reference for musthave baby shopping. Don’t forget pregnancy costs too, some of these costs can’t be avoided. The key to spending within your means is to know what your expenses are and to spend less than you make. A simple way to start is by creating a realistic budget that you can stick to. Now you need to prioritize your outgoings, sorting out the ‘must haves’ from the ‘would likes’. Do you need the latest buggy or cot that all your friends have or is the cheaper alternative just as good? And be honest with yourself from the start or you’ll only get into difficulties later. If you need some guidance, there are plenty of resources online such as budgeting templates and calculators, you can take advantage of Visa’s online calculator which helps you think about the obvious and hidden costs that come with welcoming your new bundle of joy at www.mymoneyskills.me. A good way to spread the cost before your baby arrives is to purchase the essentials over several months. Shop around for the best deals, hit the sales at the stores and don’t be too proud to accept gifts from friends and family who want to contribute. To keep on top of everyday purchases, try using your debit card. It can make it easier to spend within your means since each time you spend, the money is drawn directly from your bank account. The transactions can also be tracked on your bank’s website or over the phone and your monthly account statement will provide full details of your purchases, including merchant name, location, date and amount. Keep track of your receipts over the month, check them against your bank statement and make sure they tally with your budget.

What are the best foods for healthy weight gain? Brazil Nuts, Peanuts, Avocados, Olive Oils and Fruit Juices
Fix with Food
Beat bloating! Boosting your water intake can work wonders. Water flushes waste out of your system and helps get things moving if you’re constipated, a frequent cause of bloating. Eat lots of fruits and veggies, because they’re about 80 to 90% water. Oranges and watermelon are two great options. Eat more fiber. Fiber prevents constipation by adding bulk, which helps everything move through the intestines more quickly. Cut back on gassy foods. Beans and cruciferous vegetables contain sugars that are difficult for some people to digest. Do dairy wisely. If dairy products give you gas, start with small servings and slowly up your intake over time, just as you would with other hard-to-digest foods. Don’t bite off more than you can chew. One big cause of bloating is swallowing too much air when you eat.

5Fit Figures Nutrition
Foods For BY:Noura Hassaballa
Are you spending hours at the gym trying to get rid of your belly fat and you still can see no results? Have you tried everything possible to reach your target weight and at one point, you just decided to give up because it’s not working for you? Well then perhaps it’s time for you to kick it up a notch and start thinking outside the box. Exercises alone will not do you any good if you are not changing your eating habits and watching what you eat. I’m sure you’ve heard of the five meals a day rule, but what are you getting in those five meals?
Eating five meals a day doesn’t mean that you have to take in 1000 calories in each one of them. When we say five meals we mean five small meals, so those 1000 calories can be divided up along your whole day, and that’s indeed hypothetically speaking if you are taking in 1000 calories, because everyone’s body is different. Your body may require more or less calories than someone else’s body. With that been said, let’s take a look at the five common foods that help reduce fat, specifically belly fat.
EGGS: Did you know that eating eggs for breakfast keeps you fuller for longer throughout the day, and can save you an extra 400 calories or more a day? A study was done by the Rochester Centre for Obesity in America with 30 overweight or obese women who ate either an egg-based breakfast (2 eggs) or a bagel-based breakfast, containing the same amount of calories and almost identical levels of protein. The group with the egg-based breakfast ate less over the next 36 hours, and consumed 417 calories less than the bagel-eating group. Not only that eggs can help you lose weight, but they are also loaded with nutrients. Eggs are packed with a variety of nutrients including protein, zinc, iron and vitamins A, D, E and B12, and contain around 85 calories each.
CINNAMON: Research from the U.S. Department of Agriculture found that a little cinnamon can help control post-meal insulin spikes, which make you feel hungry. Health bonus: One USDA study showed that just a quarter teaspoon of cinnamon a day lowered the blood sugar, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels in people with type 2 diabetes. Want more? When cinnamon is consumed, the body actually reacts chemically to digest the cinnamon. This reaction in reality speeds up the metabolism in order to offset the extra heat that is occurring as a result of the cinnamon. When the metabolism speeds up, you are burning more calories and you will lose weight a lot faster than having a much slower metabolism.

LEAN BEEF: It’s an excellent source of zinc, iron, and vitamin B12. It also contains leucine, a branched chain amino acid or BCAA that has been recently shown to exert fat burning and muscle sparing benefits during calorie restriction. The amino acid leucine, which is abundant in proteins like meat and fish as well as in dairy products, can help you pare down while maintaining calorie-burning muscle. That’s what it did for 24 overweight middle-aged women in a study at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Eating anywhere from 9 to 10 ounces of beef a day on a roughly 1,700-calorie diet helped the women lose more weight, more fat, and less muscle mass than a control group consuming the same number of calories, but less protein. The beef eaters had also more appetite satiety, and fewer hunger pangs. BEANS: Beans are not just high in protein and act as a meat substitute, but they also are a good source of fibers and other forms of complex carbohydrates. Beans are so nutritious that the latest dietary guide lines have been increased to triple the amount weekly. One cup of cooked beans (or two-thirds of a can) provides about 12 grams of fiber -- nearly half the recommended daily dose of 21 to 25 grams per day for adult women (30 to 38 grams for adult men). Meat, on the other hand, contains no fiber at all. Fibers fill you up promptly; they slow down gastric emptying so you won’t feel hungry as fast. Some studies showed that people who ate beans on weekly basis had slimmer waistline than people who didn’t. Beans also are high in antioxidants, a class of phytochemicals that incapacitate cell-damaging free radicals in the body. GRAPEFRUIT: Ever tried substituting a can of soda with grapefruit juice? In addition to saving your body from a sugar spike, you will also be getting appetite suppression effects along with shedding some extra kilos! For years we have heard of the grapefruit diet, and eating half a grapefruit each morning helps in weight loss processes. That’s actually true; there is a physiological link between grapefruit and insulin, as it relates to weight management. Researchers speculated that the chemical properties of grapefruit reduce insulin levels and encourage weight loss.

Eating & Exercising!
To Maximize 5Tips Your Workouts By: Sameh Mohsen
1. Eat a healthy breakfast If you exercise in the morning, get up early enough to eat breakfast, this means one to two hours before your workout. Most of the energy you get from dinner the previous night is used up by morning, and your blood sugar may be low. If you don’t eat, you may feel sluggish or lightheaded when you exercise. If you plan to exercise within an hour after breakfast, eat a lighter breakfast or drink something to raise your blood sugar, such as a sports drink. Emphasize carbohydrates for maximum energy. Good breakfast options include: Whole grain cereals or bread, low-fat milk, juice and bananas. If you’re not a fan of eating in the morning before you work out, try a sports drink or have a bigger bedtime snack the night before. Remember, if you normally have coffee in the mornings, a cup or two before your workout is probably OK. Just don’t try any foods or drinks for the first time before a workout, or you risk an upset stomach.
2. Size matters Be careful not to overdo it when it comes to how much you eat before exercise. Follow the general guidelines: • Large meals: Eat these at least three to four hours before exercising. • Small meals: Eat these two to three hours before exercising. • Small snacks: Eat these an hour before exercising. Eating too much before you exercise can leave you feeling sluggish, or worse, with a case of diarrhea or stomach cramps. Eating too little may not give you the energy to keep you feeling strong throughout your workout.
3. Drink up Don’t forget to drink fluids to help optimize your exercise and workouts. You need adequate fluids before, during and after exercise to help prevent dehydration. To stay well hydrated for exercise, the American College of Sports Medicine recommends that you: • Drink roughly 2 to 3 cups (0.5 to 0.7 liters) of water during the two to three hours before your workout. • Drink about 1/2 to 1 cup (0.12 to 0.23 liters) of water every 15 to 20 minutes during your workout. You may need more the larger your body is or the warmer the weather is. • Drink roughly 2 to 3 cups (0.5 to 0.7 liters) of water after your workout for every pound (0.5 kilogram) of weight you lose during the workout. Water is generally the best way to replace lost fluids. But if you’re exercising for more than 60 minutes, use a sports drink. Sports drinks can help maintain your body’s electrolyte balance and give you a bit more energy because they contain carbohydrates. 66 |

4. Snack well Most people can eat small snacks right before and during exercise. The key is how you feel. Do what works best for you. Snacks eaten soon before exercise probably won’t give you added energy, but they can help keep up your blood sugar and prevent distracting hunger pangs. Good snack options include: Energy bars or drinks, bananas or other fresh fruit, yogurt, fruit smoothies, whole grain bagel or crackers with peanut butter and granola bars. A healthy snack is especially important if you plan a workout several hours after a meal. Here are 5 tips for the perfect snack planning: 1) Base your meals on starchy foods: Starchy foods include potatoes, cereals, pasta, rice, and bread. Choose whole grain varieties when you can; they contain more fiber, and can make you feel full for longer. Starchy foods should make up around one third of the foods you eat. Most of us should eat more starchy foods, try to include at least one starchy food with each main meal.
2) Eat lots of fruit and veggies: It’s recommended that we eat at least five portions of different types of fruit and veggies a day. It’s easier than it sounds. A glass of 100% unsweetened fruit juice can count as one portion, and vegetables cooked into dishes also count. Why not chop a banana over your breakfast cereal, or swap your usual mid-morning snack for some dried fruit?
3) Cut down on saturated fat and sugar: We all need some fat in our diet. But it’s important to pay attention to the amount and type of fat we’re eating. There are two main types of fat: saturated and unsaturated. Too much saturated fat can increase the amount of cholesterol in the blood, which increases your risk of developing heart disease. Saturated fat is found in many foods, such as hard cheese, cakes, biscuits, sausages, cream, butter, lard and pies. Try to cut down, and choose foods that contain unsaturated rather than saturated fats, such as vegetable oils, oily fish and avocados. For a healthier choice, use just a small amount of vegetable oil or reduced fat spread instead of butter, lard or ghee. When you’re having meat, choose lean cuts and cut off any visible fat. Cut down on sugary fizzy drinks, alcoholic drinks, cakes, biscuits and pastries, which contain added sugars, this is the kind of sugar we should be cutting down on rather than sugars that are found naturally in foods such as fruit and milk. Food labels can help, use them to check how much sugar foods contain. More than 15g of sugar per 100g means that the food is high in sugar. 4) Eat more fish: Fish is a good source of protein and contains many vitamins and minerals. Aim for at least two portions a week, including at least one portion of oily fish. Oily fish is high in omega-3 fats, which may help to prevent heart disease. You can choose from fresh, frozen and canned; but remember that canned and smoked fish can be high in salt. Oily fish includes salmon, mackerel, trout, herring, fresh tuna, sardines and pilchards. Nonoily fish includes haddock, plaice, cod, tinned tuna, skate and hake. Anyone who regularly eats a lot of fish should try to choose as wide a variety as possible.
5) Eat less salt: Even if you don’t add salt to your food, you may still be eating too much. About three-quarters of the salt we eat is already in the food we buy, such as breakfast cereals, soups, breads and sauces. Eating too much salt can raise your blood pressure. People with high blood pressure are more likely to develop heart disease or have a stroke. Use food labels to help you cut down. More than 1.5g of salt per 100g means the food is high in salt. Adults and children over 11 should eat no more than 6g of salt a day. Younger children should have even less.
5. Eat after you exercise To help your muscles recover and to replace their glycogen stores, eat a meal that contains both protein and carbohydrates within two hours of your exercise session if possible. If you aren’t hungry after your workout, drink juice or a sports drink to provide replenishing carbohydrates. Good post-workout food choices include: Yogurt and fruit, Peanut butter or meat sandwich, String cheese and crackers, Nuts and dried fruit and a regular meal with meat, starch, and cooked vegetable or salad. Punishing your kids
Firm But Not Cruel!
C
hildren...a blessing? Maybe not all the time. We know how much you love your children and how you want them to be the best persons in the world. But in the process of trying to achieve that goal, you may face some challenges and real difficult times when you don’t know what the best way for disciplining your children is. And sometimes, while you’re trying to make your children better persons in the future, they end up having many problems due to wrong upbringing techniques you used with them while they were young.
What is Discipline? Discipline is the process of teaching your child what type of behavior is acceptable and what type is not acceptable. In other words, discipline teaches a child to follow rules. It may involve both punishment, such as a time out, and, more importantly, rewards. It sounds so straightforward, yet every parent becomes frustrated at one time or another with issues surrounding children and discipline.
Accept the Challenge of Establishing Discipline
Your responsibility as a parent is to help your child become self-reliant, respectful, and self-controlled. Schools can help but the primary responsibility for discipline rests with parents. How do you proceed with this challenge? Take a look at your current parenting style and how you use discipline. The American Mental Health Association describes three styles of parenting: • An authoritative parent has clear expectations and consequences and is affectionate toward his/her child. The authoritative parent allows for flexibility and collaborative problem solving with the child when dealing with behav5 Main Discipline Problems: ioral challenges. •A permissive parent shows lots of affection toward his/her child but provides little discipline. This is a less effective form of parenting.
Choosing Discipline Techniques The discipline techniques you choose may depend on the type of inappropriate behavior your child displays, your child’s age, your child’s temperament, and your parenting style. The following techniques are recommended by professionals to help you. Reward good behavior Acknowledging good behavior is the best way to encourage your child to continue it. In other words, “Catch him being good.” Compliment your child when he/she shows the behavior you’ve been seeking. Natural consequences Your child does something wrong, and you let the child experience the result of that behavior. There’s no need for you to lecture. For example, if a child deliberately breaks a toy, he/she no longer has that toy to play with. Natural consequences can work well when children don’t seem to hear your warnings about the potential outcome of their behavior. Be sure, however, that any consequence they might experience isn’t dangerous. Logical consequences This technique is similar to natural consequences but involves describing to your child what the consequences will be for unacceptable behavior. The consequence is directly linked to the behavior. For example, you tell your child that if he doesn’t pick up his toys,
then those toys will be removed for a week. Taking away privileges Sometimes there isn’t a logical or natural consequence for a bad behavior or you don’t have time to think it through. In this case, the consequence for unacceptable behavior may be taking away a privilege. For example, if a middle schooler doesn’t complete her homework on time, you may choose to take away television privileges for the evening. Time outs Time outs work if you know exactly what the child did wrong or if you need a break from the child’s behavior. Be sure you have a time out location established ahead of time. It should be a quiet, boring place; probably not the bedroom (where the child can play) or a dangerous place like a bathroom. Time outs often work best with younger kids for whom the separation from the parent is truly seen as a deprivation. Try not to give too many orders Describe what you want your child to do. Too many orders such as “Do this” and “Don’t do that,” may overwhelm your child, and being quick to criticize: “How could you?” and “Don’t be so stupid,” can be very hard to take for a child. Be realistic in your expectations of your child Don’t ask your child to do anything he/she cannot do. Make sure that what you are asking of your child is a behavior within his/her reach. If it’s not, your child will get frustrated and be less likely to listen to you in the future.>> August 2012 |

Tone down your language As a parent you should consider the language you use within the four walls of your home. Curb the yelling and the angry tone. For instance, imagine yourself at dinner, listen to yourself say, “Pass the bread.” Then ask yourself, “How am I saying it? Do I sound like a parent who cares? Or do I sound like a prison guard?” Your kids can tell the difference. Behave the way you want your children to behave Children learn discipline in ways that parents need to be aware of. For instance, children will learn right and wrong by watching what their parents do. If parents lie, the kids will. If parents use violence at home, the kids will use it in the streets, the same with alcohol, drug abuse and cigarettes. This stuff starts early. You parents who don’t want the kids to do these things, don’t do them yourselves. That’s the first step. If you have other bad habits, like being sloppy or late, don’t expect the kids to be neat or on time. Actions speak louder than words.
Is Spanking OK? NO. Physical punishment such as spanking isn’t recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics or mental health associations. Primarily because nonphysical discipline techniques work better with fewer negative consequences. According to the AAP, spanking may make children more aggressive, can become more violent and harm a child, and may cause children to think that it’s OK to physically hurt someone you love. Sherylin Thompson, a spokesperson for the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC), says, “Research has shown it’s not as effective as other measures long-term. Smacking may cause children to hit and bully other children because they imitate behavior.” In contrast, Dr Thomas Stuttaford who has written on child psychology believes smacking can help disciplining a child. He says, “Being a parent can be exhausting, and an occasional, spontaneous, light slap on the bottom is unlikely to be harmful, or interpreted as a sign of rejection or cruelty. However, smacking should never be done as the result of loss of temper or as ritualized punishment.”
5 Reasons Not to Hit Your Kids:
1) Hitting children teaches them to become hitters themselves. 2) In many cases of so-called “bad behavior,” the child is simply responding in the only way he can, giv76 |

en his age and experience, to neglect of basic needs. Among these needs are: proper sleep and nutrition, treatment of hidden allergy, fresh air, exercise, and sufficient freedom to explore the world around him. But his greatest need is for his parents’ undivided attention. 3) Anger and frustration which cannot be safely expressed by a child become stored inside; angry teenagers do not fall from the sky. Anger that has been accumulating for many years can come as a shock to parents whose child now feels strong enough to express this rage. Punishment may appear to produce “good behavior” in the early years, but always at a high price, paid by parents and by society as a whole as the child enters adolescence and early adulthood. 4) Physical punishment gives the dangerous and unfair message that “might makes right,” that it is permissible to hurt someone else, provided they are smaller and less powerful than you are. The child then concludes that it is permissible to mistreat younger or smaller children. When he becomes an adult, he can feel little compassion for those less fortunate than he is, and fears those who are more powerful. 5) Because children learn through parental modeling, physical punishment gives the message that hitting is an appropriate way to express feelings and to solve problems. If a child does not observe a parent solving problems in a creative and humane way, it can be difficult for him to learn to do this himself. For this reason, unskilled parenting often continues into the next generation.
Remember: Managing your kid’s behavior involves giving most attention to the good behavior you want to encourage, ignoring minor naughty behavior as much as possible, and only using punishment for really serious misbehavior.

5 Facts About 5! • Many things come in fives: the five senses, the five Chinese elements, five rings in the Olympic symbol, and five vowels in the English alphabet. • The number 5 is pronounced ‘ha’ in Thai so “555” is slang for “hahaha.” • Five was the lucky number for the superstitious French fashion designer Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel. In 1921 she chose the fifth day of the fifth month to introduce her new brand of perfume which she called Chanel No. 5. At that time its scent was unlike any other in a market dominated by floral perfumes. It was a huge success and today it is one of the most famous - and most expensive - perfumes available. • When you cut through an apple “the wrong way,” you get a fivepointed star. The wild rose has five petals. Apples and roses are part of a large family of plants called ROSACEAE which includes blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, pears, cherries, plums and peaches, all of which have five-petalled flowers. Although cultivated roses have many more petals, if you look beneath any rose, you will still find five sepals around the base of the flower. • A starfish has 5 legs and a star has 5 points.

I don’t care to see my designs on runways, streets are the only real runway as designs are made to be worn not watched. Fashion is meant to be wearable and not to only watch it on runways. Nada Akram
“It felt like a uniform to me, we don’t need to be in a wedding or a party to feel special and dress special and that is what I am trying to provide to my clients, to wear a piece that makes them feel special and unique. I provide couture concept in casual clothes and that is my target, my other target is to help all veiled girls modify any design to meet their need without being obliged to wear so many layers and cover-ups. I believe in simplicity with a mix of comfort and style. My experience in working as a stylist and a script writer gave me the inspiration to design according to personality. I never design a piece that I am not willing to wear, I wear everything I design, I am not with the ‘go with the flow’ concept of only designing what customers might buy. If I won’t wear it, I won’t do it,” says Nada Akram about her line.
Lately it feels like streets are huge ads for some stores as most girls are wearing the same piece with different colors and this is the reason I launched this fashion line as girls deserve to be unique in every way Nada Akram August 2012 |
