Pearls Being my favorite piece of accessories, I found that nothing suits a wedding issue better than pearls! Yes, pearls not diamonds. Diamonds are cold, made with no love, people fight over how big their stone should be, some weddings are called off because people find they can’t show off enough about their ring. Besides, after watching Blood Diamond movie, my emotions got distant from diamonds even more! I still can’t deny what Marlin Monroe said: “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend,” they still hold a certain beauty but I’d rather have pearls besides diamonds of course! I would rather pick a solitaire diamond or pearl than a bunch; reason for marriage is having “YOU” and only you always and forever… Pearls are emotional; they are the only gemstone made by living animals. They have feelings, can you even imagine that a pearl gets depressed when locked away in a dark box and changes it color! In marriage when you try to contain each other to the extent of locking on yourselves and lives, you end up a depressed couple… Marriage isn’t about control or dominance, but rather about sharing what’s outside your marriage and bringing it to your shared life together. Pearls are timeless; they never fade out of fashion and they never go out of style. The same applies to love and marriage, it’s never too late to find your second half. Pearls are original; there are fake versions and artificial ones, but the precious ones are the ones truly made through a long process to be called “a pearl.” What you see is the final step of a long route. The larger, the darker and the rounder the pearl, the more valuable and rare it is. Marriage is a journey, an ongoing process in which you grow together, learn and teach each other. Pick your second half and treat her/him as a precious, unique gift. Every pearl is unique. No two are alike, and all have some imperfections. That’s another fact about pearls and humans! No matter how the level of perfection you seek, there will always be pitfalls and imperfections. Accept each other as you are and love the defects to be able to enjoy the other positive traits…

1. How can I lighten dark armpits? Dark underarms are caused by thick shaved hair that shows under the skin, sweat that over time darkens skin, antiperspirants and deodorants or dead skin cells can build up causing dark underarms. To get rid of the underarm hair, stop shaving and wax instead. Wax removes hair from the root so if there is no more hair left under the skin, the armpits should look brighter. Try to switch brands because some ingredients in the antiperspirants can also cause dark armpits. Apply talcum powder under your armpit that will absorb sweat making it less probable to cause dark skin. It is also recommended that you gently exfoliate the underarm area. A simple home remedy is a sandalwood and rosewater paste. Simply mix a few teaspoons of sandalwood and two teaspoons of rosewater until you get a relatively thick paste and apply it, leave it for 15 to 20 minutes and then rinse it off with lukewarm water. Normal makeup removers aggravate sensitive skin because they dissolve makeup and dig out dirt, oil and microbes, for easy rinsing off. t’s officially wedding season, and we’re happily knee-deep in tulle, gazing longingly at the bridal collections. However, when thinking about the day itself, aren’t we totally nervous about what if! Beauty blunders are a major hassle, but on your wedding day they can lead to complete chaos! Not to worry! I have 8 common wedding day beauty emergencies and how to solve them. Their answers range from genius quick fixes (who knew safety pins were so handy?) to solutions a bit more complicated. Read on to find out more!
What do I do if I wake up with puffy eyes? The ‘frozen spoon’ trick is a godsend! Put two metal teaspoons in the freezer and let them hang out there for 15 to 20 minutes while you’re drinking a giant glass of detoxifying lemon water. Once the spoons are frosty, lay them on your eyelids face up, with the rounded part in full contact with your lid. Keep them in place for a few minutes. Don’t have teaspoons handy? Wrap ice cubes in a paper towel and apply to lids instead. 42 |

What to do if I wake up with dark circles? Lack of sleep is the main culprit here. You can avoid most of the beauty emergencies by not compromising on your sleep. However, if the problem is unavoidable, make sure that you apply a cooling pack for the eyes before you sleep the previous night. Wash off and apply moisturizer before sleeping. Use a good quality concealer to even the skin tone.
What do I do if my mascara runs? If your mascara is not water resistant, chances are it will run. If this happens, use a wet cotton swab to remove the mascara. Be prepared to touch up your under eye with concealer, foundation and setting powder as well. If water doesn’t do the trick, you can try something with a bit of grease. I like to use a small bit of Bioderma Sensibio and a cotton swab. It removes everything from runny mascara to stray eyeliner and it’s soothing and doesn’t irritate.
What do I do if I wake up with a huge zit? The best-possible scenariois to have your dermatologist on speed-dial; he or she can inject the pimple with cortisone and it will shrink immediately. If that isn’t an option, your main objective is to try to reduce the redness as much as possible and then conceal, conceal, conceal. For redness: If you have a few hours, dab on old-school white toothpaste, make sure it contains mint, and leave it on for as long as possible. Or use a gel or cream with Salicylic Acid like Dermalogica Overnight clearing gel. If you’re pressed for time, dab on Visine. To cover: Definitely use a concealer that doubles as an acne remedy and use a little powder from time to time to matte it down.
What do I do when I have smudged my eye makeup? Weddings make you emotional and you might find your eyes welling up. A few tears might run down your cheeks and along with them, your mascara and kohl. The only preventive measure for this problem is to use waterproof kohl, eyeliner and mascara. Do not compromise on this matter.
What do I do if I ruin my manicure? You smudged your polish before it had a chance to dry? Not a problem. Use a cotton swab or your finger to apply a small amount of nail polish remover to the damaged area. This will remove any polish globs and smooth away rough edges. Let the nail dry, and then apply clear nail polish to the area. It’s a good idea to have a small bottle of your nail polish color stored in a safe area the day of the wedding. Not your purse, per se, since a polish spill could result in a second beauty emergency. A broken nail is a bit more complicated, but curable nonetheless. Make sure your emergency kit (or your wedding planner’s) contains an emery board. In a major pinch, you can use a thick fabric (like denim, burlap, etc) to roughly ‘file’ the area down.

Play It Safe Every bride wants to look her best on her wedding day. These hair, body, and makeup tips will help you get a gorgeous glow. If you’re considering making a drastic change (i.e. lightening brows, changing hair color, doing an intense tan), think twice. Changing your look so significantly before such a big event can be a big mistake. Instead, aim to look like yourself, just enhanced.
Stop a Sweat Emergency If your deodorant is not cutting it, don’t panic. Since your sweat doesn’t actually smell until it comes in contact with bacteria on your skin, mop up any dampness with a paper towel and dab antibacterial hand gel under your arms to squash unpleasant odors.
Always eat breakfast Kick-start your body’s engine with a low fat, slow energy release, unrefined meal. Aim for a 300-350 calorie meal to fit in with the body’s natural metabolism which is primed in the morning and tails off during the day.
Hydrate Drink plenty of fluids (water, herbal teas and sugarfree cordial); aim for two liters spread throughout the whole day and you’ll feel more energized and alert. Plus, toxins will be flushed away and your complexion will definitely improve.
Don’t skip meals Running on empty is a bad choice as your blood sugar levels will dip causing headaches, fatigue and aggravation, which may even lead to a binge when you eat again. Your body needs a balanced intake of food to function properly, so starving yourself is not the answer.

Eat mindfully You can’t afford to ‘waste’ calories by eating mindlessly at the fridge, straight from the saucepan or while you’re on the go. Make sure that you sit down to savour all your meals and snacks.
Use a smaller plate Swap your normal plate for a slightly smaller one, making your meals seem larger and you’ll find your ‘full’ switch will flip a little faster.
Say no to processed food If it comes in a packet, leave it on the supermarket shelf. You’ll automatically eliminate food manufacturers’ high fat and high sugar products, not forgetting artificial ingredients. Natural and fresh is always best.
Move more Remember, as well as cutting calories you should burn them too – make sure you compliment the 10-point plan with physical activity. Try a brisk walk to work, an invigorating swim after dinner or join a class at your gym.
If you drink your maximum recommended units (21 per week for women) then you are taking in more than 1,000 extra calories. Strengthen that willpower and try to cut alcohol as much possible in the lead up to the big day.
Don’t skimp on protein Eat a portion of protein at lunchtime to help avoid an energy slump in the afternoon, which could have you heading for the vending machine. Try a chicken salad or prawn stir fry to keep you full into the afternoon.

Faces of Egypt time, everyone around me started encouraging me to do what I was good at, and since they knew my potential in the makeup field, they told me, “Why not give it a shot?” During that period, my friends and family were great support. And finally after six months of thinking, I followed their advice and I gave it a try. That was exactly a year ago. But actually I never thought that one day I’d be a makeup artist. Skincare and makeup were my hobby, but it was only for personal use. I always liked to pamper myself and since university, I’ve been always doing research and watching tutorials to learn more about skincare and makeup. However, as I said, I did all of that only to know how to take care of my skin and how to wear makeup correctly, with nothing in mind about it being my future career. After making the decision to start the kit, what was your next step? First, I did a facebook page without even having a portfolio or pictures. So I thought of letting the page be like a makeup blog and not only a PR or marketing tool. I started posting beauty tips, the page’s likes increased and

I graduated from the American University in Cairo in 2008 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication and minor in Business Administration. After I graduated I worked for two years in development projects funded by the EU and the Egyptian government for developing and renewing the Egyptian industry. I was excited at the beginning, I wanted to be part of more projects and I did well in my job, but after some time I didn’t feel it was the best thing for me and I realized that there was something missing and that it wasn’t what I really wanted to do. Then I worked for almost a year in an NGO called AWTAD for empowering Egyptian women. Still I had the feeling that I needed to do something else but I didn’t know what that was. I left my job and for six whole months I kept thinking and was trying to make a decision concerning my career. people began to interact and ask questions, and after two weeks, the first appointment was booked. I know that you didn’t take any makeup courses; don’t you think that depending only on talent is not professional enough? I believe that makeup is art and that art depends on talent. A makeup artist is like any other artist; if you have the talent and know the combination of colors, you can do it. If one day I decide to study makeup, it will be special effects and theatrical makeup. What do you like most about your work? I love photo shoots, they are the best part of my job even though they are very tiring and I can be working for twelve continuous hours. In photo shoots, I let my imagination take over and all my creative abilities appear. I also enjoy the “pro-u” courses I give to girls; they are one-to-one basic makeup courses where I teach girls basics like choosing the right foundation and concealer, applying kohl without smudging, face contouring, etc. I like to help girls feel and look better and share my knowledge with them. Who are your favorite makeup artists? Lisa Eldridge, Mario Dedivanovic and Michelle Phan. They always inspire me because they rely on subtle makeup and this type of makeup is my favorite.
Some people were born to be on desks and others were born with talents. Talented people were given a talent for a reason and they should use it to the best. I also learnt that if you love something so much, you’ll definitely succeed in it even after a long time. Can you give girls some quick beauty tips? Never sleep with makeup on, start using anti-wrinkle creams from the age of 25, eye cream is a must as the first signs of aging appear in the eyes and the neck. Don’t forget to take care of your neck; I consider it part of the face not the body, your neck will show your age, you can have a flawless face skin but very old neck. Put lip balm before you sleep to wake up with smooth lips. How should women choose the right makeup artist for them? They should first check the style of the makeup artist (bold, subtle, in-between), they should see his/her portfolio and they should decide on their budget. What are the latest makeup colors for SS 2013? Latest makeup colors are lavender, emerald green and extremely dark lipstick colors; burgundy lip color is so in.
What did you learn from the career changes you’ve gone through? I learnt that career shifts are not as scary as they seem.

’m your tough crowd, I’m gonna point out every little detail that went wrong, tell you exactly how unimpressed I am, then find you another job, but when I like something, I’m gonna share it with the whole entire world. I’ve talked about Yasmine designs before when she showed at CFF. It was almost like a raw talent that can only do better from here. And it did. With every piece from her new SS 13 collection, I can see the improvement, well thought out details, variety, and color. Although the zombie make-up have failed her a little, the styling wasn’t all that bad. Yasmine is giving you a whole new wardrobe. If you want to go for a dance you can put on her multicolor crepe dress and turn heads on the dance floor. If you want to go shopping you can put on one of her effortless loose chiffon shirts with a sexy detail on the sleeves, it can even take you to an interview in one of those beautifully tailored blazers. My favorite pieces are the striped shirt and skirt, and that sleeveless blazer, kind of asymmetric black and white vest, love! When did it all start? have you always known that you want to be a fashion designer? I started by applying to several art schools in Paris, London, Milan and New York. When I got my acceptances, I thought Paris would be the best option. I never thought I would be a fashion designer, I’ve always been more interested in becoming a painter. When I started my first year at ESMOD University, I simply found a passion in the work I was doing. How did Egypt influence you? or was Paris stronger? Paris was definitely a stronger influence. It’s the fashion capital of the world! Everything there inspires me; the architecture, street styles, art, history, trends! Everything is so artistic that it makes inspiration come naturally. who’s your favorite designer? Richardo Tisci for Givenchy. who’s the Yasmine girl? An independent, sophisticated, elegant, sexy woman who’s confident in herself and what she wears. What are your favorite and least favorite things about the fashion industry? My favorite thing would be the creativity and art that each designer brings each season! The least favorite thing would be the acceptance of the things you design in the community we live in.
Tell me more about your personal style. I wish I could be a lot more creative and design crazy pieces and find people wearing them. My style is more edgy, sophisticate and detailed. My inspiration always comes from architectural designs, therefore i always try to interpret the details of architectural buildings in my work. If you would do anything else in the world other than designinG, what would it be? I would become a painter. What’s the one item every girl should have? A pair of Alexander Mcqueen heels!

hen you meet him and talk with him for only five minutes, you quickly realize he’s an artist indeed. We visited “Mess designs,” a handmade crafts store that has been recently opened by Ayman Gamal El-Din, his two sisters Miral and Tally Gamal El-Din, and Omar Zain. We loved the place; it’s colorful, so cool, artistic and full of amazing handmade crafts. Tell us about yourself and what you do. My name is Ayman Gamal El-Din. I’m 31 years old. I’m a graphic designer, I draw, paint and sculpt. I design handmade crafts. I’m also into prop making and set designing for theatrical productions. And what’s your educational background? In fact I didn’t finish university. After I graduated from school, I joined the Faculty of Engineering where I spent four years after which I decided to quit because I felt I didn’t want to continue in that field and become an engineer. After that, I studied commerce so that I could have some free time to have some arts courses, start working and earning my living and be more independent. What was your parents’ reaction when you decided to leave university and dedicate all your time to art? At the beginning they didn’t approve what I did but after some time and after I started to be successful, they became convinced, they supported me and they even used to get me all the material I needed for my work as I was still a student and I couldn’t afford buying all what I needed. What made you think of opening a store for handmade crafts? I have my own art studio since 2002, and it was in that place that I started to make some handmade products like keychains, cards, gift boxes, stickers, and message sticks. Back then, my older sister Miral helped me a lot with distributing my designs and putting them for sale in gift shops. I also used to display my work in exhibitions. Then one day my sisters Miral and Tally saw that it was a good idea to open a store where I can sell my designs. I have to say that without them, I wouldn’t have thought about such thing. My wife Anke Koschinski, who is also an artist, is a great source of support and inspiration to me. So we opened the store about a month ago and I display my work in it, plus some more products that I started to make especially for the store such as sketch books, mugs, pin buttons and accessories. All those products can be customized according to people’s request. What does the name “Mess designs” mean? Mess is how my room looked like when I started working. I had to choose a name for the store and I couldn’t think of one except this. What do you think differentiates artists from ordinary people? True artists are simple people, they are spontaneous and sociable. They love people, helping them and expressing their feelings. They love life, nature and animals. They are curious, they like to explore everything around them and try new things.
What’s your favorite kind of art AND who are your favorite artists? I like Graffiti artists and their spontaneity, such as Jean-Michel Basquiat and Banksy. Which material do you prefer to work with? I like all materials especially charcoal, clay and wood, and in painting, acrylic is great; it can be used on paper, wood and canvas, it works with almost everything. What do you like to do besides artwork? I read a lot. I believe that reading is important for artists as it opens new dimensions in front of them and it gives them a great deal of information that is reflected in their work. Reading about religions in particular inspires my work. I also play the guitar and write poetry. One of the main things I like to do is to read the Quran and learn how to recite it properly. What do you dream of doing with your designs? I really wish if I didn’t have to sell my designs in return for money and I could just give it to people for free.

laborated with my second cousin and started our very own label “Double Nooun,” which is a contemporary lifestyle accessories brand, where we used locally resourced raw materials to create modern designs. Why did you choose design? After a trip to Milan, I got introduced to the world of fashion blogging. At that time, a lot of the great blogs like that of the Sartoralist, Carolines Mode, Tommy Ton and Garance Doré were flourishing and becoming more famous day after day. I was inspired by what I saw abroad. When I came back to Egypt, I decided to start a fashion blog talking about the fashion scene in Egypt and the Middle East. I always felt that the
fashion scene here in Egypt is neglected. Though we have a huge fashion crowd here and tremendous number of local fashion designers and fabulous talents, they are always underestimated by our community. So I decided to introduce and help that potential to emerge. Being a pharmacist and a product junkie I also love to test, try and review a lot of beauty products, and I love to help a lot of young girls and confused ladies decide which products to choose from. The blog’s name is simple, it defines what the blogs is about; Chanel stands for fashion, Cupcakes for pretty and creative cooking, Cameras for photography, and lastly Crayons is for art. Beside the blog, I collaborated with my second cousin Neama Hussein and we started Double Nooun, a lifestyle accessories brand. What’s unique about your work? What defines both my blog and brand is that it’s a pure reflection of modern Egyptian girls, the ones who love and religiously follow international fashion scene yet want to stay loyal to their Egyptian oriental roots. That’s the blog’s concept. As for “Double Nooun;” a lifestyle accessories brand, we wanted to have a brand for the sophisticated ladies who pay attention to every single detail of their outfit and even what’s inside their bag. We like to mix contemporary and trend designs with tradition and Egyptian heritage to make modern yet authentic solution for daily used garments.
What’s your greatest motivation? My greatest motivation is Egypt. Despite the sad current circumstances, I refuse to see anything bad in Egypt, I believe it’s one of the most beautiful places that God has created. There is something in Egypt’s air that makes her people creative. Egypt with all of her fast changing faces, the beautiful and the ugly, the cheerful and the sad, the city is always changing and inspiring me to discover more and more about it. I am the kind of girl who roams Cairo’s streets with a camera to get inspiration for my fashion blog and my niche brand. Tell us about some of the obstacles that you faced. A big obstacle that I faced when I started my blog was that a lot of people weren’t familiar with blogs, they didn’t know what a blog is. At the beginning, only the political blogs were popular. One time I got a weird message on the blog facebook page asking what I sell. But now after a year of continuous blogging, I can say that I have built a very big base of followers, thank God.

Kegham Karsian Owner of The Panini House By: Caroline Coussa give us a brief introduction about yourself. My name is Kegham Karsian, I’m Egyptian of Armenian origin, born in 1983 in Cairo, Egypt. After finishing school at Nubarian Armenian School, I joined the Faculty of Computer Science and graduated in 2006. After graduation, I helped my father with his jewelry business. I studied gemology and diamond grading, then my father passed away in 2009 and I took up his career until 2012 when I started to think of changing my career and introducing a different style of fast food in Cairo. Why did you choose fast food? The fast food field is a growing nonstop business especially in Egypt during the time of a recession, and I think many of us have noticed the number of coffee shops and restaurants that are opening and under construction all around the country. The Panini House is a totally new and different idea for serving high quality, healthy, tasty and crispy Panini pressed sandwiches. They only use panini bread with cold cuts but when it comes to grilled chicken or meat or steak sandwiches, they use ordinary Vienna bread. The Panini House is also one of the few places that helps you in making your own sandwich by choosing from the ingredients in front of you. We give you the complete experience of watching your food getting prepared in a totally clean kitchen plus customizing your own panini, starting from choosing your bread until eating and enjoying your own sandwich. Panini House, we believe that the customer is not the end user anymore, but is also the maker of what s/ he eats. What’s your greatest motivation? One of my greatest motivators is my wife. We got married one month before the opening of The Panini House. She loved the idea and encouraged me so much. She is also the designer of the logo and all my printings and banners. Also the unique idea of the panini pressed sandwiches that I already like with the melted cheese inside makes me love what I do. The great feedbacks from the customers motivate me and pushe me forward to do better.

And together we all started The Panini House with a team of 3 employees and me, then we became 5 then my brother also joined and we are growing bigger by time.
Of course, you faced various obstacles during opening The Panini House, tell us about them. It was never easy to open and manage The Panini House. It took me 8 months of planning and preparations before the opening. That was also the time before my wedding that was in April 2012, so I was preparing for the opening of The Panini House while my fiancĂŠe was preparing for our wedding ceremony. leepwalking -also known as somnambulism- usually involves getting up and walking around while asleep. Most common in children between the ages of 4 and 8, sleepwalking often is a random event that doesn’t signal any serious problems or require treatment. However, sleepwalking can occur at any age and may involve unusual, even dangerous behaviors, such as climbing out a window or urinating in closets or trashcans.
Someone who is sleepwalking may: • Sit up in bed and open his or her eyes • Have a glazed, glassy-eyed expression • Roam around the house, perhaps opening and closing doors or turning lights on and off • Do routine activities, such as getting dressed or making a snack, even driving a car • Speak or move in a clumsy manner • Scream, especially if also experiencing night terrors, another parasomnia in which you are likely to sit up, scream, talk, thrash and kick • Be difficult to wake up during an episode What causes a person to sleepwalk? Several different factors may be involved in the development of sleepwalking. These may include genetics (traits that run in families), environmental, and medical conditions. Genetics: Sleepwalking occurs more frequently in identical twins, and is 10 times more likely to occur if a first-degree relative has a history of sleepwalking. Therefore, it is thought the condition can be inherited. Environmental factors: Certain factors may cause a person to sleepwalk, such as sleep deprivation, chaotic sleep schedules, stress, alcohol intoxication, drugs such as sedative/hypnotics (drugs that promote relaxation or sleep), neuroleptics (drugs used to treat psychosis), stimulants (drugs that increase activity), and antihistamines (drugs used to treat symptoms of allergy).

Medical conditions: Medical conditions that have been linked to sleepwalking include arrhythmias (abnormal heart rhythms), fever, gastroesophageal reflux (food or liquid regurgitating from the stomach up into the food pipe), nighttime asthma, nighttime seizures (convulsions), obstructive sleep apnea (condition in which breathing stops temporarily while sleeping), or psychiatric disorders like posttraumatic stress disorder, panic attacks, or dissociative states, such as multiple personality disorder. When to seek medical care? For children and adults, sleepwalking is usually a sign of lack of sleep, intense emotional problems, stress, or fever. As these conditions resolve, sleepwalking incidences disappear. In most cases, no treatment is necessary because sleepwalking rarely indicates any serious underlying medical or psychiatric problem. In most children, sleepwalking disappears at puberty. However, it can occasionally persist into adulthood or may even begin in adulthood. Consult a sleep specialist if the person is having frequent episodes, injuring himself or herself, or showing violent behavior. Prevention: Say no to 3: stress, alcohol and sleep deprivation.

Lola Berry, a nutritionist and author of The 20/20 Diet (Pan Macmillan), says a simple spring detox can help you lose up to 5 kgm. “Throw out anything that comes from a packet, along with refined sugar and grain,” Berry says. “Increasing fiber is a great way to get healthy and more regular. Brussels sprouts, broccoli and kale are high in fiber and you should also eat fruit with the skin still on.” Berry suggests starting the day with half a fresh lemon squeezed into a glass of warm water. “It stimulates your liver and increases the stomach acids,” she says.
Get rid of old stale food in your kitchen and heavy winter calories by replacing them with fresh, whole foods. Spring is a bountiful time to explore a variety of color and flavor in your cooking. If you really want to know where it’s going, try tracking it for a week or more (just as you would track your spending so you can build a better budget.) Some activities like email, games and TV can take more time than we realize and offer little lasting return.

Of Team Spirit The era of the vulnerable (and let’s face it, useless) princess waiting in the tower is over and you should not wait for prince charming to do all of the work. In effect, modern marriages are more based on the principles of a partnership than before. In other words, you will be expected to help slay the dragon. Now, I don’t mean to be the pessimistic stepmother but, let me warn you: climbing the highest tower may not be the most difficult part of the fairytale. Indeed, taming the monster guarding the castle is a piece of cake compared to overcoming obstacles with prince charming. After all, teamwork and, most importantly, team spirit, are not innate and should be acquired with experience (and a great deal of patience). Now, the idea is not to have to learn it the hard way… And here are a couple of ideas to smooth the way to the happy ending.

1) Encouraging inclusion and cooperation. In most team sports and in everyday life, making your partner feel important is the key. Share your thoughts and ask for the other’s opinion, but most importantly, take it seriously into account. You may think you are right. You may actually be right. But you’ll have made your teammate feel useful and respected, and this goes a long way. After all, in sports and in life, it is not always necessary to be strong but to feel strong. 2) Don’t procrastinate. Disagreements are inevitable but conflicts are. As soon as something bothers you, you should point it out. However, be sure to do so in a constructive and positive way. As such, avoid talking out of anger, as you may say things you’ll regret, hurt your partner and lose credibility. Avoid also the accusing “you.” Try being pedagogical and explain your reasons. This being said, do not hesitate to be firm. Whether prince charming agrees to your points or not, he should refrain from doing it again if it bothers you. Now, for those who fear confrontation, remember that grudges can hurt a couple more than a fight.

Emphasize on all the qualities of your partner. Doing so will encourage you to notice all the efforts your teammate makes on a daily basis and which you tend to take for granted with habit. It also conditions your brain to think more positively and look for solutions instead of moaning on your fate and looking for pity. 4) Plan a monthly (or weekly, if you can) “team spirit” days. Namely, plan activities that the both of you can enjoy together. This could be visiting a place you have never seen before (and which would force you to help each other finding your way around), or playing a game of tennis against another couple (when you’ll have to communicate with your partner and cover for him or her when needed). Make an effort to find an activity in which you both feel comfortable (embarrassing situations would be counter-productive) and to vary (nothing kills enthusiasm quite like routine). 5) Be attentive and encouraging even outside the team event. 2 lobster tails 6 scampi 6 prawns 6 shrimp 8 crab legs 8 oysters, shelled 8 scallops, shelled breadcrumbs 2 teaspoons finely chopped garlic 1 cup dry white wine 85 grams butter 3 teaspoons lemon juice 1 pint vegetable oil 6 green asparagus spears 1 whole lemon 1 whole fresh tomato seafood cocktail sauce (optional) tartar sauce, if you wish (optional)

To prepare: cut the lobster tails and bend back in butterfly style. Shell and devein the scampi, prawn and shrimps. Extract the meat from the crab claws. If not already done, remove the oysters and scallops from the shell and coat with breadcrumbs. Finally, wash the lobster, scampi, prawns and shrimps under cold running water and dry thoroughly. Proceed with the following cooking methods, simultaneously: crabmeat: Place the crabmeat in a small ovenproof dish, add 1/3 tsp garlic, 1 tsp lemon juice and half the white wine and bake in a moderate oven for 10-15 minutes. Lobster tails: Place in an oven pan; add 25 g butter and 1 tsp lemon juice and bake in moderate oven 8- 10 minutes. Melt 25 g butter in a frying pan; add 1/3 tsp garlic and the remaining wine. Sauté scampi, prawns, and shrimp for 2 minutes, stirring continuously. Heat the oil and deep fry the scallops until golden; transfer to a small ovenproof dish; add the remaining butter, garlic and lemon juice and place in a broiler for 5 minutes. Reheat the oil and deep-fry the oysters until golden. Cut the whole lemon in half and remove the seeds. Cut the tomato into wedges. Steam asparagus spears for 5 minutes and plunge immediately into ice water. To serve: Arrange attractively on a bed of lettuce on a silver platter. Garnish with lemon halves and tomato wedges. Drape asparagus spears across the top of the tray.
Tips:
• Serve your seafood over ice with salt added to slow down the rate of melting. • Put both lemon and lime wedges on your platter, cut as cheeks to avoid the pips. • Never leave seafood or other perishable food out of the refrigerator for more than 2 hours or for more than 1 hour when temperatures are above 90ºF. Bacteria that can cause illness grow quickly at warm temperatures (between 40ºF and 140ºF). • When it’s party time, keep hot seafood hot and cold seafood cold: Divide hot party dishes containing seafood into smaller serving platters. Keep platters refrigerated until time to reheat them for serving. Keep cold seafood on ice or serve it throughout the gathering from platters kept in the refrigerator. • Don’t forget to put napkins on the table and an empty bowl for discarded shells.

t’s no wonder that studies show that 60% of couples in failed marriages experienced marital doubts and dissatisfaction within the first year of their marriage, in 2/3 of these cases, these thoughts and feelings arise within the first six months. Marriage researchers have long identified the post-honeymoon phase – first two years of marriage – as one of the key benchmarks in which divorce is most likely to occur! Yes, the first years as much as they sound romantic including the honeymoon and the intimate moments, are by far the base of all what’s coming next.
Why are new marriages so vulnerable to the disillusionment and discouragement that can jeopardize a happy and lasting union? Many marriage experts believe that most new couples become ambushed by what is called illusionary intimacy. During their courtship, they experience a strong sense of closeness without realizing that their feelings are being influenced by romanticism and infatuation. Couples unconsciously form idealistic perceptions of what their partners are like based upon their expectations of what they would like them to be. What actually changes is not one’s partner, but one’s perceptions of her/his partner. Not long into the marriage, couples experience the disillusionment of their partner not living up to the unrealistic and unachievable standards

that have come to be expected. Their idealistic views are challenged by the reality of normal life. Another reason for this disillusionment in new marriages is that when newlyweds begin to live together they often put less and less emphasis on hiding their negative characteristics. During courtship, great care is given to be on one’s best behavior. But, often people feel they have the right to relax their self-presentation and be more comfortable in the relationship once the marriage vows are exchanged. This results in the less desirable attributes being revealed. Some refer to this phenomenon as “seeing behind the curtain.” Related to these concepts is the notion that individuals naturally create needs-related cognitive distortions of their future partners in the initiation phase of the relationship. In other words, the desire or need to have a relationship is so powerful that it causes one to fashion a distorted view of her/his potential mate. This view fabricates or overemphasizes positive attributes while overlooking or minimizing negative ones. However, once a commitment is made to the institution of marriage, partners leave the initiation phase and enter the maintenance phase. At this point, they no longer need to work to attain one another’s love and acceptance as this objective has already been achieved. The needs-based distortions are no longer necessary and disintegrate when subjected to the reality constraints of an ongoing relationship. Therefore, the disillusionment and disappointment that are experienced in the early months or years of marriage stem from two related factors. The first is the actual change in behavior as partners no longer see the need to put their best foot forward. The second
is the disappearance of the needs-related distortions which cause us to view our partners through rosetinted glasses. The important take-away of this discussion is that these are completely natural and common occurrences. It would be a grave mistake to think that one’s new marriage is in dire straits merely because one’s partner is not the perfect individual that was previously and naively perceived. There is still great hope for the future and many reasons to remain committed to the relationship. Don’t accept disillusionment and disappointment at face value. Rather, accept the challenge to continue to progress through this normal, although important, stage of marriage.
To turn this “honeymoon’s over” period into a growth experience requires work. Here are a few important points: 1. Look at this period as a transition all couples go through, not as a sign of a bad marriage. 2. Concentrate on adapting yourself rather than trying to change the other person. In doing so, you’ll find attitude may be responsible for a good share of the problem and the best way to change someone else’s behavior is to change your own. People are more likely to change when they feel accepted. 3. Share your feelings about the adjustment with your spouse. This can, of course, be destructive if it is not done with consideration. Don’t attack, accuse, or name call. “You lied to me about yourself,” will not be very helpful. “I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling like things are different from what I expected” can open the door to discussion. It will probably be reassuring to both to realize that the spouse has also had feelings of disappointment and the need for adjustment. 4. Strengthen the marital commitment. invest effort in being a good partner and doing all you can to be considerate of your partner.

The flavours and ingredients needed further investigation, so my partner trotted off with pen and paper for a chat with Amira. “Oyster sauce, soya, garlic, fresh and powdered ginger and ground cashews,” came back the report. Want “sun kissed skin” all year long? Here are the facts about tanning and sun beds: Sun tanning or simply tanning is the process whereby skin color is darkened. The process is most often a result of exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or from artificial sources, such as a tanning bed. Sunlight has a positive influence on our mood, gives us a boost of energy and a healthy appearance. It’s an important factor that influences our happiness and self-confidence. Moreover, the sun generates vitamin D, which protects us against bone and muscle problems. Scientists dismissed the myth that solariums/tanning beds are bad for your skin.To tan in a sun bed is the same as tanning in the natural sun. However, you should remember to always tan according to your individual skin type and at all times look out for the warning signals (allergic reactions or burns).
