Welcome to your Lakes Region wedding
Your wedding day...romantic, festive and fun. Enjoy a lakeside, tented, indoor or backyard celebration. Whatever your location or the season, welcome to your Lakes Region wedding.
Your wedding...your way...
If you are planning a wedding in 2025 or beyond, we have good news for you. The Lakes Region is a wonderful place to exchange your vows, share a meal with family and friends and of course, dance and socialize into the evening.
Whether you love hiking to a mountaintop for your ceremony, being out on one of the lakes, having your wedding under a tent, in a garden or indoors, you have come to the right place.
Barn weddings remain popular, but gone are the days of extreme rusticity with rough burlap table runners and uncomfortable hay bales for guest seating. These days, things are more upscale, mixing the country aspects of a barn gathering with elegance. The results are surprising: a beautiful, elegant country wedding with perhaps a sparkling chandelier and wooden farm tables.
Those who opt for a different venue can choose a tented location, a place with lake views, or an indoor setting.
Arrive by limo, antique car, trolley, a vintage boat or other transportation; the choices are endless. Gowns come in all styles, and florals can be lush or simple. Cakes are a delight, whether modest in size, surrounded by cupcakes or large and ornate.
The fact is, anything goes for a 2025 Lakes Region wedding. We show that flexibility in this issue, with some styled photo shoots focusing on an elegant location at the Manor/Van Horn estate in Holderness and at sophisticated Church Landing/Mill

A Heartfelt Gown
In a special tribute to the women in her life, bride-to-be Shannon, went to Brenda MacKay, owner of My Little Sewing Room in Alton, NH looking for help and suggestions.
Brenda says Shannon wanted to honor her mother and grandmother in her gown, while keeping her own modern, beautiful gown intact. Looking at the material Shannon brought in from the gowns, Brenda was able to make three hearts (bottom left photo) with a small bit of material from the grandmother’s 1952 gown (gown in front top left photo), the mother’s 1989 gown (gown in back, top left photo) and the gown of the bride-to-be. But where to sew the hearts on Shannon’s modern gown so they were a tribute but would not overpower the gown?
Brenda and the bride-to-be decided on sewing the three hearts into the underslip of the gown, (top right photo), honoring all three generations of brides in the family. “It was a surprise for the mother of the bride,” recalls Brenda. The result is pictured above in the top right photo. In the bottom right photo the bridesmaids get a peek at the heartfelt gown.

Stately Wedding Style
Photos by Maxine Cadman Photography
There is nothing quite so elegant and stylish as the early 1900s when the wealthy built summer homes and estates in the Lakes Region of NH. From a castle on a mountaintop to elegant homes that hugged the shores of any one of the area’s lakes, the time period exuded style.
The word “style” epitomizes a hilltop estate in Holderness, with views of Squam Lake below. The home’s history dates back to the turn of the 20th century when wealthy Englishman Isaac Van Horn and his wife visited the Squam Lakes area in 1904 and became enchanted with the beauty of the region. He purchased land where the Manor now stands and began construction in short order. It was completed in 1907.
The Manor / Van Horn Estate exudes old-world style and is just right for an upscale wedding in The Mirador, a newly completed venue on the property. The tables were decorated by the staff of the estate, with florals created by Lakes Region Floral Studio and gowns from A Day to Remember Bridal Boutique. continued on page 30

Wolfsburg Wedding

Hannah and Matt planned their wedding with the idea in mind of a relaxing outdoor weekend in a unique and beautiful setting. Says Hannah, “The vision of our wedding was for it to feel like a big family camping trip with a twist of dark and dreamy vibes. It was a weekend-long event with tents and campervans full of friends and family.”
The wedding was held at Wolfsburg Farm in Holderness and chosen by the couple because, says Hannah, “We loved that this was a large piece of property with an amazing view of the mountains and very private. It was easy to pick this venue once we met property manager Ashleigh and her husband and kids the day we viewed the property. It felt as though they would become friends of ours afterwards.” (Ashleigh’s father, Randy Currier, owns the farm and together Ashleigh and her husband, Andrew, own Free Spirits Event and work with Randy to manage all events on the property, where they do everything except catering.)
Hannah continues, “The Friday before the wedding was beautiful weather for our rehearsal and gave us a beautiful sunset in the afternoon. On the wedding day (Saturday), there was fog coverage and clouds which made for a very moody surrounding, which continued on page 44
we could not have asked for better weather so that our guests were not completely exposed to the sun.”
Hannah recalls, “We woke up and had breakfast all together and my Dad manned about four French press coffee makers, since that is my husband’s and my favorite way to have coffee. Our guests arrived in all black. We had a fire at night with s’mores; it was very laid-back and relaxing.” With a guest list of 55 people, everyone attended the ceremony and then partook of a meal by Lexie’s Food Truck. Looking back on the perfect wedding weekend, Hannah says, “It was not challenging to get ready in a tent. In fact, it was very easy since we did hair and makeup in the emperor tent and then I had my dress in the small room inside the barn.”

Simplicity, Family and Love
Images by Timeless Touches Photography
Getting married in a beloved location holds meaning for many people. Karen, the bride, recalls just such a place and luckily it was unique and welcoming. She says, about her October 5, 2024 wedding, “I chose the Covered Bridge Farm Table in Campton because I lived next to it my entire life. It was a big gathering spot for parties in my younger years. I also grew up swimming under the ‘Blair Bridge’. It inspired me to name my late daughter ‘Blair’ so it was sentimental in that aspect as well.”
Karen and her (now) husband, Matthew, met through friends 12 years ago. “We got engaged on April 1, 2022. Matthew was throwing me a surprise 30th birthday party and he knows how I love April Fool’s Day tricks!”
All joking aside, the couple took a year and a half to plan the wedding and knew they wanted to put their special touches on the wedding day.
At the very special location of the Covered Bridge Farm Table, the couple planned a vegan wedding menu.
“My husband has been vegan for 10 years. I have been vegan for five years, and our children have been their whole lives. We chose to do vegan for our wedding day so that our kids could eat whatever they liked and not have to ask if it had animal products in it. We also did not want to invest our money into something we strongly disagree with for the sake of our wedding. Our menu was a pasta bar with salad and garlic knots. There was a plain marinara sauce, an impossible meat sauce, and a pesto option. For appetizers we had crackers and fruit.”
The vegan meal for 75 guests was prepared by The Covered Bridge Farm Table staff and the setting had a fall theme. Remembers Karen, “The leaves were at peak and it was a perfect fall day. In our planning, we tried to be very minimalistic. The flower arrangements and centerpieces were made by me and my friend Kali. My wedding flowers were Sola Wood flowers put together by me and my sisters-in-law. The day was full of simplicity, family, and love.”
Before the reception and meal, the ceremony took place by the Blair River with a view of the bridge and water. Dressed in colors of cinnamon, sage and burgundy, the wedding party colors echoed the autumn weather.
Says Karen, “With groomsmen (our two oldest boys, my step-sons, and my brother) and bridesmaids (my three sisters-in-law), also in the wedding party was the flower girl (my niece) and the ring bearer was our three-year-old son.”
The beautiful wedding cake was vegan and made by Pauly Burke, a family friend. “He has a passion for baking and frequently bakes vegan cakes for his family so we knew he would make a delicious cake. We had apple cider, vanilla, and red velvet cake/cupcakes. The main cake was apple cider,” recalls Karen.

“We were fortunate to have a home wedding on Lake Winnipesaukee... the beautiful property in Weirs Beach allowed us plenty of space to have our ceremony on the beach, followed by our reception in the garden.”
—the Bride
Kayleigh & Tanner
Kayleigh and Tanner met after seeing each other out a few times with mutual friends. Says Kayleigh, “We exchanged phone numbers online and planned to grab drinks one-on-one. Our first date was on August 17, 2018, and we haven’t stopped dating since!”
It took the couple two years to plan their wedding. Kayleigh adds, “After getting engaged, we looked ahead and saw that August 17 would fall on a Saturday in 2024. It’s a special date for us, and it meant everything to share the joy of our marriage and celebrate our anniversary with our families and friends. We were fortunate to have a home wedding on Lake Winnipesaukee hosted by Donald Gagnon and Sandra Quinney (mother of the groom). Their beautiful property in Weirs Beach allowed us plenty of space to have our ceremony on the beach, followed by our reception in the garden.
“Although navy blue was our primary color, we wanted to highlight the vibrant colors of the garden and included lots of homegrown and locally-sourced florals. We loved how colorful and bright our wedding felt!”
“Most of the planning we did ourselves with the support of family and friends. Sandy Quinney helped us find our day-of wedding coordinators, Christa McLean Events, which included a co-coordinator, Candace Dewey. They both ensured our wedding day ran perfectly!”
In keeping with the summer season, the wedding menu/meal echoed the casual lakefront vibe. Kayleigh says, “We had a plated style dinner that included a seasonal summer salad, choice of entrée (herb roasted chicken, honey garlic glazed steak tips, or butternut squash ravioli) along with sauteed string beans and shallots and roasted fingerling potatoes.”
continued from page 56
When asked what made the wedding personalized and special, Kayleigh explains, “Getting married at a home where we have shared so many special moments and memories made our wedding feel much more intimate. During our ceremony, we had our officiant share the legend of how Lake Winnipesaukee got its name, which is a bit of a love story! It gave our wedding a unique sense of place and meaning, and our guests also loved the special firework show provided by Donald Gagnon.” continued on page 58

Austin and Danielle were married on October 5, 2024. They began the wedding planning process in late fall of 2022. Says Danielle, “A few of our close family members had recently got married and recommended we start the process early as things can book far in advance.”
They knew that wedding finances and budgeting are important. The bride says, “Our longer engagement helped us save up more money. We also wanted to make sure we could support local family businesses and/or nonprofit vendors wherever possible. We live in southern New Hampshire, but have always loved traveling north in our home state.” (The ceremony and reception were held at Cold Spring Farm in Alton, New Hampshire.)
The feel for the wedding was rustic, laid back, warm, and bohemian. Says Danielle, “We do not like being the center of attention but really wanted to celebrate our new chapter together with our closest family and friends by our side, including our two dogs/boys, Harvey and Oliver.
“We visited Cold Spring Farm (CSF) on December 29, 2022. We fell in love with the beautiful venue and the family that created it. It was not too far away from home and we wanted to make sure our loved ones didn’t have to commute too far. We loved how set back/ private the property was and that we had mountains, vast fields, rustic charm, farm animals and more all in one. We also loved the rustic wooden tables on site and the beautiful outside ceremony space. The CSF team was ready to support us while leading up to our day during our wedding weekend. CSF owner, Diane, was genuinely warm and kind. We appreciated how much flexibility we had when creating our wedding weekend; we had total freedom with external vendors that we chose for catering, bartending, entertainment and more. We did a lot of homework to compare pricing and packages with many vendors. It was honestly a lot of work but it helped so we could choose what best fit our needs within our budget. We loved having the ceremony and reception in one spot; less driving for everyone. We also had access to a surplus of wedding decor for our wedding weekend that we really appreciated not having to purchase all items ourselves, storing and lugging up to Alton.
Danielle continues, “Austin and I love being outside in nature/tending to plants and chose to include a symbolic tree planting ceremony. We chose a North Winds Maple tree and included soil from both our current home and the farm (where we met) to represent our roots and water from Lake Winnipesaukee (collected that weekend) for our new beginnings and nourishment.
“We invited just over 100 guests, and 97 people (including myself and my husband) attended. Despite our end number, it did still feel very intimate and special. We are so so grateful to have shared that day with everyone.”
There were 2 maids of honor, 5 bridesmaids, 2 best men and 3 groomsmen. Additional people that were in the wedding party processional included a nephew, parents, godparents, grandparents and a few additional family members. “We also had one of my sister’s partners play acoustic guitar for our processional music,” Danielle adds.
Danielle continues, “Austin and I love being outside in nature/tending to plants and chose to include a symbolic tree planting ceremony. We
chose a North Winds Maple tree and included soil from our current home and Springlook Farm (where we met) to represent our roots and water from Lake Winnipesaukee (collected that weekend) for our new beginnings and nourishment. We later officially planted our tree on family property at the end of October). My godmother performed our wedding ceremony; she has been a justice of the peace for a few family members. Our two dogs were also in our wedding and they did such a good job! We love them so much!”

Mountaintop Wedding Charm continued from page 64
The season set the tone for the wedding style. Says Danielle, “I really wanted to play off the natural colors of autumn. I used various leaf foliage photos for inspiration. We loved the idea of having fall jewel tones and to make sure the bridesmaids had individual gown colors. We chose a lighter brown suit for our groomsmen as a warm fall neutral to match well with everyone. Austin’s suit was a nice deep blue, which is his favorite color and to tie in the jewel tone idea. Accent colors for tablescape and unique ribbon for my two maids of honor and my bouquet included golden yellow and deep rust orange, which are classic autumn colors.” I wanted to give my wedding party flexibility with the price range and to feel beautiful/comfortable in the dress/outfit style they chose. I shared the color palette with everyone and let my maids of honor choose their preferred colors first. After that, remaining bridesmaids all could choose and everyone wanted their own unique color. The only requirement for outfits was to be floor length and not fully lace. I was also okay with anyone who wanted to wear a pantsuit or suit in place of dress as long as they felt comfortable. I loved the mix match style for color, clothing texture and shoes. I did gift everyone the same earrings and light tan shawl as a way to tie everything together.”
For the dinner menu, she says, “We wanted to make sure everyone had different food options and if anyone was still hungry, they could get seconds! We chose to have an extensive buffet.”
Wedding Hint: “We chose to do first looks and private intimate vows prior to our ceremony. This really helped to calm our nerves and to have one-on-one time together to share our personal vows without so much pressure. After our private first look, we both felt so excited and ready for the rest of our day,” Danielle shares.

Having the couple’s beloved dog on-site during the wedding was a bit of a challenge and meant planning ahead. Kayleigh laughs as she recalls, “We had to be extra strategic on how we would include Gilligan, our three-year-old Golden Retriever, at our wedding since he is familiar with the house and loves to swim in the lake. Thankfully, we had the help of a trusted friend, Zea McGarr, who served as our dog-wrangler the day of our wedding and brought him down on a leash to take photos after the ceremony. Afterwards, she brought him back home and dog-sat for him during the reception. It worked out great!”
